USB OTG support yet? - AT&T LG Optimus G

Hi gang-
Maybe nottach or someone else in the know could answer this question, does the Optimus G support usb on the go yet? I have tried several USB dongles and keys that work fine on my Galaxy S2 and Nexus 7 but nothing appears to work properly on the Optimus yet, even despite trying several USB mounting utilities such as stickmount.
Am I using the wrong utilities, or is there no support in the stock ROM or Base ROM yet?

There's no support for it in the kernel, stock or sk8's kernel. Hopefully, once custom kernels become available, we will have USB OTG capability, although I don't know how popular it will be, given that you can stick in a 64Gig micro sdcard in our LGOG.

[Q] USB Host Mode?

Hey,
I purchased a USB OTG cable for my Archos G9 I'm getting for Christmas (two days!)
I tried a mouse, 4 flash drives and a keyboard, knowing that the Ace most likely doesn't include Host mode.. It didn't work at all, So I was wondering if any kernels support it or roms?
I know it can be hacked through like kernel modules, Just wondering how much work it would be to create modules and drivers for it? I'm not that experienced with creating kernel modules and what not, I've created and ported roms and fixed kernels before for the GT540 and to be honest, I'm really not that good at it haha.
Does anyone know anything we could do to make it work?
Thanks in advance,
Jamie.
-Edit:
Just saw this for the Blade, Based on the 600mhz 7227, http://sven.killig.de/android/Blade/usb_host/
Maybe this could be edited for our Ace?
I think that we can have USB Host, but i don't know why nobody tried to give us that feature... maybe cpu arch?
However, i want it too

It would be pretty cool Probably drain the battery alot though haha.
Its supported by the CPU as Qualcomm have said before, so its up to Samsung or a pretty cool and nice dev All the drivers and Kernel Modules are on the page I linked to so it'd be a case of making it all relative to the Ace and its kernel

Hope I'm not bringing up too old a thread, but I searched in correct forum and this is what came up.
Any news of anyone building the correct Kernel for the Ace II in order to support USB Host ?
II have a Samsung engineer getting back to me about if Ace II Android 4.1.2 can mount external USB devices, but unless Samsung supports this II'll have to replace Android with something that can.
Needing this for photo transfer from camera SD card. I could use a mini SD card but just paid out for a highest speed SDHC card. Anyway those llittle SD mini SD cards are too easy to lose on mountaintops and that kind of thing
USB host wiht libusb
I also am still looking for usb host mode support.
Does anyone have any information?

[Q] A/V output.

Hello everybody,
I know that the scene is working really hard making and porting ROMS for the NT, now that CM7 (ALPHA) is out... I'm curious if is a CHANCE or light in the future to use a micro USB/HDMI output to be able to connect the tablet to a HD TV using MHL.
PS: Is the CM7 KERNEL capable of mounting or recognize keyboards, gamepads etc etc with micro USB port.

I'm pretty sure that video output would require some hardware support, soas far as I know that won't be possible.
I don't know about using the USB for external devices, but if they ever figure out the "magic number" it should be possible via Bluetooth.

MHL is pretty cool .But AFAIK Nook does not have a HDMI out function. B&N would've advertised the **** out of this feature , coz it would have been a great advertising feature .IIRC most 7" tabs lack video output .
USB OTG has not been described as a feature and seems very unlikely .
If the bluetooth module (present but disabled) is unlocked and drivers installed , then BT keyboards, gamepads possible in the distant future .
Hav fun

It is possible to pipe the display signal with software plugin and rebuild in PC via normal USB connector. It works in PSP.
Can someone send me the internal zip for cm7 please

[Q] USB OTG on Desire X

Hi,
does anybody know, whether USB OTG is supported by Desire X? I assume it is not supported by the stock system, but can I expect the support to be added by some custom system?
Regards,
Stepan

It stands for USB on the go. It is the ability of the phone to act as USB host. So that you can connect a USB flash drive, keyboard, or mouse... to the phone.
There is an app in Google Play that allows to check your phone's capability of USB OTG or USB Host Mode, but I couIdn't test it with my Desire X, because I don't have any USB peripherals with a micro-usb connector. The app only says there are "classes" found (don't ask me what that means) that seem to support it. I couldn't see anything in the manual about it either.
The One X doesn't even have USB OTG with the kernel it uses now, but they might enable it in a future kernel update (read that somewhere).
Your best bet is to contact HTC support and ask them straight out.
I tested the app.
The Kernel is not supporting USB Hosting. (It`s only a Software issue, i think)
Hopefully the update will bring this feature.
S4 Play on MSM8225 doesn't support OTG. Just go on Qualcomm site and you can see it.
A bit late....
Hahaha I am a bit late on this one, but all aspects of USB OTG are functional on the Desire X w/ stock and some custom roms. This includes storage, keyboard/mouse, gamepads and much much more. Works flawlessly, and better than the Nexus 7 2013 on Stock can manage (no usb storage support!) One of the reasons I switched to CM 11 on my Nexus.

The thing is, USB OTG works only from Android version 4.1 and newer. 4.0 has no OTG support.

USB OTB with Charging

Anyone known of/if there will be a kernel or ROM that will enable USB OTG and charging? I have that set up for my Nexus 7 and would really like it running on my HOX+ I'm running the NAM version.

I am noticing at least nominal USB OTG support on my AT&T HOX+ with stock kernel. Just tested a wireless mouse and flash drive and both work just fine. As for "charging", I'm unsure of what that entails, but unless one of the kernels in the Development forums mentions it, you can expect that it's not currently on anyone's todo list.

[Q] Which Samsung player supports usb otg?

Hi to everybody!
I am a owner of a Galaxy 3.6 player and I am very interested in buying the new dac / headphone amp by Fiio, the E18 model.
You can see more details on the official site (Products -> Portable AMP&DAC).
In the description they write:
"E18 can work with smartphones with USB OTG function"
I don't think that my player supports this feature, but I ask: is an hardware problem (the player does not supply sufficient energy) or a software problem (too old Android version, ...)?
If this is not possibile with the litlle GP 3.6, there is on the market another player that can do this?
[Little OT: the old Galaxy S with cyanogenmod 10.1.3 supports the usb otg?]
I believe (according to the OP) that Androthan's Arcane Kernel for the GP3.6 supports usb otg feature. But there are a lot of people mentioning wifi problems with that kernel and the usb otg feature has not been tested (not sure) therefore I would'nt recommend it.
As for other Galaxy Players, I doubt the stock rom and kernel of any player have the usb otg feature. But it has been achieved through custom kernels with usb otg support

Many thanks for your answer.
I found on the forum the related thread for the Kernel that you have indicated, but it seems discontinued.
Perhaps there is a hope for the Androthan's CyanogenMod porting...
In the meantime I investigated how the Fiio E18 will work with a android device. Here is an answer I found in another forum:
"When E18 works as a DAC for the smartphone, the phone will not provide power for the E18. That is to say, the E18 will not consume the power of the smartphone when the E18 plays a role of DAC."
So it seems that is not mandatory that the player can supply power via usb. Perhaps is enough that the USB OTG is enabled in the kernel.
I will ask about this to Androthan...

Another question. The development on a custom rom for the galaxy 3.6 is still in development and in a early stage. Which player got a good custom rom, stable and without big issue?
Inviato dal mio Galaxy Nexus con Tapatalk
Well both the 3.6 and 4.2's CM7 is still under development and currently these devices only have stock.based ROMS and themes.
Both the 4.0 & 5.0 have custom roms including CM10.2. I've heard they have managed to get 5.0's 4.2.2 stable along with FM radio and camera (using a third party app). The 4.0 only has minor camera issues.

Here is another question about the USB OTG feature.
I'm not a developer, so I ignore many things about the question...
From what I've read on this forum, the OTG is usually introduced with a kernel that can be flashed on a stock or custom rom.
But here is my question: if I want to introduce only this feature in a device, it would be possible to do it with a "simple" patch or an app?
The device MUST be rooted to obtain this feature?
I ask this because to use an external DAC like the Fiio E18, it would be really useful to be able to achieve this functionality in a "simple" way without having to flash a custom rom or a kernel...
Nope...you have to use a custom kernel which includes the usb otg feature, does'nt matter with which ROM, stock or custom. Also I heard someone telling the USB OTG feature cannot be used with our players due to lack of enough power from the micro usb port.
EDIT: I think if a kernel (stable) with USB OTG feature is released for the 3.6, you'll be able to use your DAC as it doesn't need power from the phone.
