Rooted my phone, root seems ok, but i still cant tether - HTC Rezound

I hope it's ok to make a topic about this... Been looking around without finding any duplicate posts. I should note that i had an older rezound that i rooted just fine on gb and it tethered fine.
This new one had ics before i rooted it, and i get issues with any tethering app i use; even barnacle, which was the one i used last time. Ill post the error message i get in a subsequent post, but i think it had to do with difficulties making an ad-hoc connection or something.
Anybody face this issue?

Use this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
Go to settings in the app, set devuce profile to HTC rezound or Samsung galaxy nexus CDMA.
Change setup method to net D master, turn off encryption and scroll down and check to enable routing fix.
Delete the Verizon mobile hotspot app and the system app TetheringGuard.apk
be sure to grant superuser or supersu root access

Awesome, thank you for your post. I followed you up until the delete the verizon mobile hot spot app and the tetheringGuard.apk. What is the preferred way to do this? I have titanium backup pro (that i normally freeze my apps with, I know thats not the same) could i do it through there?

Don't worry about answering this. You can if you want. I just tried it from the point I was at and wifi tethering is now working. Thanks again man.
Amazing how the settings actually matter... I know I had tried this app already lol

Yeap its very picky with those settings, and titanium backup is exactly the app I use to uninstall those two apk's

Rooted tb unable to run wireless tether.

Hi,
My phone shown as rooted. But I'm not able to run wireless tether app. Please see attached photos and you will see what's I'm talking about.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Note. I use Rom manager to fix all permission issues and still can't run app.
Please let me know if I did anything wrong between ruu, kernel n Rom.
I'm open for suggestions...
Thanks
Also my battery is not getting any better...

First off this should be in general as this has nothing to deal with development.
Second why not use the built in htc app?

You could try using a different ROM, sometimes that's the cause of it (e.g. my phone will not tether properly using android wifi tether on bolted ROM)
You could try using barnacle (if you don't need an infrastructure hotspot)
Hope this helps.
try uninstalling and reinstalling the app and make sure super user is working correctly. I used it on Bamf and Stock rooted but after I switched to bamf and restored my apps/data i had to uninstall/reinstall then it worked fine.

Apps That Work With Temp Root

We all know that we can use titanium with the temp root. Have anyone tried any other apps that require root? We can post them up here if they work or not that way people can know what they can and can't use. Just thought it would give us something to do whiles we wait for s-off but at the same time it can be helpful to other people.
P.S. Sorry is someone posted a tried like this.....

Anyone tried msl reader? It should work on most HTC Devices...maybe this would be easier for getting the msl?
tried several
ROM MANAGER works, but needs reboot after fix permissions.
I used it to partition my SD card which you need to run ADFREE
After you use it and re-boot you need to blow out superuser because it will fc (force close)
Re-root using Jeremy's Fre3dom busybox all in one works best and fastest for me..
Thus ADFREE for Android
Obviously ROOT EXPLORER and TITANIUM
ROOT MANAGER to remove bloat but again, you need to reboot after removing bloat... Back to Jeremy
WIRELESS TETHER needs a special kernel, (netflitered) It's not a root problem.

HAPPY 4th Everyone!
I just purchased the Thrive tablet from Toshiba and am in need of wi-fi. I have gone through the temp root method, but I'm getting Root Access error. It says su: permission denied. Please help [email protected]

Barnacle has been reported as working with temp root and PDA Net Tablet works without root at least for the web browser, using your bluetooth connection. I've been using PDA Net with my Nook Color, but haven't tried Barnacle yet.
I was able to get my msl to work before Su started fc. It works.

Type Fresh
Has anyone successfully changed the system font through Type Fresh? I tried numerous times, but it keeps giving me an error message; Cannot remount /system. If this doesn't work with the temp-root, does anyone know if there is any method to change the system font with the temp-root?
thanks,

V cast media manager!

Hello peeps just wanted to know disable the V Cast Media Manager from syncying, I tried unchecking everything the list, but the next day it magically checks everything on the list again.....
I know its part of the bloat ware package and can't be unistalled, just wanted an alternate option.

Just use one of the approved temp root methods and freeze the App with Titanium Backup.

Go over to the dev section, grab scrosler's CleanTool and it becomes pretty elementary from there. Oh and Media Manager's package name is com.htc.vmm.

will this disable the nfl app?

I meant will disabling verzion media manager disable the nfl app as well? It requires several other apps to work properly and don't want it disabled.
If you just disable the vcast apps, NFL Mobile will work fine

[Q] Can I freeze or delete Entitilement from system file using Titanium back up?

I been doing some research on my own and I want to find out if I can use Titanium backup to remove the System file "Entitlement"? Is this is the same file use for Entitlement Check for Wi-Fi Tethering? On my Samsung i897 I just need to delete the similar file to enable Wi-Fi tethering to bypass validation with AT&T. I wonder if this will work the same way on Atrix. Anyone done it? Does this work? I don't want to brick my phone on something I not familiar with yet. Thanks.
prolly will break the vending.apk doing that but freeze it first and see what breaks if it does unfreeze it :screwy:

[Q] about tethering

Currently I'm using LS ics aosp mr3 and sometimes I switch to tshed 1.6 when I have a hankering for Netflix usability.
It is my understanding that root+rom=free tethering.
1. Do all roms have built in tethering without having to dl a 3rd party app?
2. For those that do (if not all) why do people use 3rd party apps anyway? Is there a benefit?
3. I notice LS doesn't seem to have built in *wired* tethering but I still have a paid 3rd party app for that from my unrooted days. So question is, is there any speed advantage to using wired tethering over wireless?

Yes, root + ROM = Free tethering
Answer to number 1: No, not all ROMs include a tethering app. You can download one from the playstore if this may be the case. Usually the tethering app included with a ROM is a third party app, but is there because the developer would suggest its use for that ROM... usually because they tested wifi tethering on their ROM with that specific app.
Answer to number 2: Third party tethering apps are in play store in case the ROM didn't include a tethering app. Also, if you use Titanium Backup to backup your working wifi tethering app and its settings, it's less of a pain to just restore that previous tethering app and its data so that you can skip setting up the app again.
Answer to number 3: I'm unaware of speed advantages of internet by tethering wired compared to wireless. Just see what works best for you.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
Ok. Number 2 comes from LS, it has built in tethering however I noticed people in the dev section under the LS thread talking about getting "wifi tether" from the market and making it use the nexus one settings and all that and I'm thinking... why bother with all that if its got its own.
Thank you sir.

You can try it if you want to and see how it works for you.
But no, I highly doubt there is a internet speed difference between wired and wireless tethering. A mobile data connection is a mobile data connection, no matter how it's shared.
I suppose some people just don't like using wires, which is understandable.
I haven't tried the built in tether yet but the cm7 tether wasn't as good at keeping a connection as WiFi tether from the market.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Btw. Without starting a new thread, or should I? What is the lightest yet fully working AOSP Gbread rom? I've been using tshed but even that seems to have a bit of unnecessary stuff packed in. Like Rom Manager for instance...I'm on 4ext now so that's useless. I'm not brave enough to go removing system apps. I don't know what's necessary.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using xda app-developers app
I think sfkcm7 is the lightest. To delete a system app all you need to do is download a root file explorer line es file explorer and give it root permissions in the settings and mount system as read/write. Then navigate to /system/app and delete the apps that you dont use like Rom manger.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Ok. Deleted rom manager from system/app, rebooted. Its still installed and not removeable. Now what? Please forgive my newbishness.
