Having to wait this long for official jellybean is pissing me off! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

When does Samsung plan to release the damn update for this phone.... Besides their decent phone they suck at supporting their phone with updates!!! I need Asus to get back in the game, one thing with them they make great products and they also support their devices in a timely manner...

1. That's how Samsung's always been
2. A brand new Note2 just came out why give people a reason to not upgrade
3. You need xanax if that's pissing you off.

that's what usually happens when they update any device..happened to my EVO, happened to my galaxy2, and, it will happen to this device...

Its usually AT&T that holds up the process, they need time to put all their junk on it

If only the note was a nexus device.

As long as there is an XDA with fantastic Devs, I will never be subject to a manufactor's schedule!!!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

That might be true - but in the Note's case it is not as they have yet to really make a release where the video and even car bluetooth work. Not to mention the lack of SPEN support and the flakiness.
But on the good side, the Padawin ICS ROM almost eliminates the need to JB at this point - just miss the tablet mode.

I read somewhere the other day that Samsung is supposed to be releasing JB to the Note 1 later this month.

Somebody said that one of the Canadian carriers was quoted saying that they are getting it at the end of this month, which logically would mean we get it soon, I guess. Not sure on the facts, we won't know till we know.

Thread going no where, Thread closed. And as always Thank you.

For once, I can actually be happy for my Canadian friends up north, for it seems that they always get the short end of the stick. I don't know how they Bear it... being left out in the Cold and all, plus some of 'em just so happen to have inherited the second worst think from the French, their language!
Seriously, I'm happy for y'all.
And this can only bode well for the U.S. as well, as it means that were mighty close...and they get to Beta test!!! On another high note, the Rogers ROM seemed to be much better than the ATT ROM was. So our off shoots might start off better.

Yeah, only Quebec speaks French. Yet our idiotic government forces it to be in our national anthem, all over our packaging, and most government phone lines you use. It is ridiculous. I cannot stand French as much as Al Bundy, and I assure you that almost all of our non Quebec population feels the same.
so nobody in canada got it? guess this was another ruse

Samsung Rolling out ICS update for International Note

Not our Note version and only in Germany, so far. But this means it will be rolling, and spilling, to everyone. It is good news; at least until there is some announcement about Jelly Bean and then we can all do this dance over again.
It sux that we wait 6-8 months for the newest OS then only get to enjoy it for a couple months before the best one rolls in.

God only knows how long it'll be before we see it on this side of the Pond. Will this at least speed up the devs getting the source files they need to make custom kernels? The various "leaks" (aka free beta testing for Samsung) have been great- each better than the last, but I believe what they are REALLY waiting on is the source so they can really tweak the kernel.
Before anyone starts flaming on me, I am NOT asking for an ETA of anything.. just wondering out loud if the source files are typically released in short order and if the release for the Int'l Note will be sufficient for us here.
I dont believe a kernel source for the int note will help us since it is different software

Yes we have basically the same physical phone and the idea is the same but the internals are completely different, even if source comes out when I post this message it will have absolutely no benefit to us for kernel help. Apks maybe but beneficial software is a negative.

Most likely if you want to get the ota update or how ever ics comes to us you have to be out of the box stock which is achievable with the stock odin file. When the update comes out you can bet there will be a cwm or odin file on here to get it on your phone the same day so its up to you.

I actually thought it meant, "Our original ICS version had at least 1 major bug that we discovered when testing in real-world situations and we aren't going to release it until it is ready for everyone."
Of course, they could have also meant, "At least one of our 'content partners' (who are paying big bucks to get their advertisement disguised as an application inserted into our release) hasn't actually sent in their app yet and we aren't going to release it until it is monefied for everyone."
LOL im so surprised people are surprised by lack of updates from telus/rogers/bell
we may get most phones before the usa, but we pay for it with our carriers holding back updates

I don't like AOSP ROMs, I was using OnlyOne HYFR B4, and it still has those AT&T things in Wi-Fi settings, and carrier name on the status bar.
Actually they were not big deal but it had some kind of bug, when I try installing an app from APK file, I can click "Cancel" but I can't click "Install".
So, I will be staying on rooted stock Gingerbread ROM with the holoNote kernel and wait for official ICS from TELUS.

Gnex is ICS out of the box.
@JamieD81, we're in the same boat with bricked N7000's. I bought another N7000 with a cracked screen just for the motherboard, since the only place to get N7000's fixed is in Europe. Plus I went thru 3 mainboards on my I9000M. I still buy Sammie's crap, but I'm being a little more careful about flashing roms now. I'm waiting until the official rom is released, and played with enough before I throw my i717 on the line this time.

Yea that's what it said. From what Samsung told me it was error on the carrier side. But did give a hint that multi view is on the way. Guess the petition did some good

If we see it, I think it'll be a positive sign that the carriers listen to the voices of users wanting (demanding) updates and similar featuresets to other models of the same handset (not stripped down) but I'd be really surprised if we ever see another official update out of AT&T for the Note.
We're under contract for two years, IMO we should get good support and reasonable updates for those two years.
I still think if carriers didn't screw with the updates so much, they could get them out faster and cheaper, but I doubt that'll happen

But what about all that content AT&T offers? How would we LIVE without it? /sarcasm
I totally agree, I wish Google enforced an osap release for every device with manufacturers so we'd have the option of vanilla or a manufacturer custom rom. Like that would ever happen lol

true but not exactly what I meant. What I mean is say Samung goes to release say the Note 3, they write an ASOP rom, and then another that has all of the touchwiz, multiple windows and other cool samsung apps. When the phone hits the carrier, it will inevitably be laced with AT&T bloatware, but we'd still have the original ASOP from sammy to choose from. Now I know in this model there's no way a company like Samsung could maintain 2 ROMs for every phone, but I think many of us would prefer to go without touchwiz for a clean experience and true customizability that Android was meant to be.
Really though, if Google went to more of a modular design instead of encoding the hardware drivers within a kernel that would be the end all of that. Yes I do understand that kernal compilation with the drivers provides a speedier system, but heck our phones are packing a dual core and it's just linux and linux is quick by nature.
Just my thoughts.
