[Q]is there any apps to enable lock/unlock s3 with magnetic sensor built in in S3? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

juz bought S3 few days ago, felt that the Power button has been a bit loose because of pressing it very frequently as it is the only way to lock and unlock the screen.
been tried with some apps that unlock the screen by using the proximity sensor like Smart Screen On, Power Switch etc, but all of these apps draining my phone battery 30% faster than before as it has to be keep the proximity sensor awake and can not be place into deep sleep.
and i just found out that S3 has a built in magnetic sensor in it, how cool is that? btw, I started to think what's the function of the magnetic sensor? can i use it to lock or unlock the screen by using the sensor just like what ipad + smart cover does?
been google search for a while on this topic but no luck.
so posting this question here and hope someone can help in any.
would like to know where is the position of the magnetic sensor as well. (cause may be will diy one flip cover with magnet to work with the idea)
thanks

No idea on the magnetic sensor,
but to highlight, you can also use the home button to unlock, that would decrease the use of the power button by 50%

you can do this with Tasker. You can make contextual tasks depending on any sensor you have.
Although it is not easy to learn how to use it...
search the forum for Tasker topic and you will find some help.

wake prime from sleep without pressing power?

We DESPERATELY need a way to wake the Prime up from sleep without using the power button-
Even Apple uses the Light sensor to wake the I-pad up when the smart-cover is lifted from the glass.
Are there any light sensor apps that work with the prime? a leather case would block the light sensor when closed, and when open the light would pass back through to wake the tablet up-
- PS Widget locker does not work either-
Please developers, or someone out there, if you know a way to do wake the prime from sleep without pressing the power button, please share!
Our power buttons will go bad in no time without another option.
i still haven't found anything that works!
Thanks ----
Apple actually uses magnets built into the ipad, and the smart cover to sleep and wake the device.
Using the light sensor, even when the device is sleeping would absolutely hurt the battery.
You could use no lock, and then use the volume buttons as well as the power button to wake. But I don't think theres any way to use the light sensor unless you can whip something up in tasker or something.
Edit: thought about this some more.. Does our smart cover turn the screen on and off to?? you could probably attach a magnet to the leather case if it works the same way.
The smart cover for prime does not turn on screen when opened.
I do however find the cover fairly useful unlike many of the other reviews I've read. Kind of expensive, but I was okay with what I got/paid for.
I'm not sure I understand. When you have the dock paired up with the Prime, it will Turn the screen off and back if you close/open the "device". I'm assuming this is the equivalent to Sleep. I get exceptional battery life with the dock and I believe this is because it goes to sleep when closed.
Are you asking for a resolve without the dock?
You could try autolock.
Dont think how esle you can do that..... other then pressing vol up and down.

Anyone who likes flip cases check this out

So anyone who's a fan of flipcases, i assume you'd like a feature to switch your screen over when you cover the screen with the actual flip thing, check this app out https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danielkao.autoscreenonoff&hl=en_GB
when you cover your Proximity sensor it'll detect it and switch your screen on, until it gets removed it'll turn it back on
Thanks! will check it out
i am using gravity screen, it does the same and it works perfectly.
battery draining isn't much more since i am using this
I'M guessing this is going to kill the battery, I remember a mod like this for the HTC One X it drank a lot of battery.
Depends on how power-hungry the proximity sensor is.

My screen started being always off during calls regardless of rom

Another thread about this stupid sensor.
My screen goes black when I call or answer a call. If I use a headset sometimes randomly the screen comes on or stays on when I answer a call.
The proximity sensor is working. Looking in *#*#7378423#*#* > Service tests > Ambient Light Sensor.
Putting it to a lamp gives a value of 10.0 and putting my finger over the sensor gives 0.0 .
So its working.
This seems to not be rom related if not for the change after Android 4.4. I flashed roms from cm-12.1-20161016-NIGHTLY-togari.zip, AOSP_N_161207_togari.zip and now I am on hybrid_concept_edition_2.0.zip.
I do have a screen protector on. But with a hole for the sensor. Its not dirty in that area. And the sensor worked fine way before I installed it.
This started happening during the last two months or so.
I tried numerus of apps from play store. None did anything. Of course I could force the screen to be on. But with the risk of pushing some buttons when I'm in a call.
My temporary fix so far has been to enable end call with power button
Do you have any idea what to do?
Thank you
I'm facing this same problem, I'm on stock.

yup.. I had mine apart today. But you need to remove the battery in order to flip the motherboard around to get to the connector.
I don't have time for that. Perhaps the battery will explode if I try to remove it..
So I cut a piece of foam plastic to fit around the usb connector so there is a constant pressure applied to the motherboard when screwed down the NFC antenna because there is a screw just around this area that sets the NFC antenna in place.
Hang on. I just made a call just for the sake of it that you answered to my thread and it freakin works!!!!!!!!!!!
I got the idea from this guy/gal: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...olution-proximity-sensor-fix-z-ultra-t3595525

Fingerprint scanner not working when always on display is off

Did you guys notice that you cannot unlock the phone when the always on display is off ?
Eg. You're keeping the phone in the pocket, you reach for it and take it out. The display hasn't yet fired up (while the phone is in the pocket the AOD is inactive) and at the same time you put your finger on the scanner. This should wake and unlock the phone at the same time but instead only the AOD comes up and screen is not being unlocked.
You can simulate this by locking the phone, covering the front sensors with eg your finger until the AOD turns it self off. Then place your finger on the scanner. The phone should get woken up and unlocked but it stays locked and off.
Anybody knows how to fix it ?
I dont use AOD ..... and mine works fine.
Relax. This is by design to keep it from waking up in your pocket, bag or whatever when you reach in for something else. You'd be even madder if you took your phone out only to find it had been woken up in your pocket and took 106 photos and placed four phone calls and sent texts to your friends that made them call the police because they thought you had a stroke.
It's not that I'm worried about accidental wake ups...
There's a delay between the phone enabling the fingerprint sensor after uncovering the front light sensors etc. which makes the phone to not register the touch on it for unlocking.

And now you know why it does that. You might not be worried about accidental wake ups but most people would probably be highly annoyed to take their phone out and find it firing off 20 photos. of pocket lint.

Huawei Nova 5T Proximity sensor problem

I have a problem. It's the Nova 5T. It was bought on the of this month and I was not able to follow the situation as it was on Android 9 / EMUI 9.1 or 10.0 because EMUI 10.1 arrived soon! It literally went uodate for an update! I don't even know how I noticed, but there is a problem with the proximity sensor. Namely, when the phone is in a horizontal position, for example on a desk, and a call is in progress, the proximity sensor does not respond, ie the phone turns on the screen regardless of the proximity sensor being covered and in that case it should keep the screen off. In a horizontal position and a little when the phone is lifted, a few millimeters, the sensor does not seem to be covered by a finger, it does not react but the screen is on, which should certainly not happen. I tried with a hard reset but everything is the same. Can you tell me, how is it with you who have this phone? I wonder, is this a possible bug in EMUI 10.1, is it a normal function in EMUI 10.1 or is the proximity sensor on the phone simply broken? In case I do the same only the other way around, then I turn the phone screen towards the floor, e.g. I cover the proximity sensor with my finger and hold the phone horizontally. The phone and sensor respond normally and the phone screen does not light up during a call. Let me note that the proximity sensor in the upright position of the phone, for example when the call takes place and the phone is on the ear, normally turns off the screen and everything is fine. The phone is not as agile as the carousel rotates in different slits, poses and angles to test its correctness, this problem was noticed quite by accident. If someone has this phone, it would be helpful for me to write if it is the same with him or if there is a problem in my phone! I would ask someone from Huawei to answer me. Sorry for my poor English. Thank you
