About Galaxy S 3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody.
I used to own a Sony Xperia P, too bad it got bricked and I'm looking forward on getting a Galaxy S3 i9300.
Can anyone please tell me about it's support. I mean let's say I want to install CM ROMS, is it widely supported on by the community?
On Xperia P forum we only had CM9 and CM10 is almost a dream to have, if any one could give me a clue about it I really appreciate it
So far I'm interested in building a custom kernel based on Samsung source code (if I got this device)
I'm not into Rom development, was just wondering about CM support for this device in-case I wanted to change the installed ROM.
I appreciate any hint provided
Best Regards.

You could try the search function You Will find that the s3 development community is very vivid. Top of the line development/modding/tweaking and support. You have cm9, cm10 plus lots of different kang projects with great og support

I searched the forum but maybe I wasn't clear enough in my first post.
I don't really care about themes, mods and stuff. I prefer only installing CM roms for a change, I found that CM10 reached Stable, and CM10.1 is in the works from this website: http://teamhacksung.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
Just wanted to be sure from users who already on this device just to be sure

But how come I'm finding i9305 cheaper than i9300 ?! shouldn't it be the opposite?

I guess I will stick with I9300 if I'm able to get it.

For sure I will stick around with developing for Xperia phones

[Q] few questions

hey ppl.. new to the s3 i9300 uk
ok so im rooted etc.. played with a few roms... and found this.
http://www.trickytweaks.com/update-...-jelly-bean-xxdlib-custom-insertcoin-rom.html
so it says in there i must have xxdlib 4.1.1 to install.. so then i found this.
http://www.trickytweaks.com/update-...-jelly-bean-xxdlib-custom-insertcoin-rom.html
its just worried me that at the end of the article it mentions only for nexus models... what does that mean?...
i thought a nexus was a nexus and s3 i9300 was (you get what im sayin) lol
also im just looking for roms that are jelly bean with google and motion..
are there any...
I think the "only for Nexus" thing might be a mistake, the author might have copied that from some other page he made about a Nexus and forgot to change Nexus to i9300... But am not sure about that.
The main thing is first you need to be sure your phone is an i9300 and no kind of variant. Check that by going to settings and then to about device.
EDIT: Is it a T-Mobile SGS III you have? I think that particular phone has its own forums, as they are different from i9300 somehow.
If it is an i9300 you are holding, the ROMs in the Development section of these i9300 forums are all OK for you to try, including the InsertCoin that you will find there. If you flash i9300 ROMs on something other than an i9300, you are in big trouble.
I also think it's a good idea in general to download ROMs via their respective XDA threads and not via random articles on other webpages.

In the ROM description threads you can usually find info about what's included in the ROM. Not sure what you mean by "with google", but the motion thing is in many ROMs, including the JB CheckRom 5.5 that I'm using myself. I just turn all motion off because I hate it, but I know it is in the ROM for sure.

[Q] Xiaomi Mi2

Hey Guys,
I'm considering buying the Xiaomi Mi2 phone but I couldn't find anywhere else on any details whether it can be rooted and if there are any developers for it (considering my difficulty in finding in it, i have a feeling there is little developer support).
Hoping to use CM10 or any stock jellybean roms and the specs of the phone are quite impressive considering it's incredibly cheap price tag.
Thank You.
xiaomi makes a stock jb rom for mi2 so you can use that. Here in xda you wont see much development for this phone since kernel sources are not open source. I highly doubt that anytime soon we will see any CM roms for this phone. The stable roms are not rooted but if you flash the "development" roms or something from miuiandroid or any other unofficial rom it will have root access.
There is already a thread related to your device.

[Q] Moving from i9100 to i9100G (chinese)..common doubts

HI guys,
Due to an undesired dead of my previous i9100, i'm probably switching to a i9100G, which I'll get borrowed from a friend for a few months. It's 100% the chinese model.
After a bit of checking, I've found that it's not an Exynos model. Does this mean i9100G gets official full CM10.1 support? TI chipsets have all the source available, right?
If I want to install ROMs, any CWM ROM for i9100G will work, right? The ones I can't flash will be official samsung roms for i9100G international, right?
Thank you!

YES, its TI-Omap processor on that I9100G for u.And all Custom rom's meant for I9100G will wrk on it
This is great news! I couldn't find the official thread for CM10.1 for the i9100g, could you point it for me? I'm mostly interested in a JB vanilla experience, maybe with a modification to allow the camera to store pics in the SD and also allow mass storage, but that would be it. Oh, and stability...I had so many crashes with my i9100 on CM10.1, and camera/3D issues. Do you have any recommendation?
Thanks a lot!
EDIT: Huh, nevermind, now I found the CM10.1 thread. Still, any good vanilla recommendation besides CM10.1?
EDIT2: Another question better to ask to wiser people: I'm going to receive this 9100g running android stock 2.3.x chinese version, how could I change to international JB bootloader?

Thanks for the info! HOwever my concern isn't about finding an international JB ROM. I think there needs to be some kind of previous flash in order to make it work on a 9100G chinese version. Is this correct?
Thank you!

previous flash of what
Not sure, that's my concern. I believe you can't just odin your way to international stock JB from a chinese stock ROM, you'll need a way to turn your 9100G international (I guess it's related with some kind of tag string in the bootloader or similar).

[Q] Will Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 get Android L?

Hi guys i guess most of you have seen android l, but i had a question that will s2 gt-i9100 get android l rom? I know that s2 wont get an official release as they stopped it at 4.1.2 but will we get android l rom by cyanogenmod because galaxy s2 already got 4.4.4 roms

yay!
It will come in some shape, but it may not be a perfect experience, as most devs rightfuly gave up on S2 due to all the crap (not) coming from Samsun.

I dont think devs completely gave up on s2 because since s2 stopped at 4.1.2 devs got it all the way up to 4.4.4 with cyanogenmod based roms and they seem to work flawlessly. Some of the kitkat roms for s2 are official by cyanogenmod
I just cant wait for the android l to release, i did some research and they say that it might arrive from 23rd september - 23rd december but when 4.4.4 was released s2 got the rom in 3-4 days i just love those animations on android l

Dude,i think you are wrong!
yes it's ture S2 it's kind of old. BUT! if you just give S2 Developing Thread a visit you will see that it has many Custom roms and lot's of good Dev's are still working on it!
Samsung Galaxy SII still have more Custom Roms and Mods than Some New Smart phones.
All the main devs are gone. Once there will be bigger change in lets acceleration handling in new Android release, S2 will be done. Once S3 will be done with updates, there won't be any way for S2 to be mended by hacking stuff from other similar devices. I've happily sold my old S2 for the same price I've paid for the phone to my operator throughout the years and got Xperia Z2. S2 was great, but it was Samsung and that made it die prematurely. Never ever Samsung.

There will be no 4.4 official stock for galaxy s3, never, ever.
If you need 4.4.4 like CM go to cyanogenmod site and follow the steps (easy peasy installation).
It's true, that iam a newbie in Android's world.
I own samsung s3 since 2 months & it's my first android experience.
That's why i need a little explanation
why official stock rom for version 4.4.4. isn't available for our phones.
When Win XP has arrived , it was for all PCs, isn't it ?

That is samsungs decision, after some time they stop the development for the phone, and it's been 2 years now with s3, from ics to jelly bean, and the time has come and development is stopped.
But, you have samsung kitkat ports here on xda under android development, but, since they are unofficial there might be some bugs if you don't pair them with a good kernel.
Since you are new, i suggest you to take a break and read, read all the FAQ, read every info, read about EFS backup (very important) and then, when you have all the information you need, go with rom flashing etc.
And listen to me, if you won't read and inform yourself you will mess something up and come back here to ask for help, and first response you will get is read before doing anything.
Happy readin, flashing, cheers
In this case here is my next question
On the horizon appears the next version - Android 5.0
If i understand correctly, that means once again Android x.x will not be made available for our phones and we will need to get again some custom roms, aren't we ?
