Long battery charging time - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, just wanted to ask how long does it take to charge battery on the average. My battery charging time has increase from 2 hours to 3. 5 hours. Usually I charge with about 25% left. It still takes more than 3 hours. I have had this s3 for just 2 weeks. Thanks in advance.

Thanks very much. I installed the app and I am only getting 466ma while using wall charger. Is that acceptable?

I had the same problem after jb update now after changing the usb cable its back to normal...the problem is with the defective 4 pin usb cable bundled with few of our phones...so the only solution is buy a 5 pin usb cable of some other brand( htc , ,soney, lg..) that should solve your problem.

Ain't good enough buddy. I have this kind of problem if you have read my posts on the Philippines thread but I have sorted it out already.
Anyway go look in here, you are not alone.

Just to follow it up:
Yes I can confirm that it is a cable problem. All my test were done while running the Current widget app.
Using:
My charger and my cable = 466ma
Wife's charger and her cable = 999ma
Wife's charger and my cable =466ma
My charger and wife's cable =999ma
From this i can tell that the probkem is my cable.
But I think I fixed it. I tried blowing the pins on my cable so dust would clear.
And to my surprise, I got 999ma using my charger and my cable.
Anyway thanks to all. Hope that's the end of it.

[Q] iMac charging

Hi,
I tried searching - but couldn't find any answer about this issue.
My iMac doesn't seem to charge my S3. Whenever the USB is connected, it is showing as if it "charging" but it barely charges the phone, rather it keeps discharging.
Is anyone experiencing this aswell?
Thanks!
USB provides lower voltage than a wall charger, so depending on use it could be at a standstill, discharging at the same rate its charging. Plug into a wall for much faster charging
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks.
I thought that it might be it, but the iMac sure charges the iPad and iPhone 4s easily.
Might be the 40-whatever pin charger the i-stuffs use is parallel charging different cells of the battery which wouldn't happen with android (most batts have 4 pins, 2 for temp and 2 for use, while the microusb has 5 pins, 2 for power, 2 for data, and one isn't connected I believe). Idk BC I don't like apple lol

you can flash custom kernel and change the default(475mA) USB charge to 800mA, tested and charge fast on USB mode

Rooting to fast charge from a laptop? I'd keep my warranty jk lol but seriously stick the damn thing into a wall lol
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Note that you can badly damage computer motherboards if they do not provide the necessary power if you decide to configure the phone to use >500mA charging.
Most computer manufacturers have got rid of current limiters, so if the hardware cannot handle over 50%overload the weakest part will blow - which might well be a power conductor within the layers of the board, potentially damaging other components too.
Best case your usb plug just dies.
Even if the iMac support fastcharge, you'll always have to remember to lower it again before plugging it into other computers.

Ridiculously slow charging?

My charging cable hasn't really been working well and I just noticed it only has four golden colored prongs inside of it. Can anyone confirm this isn't correct before I order a new one?
Edit yea its not the cable this thing is just barely charging.

mine does the same thing from time to time. if its charging slow unplug it and plug back in, then make sure the red light is on. i have noticed sometimes when i get a email or text and the charging indicator goes off(red light), it seems to only be trickle charging per say.

I don't think I have ever used the charger & usb cable that came with my Note 2. I have never had any issues with it charging. In fact, I am currently using a Motorola wall unit with a no name cable upstairs, & a cheap wall unit from Walmart & the cable from an Acer tablet. Both charge fine.
I'm using OEM charger and cable I installed an app called galaxy charging current and its showing a ridiculous fluctuation. I'm thinking it may be a faulty charger. It charges much faster on my car charger.

[SOLVED] Galaxy S3 Not Charging At All!! 15% in 3 hours!

It's been a few months I'm using the GS3. Everything was working fine.
Suddenly, yesterday, this fantastic quad-core beast refused to charge! I made so many attempts but all in vain :crying: :
Tried a different charger.
Tried a different USB Cable.
Tried charging it via PC/Laptop.
Tried removing the battery, cooling everything down and then charging again.
Blew inside the USB port.
Rebooted several times.
Done a factory reset (I know it wasn't a thing to be done.. but... ).
What is the problem?! I've never dropped it or something like that! It's too important for me to have a phone!
Won't send it to Samsung ever. I think people at XDA have more brains.
The only connection to the internet at my home is my S3's GPRS. Wait a minute... if S3 isn't charging how am I posting and starting this thread?
It charges. ONLY 15% in 3 hours when it's Switched OFF and it's charged using Laptop/PC ONLY.
If I try to charge it using wall charger, it never charges! It never charged even before. Whenever my S3 was completely out of battery, I HAD TO use the PC ONLY to charge. It won't ever charge using a wall charger. I mean after it's charged a little bit after using the PC, I could always use the wall charger but FIRST, ONLY PC.
Now, When it charges about 15%, then, today, it DOESN'T CHARGE AT ALL. It means if you Switch it ON, boom! You won't ever be able to charge, no matter if you're using it, no matter if it's connected to a wall/PC as the charger, it always keeps on only "draining". To charge I HAVE TO switch it OFF.
PLEASE HELP! I CAN'T LIVE LIKE THIS!
Note: Phone isn't rooted.
SOLUTION WITH ROOT : Flash Boeffla Kernel. DONE! The problem is Galaxy S3's Stock Kernel! The phone charges at a very good speed!
SOLUTION WITHOUT ROOT : Buy the Capdase USB cable (HCBB00-SM01) from or Amazon or eBay.
We don't have locked boot loaders. So if you do, you're in the wrong forum. Only the Verizon S3 has locked boot loaders.

There are another hundred identical threads, likely causes are faulty charger, lead or charging circuit inside phone. If you are on custom rom/kernel then flash back to stock.
Did you try the app charging current? It shows how many mA are coming through

Judged on your previous posts you need to find out what phone you actually have .
Suggest you flash a stock rom and test .

Here are the Maximum Values in the Galaxy Charging Current app-
Samsung Charger+HTC Wire=100
Sony Charger+HTC Wire=100
Samsung Charger+Samsung Wire=200
Sony Charger+Samsung Wire=200
Samsung Charger+Sony Wire=900
Sony Charger+Sony Wire=1000
The problem is, the Sony wire I've used isn't mine. So I can't keep that with me. I have the Samsung Charger, HTC & Samsung Wires.
Do you recommend to buy a new wire? It'd be great if you'd suggest me which one

Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Finally I solved it!
The problem with all the Galaxy S3's is the USB WIRE. Samsung's data cables are 30AWG wires (the lower the number, the better speed). Our phones need at least 26AWG wires to charge who good speeds. Now, the more thin is the wire, the more is it's resistance. If you notice the difference between Samsung and Sony Ericsson wires, the Sony ones are really fat in front of Samsung. I used the Galaxy Charging Current Lite app to test various USB Wires and Sony Ericsson's wire was the best giving the Max value of 1000 (Samsung gave 500). But Sony doesn't sell wires, we need to buy a Car Charger/Adapter with it and pay a big amount... Again a problem!
Solution: I bought a wire from www.stuffcool.com (Capdase USB cable (HCBB00-SM01) and I was shocked to see my mobile always around 80-90% charged! I recommend everyone to buy USB Wires for their phones from www.stuffcool.com and charge their mobile faster!!! They're thick wires, they don't break and they don't eat up the current! Samsung USB Wire users will definitely understand the difference in those wires
I bought it from stuffcool.com , however, it's available on eBay and Amazon too.

Unfortunatly, that is apparently not my problem, though the symptoms are the same. My girlfriend's SGS 3 will not charge, despite showing a charge indicator on the battery symbol.
Chargers are good, as my sgs 3 shows 460 max when on my laptop, and 900 on wall charger using the Galaxy Charging Current Lite app. (rooted, Sentinel ROM) My girlfriend's SGS 3 is showing 0 using same app, USB cord and wall charger. Laptop and wall charger show the same: 0. Ideas?
She's stock ICS, unrooted. Is this a software or hardware issue?

I am having the same issue. It shows a charging icon but the battery continues to drain. I downloaded the Galaxy Charging Current Lite application and it doesn't show anything.
Does anyone know if this is a component that can be fixed?
I bricked my phone, sent it in... got it back and now it doesn't charge. I have external batteries, so I'm not totally screwed but, I used to be to able to download torrents all night and the phone would charge, not the case anymore. Not blaming it on the bricking or the dudes that fixed it for me, it's all in the cables. I have 3 cables, all worked great before, now none of them work, except the samsung cable, but still won't charge while tethering, weakness, it's the cables... there's not an app out there that will help you

(How to) charge your note 2 faster..

Hello friends today I will tell you how u can charge your note 2 very fast.. As we all know note 2 takes quite a long time to charge.. So I will tell u a simple trick to charge your note 2 faster than ever...
What u have to do just replace your Samsung's data cable to nokia's data cable.. now many people will ask me what's the difference in those data cable.. guyzz there is a big logic behind this..
In samsung's data cable there are just 4pins in pin.. But in nokia's or in lg's data cable there are 5pins in pin that's why they charge very fast.. Take a look on picture I have lg's data cable and it have 5pins in pin..
So guyzz just use nokia's or lg's data cable to charge your note 2 very fast.. believe me guyz it really works..
Hit thanks if I helped you...

It's true. I am using the cable from my old HTC phone and it takes 2-2.5 hours to charge the phone. It will take 5-6 hours if Samsung cable is used.
how does having 5 pins help in charging faster ?
ultimately on the other end there are only 4 pins right ?

Download "Galaxy Charging current" from the play store and you should get 1800 mA as your max and current if it's lower than that then you should replace your cable with a note 2 original cable just like what happened to me suddenly my note 2 needed 8 hours to charge now it's back to 2 hour \o/

i though best is using the galaxy current charging app to see the power current charging rate between 1600-1800 ?
does this LG 5 pin cable charging rate between 1600~1800mAh ?
Wont the charging tweaks fill in the hypothetical gap of both the pins in the cable? I mean im sure you can simply adjust the kernel to push out a higher current, or will the higher current be limited by the Samsung cable?
Actually yes! Just use persues kernel. You can reduce input voltage to as low as 0.3amp and as high as 2.1 amp. N2 Charges by default at 1.8amp.

As per my point of view its all misconceptions ......as long as ur phone is getting more than 1600 mamp current it will fast charge with any of the cables ...and if ur getting less than that it will charge slow ...so instead keep an eye on that ...as soon as it starts reducing check the cable .....

I agree to Manish.. check first in galaxy chaging current app what you are getting. Currently im using a 3 in 1 usb cable and Im getting 1800mah using the 2.1amp charger and 1200 if I connected it to the usb port of my laptop.

Check the current reaching your device using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abmantis.galaxychargingcurrent.free
If the charging port works as it should, you suppose to see value of 900-1100 in the 'avg' row (assuming you're using original 1A charger and cable), otherwise it should be much lower.
