[Q] Auto Volume Lowering? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I'm having a weird issue with the volume on this phone. I always keep my volume controls at maximum unless I need to change it later, but with this phone, even though I know the volume is at max, when i start a call, the call volume immediately drops lower and i have to turn it back up mid-call. It also drops the headset volume after unplugging a 3.5mm cable. I'm assuming that's in case you're listening to music with headphones and accidentally pull it out, so you don't end up blasting music in the middle of your office, but i use it in my car and it's an inconvenience to have to turn it back up every time i unplug it.
does anyone know of a fix for this, or did i miss a sound option for this somewhere?

The S3 had the same thing with the headset volume drop. I hate it cause I always keep it on the same volume for my car when I plug it in. I was never able to find a fix for the S3 besides ROMing so hopefully something comes for the note deuce.

Yeah, it is really annoying. Not a bad feature, just let us turn it off if we need to! Ugh.
I found several volume control apps/widgets that feature "volume locking". i'm going to try that, but now problem is the volume controls on the side are also locked and you can only control the volume through the app, also very inconvenient...

Success! I can confirm that VolumeManager can lock individual volume streams from changes based on criteria, including plugging in and unplugging the headset! It's also good for the call volume as I never turn it down anyway, i just keep that stream locked at all times.

Atrix Volume Problems

Hi,
I've been having consistent problems with volume, specifically being too low, and especially while connected to a bluetooth headset. I also noticed some odd, and likely related, behavior with the volume in general.
Here's how I see it: Start some music playing. Go to Menu > Settings > Sound > Volume and scrub the Media volume slider back and forth from 100% to 0% and back (and repeat).
On my Atrix, the max sound gets consistently lower each pass until it's silent, even at 100% setting. I think this is part of the issue with the media volume. As I adjust it up and down it loses some peak volume each time. I can bring it back up with a lot of tinkering (mostly through the OS volume controls and in PlayerPro), but I have not found the formula to deal with this in a normal way.
Has anyone else seen this, or can suggest a way to prevent or restore these volume anomalies? Running GB and rooted. Thanks!
I haven't seen this specific issue, but if you think the Atrix has volume problems, go try to use the Infuse without voodoo sound.
Are you saying I should try an Infuse ROM? I'm not sure what you're instructing me to do. Sorry for the extra clarification needed.
No, I'm just saying that your issues could be worse. The Infuse is another phone. Disregard my post if it confuses you.
I use PlayerPro also and have no issues over BT. I start my music playing, turn media volume up full via the volume up button, then control volume level after that with my headset.
I never go into the volume in settings, as it is greyed out for me. I am set on silent and vibrate always as I spend a lot of time in meetings.
My issue is not with PlayerPro or even BT (though it is more noticeable with it), the problem is that the audio gets progressively lower as I raise/lower the volume. PlayerPro does have some volume settings, which is why I mentioned it here.
I found an app called Volume+ that works fine with my rooted Atrix. It boosts the bluetooth audio. I still have the problems I listed above, but this one app may enough to get me over the hump.
I still would like to know what causes the strange volume behavior I'm experiencing above.

Media Volume disables overnight?

I regularly fall asleep while leaving my phone on streaming music. Sometimes when I wake up in the morning, there's no sound at all coming from the phone. The phone will still be on and the streaming app will still be running.
This happens with both 'Digitally Imported' and 'Winamp'(shoutcast). Again though, it doesn't happen all the time... just maybe 1 - 2 days out of the week. Once the media volume is disabled, no matter what I try doing, I can't get it to work again unless I reboot my phone.
Anyone else experience this? Is there a fix?
and yes.. unlimited data, that's why i stream so much ;0
wonkers! i am the only one this is happening to? ... or are you guys just shy? ...

My media volume issue is a little different...
Whenever I plug in my headphones or whenever I unplug my headphones, Media volume drops to zero....
Now, I can adjust it back up to where the setting should be, but it is a pain...

I've had that happen too but it went away when I re-installed my rom. Try that and if that doesn't fix it I'm not sure how to fix it.

[Q] Google Navigation keeps turning media volume down

Hey, everyone! This is my first post here, so be gentle.
I'm having some trouble with Google Navigation on my SGS3 from US Cellular. Now, I understand that the volume has been merged together with the media volume, and that's not really my issue.
When I enter Google Navigation, the media volume reads correctly. (I jacked it up to full volume just to test this out. It reads full volume when I start GN.) But when a turn-by-turn direction reads, the volume is really low. If I hit the volume up button during the TTS directions, it shows that the media volume is set very low. I can turn it up while the direction is speaking, and the media volume does increase. But the next time a direction begins saying something, it's quiet and the volume is reset really low again. I have to keep turning the volume up for each turn-by-turn direction!
When I exit GN, the media volume is back to full blast again, just as it was before I entered the app. So, it's obviously something GN is doing. I just don't get why it won't remember my volume setting when I turn it up.
Any ideas as to why it's doing this? Any thoughts on how to fix this issue? I did a bunch of searching and couldn't find anything that completely fits my problem description.
ETA: I tested this again, and it's only a problem if I have a media player fired up. I use n7. When it kills the volume for the media player, it does so for the navigation, too.
Unfortunately, even if I close n7, the volume is still ruined until I stop and restart my Bluetooth connection. If I start Bluetooth and run navigation without the media player, tts works fine.
Apparently the audio issue where it keeps turning my volume down is only when it's not connected to Bluetooth in my car.
do you even use google navigation? if not just disable it in setings

Well, it's difficult to use it when Navigation keeps messing up my audio. The phone is still pretty new to me. I just got it in January. I'd like to use it as my GPS, but I'm not going to go for a long drive without playing any music in my car. And I'm not going to just use GN anyway, when I'm likely to blow past my next turn because the audio directions don't work properly.
Why would I bother to ask the question if I don't use (or, in this case, want to use) Navigation? It's like you're implying that I'm asking about something I won't bother using anyway.
My workaround for this issue
I have the same issue; both music and nav volume drops during voice turn by turn instructions. I found the media volume is being turned from full to half during the nav/voice output. I use Volume Ace and it has a feature to "lock media volume". I check this box and now when a turn by turn instruction plays the nav/voice speaks at full volume (the media volume setting is no longer reduced to half during voice output) though the music is also playing at full volume in the background. Hope this helps.

That helps a lot. Thanks! I'll have to give this a try and see if it works on my phone.
Do you have to set the media volume lock each time you want to use the GPS? Seems like you'd need to turn it on/off only when you need to use the Navigation app.
Yes i have to turn the media lock on for gps and off for normal use. Its a hack for sure but at least i can hear the gPS voice prompts for now until Google fixes the maps app. Good luck.

Has anybody actually found a proper solution to this problem? I am having exactly the same issue on my new HTC one GE. If I pair my phone to my car via Bluetooth and use Copilot (navigation app) while playing music through the stock play music app, every time there's a voice prompt from copilot the music volume fades down, as it should, but then it doesn't automatically come back up when the prompt ends. I have to manually increase the volume which is both annoying and dangerous. To me it seems something rather simple to do but according to Copilot's customer support it entirely depends on my phone's capabilities, whatever that means. I know that I'll get a lot of grief by saying this, but my iPhone 4 could do this no problem.

I just stopped using my n7 media player and switched to Pandora radio. Pandora doesn't have this issue. It must have a separate volume control built into the app.

[Q] Very weird and frustrating volume issue

Hello all,
I am experiencing a very weird volume issue. I'm debating sending the phone in for the insurance, but I heard that this phone has stopped being sent back as a replacement, my buddy with the same one had to pick a different one. So I would like to find a workaround
Problem:
The volume is inconsistent, very much so, but only at very intermittent times, sometimes frequently. It starts at one of the two levels, low and high, and switches between the two sometimes 5 times in a few min or once every few day. it occurs across every application and every re-install of the venom rom.
It is a problem because 1. it is annoying, and 2.I have a very loud sound system in my car.
Normal loud listening volume is around 20-23 out of 35. i can turn it all the way up with no distortion and it is extremely loud at this point, loud enough to damage ears easily. When I turn it up that loud(at festivals) I like to wear earplugs in it. When I'm just driving I don't need it that loud, but I always ride to taste with the volume. Sometimes i don't look at the volume level on my car, the volume on my phone is up all the way but it has decided to take a low level to start today. While driving and not looking at the volume, just listening to it, i will usually set my volume at 33-35, then the phone decides to jump to it's loud setting making me cringe and swerve in pain and surprise as I sound like a rattling venue driving around. I have mostly solved this by just using my ipod. But I really like having spotify and pandora in there. plus android kicks ass, my ipod feels like a backup hard drive in it's waterproof case
Have Tried:
Pushing volume button up(does nothing when low)
Rebooting
Re-installing os
Bluetooth vs aux (both same problem)
resetting Bluetooth connection
removing and and pushing in headphones
placing a call
Guess:
it appears to not affect calls or ringer volume, just media volume, even speakerphone is unaffected. my guess is something in the audio processing section due to it affecting bluetooth and aux out. I have ruled out speaker, installed programs, connection type, time of day, specific mp3's, temperature, movement and what i'm doing on it. It is really stumping me, usually I can figure out what is broken on the inside of things hardware related, but I don't know the inner workings of this phone exactly.
Would like:
To know what is actually going on. A fix would be awesome, but I mainly want to know what it could possibly be. It has confused me for too long.
To know if the phone can be replaced for the same model to hold out until next summer
Would not like:
To be told to just get a new phone. I like this one and the rom on it. plus i already paid for it and a new battery. i will live with the issue until next summer if need be
Any ideas?
Which media player are you using? Since it only occurs during media playback perhaps a different media player will give you some insight

I usually use power amp.
Though the problem occurs across that, the stock media player, Pandora, spotify, youtube, flash videos. pretty much everything except for calls and ringer.
Try using a app that (re)sets the volume every time you connect to the radio via Bluetooth. I use a car dock that automatically launches my car app (car home ultra) when the phone is inserted, and the app then automatically sets the Bluetooth media volume to a preset volume every time.

[Q] That volume limit though..

How do I get rid of that. Every time I try to raise the volume full blast, I get a disclaimer telling me not to.. I have to manually say ok to allow the loud volume I like.. It annoys me the most with my headphones plugged in since I have to take my phone out of my pocket to finish raising the volume, cause the limiter won't let me from my headphones.. Doesn't matter if I use PowerAmp or Google Music or whatever..

If you are rooted and have xposed installed, you can download Wanam and they have an option in their menu through "sound" to disable it. Haven't tried it before on the s5 though.
