[Q] Rooted but cannot install busybox - HTC Desire X

i seem to be rooted but i cant install busybox!

Same problem. Current root not worked at full

If you install busybox through an installable zip via CWM it should survive a reboot. This seems to have worked for me, modifying the root fs from android seems to revert back every reboot.
fwiw, i used the zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903752

Can anyone confirm that this zip-file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903752
really work on a Desire X device on Stock Rom? I need really BusyBox, but I dont find a way to install it. Always error, if I use the App to install.

Yeah it works, already have it on my DX since it's out.

Works!
Works perfect!
Just flashed zip in CWM - reboot - voila: everthing runs as expected!
Thanks for your good work @ all devs at xda!

Had some time during the breakfast...
Here you guys have a SuperSU CWM flashable package that works on the CWM recoveries of the X8 - and will replace the default Superuser by ChainsDD
"su" goes into /system/xbin and "Superuser.apk" goes into /system/app
There's also an undo CWM ZIP attached that will restore ChainsDD's Superuser.apk and su binary in case Chainfire's SuperSU doesn't work for you.
Tested to work on GingerDX v022 and v025 - try on other ROMs at your own risk.
EDIT:

It's a "better than Superuser" solution. I added the links to the article on XDA's portal as well as to Chainfire's SuperSU thread ... just have a look.

Go into Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications and try clearing the data cache of SuperSU.
I tried SuperSU on the cellphone of my step-daughter (GingerDX v022 on Alfs) and the only problem I have is that Titanium Backup gets stuck after obtaining super user privileges (already Allowed and Remembered).
All the other apps (Root Browser, "su" in the Terminal, ClockSync) work fine; no problems with Force Closes.
Root Explorer broken by this app on a Rezound running ICS. Uninstalling SuperSU breaks root (you might want to put a warning in it somewhere). And even after flashing your fix, and using Amon Ra to re-root (there is no CWM for Rezound), Superuser can't update its binary.
Got a fix? (Other than to reinstall before you do fix it?)
Thanks in advance. Might just have to restore last Nandroid.

The UNDO CWM ZIP actually spills back ChainDD's Superuser ...
EDIT: And with a Rezound you seem to be in the entirely wrong forum section.

This appears to be only thread for app on xda; and the app was touted on Lifehacker today (and the Market, uh, er, Play doesn't say it doesn't run on the Rezound).
My problem is that I can't update the binary since uninstalling SuperSU. How can that be? I get an error "Failed to download manifest. Check internet connection." (Regardless of whether on LTE or wifi).
Interested in your suggestions.

Well, if you can tell me into which directory the "su" binary is supposed to go I can create you a customized "undo" CWM ZIP.
The one attached above to the OP post copies "Superuser.apk" into /system/app (that much is the same on all Droids) and "su" into /system/xbin
If that matches with how it should be on the Rezound then simply flash the file - if "su" needs to be in /system/bin instead (or some other totally mind boggling location) tell me and I repack it for you.
On that note: There is a thread of Chainfire for SuperSU - this is just a repack of his CWM ZIP as it doesn't work on the X8
Chatted with my ROM developer who said "leave su & binary alone," so Nandroided back to pre-SuperSU and we seem to be okay.
I like the concept, just can't run (yet). Thanks anyway.

Installing some old apps on a different rom

Hey guys.I'm running cyanogen mod 9 on my samsung galaxy s plus and I don't really like some stuff like the file manager.I have downloaded a gb backup of samsung's stock file manager but whenever I try to install it I get the error"app not installed".I have tried to put it ino system/app and reboot my phone. It is there but still I can't install or use it.Any idea how to fix this?I don't really want to reflash the gapps..Thanks.
are you serious..nobody?
Gapps has no file manager.
After copying the apk to /system/app, reboot into recovery, wipe cache/dalvik and reboot.
However this may not work if the app need some other files or is not compatible with you current ROM.
Better still, download a file manager from Play store.

[Q] /system 1k free problem

I restored my Atrix stock backup, system version 4.5.141.MB860.ATT.en.US, Android 2.3.6. When I tried to update Superuser binary it would always fail on the last step writing su file to system. I checked with root explorer 0 k free. I deleted the su file 1k and now have 1k free. Superuser still works but the binary needs to be updated. Any one have this problem? Is there a fix?
Did you try superuser update fixer?
I find my system partition always low on space. I usually go through /system/apps and sort by size and decide which to move to /data/apps.

I tried superuser update fix. It identified superuser apk as ok. when I select the fix option it hangs or I get a force close. I also tried to update busybox, that didn't work either. I think the problem is the preinstall.img I flased when I rooted the phone. There is no free space on the system partition. The directory structure doesn't look right to me. All of the functions of the original rom work accept flash player and the firefox browser. In lapdock I tried to install plugins and lost root, so I reflased the backup to restore root.
I just downloaded CSROM turbo yesterday I thought I would give it a try. I have tried CM7, No 1080p mirroring, Flash player not working 100% of the time, no lapdock support. Didn't like MIUI US. Loved the Performance of Jockersax CM10 with crome browser, but without hardware acceleration and no lapdock support. I have nandroids of all. I got a lapdock at Radioshack for $19.97 I like webtop but would really like Ubuntu for Android.
I am going to do some maintenence on the SD card and flash CSROM turbo now.

CM File Manager - Root Mode Not Working

Hello,
I extracted the CM File manager apk from a previous Titanium backup of mine, with the intent of installing it on my stock rooted Nexus 10. Almost everything is working fine, except for root. The option to change the access mode is grayed out. I AM rooted, I have tried with and without busybox, I've made it a system app to no avail. I really like this file manager, and really would like it to work in rooted mode. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

I had such error on my SGY. I updated su binary, then I installed busybox 1.21.1 from Stericson's busybox installer (get it on Play Store).
Then problem was solved.
I'm trying to install the Framework, when I go into the app and then press install/update, I get a window that says:
Copying Xposed-Disabler-Recovery.zip...
Could not extract Xposed-Disabler-Recovery.zip
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, restarted the phone and still getting the same issue. never had this problem before, can anyone help?

If you are trying to install Xposed on a newer Samsung device, Knox and SELInux will fight you. I'm guessing you are running what is in your in your sig, so probably not Knox. Install this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrbimc.selinux Grant SU, change to Permissive, reboot (may not be necessary, but doesn't hurt), and try again.

What version of Xposed are you trying to install? Do you have a custom recovery? If so, Xposed 2.5+ will give you an option to install normal via system or you can pick the option to install via recovery. I'd go that route. It's at the top of the framework install part of Xposed - there is a drop down box to choose install methods.
Edit: Looked at the picture you posted and you definitely have the newer version.

It very well could be something in it that isn't being friendly to the normal framework install method, but lemme know if it works the other installation way. If it does, then not a big deal either way.

I tried the other way and I still had the issue. So I did a clean installation of the rom again and it works now.
I guess something went wring when installing the rom which may have caused the issue.

What you want to do also after installing the rom freshly. Install the xposed v 2.5 rather than 2.5.1 because 2.5 works perfectly and there's no real need in updating it

I am having the same issue with the could not extract the zip file. I have tried what was suggested on this thread as well as reinstalled the rom 3 times. I have used this rom before with no problems. The only two other things I can think of trying are full wipe and format of the sd card or full unroot and revert to stock then reroot and try the rom again. Any thoughts?

You're using 2.5 (not 2.5.1) and still having issues? What phone, rom, etc? Might try rolling back to 2.4.1.
I have a Galaxy Note 3 and running wicked rom. I was having the problem just on 2.5.1 but on 2.5 everything would load but none of the modules were working after rebooting. Everything checked out (installed and unzipped) with no errors on 2.5.

Weird...What modules were you trying to use? When you go into the Framework part, does it show the app_process and XposedBridge.jar as green / active?
It did for the 2.5 version even tho nothing was working. I reverted back to 2.4.1 and things seem to be working at the moment. I was running Wanam and the kbs network module. I'm going to try and play around tonight with some other modules and see if the problem persists.
