Convince Me: One X+ over Nexus 4 (N4) - HTC One X+

I am planning to get a new phone and i cannot decide between the One X+ (international ver.) and the LG Nexus 4 (N4).
I want:
Extremely Smooth.
A nice UI (User Interface) to brag about.
A future proofed phone
Hard Gaming
Downloading - Wifi g/b/n optional /a
Above average battery life - lasts a day or more.
And lastly, i will not root my phone as soon as i get it - but i might think about it. But, it may be unlikely.
For:
I would get a N4. but, i hate the fact that i would not be able to get HTC's awesome widgets. - Weather...
The N4 is basically similar to Apex Launcher.
Against:
I am getting tired of the sense interface. It is very similar to Gingerbread. - which makes it kind of boring.
Nexus has the new gen specs - flagship processor, 2GB Ram..
I am actually happy with my current HTC Desire Z - rooted with ELITEMOD. But the thing which annoys me a lot is the battery life - 7-8 hours minimal use - no games.
Other phone suggestions are welcome. Not LG, GS3, iPhone.
PS. I like touchwiz, but the SGS3 is not a option.
I dislike the name LG, so it is not a option - Yes i am picky. With a exception for the Nexus series.
...A decently new phone which WILL get the Jellybean update.
Update:
If you are reading this in 2013, I recommend getting the HTC M7, Nexus 7, or if you are in the main stream get the S4, or the New Samsung Galaxy Note (not the note 2).
Rumours say the M7 n the new galaxy note will have a camera which is above 10 megapixels. Rumours also say the HTC M7 will have a tegra 4 processor.

How about the Razr HD Maxx?
3300mAh battery, so plenty for extended gaming sessions, and it is due to get Jellybean very soon. Might not be cutting edge enough on the specs front though with only a dual core S4 & 1gb ram.
I've only had my One X+ for 8 days and haven't done much gaming to be honest, but I have noticed that extended periods of browsing can chew through the battery, so gaming would run it down even quicker ( depending on your screen brightness level I suppose )
Tbh if the Razr had an lcd / ips screen I would have one now instead of the One X+ as I hate amoled screens. That was the only thing that stopped me picking one up.

Thanks, but what is so bad about amoled screens.

For me it's how they can over saturate the colours, and that whites can look more of a grey / blue colour than proper white. You do get deeper blacks with an amoled screen though.
It doesn't bother most people to be honest, and a lot of people like the over saturated look, but I personally prefer the more natural image quality & colours of a good lcd / ips screen.

Does the Nexus 4 have wifi hotspot, HSDPA+ (4G), and duel band (2.4ghz and 5ghz) wifi?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app

HTC one X+
1.7ghz Quad
Amazing SLCD 2 "best display on the market"
Jellybean 4.1 with sense 4+ on top.
8mp image sense camera (dedicated processing chip)
64GB Memory, 55 available to the user.
Nexus 4
1.5ghz quad
Decent 720p display
Mediocre camera
Very fragile glass back
32 or 16 GB memory.
Idk why you ask when the specs are all over xda. I mean the nexus 4 will be smoother, and sense is too in your face, but I'd go with the HOX+. Sorry Google, but HTC has probably the best build quality for its phones out there, no argument can be made. Samsung and just about every other manufacturer uses plastics that make the device feel cheap.

Just to chime in
I've been kicking around the same decision re: Nexus 4 vs HOX+. Having a Nexus 7, I love the look of stock Jellybean. Not a fan of the Sense Graphics/Themes and find the look dated (as mentioned in this thread already). If there was a foolproof way to install AOSP on the HOX+ and get the Google OTA updates, that would make my decision for me. If anyone knows of this option, I'm all ears.
Not to hijack the thread or anything. If I have to start a new one, I will. But since the OP original decision making process may require this info (really reaching here) then it could be answered without a new thread subject.
On another note, the reason for my leaning to the OneX+ is: Design: the feel of this phone in the hand is second bar none. Screen: Superb. Storage: Huge and therefore, lack of SD not a concern. Second Iteration: the kinks have been worked out of its construction, quality appears very good. Camera: One of the best 8mp on a smartphone with good camera software to boot.
Negative: Software: UI Design looks old, less sophisticated to my eyes. Updates: with stock Sense 4+ they will be slow and most likely stop before updates stop rolling out for the Nexus 4 stock.

Get the HOX+ its a no brainer really!!!!! Its the best device out right now!!! Even better than the DNA. I just got mine today, coming from a HTC ONE X, this phone is perfect. Its got 64gb of storage, jb, and sense......what else could a guy want?!!!! Its the perfect device in my mind.

Suggestions about a new android phone

I'm about to change my old Desire with a new phone... but i'm very undecided on my choose.
I have no budget limit, but i want to spend well my money...
I'm interested in full ICS support that come with Galaxy Nexus, but some features don't like to me (plastic case, design, easy-to-scrath display, "old" cpu and gpu) ...
I like so much new HTC One series (especially One X) but it has too much inch for me and the nvidia soc doesn't persuade me (after have seen lg 2x problems) ...
so there is HTC One S, but here i don't like the design (much more beautiful on OneX) and to tell the truth, i like original interface of ICS, i don't want Sense also because is too "Social-print" (i don't have facebook, twitter, google+)
I'm so confused
Hmmm, Samsung galaxy s2? If your still into HTC phones maybe XE or XL.

S2 is getting old ...
maybe the best thing is to wait for S3
First your current available
Well SGS2 has the best processor of that generation, shame about the TW muddled OS. This is the only thing that lets it down.
The GalNexus is almost indentical with a bigger screen, excellent noise cancellation, processor almost as good but ecellent stock vaniila guaranteed upgrade but no gorilla glass, and micro SD card.
The HTC One X -- Quad Core, large screen, ICS, Good camera with nice features. No removable battery, no microsd card. See debate about Quad vs Dual Core to decide where you stand
For deciding phones in the future might be good

For a fair as you can find evaluation of quad core vs top dual core

Seeing as the Krait S4 performs quite well, I'd suggest the ASUS padfone as a strong contender for your purchase.

best thing to do now is wait... obviously for SGS3. That does not mean SGS3 is your best option… you should wait & then compare HTC One X , SGS3 & LG optimus 4X

Galaxy Nexus is getting cheaper by the second, and will undoubtedly take a further price dive after the S3 comes out (hopefully in a month or too), so that's an option. However, you said you had unlimited budget, and didn't like GN so much. (Also, it is a "last-generation" phone, though not outdated or anything.)
You never mentioned if rooting was an option. If so, you can get stock ICS on pretty much anything (I'd wait for the S3 to compare it to our current options, then). If not, your choices are far more limited (most of them not even out yet): http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/q9zvm/phones_with_stock_ice_cream_sandwich/
Either wait for S3 or go for S2 and root it. Flash ICS rom and you are golden..
Can anyone tell me what the main differences are when you compare gnexus with the stock ROM vs gs2 with rooted ics rom? The differences in speed smoothness etc

Engadget Review of One X+

Hi all. Engadget has just released their review of One X+. Just wanted to share.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/31/htc-one-x-plus-review/
They basically say;
- Sense has improved and runs a bit smoother.
- Front camera has drastically improved.
- Battery life is same as One X.
- There is only one color option which is black matte.
- Photo and video quality is same as One X and they think it lags behind the competition.
- The processor is faster and it shows itself in real world usage.
- Camera lens is still prone to scratch.
- Taking photos is even faster.
- Volume is significantly higher with Beats Audio enabled.
and so on...
So basically not really worth upgrading once the one x receives jelly bean?

It's a personal preference. It brings faster performance, 64 GB storage, probably less problematic hardware than One X (remember wifi, screen problems of One X) and more.. They just say if it was using S4 Pro it would have had better battery life but still it's a lovely phone.

I would buy One X or One X+ only if I like Sense. Well, I do but I couldn't buy One X since it had hardware issues when I was looking for. Maybe HTC solved these issues, we will see but right now if I had a solid One X without problems, I wouldn't buy One X+. If I had GS3, I would still buy it because missed Sense as I'm using GN right now.

I love my DNA but in your situation, I'd take the One without hesitation. Although our support is good (to me) the One will get wayyyy more support due to the widespread release and availability. Personally, I'd do it just for those two b*tchin-azz speakers
I have the Droid DNA and played with the One side by side at the announcement a couple weeks ago. The One has alittle more weight to it. The design of the phone is incredible though. The dual front speakers, etc. And you know they will support the One and delay on the other devices as usual. If you trying to get on VZW though I dont think its coming for them. Right now Tmob, Sprint and ATT.
Its the same phone. Depends on what you like to look at.
After the htc one honeymoon period its just a DNA with metal body.

If you're referring to the new HTC One, if i'm not mistaken about its name, then it would probably be the better choice to pick that because it's 'slightly' better. Not to mention global and will probably give you a little more support.
Although if you had to pay more or wait / do anything special for it. DNA would be my choice, they're both so great that it doesn't really make a difference anymore. Storage could be an issue with some people, but not in my case.
There is only ONE answer

Go for the HTC One, it will get more ROM support for a longer time, has improved in every aspect over the DNA, and is HTC's only flagship for 2013, or so they say. The DNA may not go beyond sense 5, while the One will surely go beyond

Deciding what phone to get

I'm thinking about changing phones I'm on T-Mobile with my amaze no longer under contract. I was looking at what they have to offer and had 4 thoughts. I'm looking for input.
1. Get the iPhone 5 and sell it to make a profit and keep using my amaze
2. Get the HTC one the processor isn't much faster than the amaze and the camera isn't as good and it also lacks SD card slot
3 get the nexus 4 16gb looks pretty nice quad core processor and is aosp but still lacks an SD card slot
4 keep my amaze and wait till it craps out.
What do you guys think? And I checked out the HTC one forums and saw sports on there so I personally ask you sports how's the HTC one

I tried new htc one. Old htc one, nexus 4 and LG Optimus g cousin, s3 and note 2. All much faster than amaze. All great phones.
In the end because I didn't want to lock into contract, nexus 4 and LG Optimus g were hundreds less than the rest. Went with Optimus for LTE. Arrives this week.
Hoping when s4 is finally on display in my area I don't regret it. Based on reviews like trusted tech heads at arstecnica the new LG Optimus g pro phablet is the benchmark king. Out shortly if you like the size.
Keeping my amaze as my ORD phone.

I saw someone using the HTC One in my school and I had to do a double take cause it looks so pimping in person.

Go with the ONE. Hands down, the best phone I've ever had. I got the chance to play around with the s4..wife has the note2. It's a good device but nothing like the one. S4 was choppy and laggy, the other stuff is just rusty bells and whistles. My ONE chews up everything I throw at it...no lag. I watched a few videos on it here and there but today I watched Zero Dark Thirty and was blown away. I'm keeping this [email protected]!

Before picking up any phone I would make sure to check out what bugs people are noticing in the forums. Things like how the amaze capacitor lights bleed etc.
No regrets on not waiting for s4. Tried one out for an hour yesterday. Great phone. Just not hundreds of dollars greater than others I looked at. Happy I went with unlocked lg.

I've been using a HTC One for the past couple days and it's really fast. The front speakers sound clear and pictures are all right. The phone has no grip though so you might want to pick up a case on Amazon. The profiting from an iPhone sounds like too much work for not enough money. The Amaze is still quick for most things so unless you hate it I think you should keep it.
Go with the HTC one. It's great and development is amazing! Battery is also awesome. I get 4hrs screen on time! Sense 5 is also very fast and minimalistic making it an aosp like Rom that just tons of extra features!
I upgraded from my amaze.
You can also use the HTC logo as a Menu button so you won't lose screen realestate from an on screen menu button.

Trade my S4 for a One?

Hey guys and gals, I have about 2 hours to make up my mind. I know this is almost pointless to ask on the HTC One forum, but I will anyways lol.
I just signed up to AT&T about a month ago and chose the S4 at that time. I have been going back and forth and toying with the idea of getting a One.
There is a guy locally who wants to do a straight trade with me. What do you guys think? What would I gain with the One that I don't have with the S4?
Thanks!

I have had my One for a couple weeks and I'm coming from an S3. The only things bothering are can't remove the battery and no MicroSd. I'm quickly realizing that I don't need to carry around my entire music library on the card, but having to annoyingly plug in sometimes 2x a day isn't going away. The speaker in front are awesome as well as the metal body. I don't know if I'll trade it in, but as of now I'm liking this phone a lot.
Thanks for the info. I went and checked it out and backed out of the deal. I don't think I would ever be able to get over the button placement, rooted or not. And the feel of the buttons was not fun either. And the notification led was a joke. They may as well not even put one. For some reason I really rely on the s4 one lol.
For now I'm sticking with the s4 but I will update this thread if I change my mind.

After using quite a few Android devices, the button placement didnt take long to get used to at all personally. Plus I really dont like having a physical button to press at all, thats just another moving part. The S4 is decent but theres way to much Samsung crap installed on it that gets used a few times, then forgotten about as well. Sure I could root it and install GE roms or what have you, im just very partial towards HTC myself over Samsung. A company that has its back against the wall is more likely to pump out a quality high end device to try to win back its market share, and the One is a perfect showing of that as opposed to Samsungs "blanket the market with alot of devices" approach
Either way, the One and the S4 are the TOP of the line at the moment, and you really cant go wrong with either.
Get a Moto X. You will never look back.

HTC One is far better than the x

Lol. I played with the X in a store and thought it was a joke. Flimsy feeling build quality, horrific camera and vanilla Android with a couple extra features.
If I wanted that I would get a nexus 4 for much cheaper. Except it has much better build quality.

The X is faster than any phone (I have all of them). Excellent build quality. Active notifications, touch free, Motorola Connect, best battery on any phone (actual use) and fastest (even faster than my Z Ultra with quad core 1.9ghz).

Other than a few extra software features, what does it have over the nexus 4 which is much, much cheaper off contract? I understand the nexus doesn't have LTE, but the Moto X is extremely overpriced for what it is. It felt like a toy in my hand, I don't understand where you get excellent build quality from.
And there is already a free app in the play store that does active notifications. Even though I don't currently own it, the One blows the X away. Just my opinion.

Yeah I thought the One was good until I got the X. It has separate processors to handle the touch free (if you installed that free app your battery would die in an hour). I thought the X would suck be caused of specs. I buy every new phone an d compare them. I hated the Nexus 4 so no comparison. Terrible battery, felt weird in the hand, wireless charging was good. The new X has a crazy good feel in the hand. And those software add ons are huge.

The camera is great on my One and Zoe rocks. But I always hated holding the phone for long. The edges dig into your ha ds and phone is huge for 4.7 screen.

I'd love to have a Moto X honestly but it is overpriced for what it offers and the One is just a superior device all around

The Moto x is nice but not better or faster then the One period
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
The moto X is an overpriced joke. The One and S4 still are better. With the LG G2, HTC One Maxx and Note 3 coming...the moto X is pointless. I believe the Nexus 5 will be announced by end of this year.

I went from a s4 to the HTC one and I'm glad I did the s4 is a s3 with a bunch of stuff crammed in it the phone was rushed I think that the s3 was better I didn't get that wow factor or that I got a new phone so I can't put it down whith the s4 if you come across that trade later down the road take it the HTC one is the better phone this year and I had all the samsung phones all the way back to the samsung nexus I think they drop the ball this year

I think if they skipped the whole made in America thing the phone would be priced at 99 and be worth the money

Have a moto x and HTC one from Att been using HTC one as daily driver for about 5 weeks paid 199 for it got the moto x for free through a friend that works for Att last Friday and they are both brilliant devices with their on separate charms and personality with that said I find myself using the moto x more and more its just as fast as HTC one and feels more comfortable in the hand its a very good device for everyday use it is better than s4 I had and I think better than my beautiful highly speced HTC one but that is just my opinion from using both I don't think moto x will be a hit because people look at specs and price at the expense of user experience. Get a moto x give it try might be surprised as I was.

With the Moto X having a 720p display instead of a 1080p like the HTC One or GS4 I would hope it feels fast. It doesn't have to push all those extra pixels. But even with the higher resolution display the HTC One is smooth too. The build and speakers are a nice plus.
Still stock and loving it. If I ever get bored I will just root and flash something else.

To say the HTC One is faster and never used the X is just stupid. I am not a fan boy and love my One. I am just telling you facts. When the Note 3 comes out with the 2.1 or 2.3 quad core, it will run same as X. My Xperia Z Ultra has a 1.9 quad core and is slower than X. Moto has 2 separate processors on top of its dual core processor to handle information. It will be the sleeper hit of the year. It's first Android phone that is as fast as an iPhone.
