[Q] How easy it is it to enable expanded desktop on CM10 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I know there are various AOKP ROMs that have enabled Expanded Desktop functionality... But I want to use it in standard CM10.
What tweaks have to be made to the rom to do this?

"Expanded Desktop" is available normally on Tablets and some other devices, it's normally an option available in the "Power Menu".
It appears in "Paranoid Android" ROM, and i know it is contained in standard CM10 builds.
Just figuring out how to enable, the option in the Power Menu..
I know in the CM10 forum people just say "Aaaah you dont need it"
but yes i WANT it..
and if it is a simple tweak as the code is already in there then i am happy to do this myself

i just like it, adds a little bit more screen real estate to apps, Apex Launcher can only hide the status bar whilst you are in the launcher.
I know people say "oh it's only good for Nexus Owners" but is there any reason why i cant? Paranoid Android has it so why cant i?
Maybe i'll ask the question in the Paranoid Android Thread

You could try tasker it'll be able to hide the status bar in specific apps and I'm sure cm10 has it as its options double check the options

there is no option in CM10.. but i think the option switched off .. and is only selectable if you have a phone with no hardware keys, cant ask in the Paranoid Android thread as it is temporarily closed

Why no buttons on pulldown screen?

I used to have a Galaxy S on t-mobile and loved it. Recently picked up the razr and the one thing that is really annoying is that the notification bar "swipe down menu" from the top of the screen has no buttons to turn gps on/off, etc.
Is there any way to get these buttons on here?
No idea why in the hell they would omit that feature....

It's actually a TouchWiz (Samsung's Android skin) feature that Cyanogenmod incorporated. Bottom line: not stock Android, and not on Motorola's skin.
cm? Cyanogyn mod?
Now that i think of it i did have a custom rom flashed on there but i know it wasnt cyanogyn, it was one of the stock ones with voodoo on it so it would run faster.

Galaxy S has the options in the pulldown by default; most ROMs will incorporate it, though, since it's a nice feature. It's not something in stock Android, though.
Best thing for now is the power control widget till our phones can get bootloader unlocked and development for roms can begin. I too had that previous. I just use thd widget for now
Available in the Market as always for example via Widgetsoid.
How many times will I have to say that for people to understan, unbelievable.

Widgetsoid seems like a great app with a lot of potential and nice customization features, but on the Razr you can't toggle directly from the notification bar with it. Instead clicking on the toggle icon will popup another window to toggle the setting on or off. That and I haven't been able to change the colors of the toggles in the dropdown so that it's readable.
Notification toggle is the closest I've found. Each toggle takes up a line but you can actually turn the item on or off straight from the dropdown.

100% full screen tablet mode ?

does anyone know of a way to run the note in tablet mode in ICS 4.0.4 so all my apps display in 100% full screen?
Not sure if there's a way to do it in system. I know for sure you can do it with most home screen replacements-launchers.

oh, like which?
I use APex launcher and it has an option to hide the status bar. Nova has it too.
Iam currently using sslauncher.

Apex settings.
Cosmo D from outer space!
I came to rock the human race!
You have to freeze it. The only free option I have ever seen is an app called "AntTek App Manager". Now when you freeze the statusbar it will keep popping up a FC but to fix this freeze the status bar and after it disappears defrost it and it should still stay hidden til you reboot.
Another vote fo using Apex launcher -- it has the option to autohide the status bar in phone mode (dpi of 214,or higher) .
Now, Tablet Mode (dpi of 213, or lower) is a different story. For that, you'll have to get with the ROM developer to implement a hide button. (Hybrid ROM has this).
I guess what I really want is to run the note in tablet mode so it is 100% full screen (I dont need that black bar at the top of the screen that displays the clock, battery life, cell reception/bars, etc)

Which ROM?
OnlyOne ICS ROM Beta 4*HYFR*for AT&T*Galaxy Note*...
Hopefully there is a mod like this that could preserve the quickpanel
You should go with CM9, AOKP, or The Hybrid if you're looking for a functional tablet mode. OnlyOne isn't gonna cut it...
Will any of those preserve the quickpanel and are those ICS?

Yes, they're all ICS, and I *think* the 15toggle mod works on Hybrid...maybe. I'm not sure whether or not there is a version of it for the others.
Warning: you will lose S-pen functionality with CM9 and AOKP, but not Hybrid.
I suggest you go read as much of the Hybrid's thread as possible. It's slightly more complex than what you may be used to.
Good luck!

Does SSlauncher work in tablet mode? I've toyed with it a little before on my evo, but haven't tried it on the note yet.
Yes Sir, it sure does.
aokp has a setting for this i used it all the time on our rom,
paranoid has it aswell as im using it on that one aswell.
just search settings when you use roms you find all sorts of things not mentioned

[Q] Is there an app or mod to toggle navbar in latest CM10 jelly bean builds

EDIT: Screwed subj: Is there an app or mod to toggle navbar in latest CM10 jelly bean builds that don't have such option?
Hi, the question is in subj. Sorry if there is an answer to this somewhere on forums, but I googled and searched the forums and found nothing of help. Everything I found was intended for ICS and other devices and didn't work on my NT with CM10.
So I know there is a bunch of roms (AOKP for example) that have the built-in option to hide/show navigation bar and/or status bar through power button menu. It is very useful. But what if I use a rom without such option, is there a way to get similar option using some mod or apk (that will work on any CM10)?
When searched google & forums I surprisingly didn't find much complaints about navbar in jellybean phone interface but I personally think it always must have an option to be hidden because in games and some apps it breaks aspect ratio and eats precious screen space.
Im using latest build of CM10 PURE AOSP 4.1.2 JBV03-Hashcode right now. I want to continue using this rom but hiding navbar is so much important to me. (Maybe I missed an option right here? But I can't ask devs 'cause of 10-posts restrictment, so asking here.)
In the Settings under System>Power Menu Make sure that "Expanded Desktop" is checked. Once that's enabled, when you long press the power button, you'll see the option "Expanded Desktop". This will hide/show the nav bar.
EDIT: I know this to work on the CM10 PURE AOSP ROMs, I don't know about the other CM10 ROMs currently circulating.

Thank you for answer! But for some reason I didn't have such option in System>Power Menu on 2012-11-15 build. So I flashed newest one just in case (2012-11-18) as a 100% clear install wiping everything, but "Expanded Desktop" is just not there. I'm puzzled. Are you sure CM10 PURE AOSP has it?
I have only:
Reboot menu
Screenshot
Profile switcher
Airplane mode
Sound panel
My bad, this is a function of the Tablet UI patch found here from this thread. It is not specific to this ROM. When applying the patch you MUST clear the cache and Dalvik cache, I've found that not doing so often causes headache.

I see. Anyway thank you for pointing me in that direction. I've installed Tablet UI patch and actually love it. But would you be so kind to answer a bit unrelated question: after installing Tablet UI there is an odd problem - USB storage prompt wouldn't pop up when I connect USB cable to the device so I can't access any storage. Maybe someone knows how to fix this? Is it because the Storage menu FCs?
Well, first make sure "Android Debugging" is enabled. If that doesn't remedy the issue then I would have to assume that it is related to the Storage FC in some way. I don't use USB Mass Storage to transfer files to my NT so I haven't noticed if mine does this or not. I can't try it at the moment as I need to charge my NT but when I have the chance I'll see if I have the same problem.
Since I was looking for the same thing how to enable toggle navbar in powermenu on my cm10 phone, I found out what you have to do.
I would take a wild guess that you have to do pretty much the same thing as did I with my Nexus S.
Short story:
You need to decompile your Settings.apk, with apktool.
In the decompiled files, navigate to settings/res/values/bools.xml.
Open the file bools.xml with Notepad++ and edit the following line from this:
<bool name="config_show_expandedDesktop">false</bool>
to this
<bool name="config_show_expandedDesktop">true</bool>
Save the file. Recompile the files. Take recompiled resources.arsc and replace the one in your Settings.apk, flash the new Settings.apk.
Now if you go to Settings/System/Power Menu you will see the option to choose Expanded desktop.
CM10 has this feature built in, but its not enabled for all devices.
Hope this helps, if you have any questions PM me since I doubt I will visit Nook forums in the foreseeable future. :victory:

[Q] Edit 'recommend apps' on 4.1.2?

I have recently upgraded to 4.1.2 ELLA stock. I am using a rooted 9300 on stock kernel.
Is there a hack that will give me the ability to edit the apps that are available in the bottom shortcuts on the new screen that appears when headphones are inserted? I don't use any of the stock apps, but they are all that appear!
Yes there is.

LOL - clever clogs. But that doesn't work. That's designed for editing the shortcuts that appear on the notification drop down. I want to edit the ones that appear at the bottom of the main screen. Try to long press on those and you get a pop up saying they can't be edited. Is there a mod for that?
I don't use TW so I don't know what you're talking about.
Use a custom launcher like Nova
I have the same problem.
I don't know how to change them.
But if anyone finds the answer, I am interested too.

[MOD][XPOSED]CyanogenMod PieControlls Mod

So I really liked the CyanogenMod PieControlls, but the color was allways the same.
So I made this mod :
It enables PieControls on devices without Softkeys:
->Enable Softkeys->Goto System Settings and activate the expanded desktop -> select the option to show the statusbar in expanded desktop -> configure PieControls
this is a nice tutorial : -> http://www.geordienorman.com/pie-control-cyanogenmod/
It makes PieControls fully themable:
You can theme every part of PieControlls.
This Mod works on any device with Cm 10.1 or Cm 10.2.
Download it here
screenshots are attached
Wow, that's awesome:laugh:Thanks a lot:good:
If anybody is experiencing download issus like page not found, just be patient google play is still processing it.
Thanks a lot
What happens with the menu key? Does it show up in the pie controls if an app requires the menu button (like in the Nexus 4 and the Galaxy Nexus and other phones that use touch-based navigational buttons)?
That's the only reason I don't use pie controls in general (yeah, I know, silly reason )

But on cm 10.2 you can go into expanded desktop and you wont see the softkeys.
On Cm 10.1 you have to disable the softkeys after configuring pie.

Basically, on Android, the menu button is supposed to be within the app itself. If it's not, the Nexus phones (or devices with a navigation button bar) show a menu key (the three vertical dots).
With your module, do we see those three dots if an app requires it, or not?
IIRC, CM10 always showed the three menu buttons so it kinda became a little redundant.

I'm running this on CM 10.2 for the Atrix HD. Everything is working great except for one thing. I have the "Long press to kill app" option enabled for my Back button. Whenever I long press the button, it is turning blue. I don't see an option to to change this color. Am I missing something?
