[Q] TV out on MIUI jellybean Galaxy sII question - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Evening,
Was wondering if anyone could give me advice, I am trying to connect my S2 running MIUI jellybean to a LG 32lh2000 with a Micro usb to MHL adapter.
Its not working, nothing comes on screen, nothing changes on phone when connected to tv. I was wondering if it was the ROM, the TV, the lead or maybe the phone
Can anyone give advice, on wither this is possible with this rom ? Phone or TV ?
I cant test it on another tv or with another phone.
I would really like to get this working.
Thank you in advance

By "MIUI jellybean", are you referring to this ROM? If so, that ROM has a CM10 base. See the list of known CM10 issues for the i9100. (which was conveniently linked for you in post one of the ROM thread)

thank you

Once again, thank you.

[Q] (Q) Nook Table/HP netbook Merger-is it possible?

Hello everyone, I am very happy to be a part of this forum. I love my NT 16GB with CM7. It is awesome.
I have an old HP Mini 1000 netbook with a bad hard drive and no screen. My thought is to mount the tablet in the area where the screen was and use the keyboard/mouse/camera/speakers and periferals. I suppose I would have to cause the tablet to function as motherboard/screen and attach all devices through usb. It is probably more work than it is worth, but would be neat to see. Let me know what all you smart folks think.

with a fully functioning ( ota ? ) usb port, then YES.
Totally out of my knowledge base here, but I think I remember reading something about "USB hosting" needing to be enabled in order to use USB peripherals. The NC has this cracked, but I don't think anyone has figured this out for the NT yet.

Tell me what you know about the NC's usb port please. . And I remember too that the development person toiling away on the new kernel @Kurma30, said the port's got no power ( oh no ! ) and so you need a powered hub -or- custom wiring ( ? ? ? ) to get usb to first base. Hmm.

[Q] Still no HDMI output using the HTC MHL adapter

Hello everyone.
This has been driving me crazy all day long.
I tried connecting the HTC AC M500 MHL adapter with my rooted Jestream to a TV using all sorts of tutorials and how-tos online, but to no avail.
The charger I am using is the HTC 9V, 1.67A one that's used for the Flyer.
The only things I have not tried yet are restoring factory settings, and using the HDMI capble that came with the MHL adapter.
I have tried connecting it to a Samsung 42" TV (model unknown) using a PS3 cable up to now.
Will attempt on a Sony 46" TV using the HDMI cable that came with the adapter on Monday, but until then, I just have to know what I've been doing wrong all this time.
I've been looking through forums, articles and YouTube videos all day long. It's driving me crazy.
Anyone have any ideas?
UPDATE: tried it on a Sony TV using the HTC HDMI cable with the MHL adapter while charging. Rebooted twice. Still nothing.
2nd UPDATE: tried turning HDMI control off on the Samsung TV (HDMI CEC). Still nothing.
Can anyone guess if unrooting the device and restoring factory settings would fix this?
have you tried putting the stock kernel back on? might be an issue with the doom kernel if that is what you are using.

No, but it's last on my list on things to try (that, along with the factory reset).
I will try using Airplane Mode ON, Media Sync ON as the default connection mode and USB Debugging OFF (I don't know why that's on my list, but there you go), before I try replacing the kernel.
Also, as far as the kernel's concerned: I checked on the kernel version and it seems to be the same as the stock kernel number and all. Was there an update on the doom kernel, or did I mess up the process and not install it properly?
Kernel version:
2.6.35.10-g01487c4
[email protected] #1
Well, I tried the above and still nothing. Kernel replacement's up next (assuming I don't have the stock one on already. Anyone care to confirm?), and factory reset as the last resort.
Could anyone tell me if I have the stock kernel installed?
Kernel version:
2.6.35.10-g01487c4
[email protected] #1
I am really inexperienced at this, and even though I tried flashing the Doom kernel when rooting, I don't know if I did it properly.
I've noticed in other threads that the Doom kernel is listed differently in the system settings.
I'd like to know if I do have to flash the stock kernel (unless I already have it) to test out the MHL adapter, which I still haven't managed getting it to work.
Any help/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

yes, i have the same kernel (stock jetstream), but instead g01487c4 i have g4612ecf
i can only advice you few things:
at-first, check mhl on other device to be sure it works
at-second, try to use 5v htc charger (i think it may cause problems with mhl)
at-last, try to buy cheap 5$ mhl on ebay or any chinese web-sites (i'm waiting for such thing now)

Thanks for replying! I had given up hope.
I'll see what I can try about checking the MHL on another device.
As for the second advice, I've tried both chargers. They seem to send power fine, but MHL doesn't work.
And as for the 3rd, yeah, I guess I could try that.
Q: can I use CWM to backup the system, change the kernel, and eventually change back using the CWM if the stock kernel doesn't work either? Or would I have to go through the process of changing the kernel again?
Thanks for all the advice!

cwm will backup hole system, so you can easily return to your backup from recovery
try stock rom or just stock kernel, if you are using custom kernel it may brings big changes to OS
i have received my 5 usd mhl and it works perfectly with stock kernel and doomlord kernel as well
but only one thing that killed me is that output resolution is just 720p
so, i have a question: what resolution does oem htc ext microusb mhl have?

when you connect it to the tv the resolution must appear in the corner.
it can be 720p, 720i, 1080p, 1080i

Ah, OK. I won't know till it actually connects, then. All I get now is "no signal".
Will know by the end of the week, hopefully.
Well, I changed back to the original kernel, and still there's no signal when connecting to the TV. A friend of mine has an HTC One X, so I'll test it on her phone when we next meet up.
If that doesn't work either, then I'll have to get another MHL adapter, but as you can tell from my really slow follow-up-ing on this, I kinda lost interest by now. :S
Could someone with working HDMI output through the MHL adapter paste the contents of their build.prop file here, please?

The setup is a simple "Plug n Play" solution using the HTC AC M500 12pin MHL HDMI Adaptor, with a standard Type-A HDMI cable. No power source was required.
Make sure the TV (I used a RCA 42"HDTV) is properly configured (i.e. Source > HDMI) to receive the signal.
In terms of the reception, the output was measured at HD 1080p with awesome HD Sound.

MHL not working - any ideas?

Hi guys, I got an oem MHL to hdmi cable from eBay, one specifically for the galaxy s3.
I received it today and while the phone seems to detect it's attached to a screen (audio set to hdmi out, landscape mode), the two devices I can connect it to both register nothing connected.
Is there something missing? The first device is a monitor using a hdmi to dvi adapter, the second is a 720p tv with hdmi in. The tv allows me to select the hdmi it's plugged into but says there's no signal.
Does anyone have any ideas?

maybe the adapter does not work with the S3 after all.
Maybe you will find some solution in the accessories threat or here
Can you post up the link to the advert you bought it from?

Thanks. I think it should work, the item description is pretty clear.. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/viewitem?itemId=200829302467
I might see if I can test it on some more tvs. There was a suggestion it may not work with a 720p device.
Sad thing is, they're all Samsung screens.
Are you powering the device from another USB port.
All MHL adapters and cables for the Galaxy S2/3 need to be powered by an external USB port.

Ok it looks like it might be an issue with the ROM, using an AOKP build of JB 4.1.2
Apparently it doesn't support the TV out - shame, I thought I'd finally found the ROM I was going to stick with
Does anyone know a way of getting it working under AOKP?
sorry man, but only on stock roms you can use tv-out. At least for now, lets hope the sources promised for november include mhl tv-out propietary driver from samsung.

Thanks man - I might go to omega's stock-based rom and see if I can get any love with that. Cheers for the help everyone
Edit: For anyone finding this by search later, using a stock ROM does fix the issue. God I can't wait to go back to AOKP though, stock is terrible
I gotta bring this up again... i had same issues when i was on aokp roms. But now.. 4 samsung roms and numerous kernels later i cant get the MHL to work! If you get the cheap ones there's a huge chance of it not working just from looking through feedback on the Internet. Just spend a bit extra and get a samsung one.
Ive tried mine on many different roms and kernels and it always works.
P.s has anyone managed to get netflix in 16.9 widescreen using the mhl adaptor on jelly bean?:crying:
It's the samsungs 1, that i bought from my carrier. And adapter is fine since my friend got it work with note 2 :/

[DEV] MHL

Hello Everyone! This is a movement/project to get MHL going on CM10 ROMs. I have started tearing into it as some of you may have seen on some other threads, but I am just a noob
I would love some help on this. I am not good with programming or working with source so i have posted my changes on pastebin. Reason for that is so that you guys (and gals) can help out! If you know what you're doing and can build with some changes you make yourself, please go ahead and do so, but keep me informed. If you are not as savvy with this stuff like me, you can still help by searching through the code and trying to see what is missing or out of place! Thank you to all that help out. Post any news or questions here!
Pastebin ==> http://pastebin.com/u/slingerdroid
Attached log files from attempting MHL use on AOSP and actually doing it on Sense 3.6.
Big Thank you to SirGatez

I thought thus was used for HDMI only and not the mhl connector.
Cm10 trys to output video to USB when connected to the mhl device. It just doesn't know how. Someone posted a logcat and it shows its passing the information to com.android.athome.mediaroute.provider
But errors right there. Unless I'm looking at the wrong error. But I need to look at it some more. Couldn't do much at work today. :/

I've been reading a lot and CM10 seems like it has problems with MHL anyways. You say it tries to push it through USB but just doesn't know how to. That would be kernel issue would it not?
I will be able to start testing when I get my MHL adapter back tomorrow. I got a lot of free time to test since I'm done updating recoveries for now
EDIT: I reading more and saw where one guy somehow changed his refresh rate to [email protected] inside of the kernel. So is it somewhere in there most likely???
im also good to test. might be sending the phone in though so sooner rather than later would be good. It seems that everything starts with the ActivityManager file... i could be wrong though.

Kernel is built with HTC source. I would think it would carry over but I'm no way a kernel dev. The jar file posted in the other thread might be needed but I haven't had time to look at it yet. As it sits now the phone doesn't know how to pass the information from the screen to the USB mhl to the TV. I think the reason why screen says source and just black is because its getting some sort of output.

I think the real issue is as I discussed else where (where I posted the logs in CounterShrike) and the issue is that the kernel has everything it needs to utilize MHL hardware and the HDMI out driver is functioning (but separate from the actual media pipeline. The pipeline portion that MHL require to function (the middleman that takes the graphics, sound and sends them to MHL hardware) does not seem to be in our sources (not the kernel, but the libraries) because it is proprietary. I am going to experiment with trying to hack the display middleman into AOSP and see if it works, with any luck it will be drop in and won't require anything HTC specific.
In Stock once the MHL cable is connected an HDMI broadcast is sent and picked up by the DisplayListener which responds by handshaking and configuring the MHL/HDMI output of the device before handing off to the AudioListener which does the same. AOSP is not performing any of this short of identifying the MHL cable is connected and rotating the home screen for display (it also appears any portrait app besides the home screen stays in portrait mode regardless of MHL cable connected)
This is an issue affecting many MHL capable devices, NOT just the Rezound. I have read MHL does work on some AOSP devices but I have not been able to locate any source to specific roms capable of it (which could help us). I think our best bet is a hack until we can get/find proper source.
Once we can get the DisplayListener and AudioListener to handshake with MHL/HDMI hardware like Stock we can identify what else we may need to fix if we are still without picture and or audio.

Hmm..That is true. Should be taken from original source unless Chad has modified a file which I doubt that is the case.
EDIT: Or what he said above This guy has his MHL fix in his kernel at https://github.com/ZenArcade/Infusion-GB-Z/commit/e70be75f5e709ef17df9dd2705bee1b810e0a2b6
waiting for a reply back from meetmhl on exactly what files are used in the api. Hopefully it's something as simple as missing a lib.

I believe this rom has working MHL. https://github.com/rascarlo/platfor...jb-ras-mr1/core/java/android/hardware/display
Very good work cslingerland and Flyhalf205. Could one of our AOSP devs check this code out and see if compiling it into the ROM resolves our MHL problems? I do not currently have a development environment setup Someone would likely beat me to having a compiled library ready. I would have to D/L some source first as I haven't done any kernel dev work since Gingerbread. Thanks!
FYI, HDMI/MHL has nothing to do with USB, they just share a connector (it can do USB or MHL, not both).

[Q} MHL Mirroring / Blue Output

I've tried a few different things for my s-off E4G LTE, but I can't figure out how to get mhl working with full mirroring, anyone have any luck with this?
I've tried Meanbean 3.09, works sometimes, but only the status bar is visible.Works fully when playing a video from gallery/youtube. When it doesn't work I get a black output to the tv, and digital looking non-responsiveness from the phones screen, usually followed by a power cycle to get it working again. I have gotten the phones screen to show up normal after a few presses of the power button, but it still didn't mirror to the TV correctly.
Recently, I tried using ViperRom 3.1.7, but alas the same exact situation, digital looking feedback on the touch screen, and blue output to the TV only showing the status bar.
I tried flashing other kernels while using both roms, and they didn't fix anything. If you have it working, what combinations of roms/kernels are you using?
Also the adapter is fine, I've used it with an s2 to achieve full mirroring, and I have been able to play videos full screen to the TV with this phone, once.
Thanks for your time.
Mirroring works fine for me on CM.

Which version? 10.1?
Edit: Looking at the thread for cm10.1, it states mhl doesn't work. Please do explain how you have it working on aosp, as thats what I prefer to use anyway.
