Omega v34 ROM - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am using Omega v34 ROM and battery very, very bad. On stock rom I had, at least one full day of usage, but now it is a figt to go through working day (7-9h).
I wiped battery stats following a procedure, but that didn't help at all.
And one more thing TouchWizz is crashing at least 5 times a day.

You would need to provide more information.
Have you check what's draining your battery? (you can find a general list in settings--> battery)
You should also try to use better battery stats and ask on the BBS thread/forum for help there to see what the culprit is.
I have between 8hrs to almost 2 days depending on usage.

It seems like screen is using allmost 40% of battery.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

set it to automatic brightness. Also use better battery stats and do a full day or night log and ask for help in their forum to see what might be draining your phone.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

As mentioned above, sounds like you might have a wakelock somewhere. You can identify any rogue apps with better battery stats and then uninstall or freeze them. Try using power saving mode, you shouldn't really notice any decrease in performance but your battery life will improve. You should be able to get screen on time off about 3 - 4 hours.

I have a Juice defender ultimate and JD is taking care of brightness (but never over 65%).
How can I do this log?

Stop using those apps. They use more battery than they save.

"battery saving" apps are really bad for your phone to begin with. remove that junk first. It's probably one ofnthe culprits keeping your phone awake.
then do the BBS thing I mentioned earlier.

Issues connecting to unsecured wifi hotspots
Using Omega v34 and love it! but when I try to connect to my unsecure wifi at work it won't connect. Please help

There seems to have been quite a lot of discussion regarding issues with battery life on Omega 34, in the Omega thread. Because of battery issues that some people are experiencing, Chris_84 has a suggestion in his FAQ (question 27).
You could try a different kernel. Apparently the Yank kernel is pretty good for battery life (I use Siyah version 1.8.4 with Omega 34 and get brilliant results, but then I don't use my phone that heavily. The Siyah kernel allows you to tweak some settings that help with battery).
Also, a lot of comments in the Omega thread talk about installing BBS (Better Battery Stats, as per the comments by mputtr) and posting the log file into the BBS thread (or even in the Omega thread).

Not sure, but have you tried;
a) Removing the WiFi profile off your phone and setting it up again.
or
b) Reset the router (if work let you)...

Help me find the culprit!

Over the past week since I got the S3 I've been Turing off all the stuff that eats the battery power.... syncs etc.
I noticed that when I leave wifi on overnight that theres alot a wakelocks still showing up in the graph. BBS shows connectivityService and activitymanager as top two wakelocks of about 15 mins each.
I can't find out what is causing these wakelocks.
When I turn wifi off, the drain goes down to about 1.2% per hour according to battery monitor widget.
Can anyone once and for all help me get rid of all these wakelocks so that the phone is in deep sleep when it's meant to be? I even turn wifi off during sleep policy.
Thanks.

Just needed the first page of your wakelocks. Kernel wakelock can be found from the drop down menu when you hit partial wakelocks. Also use cpu spy to check whether your phone is properly going into deep sleep.
Normal procedure for me when trying to fix a wakelock:
1. Identify wakelocks with the highest up time
2. google the wakelock names because someone else has probably come across the same problem.
You can rule out rom issues because you're running stock with cf root kernel
Also I noticed AudioOut_1- a fix for that wakelock is usually turning off button sounds(not volume!) and in some cases the haptic feedback as well
If you don't mind me asking, what's that frog icon in your status bar?

I take it I can use titanium pro to back up and then restore all my apps after wipe? How do I go about restoring on the data from selective apps?
I've been using autostarts since last night and I find it excellent.
One question regarding it....how come when I've stuff like Google+ and Game hub frozen in titanium, it keeps showing up in autostarts(and set to start up at certain event changes...even though its frozen)??
thanks for help so far.
No problem. I don't know why the frozen apps show up in the other lists. I usually just limit the apps in the 'after startup' list and leave the rest alone. I normally use titanium to remove them completely.
As for individual data restoration, you can click individual apps in titanium and restore their data. Also check out your Samsung battery stats and see if cell standby is eating up your battery(it's a problem for me but yours might be more serious)

Well I don't think cell standby is a problem for me. I did a little experiment this morning.
Battery was 100% charged, so I unplugged it, turned off wifi and mobile data and let it rest for 3 hours.
Came back and saw that zero drain had occurred and that the battery was still at 99%(which it goes to straight away when you take off charge as you know).
I also had zero wakelocks as the phone was in a true deep sleep.
So I'm still in the position of trying to locate the cause of my wakelocks when either wifi or mobile data is on!
Could these wakelocks be from the wifi/mobile data just searching for a signal? I've tried to weed out any possible apps causing wakelocks when the internet is on but still cannot find the problem.
Well if you you've narrowed it down to your wifi/data problem, try flashing a different modem(possibly one of the newer ones)

first of all, i dont think that this i anyhow abnormal - since you are using sammy rom, 15% for almost 8 hours gives you 48 hours time between charging.
in settings/battery you should tap the field with uptime, and you will get info about battery discharging - if there are blue bars showing that device is awake, but screen is off, you are probably experiencing wakelocks; then you should either uninstall recently installed app which could wake your phone, or install betterbatterystats and check what is causing wakelocks.

yeah, thats the one. compare "awake" and "screen on" blue vertical lines, every time there is line at awake but screen is off, you have a wakelock (event that wakes up device from deepsleep and causes battery drain).
as i can see there are 5-6 short wakelocks which arent too important. you would have best battery life if you choose not to use sammy roms, but its a different story.

there is no easy solutions... but if you want to get deeper into system tweaking, you must read a lot, root your phone and use different kernels to see which one suits your needs best. i could suggest you resurrection remix rom v2.6.1 as one of the most developed ics roms, since jelly bean roms are still in pre-release stage. also a dorimanx kernel, because its most supported. using above combo, i have great deepsleep with almost 0 wakelocks, and about 5 hours of screen time with heavy usage (opera browser almost all the time, and opera is very cpu intensive browser). battery drain while screen is off is almost obsolete.

[Q] Tricks for longer battery life?

Hi All,
Coming from a iPhone4, I noticed that even overnight when the phone is in standby the % drop in the battery is greater on the SGS3.
I am currently running the Omega V25 ROM and the battery drain when in standby is about 10-13% over 7hrs in standby whilst I am sleeping. I read a few days back on the Omega forum (cannot find it again) one of the users saying how great the battery life was for them...something like 1% drop over a few hours in standby....do you know if there is some trick to get such good performance?
I have used good programs like Juice Defender which brings it back to on par with the iPhone4, but does get a bit annoying sometimes waiting for the network connections to restart. Sometimes it even refuses to restart the network which is VERY annoying. I was wondering if there was something I am missing that can get great battery life (IN STANDBY) without 3 party programs like Juice Defender etc....
Thanks,
Ray

Go offline on Gtalk, Turn off Wifi/mobile data while not in use. Other thing I do is Download CPUspy on Google Play to verify the Cpu Usage.
With power saving mode enabled I loose only 1-2% of battery juice over night. (Mobile data disabled, gsm only mode).

Hi!
I gotta advise you that juicedefender/other battery defending apps hurt more than it should actually help. Think of it this way, juicedefender is also an app. App=RAM consumption, High RAM consumption=High battery consumption.
Also, flashing a custom kernel can help out. There are tweaks which you can do with custom kernels.
E.G. *Undervolting [if you are a total noob on this, then you might read thoroughly how to do this]
You can have manual settings to low screen brightness, not go to vibrate mode, led notif off, etc. And more importantly, CLOSE APPS THAT RUN IN BACKGROUND Such as: Facebook
You can never really rely that let's say, Person1 is having awesome battery life with KernelX because it depends mainly on your SETTINGS and STANDARD USAGE
I hope this will help you out

That's the reason why. Yes you can try that. Try to wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing siyah 1.6. If it does not help then the only option you can make is to full wipe and flash again the rom

Here are some tips:
1. Put wi-fi policy to never. It's in wi-fi settings.
2. Disable unnecessary sync (FB, google, email etc)
3. Install custom kernel, like others said.
4. Install better battery stats and find what's causing your phone awake (wake locks)

Post your battery stats!

Hey guys, please post your battery stats by using app called better battery stats. I have to charge my every 10 hours. My phone was in deep sleep for 6hrs or so. My battery drain average is 10.4%/hour. So, please post your battery stats using better battery stats. btw, I'm using stock gb rom with tagb 1.2 hotfix kernel. My battery drains even in deep sleep mode (I guess, I'm not sure) The person who has best stats may tell us some tips.
PS: please download better battery stats app from xda, as the developer provides free version for xda users, but in market its paid app.

The problem lies in
How we use our phone
How old is our phone
ROM and kernel versions
Applications installed
and everything related..
You cannot compare an apple to a orange.
I think this is very decent battery life (using CM9).

Depends on your usage. Of course, powersave would be in the running for best battery life, but it would not be ideal if you are a gamer or heavy user. I personally use a governor not available on any of the GB kernels as far as I know (SmartassH3).
Never liked SetCPU. I use No frills; simple UI, allows you to change governor and I/O scheduler, look at some frequency stats, etc.

Is governor suitable for battery saving? I'm a moderate user, I want my phone to sleep like baby, when screen is off and make sure that any app doesn't keeps my phone awake! I have upgraded the version of my better battery stats app. Will post the screen shot of battery stats in a few hours, would you mind if I send you the dump of my usage to you by pm! So that you could help me!

SmartassH3 is supposed to be a more battery efficient version of Smartassv2.
I don't think changing your governor will help with sleeping issues. Governors only affect how the CPU ramps up and down. If you have issues with your phone sleeping, then it is most likely one of your apps.
Since you already have BetterBatteryStats, you can easily check partial wakelocks and see if any apps are keeping your phone awake.
I really doubt upgrading the app will change the battery usage of your phone.
If you cared about battery life, being on stock is bad start. Why not use CM7 or CM9?

The reboot during the call may be a kernel problem. Would you like to describe your problem in more detail?

Just change the rom and Kernel.
You are getting so many bugs and yet you didn't flash new rom.
I recommend that you change roms and see what's best for your phone and your usage.
I'm not sure but the kernel you are using is for gaming I think. ie. More power, less battery.
Anyways here is a battery usage graph :

[Q] suggestions to get better battery life

Hello! I usually get about 2 hours of screen on time on my GS3. After doing some research, i found out that 2 hours is not very good...so I have some questions. Take into account that I have tried to minimalise the us on my GS3 and also watched battery tips and tricks videos and even flashed bestMultitasking fix already.
Is there someway to improve my battery life?
While making this thread, my battery dropped from 36 to 34, using wifi and power saving on...also, my signal is full, so it's not a problem from cellular reception
get checkup of your battery and apart from that also goto settings>battery and see how which activity uses the most battery
The 2nd screenshot is from the android system ...

Guys please take time and read the rules before posting such threads. Best ROM/kernel threads are prohibited to posted as there is no best ROM/kernel. All of it are subject to your usage so opinions are useless until you try them all.

It seems that Android OS is killing some of your battery life, this usually only happens when you flash a custom ROM, Id suggest finding out what is killing your battery, download an app called wakelock detector, itll show whats using what
Also, the Greenify app is amazing, it wont let any app you chose to run unless you click it.
You could try turning on your power saving setting, itll slow the phone right down ( thats why i hate touchwiz ) but itll give you an extra 30 minutes of screen on time
Theres always custom Roms and kernels too, Ive got the Illusion Rom which ate up the battery for a day ( every new ROM does this ) and then applied the Googy Max kernel, Im running on 800 mhz with undervolting and still silky smooth
Also, try disabling Google services/ sync and disable Google now, for some reasons they seem to be the issue in most cases

I've already done the above mentioned. The biggest consumer is Facebook but I have set the notifications to refresh every hour...

This was today's usage...I don't get it. I guess that media server is when I play music through bluetooth in my car. Still, very bad screen on time ...
the factors that affect battery life:
-screen brightness
-bluetooh connection
-wi-fi connection
-gps
-3G/2G connection
-synchronization
-wallpaper
-vibration
Get zerolemon battery i can get 11/12 hours screen on time with juice to spare!
