has anyone flashed the radio from the ATT Skyrocket jelly bean leak? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I'm a little scared to be the Guinea pig, wondering if anyone has tried it. I'm wondering if it would help battery life and signal issues with cm10.

Damn no brave souls? My phone has a warranty so maybe I'll risk it.

The RIL libraries are likely not compatible with your non-JB Rom, but you should still have the ICS RIL's on board anyway...unless you are running a JB variant build.
That said, you might see drop outs on service occasionally........but it should'nt damage anything.....g

I'm running cm10 so it is jelly bean.

Give it a go.......g

I wouldn't even knowingly attempt another phone's ROM at all.

So I flashed it and it booted up fine and everything worked. Then I got a sleep of death. I rebooted it and it would lock up on the lock screen. I rebooted several times with the same results. I had to reflash the old modem to get it to stop locking up. Oh well was worth a shot.

Its very common to use other modems. All the matters is that the modem chipset is the same.

It comes as an option with the CvD-Nibbles ROM (in the AROMA package installer under custom)
I flashed it without a problem, worked great for the 5 hours before I flashed the king kangers one .12 kernel, then it was unrecognized. (Probably could've reflashed it but haven't had the time yet as this was last night)

ROM: CvD-Nibbles
Kernel: King Kangers One .12
Radio: UCLI3
Recovery: twrp2

I've never heard of that ROM and your signature says you have a Galaxy S 2 Skyrocket. We're talking about the ATT Galaxy Note.

I have to apologize I'm still getting used to the xda app and its search function. Sorry for the confusion.

I have no idea where to start for rooting/flashing roms

My i777 is coming in the mail tomorrow. I'm very excited, its my first Android. I've been researching custom firmware and stuff like that for about a month around the web. I just have no idea where to start. I believe my phone still has some form of 2.3 on it, but it could be the current 4.0.4 ICS.
From what I understand, I update the drivers on my computer with Kies, download Odin to root the device and then what? Or superoneclick? I'm interested in CM10 but I know the bugs are still being worked out. I need my camera, MMS, bluetooth, 3g data, at&t radios, mhl, Touchwiz toggles, all the functionality with no soft keys at the bottom. JB would be great if its possible. Other wise I might as well just update the phone to stock ICS and root it for other stuff I want like sixaxis and over/underclocking apps.
There is a reason we have stickies
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
There's things like KK 2.3.6, is that custom GB firmware? I know there is lots of information but no where to start.
pretty sure it would make more sense once you actually have the device in hand....seems pointless to create a new thread asking how to get started when you dont even have the device yet.
use it for at least a day or 2 before you start messing with custom ANYTHING
hell, dont even root it right away. just use it as is to get a feel for it, and verify there is nothing wrong with the hardware....if you just jump in and flash custom firmware, how will you ever know if an issue was hardware or firmware related?
Interesting, good point Pirateghost. I was wanting to put custom stuff on there while I had access to a computer this weekend. Might as well wait though. I'll have a laptop to mess with everything at my own pace by Black Friday anyway.
If it is still running GB, should I upgrade it to ICS, or would that hinder the root process when I want to do that?

The second part of your reply is absolutely spot on.
The first part i dont agree with a 100%.
I too plan to purchase the i777 model in the not too distant future, and its always a good thing to start reading early. Just like getting a feel of the stock rom/hardware is essential.. its always a good thing to read up well in advance. By the time a person is analyzing the h/w.. he is in a position to relate with other user's experiences.
I too was reading up all the stickies and really did got stuck up with the KK6 2.3.6 thing mentioned right at the start and no clue/legend being mentioned as to what it was. I googled a lot and many results had the same thing.. simply started using the terms w.o any hints.
It does gets confusing tbh you know
The thing is, I understand and know the stock hardware and firmware very well already. I have been using my girlfriend's GS2 from Sprint, the "Epic 4g Touch" since she got it in May. I've used it with GB and then ICS in August (I had to tell her to stop ignoring the notification, the update was a good thing!), but it will be good to evaluate the item to fully determine that everything is good with it.
It seems like in your first post, you steered yourself away from CM10, but everything you listed works except mhl I believe. And if you really want that, you will be able to dualboot into shostock once Siyah kernel gets updated.

So CM10 is good for everything except mhl...what about stock ics from kies and rooting it after that. Is that simple to do?
I'm interested in project butter and all but even ics would be great as long as its not a CPU hog and laggy. I know it runs fine on the epic 4g touch.

Can't update from 4.1.2 to 4.2

I finally managed to upgrade my wife's Samsung Vibrant to 4.1.2 today. I used the Devil3 kernel/rom with the Glitch Kernel method. Now anytime I try to update to a 4.2 rom I get a status 7 in CWM and a status 0 when trying with glitch. I have tried updating to a 4.2 kernel (sephamore) but am having no luck. Could someone please help me?
I would like to install the Pacman 4.2.2 rom.
You might want to try odining back to stock and then just flashing directly to PAC man. And what ICS did you flash?

It's probably the Devil's or Glitch kernel, I had that problem.

Flashing straight up to 4.2 from stock? I wouldn't suggest this, personally. I'd suggest you Odin to stock, jump up to cm7 then up to ics before jumping to jb. If you're going to mess with your phone, with a voided contact, you might as well do it correctly. Shortcuts tend to end in fast bricks.

It's not that you cannot do it, but rather it's definitely not recommended. Just like dirty flashing, as opposed to doing a clean install. You can dirty flash, but you're more likely to run into problems in the long run, and potentially brick your phone.

Note 2 newb just unlocked

Hi guys, I am very new to the Note 2. I just unlocked and rooted the latest ota using Casual. Thanks to Adam Outler and everyone else involved. So my question is which ROMs are compatible with this ota? Basic question I'm sure. I came from the Razr and the kernel had to match so I assume its the same here? Anyone willing to shed some light on this for me would be greatly appreciated.
Sent from my GT-P3100 using xda app-developers app
Any rom you want as long as it is in the VZW Note 2 threads can be flashed ours arent locked down by what update we are on because our bootloader is unlocked where it isnt on Moto phones. AOSP roms require AOSP kernels as TW roms require TW kernels. The roms come with kernels though so that isnt something tk worry about unless you I want to.
The only thing to remember is if you go to a 4.2 rom and want t I go back to 4.1 you have to flash a downgrade zip so your SD card doesnt become corrupted. You can find the downgrade zip in the Official CM 10.1 thread in the OP.
Check out Droidstyles guide in Android Development, its a sticky, it explains quite a bit and would ne helpful to you I think.

Thanks for the info. Exactly the answers and info I was looking for. I just flashed CleanROM and went through the flashing process. When it got to the end and said finish to reboot it just turned off and wouldnt turn back on. Couldn't get to recovery or download mode. I had to pull the battery and then turn it on. It went straight to the new ROM though without a hitch. Is that a normal part of the flashing procedure on the N2? The battery pull I mean, or did I miss something?

Thats not a normal thing to happen, but it does happen occasionally. As long as it boots up after the battery pull I wouldnt be too worried by it. I have had it happen to me before and after the battery pull I experienced no issues whatsoever.

CleanROM's good. It was the first ROM I flashed when I got my Note II too.
Eventually though, you may want to switch to something more feature-rich like Jelly Beans, which is what I'm rocking now. The features it adds are pretty awesome and you get full touchwiz functionality (S-Pen and the like) with the look of AOSP.
DL'ing Jelly Beans now. Gotta make a new TiBu before flashing though. Will give it a go shortly. My wife fusses at me sometimes cause on my old phone (Razr) and on this one I am always flashing different ROMs. She especially hates it when she calls and my phone goes directly to voicemail cause I am in recovery flashing a ROM or kernel.

Hi all, I'm feeling like a n00b on the Note too, and really appreciate the help all of you seem to be willing to share with each other. I'm not new to modding phones, recently I've been through an S3, DNA, RAZR HD and M, and even another Note 2. I made the mistake of swapping the Note 2 for an iPhone 5, and regretted it about thirty seconds later. Now that's my wife's phone, and due to the grace of another (local) xda member, I'm back rockin' the Note 2. This time around in looking forward to getting into some serious flashing and tweaking to get the most from the hardware. I've decided this is Verizon's best phone at the moment, with everything I need.
Don't worry, you're not alone in having a wife who gets annoyed at flashing and tweaking. Happens to me all the time, but I use the excuse it's one of the few hobbies that I have which doesn't involve the rest of the family and I need a bit of alone time. It kind of works as an excuse until the point where I need to use it again.
I'm looking forward to being part of this community and wanted to say hello.

Best of luck!

I doubt it, its pretty straightforward. Flash the radio in recovery. Done.
You might try reflashing the ROM, dirty flash it over itself. Of course make a nandroid first.

I had that happen with the CleanROM ACE 4.9 variant. I wasn't able to get a GPS lock either. Dirty flashing the ROM sorted my data connectivity, but not the GPS. I'm on something different now, but thought I'd share that much.

4.0 is probably better on everything, cause its older, better battery too. But not as many bells and whistles. A lot of the lag can be eliminated just by disabling ripple effect on lock screen. The remaining with Trickster. I know you don't like to read too much, but if you went to p355 - 378 in Padawan thread, all lag issues (for most) disappeared. My phone never ran better. I've gotten comfortable with bells and whistles though. Stock is very bland for me now.

Sounds like modem issue. Try flashing a separate modem on top of. Don't know what other 2 ROMs you flashed? Not sure what the effect would be, but Padawan doesn't need gapps.
But I would check modem
