The updates for apps to take advantage of Windows Phone 8 features keep on coming. Today we get the popular BBC News Mobile for Windows Phone hitting up the Marketplace. The app is a popular way for readers around the globe to access the BBC News website in an optimized format for your device.
It’s been a little over a week since we showed you what to expect in the version 4 of the app (completely rewritten), but here is a quick refresher of some features you can look forward when updating:
Lockscreen support – Use a new picture from the In Pictures blog as your lockscreen, will update daily.
Improved performance
Support for small, medium, and large Live Tiles
New welcome experience – Walks a user though setting up the app when launched for the first time.
I’ve updated the app and already notice the improvement in performance. It wasn’t really a slouch before, but the app is really fluid now when swiping between panorama view or opening articles.
If the BBC is your source of news, this app is worth download or updating right away. Obviously, those improvements above like lockscreen support and different tile sizes will work for those running Windows Phone 8.

Guys, there is one very good application released on PocketGear. I have it on my s740 and apart from being perfect new Start Menu with some very very useful features it can route audio to an earpiece when Skype is active. Also it has Task and Process Manager and it is fully animated.
I wrote an article about it at wmpoweruser.com/?p=13748 (still can't post links, sorry for that) with screenshots and with more details. There are some bad comments about design of application, but it looks like people don't realize that this is for Smartphone/Standard device only, with QVGA resolutions most of the time.
Maybe it's just me, but I think that this looks really good for a Smartphone application.

I tried many apps to customize the Start-Menu and i think thats the best....its fully animated to....you had to do a little work at the shortcuts but when its done its the best menu ever......

What I like about Ultimate Start is T9 search of applications. Just like in Contacts. Very fast way to get to any application, bookmark or java application.

I really like the concept of this app. They need to have more built in scenes, but a few are pretty good. The notifications support IM, GMail, Twitter, and Facebook.
You can add your own scenes for notification, be it an image or movie file. And of course customize it with your own notify tones.
However, because of the battery effect it was having on my phone and the lack of support for more notification types (eMail, Google Voice, GTalk), I have uninstalled already

Any chance to get xap for dev unlocked devices?
I´ve installed it, great browser, musch faster then IE! Even better than Opera Mini. The only complain is that we can choose to be default one.
Sadly, Microsoft has forbidden third-party apps from registering themselves for the "HTTP" and "HTTPS" URI schemes. If we can get write access to the registry (don't hold your breath) we could make it the default browser; my HD7's default browser is an earlier version of this app.

Great bur needs support for other User Agents
Excellent browser but it is missing one HUGE feature - support for switching user agents. There are multipe web-pages that just render better if the user agent is set to iPhone / android / iPad and if this feature is supported in a future release this may become the go-to browser on WP8 platform!
Lets get this feature in the next release - please!
