AiO root not fully working and update decryption fails - Sony Tablet S

Hi all,
I am using AiO 5.2 and I have the following configuration:
SGPT111CH/S
Android version 4.0.3 (release1a)
Kernel 2.6.39.4 [email protected] #1
Build number TISU0R0150110
Recovery .30<3e>
When trying to root using AiO I get both permissions check and the VpnFaker injection successful but the script fails 3 times at the terminal phase.
I've tried wiping, factory reset but nothing works.
I also have a problem with the update decryption. When I launch it I get a build error and a Status 7 and it doesn't go any further. If at the recovery menu I try to launch the install.zip file it fails too.
At this point I am completely lost, I must say that I'm also a little confused. Is my hardware/software combination a problem ? Is the script not working for this device ? I'm more than willing to try any manipulations you want
Cheers,
Serge

1) root - you have to keep on trying...
2) update decryption - you have to be rooted already! - back to 1) !

Hi condi,
Thanks for your reply. Despite many attemps I didn't manage to use version 5.2 to root the tablet, but then I tried this method :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
And use the script there and despite a few errors this worked. I then used your script to "root" again since I noticed that the script I used didn't seem to install busybox and I was concerned it wouldn't be compatible with the environment you setup.
For the update decryption, I had previously rooted the tablet with the manual root procedure and despite that it didn't work. I'll try again now that I have root on the tablet after a full wipe.
Best regards,
Serge Huber

Ok after looking at the script I noticed you were waiting for the recovery device. That's when I noticed that my recovery driver was not properly installed. Installing it solve the problem and I got shell access to the recovery !
Maybe this was also causing the issue with the rooting ? Is that possible ?
Best regards,
Serge Huber

Ok I managed to create a custom update but when I try to flash it with AiO everything seems to work fine until the reboot where it just gets stuck on the Sony logo. If I stop the tablet by pressing over 10 seconds on the power button and start it again I get back into my normal system. I also tried your custom prerooted ROM but the same thing happened. Any clues as to what is wrong ?
Cheers and again thanks for all the help,
Serge

Did you do the Rescue-Backdoor with Condi's AiO Tool
If not then you are getting a red menu and if you already did that
Then maby you could try this:
1. Connect your tab.
2. Enable usb debugging.
3. Open device manager
4. Disable SONY TABLET S
5. Start Condi's 2.7 AiO Tool
6. Choose option 1 for root.
7. Press enter so your device will reboot.
8. look in device manager list and wait until SONY TABLET S re-appears
9. If it appears then you must enable it again and wait for the AiO tool to finish.
YF,
Mahaco.
thanks for answering, no i havent done the rescue back-door, so i should try that first? and then the steps you mention?
but wait don't i need to be rooted first to do the rescue back door?
also when the exploit starts and in the middle of it a meesage in windows apperas saying that it is trying to install MTP USB device and it's unable to install it maybe that's another cause?
pardon my noobinesh but im really getting desperate here.
You were right!!!!! i was disabling the adb device listed NOT the sony tablet S listed i disabled Sony Tablet S and enabled it again in the fist reboot and that did the magic (crazy uh?) thanks so much Mahaco you're a life saver now on to another dumb question now that i'm rooted what? xD

Nice to hear you made it! You gave me a smile for that lol
Okay now try the rescue-backdoor,
Follow these steps carefully, be patient, if you have downloaded the update 3.2.1.r2
then don't install!, This will probaly change your kernal version and you will not able to gain root anymore!
So if you downloaded the update the AiO tool will go on,
if you have finished that, some values are changed and you are able to do the steps from Condi's ICS steps ( In Blue )
i must remind you even how silly it sounds, with switching you External SD from your tab to your pc
then don't forget to put it back before you continue, this wont brick your device but it can cause problems
and you have to re-do all the steps which is quite frustrating if you are stressed about bricking your device,
And last but not least, don't change your region thats not nessesary just follow the steps and you will get true
thanks i will try everything i can, i just wanted to ask what do you mean by if i downloaded the update 3.2.1 r2 you mean if i downloaded it from the internet then i can't do the ICS and rescue-back door thing?
because yes i updated the tablet via internet form an original update, thanks for the patience you have and the help; me i'm a total noob.

I've reboot the tablet. I've now SuperSU, but "Eseguire SU non presente, e SuperSU non può installarlo, questo è un problema"
Translate found on internet.. "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
I've tried again with motochopper's "run", but stops always at "Pushing exploit"..

I would ROOT and change ROM. Do I need the recovery?
If yes, how can I install recovery?
Then, how can I obtain root permits?
Please explain step by step. I do not speak English very well.
I'm pretty inexperienced with Transformer Prime.
I just tinkered with my HTC Wildfire S.
I tried to install touch recovery on my Asus Trasformers Prime TF201, with Android 4.1.1
with this video:

But I have this error on prompt:
sending 'recovery'
Okay
'writing 'recovery'
Failed (remote : (invalid state))
finished
Why? I have to do "wipe data"?

Forget this. You cannot install a custom recovery without unlocking. But you can obtain root without doing that.
From the screenshot you posted in your OP, it seems the drivers were working. You successfully copied to the phone the files needed to root but the batch file hangs at the point where it should install Superuser.apk.
First check which version of Android you are on. The motochopper root exploit only works on Jelly Bean.
If you are definitely on 4.1.1, try downloading the motochopper package again from THIS THREAD.
If you get stuck again, try asking there. It is in the TF300 section but the method is the same.
And slow down. Read more first.

Yes I've tried the unlock tool. doesn't work for me.. I'm running 4.1.1. I don't understand what is causing it not to work. Probably hardware issue. I've read that if there is a conflict with the MAC address and the device serial number in the Asus data base the unlock code won't be sent.
I bought it used so I don't know the history. I was hoping that someone found a way around the unlock tool. Thanks

Asus MeMO Pad 8 (ME181C): Recovery Guide

ASUS MeMO Pad 8 (K011) ME181C Recovery Guide
The following is a list of what we can currently do with this tablet. It assumes firmware versions with the WW prefix (WW-3.1.23.1xx).
Root Status: Obtained
Bootloader: Locked
CWM Recovery Possible: Yes (Tethered)
Custom ROMS: None
The following information is for recovering your tablet and obtaining root only. The bootloader is locked on the device at this time.
Tethered CWM recovery
This is a temporary solution to unsigned loading. The bootloader on the device is currently locked, so after rebooting, it will revert back to standard recovery. Use this to restore to a stock firmware or to install SuperSU.
Download the official firmware and extract it.
Rename UL-K011-WW-3.1.23.172-user.zip to user.zip.
Copy user.zip to the root of your SD card.
Enable USB debugging on your tablet.
Run Launcher.bat.
Type ACCEPT.
Choose option T3.
This will reboot in to the Tethered Recovery.
Choose Install Zip from external SD card.
Choose user.zip
Reboot once finished.
Bootable Image for Recovery
This file is to be used if your system will not get past the Asus or Intel logo. Boot the system using Volume Up and Power. Once the logo appears, let go of power. Once in DroidBoot, use fast boot to flash the boot and system images. This is provided in case signature verification fails on the official images.
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
This file also contains adb and fastboot. If your tablet is not detected, try the Asus drivers.
Reboot the system and use the CWM tethered recovery to reinstall the official firmware.
OTA Updates
If you’ve recovered from the official firmware on the Asus site, you’re probably sitting at version WW-3.1.23.172. Here are the OTA updates to bring your system up to the current version of WW-3.1.23.189. There are two different OTA updates available here, so the process will need to be completed twice. Update 172 to 183 and Update 183 to 189.
Boot in to recovery, press the volume keys several times and install from ADB.
Extract the RAR file and rename the files update.zip.
On your PC, open a command prompt and change to the directory containing the update file
Assuming ADB is installed on the system, type: adb sideload update.zip
Once the process completes, reboot your system and update apps as needed.
Repeat this process for any additional update files.
Recovery image
This is the default recovery for the tablet. If you get adventurous and try to flash another one, this may come in handy.
can you explain

FB Tethered Recovery Launcher
Kind of curious if this method will work with the other versions of the tablet to allow SuperSU to be installed. Anyone want to try it?
Long story short, I screwed this thing messing with the framework. For some reason, the official firmware from the Asus site was failing signature verification when trying to reinstall. Someone managed to grab a stripped system image that at least gave me a launcher and USB debugging. This beauty allowed me to get the firmware installed and everything back to normal, as well as installing SuperSU.
If you have any trouble getting the tablet to show up in Windows, the Asus distributed drivers work like a charm.

If i could find a way to install CWM on this maybe i could get somewhere but all i see is people talking about it but no video tutorials , or walkthroughs
Any Help Would be greatly appreciated
1. https://cloud.mail.ru/public/2b47381cb37c/ADB.rar - This contains adb and fastboot if you don't already have them installed. This also contains the system image that we're going to use temporarily to get this thing restored.
2. Hook it up to your computer and load up Fastboot on the tablet (Volume+ and Power while booting. Let go of power after the logo shows up).
3. Flash the System image ( fastboot flash system system.img) followed by the boot image (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
4. Reboot.
5. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95857557620392052 - Next, we're going to use a temp version of CWM-Recovery to reinstall firmware. Enable USB debugging, run launcher.bat, type "ACCEPT" and choose T3.
6. You'll auto reboot into CWM-Recovery. Grab the official firmware from the Asus site and install the zip from SD. Once complete, you'll need to reroot the device most likely. If you have a SuperSU zip, install it after you've restored the system.
You're done. This also opens us up for just about anything. Go play with your system. As long as you don't mess up your boot loader, this should save you.

Asus MeMo Pad 8 - Pro 7 Entertainment Pad
Hey guys,
I have a Asus MeMo Pad 8 - Pro 7 Entertainment Pad. Now the model is K011 and the firmware starts with LVL bla bla bla.
Technically it is the same as the 181C and I also have managed to achieve root. Any ide if I could get the WW firmware and rom working on this?
UPDATE:
Using this method gives you version 172 of the firmware. Current version is 189. So here are the OTA updates.
To use these files, Start up the system in Droidboot, Volume+ and Power, go to recovery. You'll be sitting a broken android robot screen. Press the volume keys several times. It's give you some options. We're going to install from adb.
Unrar the update file provided, rename the file to update.zip and sideload it to the tablet. Once it finishes, reboot and wait for the system to update. Rinse, lather, repeat for 183 to 189.
Files:
OTA update 172 to 183
OTA update 183 to 189
Note: This is only if the OTA updates aren't pushing to your device. If you've got them, you can skip this.
fulishone: If the intel tether works for you, you could always try it, but I have no idea if it would work or not. If you have your system backed up, you could always give it a go and restore if it fails.
I'll try to compile everything in to a more readable format later. I just want to get the info up right now. A lot of people were semi bricked either because of a root gone bad or file system problems.

Yep. That'll get you updated to the current firmware. I contacted ASUS yesterday and sadly, there are no plans on bringing Lollipop to this thing, nor are they interested in giving us an unlocked bootloader.
As for the Intel Tether, where the bootloader is locked, we can use a tethering method to access CWM recovery, but once we reboot, it reverts back to the standard recovery. This prevents us from using custom roms at this time. When it reboots, it checks signatures. The official firmware was not installing using the standard methods, so I used CWM to reinstall. That's why I included it above.
BBY builds
My guess is that this won't work with the BBY build. From what I understand no one has rooted an ME181C that has a BBY build. I also have not been able to connect the device to my PC. From reading this thread though it appears that to connect through the device drivers I need to boot into one of the recovery mode. Is that correct? I can see my sd cards okay when connected, but can't see the device through ABD.

I'm curious to know if the tethered method would allow a temporary CWM session to install SuperSU on the BBY line. I haven't seen anyone try it yet. If USB debugging is enabled, the tethered restore should try to automagically do everything for you. If you boot in to recovery, can you do a fastboot devices?
Can´t mount external sd card anymore
After using CWM tethered recovery to backup my rom, i cant mount my external sd card anymore. Any ideas?

Yeah, strange that it won't update over the air. But thanks to your assistance I am running build 189. It may just be wishful thinking, but the device does seem a bit peppier. Thank you RemmyLee!!!!
[Update] Since updating to build 189, the device is much more stable and snappier. This was definitely worth doing. I don't understand why ASUS would not be pushing this out to everyone with this device.
Just wanna say thanks to the OP. Got my tablet back from the service center and was wondering why some apps were missing. Sure enough I was on WW...179. Nice to have updates and recoveries in one place. Great work!
Thank you so much bro, I have been googling a lot trying to find a root method and just discovered that I can easily have recovery and flash supersu zip thanks to you!!
Me181c not working...
Hi guys, I was using SoftKeyZ for about 2 weeks, I wanted to set my navigation buttons to it's default, so I tried using Backup of the SoftKeyZ, but when it rebooted the tablet, I lost my navigation buttons and indeed my notification and status bar. It rebooted again automatically, and this time when it started, I got an error which says: "Unfortunately, KeyguardTestActivity haas stopped", the error prevents me from unlocking the tablet and using it, so I cannot use it at all. I don't know how to go to recovery mode on my tablet, I used the button tips but it didn't work for me. I've downloaded the official rom from asus.com . Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease, I need your help guys, you're my last chance...
should I do a complete wipe ?
Hi,
Thanks for the help in this thread.
I followed the instructions and successfully flashed the update firmware file. I was expecting for the tablet to be reset to original factory condition but found that all my apps ect were still there. I guess the user.zip is an update rather that a full ROM or should I have wiped everything first ?
I am have problems with the tablet such as Bluetooth has stopped working and wifi will only connect to very strong signal, (as in touching the router) which is why I wanted to completely wipe the device a start fresh.
f I wipe everything will the firmware file be able to restore the system fully?
Is there a complete firmware image file that can be downloaded any where ?
Thanks in advance for any advice
update : so fed up with no Bluetooth so I took the chance and did a full factory wipe and the system restored ok with the firmware file. Bluetooth problem solved, (Wifi did not, probably Hardware issue)
Thanks again
Signature failure
Thanks to your instructions, I've successfully managed to update my device to build WW-3.1.23.172, however, when trying to install 172 to 183 update I get a signature verification failure message.
Any ideas why this is happening?!

Coolpad Y82-820 Help

Hi all!
I'm new here, so please instruct me if I'm doing anything wrong.
I have a Coolpad Y82-820. It's a Chinese phone, I think.
I'm in the process of getting it rooted. ---- Was rooted before, but an update on their side (to CoolUI V24. [phone model#]. 160407) removed the root and now makes it a bit difficult to root at the moment, though I'm sure it will be done eventually. For those who have this phone, I'd suggest not to update, as this update deletes any rooting applications installed on reboot/restart.
Once rooted, I don't really mind waiting, I would like to put a Custom Rom on this phone, but not sure what options are available. I see posts about the Coolpad Note/Dazen/Shine/Rogues etc. Though nothing about this one, though spec wise it's not too far off from the others.
I'd be grateful if anyone could help with confirmations, information, on how to select a correct custom rom for this device and the steps to do. Also if there's any info on how to root this current version, even better.
Thanks!

Any help possible?
Rooting maybe? Even possibly downgrading would be an option.

Gave it a shot. Failed, as well. I've tried most of the popular rooting apps. King Root, Kingo, One click, and so on as well as a few Chinese rooting apps, as well. They've all failed.
The previous version was rooted with King Root though.

In that case you have to root your phone manually by unlocking bootloader. But as a Chinese phone don't need to unlock bootloader. But you need to have a recovery that can install flashable zip. Most of this phone have built in recovery. You can go to recovery by turning off your phone and press power+volume down button. Then see if there's any option to install zip.

There is an option there to install zip files. Though I do not know the process well of doing so. Most zips I have tried have failed. I did install GMS several days ago using the install zip method. Not certain if that was a good idea though...
If I can find a flashable zip then I wouldn't mind giving it a try. I've restored this phone countless times hoping to go back to factory firmware, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It seems to go back to the most recent updated OTA which makes it unable to root with regular apps at the moment.
Not sure what the closest phone model for this phone would be. If you have ideas I'm willing to give them a shot an report back in with any findings.

I got an error:

E : signature verification failed 安装失败
我会汉语一点儿,所以这个汉字我都明白了,如果你有问题我可以试一试告诉你。 My Chinese isn't too bad, so if there's something you don't understand let me know.
Letting you know the steps I did, just in case I did it wrong.
- Downloaded the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
- Placed it on the phone internal memory (recovery only recognizes internal)
- Powered off
- Went into recovery mode
- Then tried installing the file.
Then the mentioned error.
Should I have restored the phone to the most recent OTA, cleared cache, data, first etc?

Also failed.
I guess it's too difficult to root this new version/update. If only I could downgrade then it might be possible to root.

You can upgrade or downgrade your android version without rooting but it has to be official firmware. If you want to flash custom rom you'll need custom recovery installed and unlocked bootloader.

I think you didn't get what I said. You are already using updated android version. You can't update more if your service provider don't give anymore updates. And I also searched very hard to find official firmware for your device but unluckily your phone have very less information in web.So there's no one haven't uploaded any firmware or no discussion available for your device. You can though upgrade your device using custom rom but you need to have root and custom recovery .without root you can't install custom recovery.

Hahh... So after combing through various Chinese sites and using my limited knowledge of Chinese, I've got a ROM (previous version before there update), got the appropriate flashing software (CoolPad Download Assistant) and have successfully flashed it after disassembling the phone to get into fastboot.
Good news:
I am Rooted... again. With KingRoot.
Bad news:
The CoolPad has there update in the background. Found where it's stored and deleted. The Phone re-downloads the update.
A restart will probably update this phone making it un-rootable again.
Edit: Deleting the update file before immediately restarting gives an error in the update on restart, so I guess that's a good thing.
For now, I will just operate for now without turning the phone off. Though I do have the necessary files if I have to flash it again.
Rooting is the first requirement you mentioned... what do I need to do next? Download what? Compatible ROM's etc?

If you have no interest in custom rom and now you can root your device then you don't need to do anything right now.And you are saying new update automatically downloading, just in download setting select "do not auto download"or"update via wifi only"this will prevent from auto downloading update.

Not sure if there's any custom rom available for your phone You can somehow install custom twrp recovery but the main problem is custom rom availability. But I would suggest you to use xposed instead installing custom ROM.You can customize and control your device using xposed installer.

Installed Xposed Installer, but the Download section is empty.
I am in China currently, so a lot of things may be blocked. A VPN should fix this, I believe.
What things I should install. Xposed Installer is new to me.

A pain to root: cheap allwinner a33 tablet (Please help me!)

Hello, there!
The precious thing is a cheap 7" allwinner a33 tablet. By apps its recognized as Astar y33.
It is a 16Gb Storage Tablet with 1 gb ram. I bought ist for 42€. :cyclops:
Unluckily i only can install apps on a 1 gb internal storage and the 16gb are only for media or movable apps. It should have 1gb ram but Aida64 said it has 512 installed.
I urgently need to give root to it, to make it work -and enjoyable. I allready tried out:
-Kingoroot (also via PC)
-Kingroot
-Iroot
-Towelroot
-SuperOneClick.exe
-and various desktop based one click rooters
and all failed.
I dont know what i can try next.
I have the ADB driver, but not a certain fastboot interface driver, which i could not find in the internet at all. I have a 64 system.
Many people with similar tablets could root them with Kingo root or Iroot, but it worked not for me and my tablet must be somehow different, it also did not had any bloat or malware on it.
Please, please, give me a hint what i could try next. :silly:
These are the specifications of the tablet:

Root method for recovery
Good afternoon!
To apply the patch-and for rooting you device, it is necessary to get into Recovery.
So try to load into recovery by this way: "Settings-> Recovery and reset-> Recovery Mode".
After rebooting, you see some menu where you should select drive(sd card) on which the pre-recorded file "Update.zip"
After finishing, restart your device use first point of menu.
Now you have a root, it is necessary to update the SuperSu by selecting "OK".
P.S.
I didn't test it but find it on some good forums. Send privet massage to me if you have some questions.
Root_patch
Good evening!
I tried it out right now.
It was flashable but the su binary wont let me update. How should i update the su binary? Do i need another flashable zip?
Unluckily the root checker says that root permission is not granted yet.
Update: I flashed a current Supersu update.zip with my stock recovery mode.
It says "installtion abortet".
I dunno. I ll have to use the tablet to cut vegetables. *joke
Wow, seems like suddenly root was granted.
Last thing was: I tried to root it with Iroot via PC.
It installed some adware on the tablet but the root checker still said no.
Then Kinguser detected some malware in the notification are. I fixed this and noticed that i also could remove system apps with Kinguser.
Then i retried apps that recommed root like rashr and to my surprise - root was granted suddenly!!!
Woah! Somehow im not so sure what rooted it now, because i already tried everything five times before already and it didnt work ^^
I think, it could be this:
Kingroot has shown me before, that my device is not supported. I could kinda request compatibility, which i did.
Maybe this magic happend unnoticed and suddenly it was rooted.
Oh ****.
Afterwards i flashed some recovery.img someone told me its for TWRP for the tablet.
Since then, its in a bootloop.
How to fix this? For now, i will just wait until the battery has run empty. (That fixed beeing stuck in fastboot mode before)
THANKS!!!

Hey dude, you are awesome! I could not find anywhere this file. At last my tablet is rooted. I have been looking for firmwares for these tablets everywhere and, as they are really old and chinese crap now, all mirrors I find are down. Where did you find this zip? maybe I can find a firmware there. I need to flash it from 0 because I did a mess with adb and deleted every system app
Hello everyone
do you have an update.zip SuperSU-v2.82
