does anyone know how to open up this file to mess around with? tried all the 7zip tricks i know, trieds the unyaffs method, tried the unyaffs method in my cygwin folder too, cant do it. theres too a small a limit on the size of files poweriso and magiciso can do. im avoiding buying a full version (or stealing a key) as im sure theres a workaround

I got a problem with the way sms's are handled by HTC Sense(Its the HTC Desire).
I receive a sms from work on a daily basis, and thy contain a "/" (Slash as in "WorkPlaceName A/S") in the "from/sender" field instead of a phone number.
The problem is that the phone receives it, but discards it again because of the slash.
All sense based ROM's I've tried have all had this problem, but the non-sense froyo(2.2) ROM's are fine.
Now I want to change the behavior my self, but I don't know where to look.
I was thinking the kernel or somewhere in the ROM?
But I'm not sure.
I'll appreciate any help.

Have you tried using Handcent instead of the HTC app? Since HTC's apps are not open source, it might not be easy to modify them although you could try 'APK Manager'.

Yes i did try Handcent, but as far as I can see the problem runs deeper then that.
I tried almost all sms apps on the marked, and the sms's keeps getting deleted.
if there is any way to change it, you could most probably find it by decompiling the apks associated with the sms system.. Unfortunately I have no idea what file it would be, however you can convert the Android compiled XMLs with AXMLPrinter2.jar file, and edit the settings to get it to do what you want (though there is a better and more efficient way to do this.. I cant remember what the program is called to do it..)
You can get AXMLPrinter2.jar from here: Download
You have to have the java jre (java runtime environment), and here is the syntax:
1. rename the apk to a .zip file
2. extract the files to a folder
3. 1 by 1 go to the files you want and type (for example)
java -jar AXMLPrinter2.jar Rosie.xml > Rosie.txt
Like I said there is a better way. There is a program out there that will do the hard work on multiple files for you, however I can't remember the program name.

I can only find MMS and mail.

Ok, so here's what I'm trying to accomplish.
I can't stand having the awful standard alarms/notification sounds that are provided on most WM roms, so I went and redid one. The attached file is a Windows notification sound that I've renamed and converted to work on my topaz in place of "alarm2", hence the filename.
In short, I don't want to have to use total commander winCE every time i flash and want to change that file out (I can't overwrite it using windows explorer or file explorer cuz I can't overwrite system files). So i had an idea.
I figured I'd make a .NBH file to flash to the device after I flash my rom on there that ONLY replaces that sound file with the new one (Eventually I'd like to incorporate my custom splash screens into it but that's only a thought at this point). This is where my question/problem comes in...
I've looked around on the forums for some type of "rom builder" or .nbh creator or utility, and I've found alot of things that will convert .nb into .nbh and other features, but nothing that seems to do what I'm wanting.
I'm NOT a developer really; im more of a concept person, and if I can accomplish this without having to learn a language all the better, but I'm not sure where to start with this.

Yea, that's what I've been doing so far... It's still kind of a pain waiting for the Windows folder to load and then replacing it (It can take awhile)... I should've mentioned in the first post that it was an alternative to this that I was looking for, and either a .nbh file or possible a cab file, though I can't see how a cab file could accomplish this since it's replacing a system file while it's in use...
I am sure this would be a WTF for some people thats why I'm asking in the Q&A section.
I've noticed that .apk files can be renamed to .rar and, once decompressed, we can find files in a normal-structure in their real format (images, sounds, xmls, etc).
So I wonder, let's say, we want to modify one of the images inside the .apk. We would change it for another with the same name/size so no probs with that.
Could we decompress the .apk as a .rar, change the file, recompress it to a .rar and rename it to .apk, or we would **** permissions or something in the way?
Otherwise it needs some compiler or something I guess right? But then I wouldn't understand why it can be plainly decompressed as a .rar..

As the new ICS 4.0.3 seems to have gotten rid of the libraries required for call recording, I am willing to extract the relevant libraries from a 2.3.6 ROM, replace and give it a shot. I already have a few of them with me, for example Official DXKL3.
I need to extract the following 3 files -
system/lib/libaudiopolicy.so
system/lib/libaudioflinger.so
system/lib/libaudio.so
How can I extract these files from a ROM?
On you pc or on you phone click extract here. And will be exctracted about 6 files. Navigate to system app and find wht app you want. Copy and replace. I guess I understood right what you mean.
Get a utility program like 7Zip, IZarc, WinRar on your PC & open up the zip/tarfile & you can see the individual files & extract same.
However...
What you're attempting to do will not work. Different framework.

Thanks... Though when I use 7z, it only extracts zImage,factoryfs, etc., only a handful of files. I cannot see the individual files in the file system. Also 7z cannot extract these files anymore...
Ahh I think I was talking about already "cooked" ROM, and you guys are talking about the source? Sorry I am very new to the terminologies used. If that is the case I will check if I can find these files in the source tarball.
Try another program if 7Zip doesn't work. Try IZarc. I can see every file in the roms I have with it.

to open *.img file inside the rom download diskinternal linux reader and mount the img file inside the app.
tried and tested when i needed to copy a file from another rom.

This is a windows .bat file that is "protected" and is written to work with Android 11 and half the functions are not the same with the Android 12 ColorOS base version. If the author would have shared it with the .bat file in plain text, someone might have updated it and left his credit and not just stole his work and renamed it.

You have not dealt with well written .bat file obfuscation. I have the .bat file, but it has been run through a tool that converts the editable ASCII into expressions and different encoded base (x) that are more work to resolve than to re-write the batch file.
Challenge: Make this working executable .bat file plain ascii again.

Honestly though, why not look for your self? Ive already done it with this "tool". Not obfuscated at all. If yer having problems finding the files, run the EXE, choose one menu option, go to yer temp DIR and sort the contents by date modified, and with the FILES listed first, scroll down to where it starts listing directories. It will be the first one listed. Have fun!
\\'eird dunno why it didnt attach the file to the previous post. I should have made clear that the file you seek was located in the tmp directory thats created under the parent directory... You seemed to know what you were talking about, so I assumed little to no hand-holding would be needed...
Its worth mentioning that all of these bat2exe tools use the same (or nearly the same..) method for urm ehhh "obfuscation"; IE: upon running the app, it inflates the files to your appdata\local\temp directory. Sometimes the "app" will be password protected, and wont unpack the exe until the correct password is entered. For myself its force of habit to go check my temp dir after running any of these style tool things... And you should too!
