It was fun while it lasted... - HTC EVO 3D

While I've never been a big poster on XDA, I have posted on various developers sites. After almost two years sticking right by my trusty 3vo, I am sadly moving on.
My phone was stolen over the weekend. I tracked it down with lookout, but was only able to get a general location from signal flare when the phone died. I had the option of paying $100 for a replacement, or $50 to upgrade +phone. $250 and one Optimus G later, here I am.
Point of this thread is to say thank you to all the amazing devs we have for the 3vo. I have donated a little here and there where I could, but still wanted to just say thank you for giving us your time to make our community what it is. Hope the Optimus community turns out to be as amazing as this one was.
Thanks for everything guys! XD

Enjoy your Optimus. Too bad your leaving the Evo family.
But there's a thread for Goodbyes already!

Latest LG Optimus looks pretty decent.
I was going to go with the Evo 4G LTE or the Optimus, but when I learned about Ting (on Sprint) I decided against getting locked into another 2 year contract. Instead I picked up a used (but great condition) Evo 3D for $80 shipped and now enjoying an average 50% break on my monthly cellular bill! :good:

ENJOY your optimus. Try cerberus anti-theft

Sorry to hear that bro. The evo is an amazing phone and will still be a testament of legendary as years go by and all of us have moved on. I still got my evo 3d and continue to update it and tinker around with it. Because root is awesome and flashing is an addiction lol.
I hope your experience with your optimus is as good as this community. This is the best community I have ever belonged in. Cheers:good:

I sold mine on Ebay I boxed him up last night right after the Good Block party we threw him. Today we had a departing ceremony, it was a very depressing scene
(Tears falling).. o.k. EVO 4g.. your the first android device I've ever had.. you popped my android cherry. I was a winmo user before . Thanks EVO. For the year that you've been in ny life I am grateful .. through the ups (cm7, freshrom) and downs (no 4g with miui) you've been the best phone I've had .. as I wrap u up in a UPS box please don't hate me. Just remember all the times I've tickled you with new roms and boosted you with super kernals.. (still crying )

i still use my 4g... my 3d doesnt fit into my armband for working out quite like my evo does, and i can still use the gps for my runkeeper.... so can you say "ipod touch 4g" LMAO
Dear Evo 4G,
I'm sorry that I had thoughts of saying goodbye, but in the end I kept you. It could have been worse: look at these people in this thread! In the end, I did the right thing. I traded in your ugly stepsister instead. She was an old dusty iPhone who hadn't been turned on in a year. Sure, I didn't get quite as much for her, but hopefully someone with lower standards will be able to turn her on now.
Let's not ponder whether or not we would have parted ways had you not had an ugly stepsister to give away. Let's only focus on the fact that you are still here, passed down to my daughter who is now enjoying a fully rooted, Deck'd out 2.3.4 ROM Evo. If we were forced to part ways, I would honestly miss you!

i kept mine too...
Dear Eva (my gf's nickname for my Evo),
You were my first Android phone, and helped get me out of a lot of crazy situations. I loved you like no other phone, and I'm sorry that I had to let you go. It was just time. Thanks for all the good times testing out new roms, and sorry for all the times that I yelled at you for not booting. I hope you have fun with your new owner.
Brian
I bit the bullet and did the Sprint trade in program today . I was putting it off for a long time, but alas our ways must part.
Dear Evo 4g,
You have given me many hours of delight since the day you were launched. I will never forget the time when you convinced a die hard Iphone fanboy to see the light and come over to android. I will never forget the way you changed the world and set a benchmark for all other phones to be compared to. I called it the evo standard, does it have 4.3" screen, front camera, 1ghz processor... I will never forget you, but alas I have adopted a new evo into our family. I didnt think it would be fair to put you into the closet next to my hero and other old phones. SO I posted a adoption notice for you on CL and asked for a rehoming fee ($300). I hope that you will give your new home as much joy as you did mine. The lady who adopted you was very gracious to have you, just as I was.
The evo 4G was one of those phones that will always be referenced and continued to be used for years to come. many new phones being launched today still cant contend with the evo 4g.
Let my 4g go. Miss the extra .25" or so on the width, but the 3d is so cool. And it's super fast!

I'm new to these forums and I'd like to say Thank you.

I'm new here to XDA, in fact I'm new to the cell phone/smart phone arena in general. I just got my first cell phone (not company owned/paid for) about a month and a half ago. But, being the tech nerd I am when it comes to maximizing performance and customization with computer hardware, it transferred over to my cell phone and wanting to maximize it for everything I could possibly imagine it doing.
But to cut to the chase, I recently signed up with Sprint and originally bought an Evo 4G, but luckily the Evo 3D was released within a week of me signing up so I took advantage of the return policy and got that.
The point of this thread is I want to say thank you. The reason being is because for the first month and a half I've owned the Evo 3D, while I was happy with it's base performance, but I felt with the hardware under the hood could do more. When unrevoked and alpharev released their revolutionary s-off tool I was excited, but at the same time timid. I thought about all the worst case scenarios I seem to have the unfortunate luck of falling upon and stopped myself from rooting my phone just based on that fear alone. But after seeing a few youtube videos, and a plethora of guides including step by step instructions provided by you guys on how to root my phone, and the benefits I took that leap of faith.
In other words, or as most forum junkies would call it tl;dr -- I would like to thank XDA and the people who post on these forums, as well as provide quality ROM's, Mod's, and Kernels for helping me get over my fear of rooting, because now the Evo 3D I originally bought is now rooted and doing more. Hell, even after rooting my phone I decided to buy the XDA app off of the android market to contribute in what way I can, and once I get a credit card I'm going to contribute to JoelZ9614's getting an Evo 3D fund.
Again thank you.

Gonna have to agree with the OP! :]
I remember I was new to android and the OG evo was my into to it and xda. I was overwhelmed with new stuff to learn..what is a PRL, MSL, throttling and so on....I just kept on reading the posts and using google for research on new terminology. I had to to stop being so darn confused. The 3vo( any haters for that term...tough...I will call it what I want..I own the damn thing... ) is one heck of a phone and I see the progression on the roms coming at a incredible rate. Only this place can we have what we have. I do agree with you.
I am new here as well but i have been on other Android forums for a while ow. I find the information is greater here and keeps me on the XDA developers pages longer. I have this on my phone as well and wanna thank u guys and gals for ur work.

How about everyone quit complaining?

This is a development community for the Rezound, not the VZW Warranty Replacement department. The phone has been out 3 freaking days! Quit whining and moaning that you can't do this and you can't do that. If you NEEDED your backups so bad you should have waited until it was posted across the board we had real root. Things will come together, sorry you don't have your convenient tools yet. You wanted to jump on the bandwagon, deal with it until your conveniences are restored. It isn't that difficult to spend a little time restoring everything manually. I did it, and I am sure many others did so too.
Stop crying for a couple weeks, and lets let the Dev's not be discourage by this phone, being that is all you are really doing by stating, "I can't root yet! I am switching to the Nexus!" Stop the bull****.
Agreed. Chances are you bought it in the last few days and you have until sometime in January to switch due to a temporary verizon policy change. Just cool it for the time being.
I believe that only applied to phones bought 15th-29th.

Not a bummer if you have no complaints, lol. Who wants to make bets the complainers pick up the Nexus and try to come back?
Anyways, CyanogenMod said CM9 is due out in ~2months. I didn't see what devices, but I am assuming this will be one to get it quick. About that same time frame ICS should be coming, MIUI goes hand in hand with CM, Big things happening! Not to mention this phone is a pretty big powerhouse without modifying it.
YEAH u make a good point LOL. Ahh cm9 would be great. I'm a MIUI Linda guy tho. No offense to any who are already Herr but I hope we can get the DEVs we need to port things over such as CM and such. I'm very curious if we get on that list. That would be huge for our Forum

amen sister.
i love this phone; yeah there's a couple quirks, but who cares, the phone performs outstandingly and gets the same battery performance, if not better, than my incredible got. that to me is awesome. it's fast, looks damn good, has an amazing screen, and the camera is GORGEOUS. what's NOT to like?
The screen is the biggest slap in the face to iPhone owners! lol, bigger AND better! Crushed another of their reasons why they think Apple products are godsend! I can't keep my hands off this phone, I am still learning Sense too!
Yeah the screen is Incredible. My wifes wants to ditch sprint altogether now and get one herself. Looks like I'm headed back to Verizon.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
wait, don't you already have it if you have a rezound?
Not all bad, except you won't have unlimited data. But, just like I stated in the X2 forums a while back, it is all a strategy to make money. They went tiered because they knew they would still draw customers, they have the better network, and now they offer double the data on a faster network with better phones. Eventually we will work our way back to unlimited, or damn near unlimited. Albeit might be more expensive, and there may still be plans under the unlimited plan.
Look like I got across to everyone This is going to be a GREAT community! Nowhere near the bickering of the X2 forum!

Thanks to the Developers

I'm switching to sprint next week and I'm getting the nexus 5, I just wanted to thank our amazing developers for all their hard work keeping our phone updated, I really appreciate all of you guys, hopefully some of u will get the nexus 5

ill have my rezound as a dev phone till it crumples up and dies....but i plan on getting the One very shortly
I might be jumping ship to the One as well...I've been trying to talk myself into it for a few months but it seems like the universe is pushing for me to get it. I just got an invite to elevate yesterday.. later that night I was just switching to a different extended battery (I like to cycle through different ones to keep them happy) and poof reboot every 3 min. It happened all day today too. I finally got it to stop after uninstalling some recent apps and doing my magical "Rezound please don't reboot" dance/prayer/ritual.
I love my Rezound when it's working properly (I think I'm on my 7th), but I'm starting to see it as a warm heavy brick in my pants.
Sorry, I had some venting to do that no one I know in real life would understand. No tech savvy friends, I hear the occasional "Why don't you have an iPhone?" from them.
Sent from my warm heavy ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
I also want to thank all of the devs. Great job keeping it up to date. I switched to the Note 3 recently and it's badass. I was stuck between the One, G2 and the Note 3 but I definitely made the right choice. The One looks awesome but I love how big and powerful the Note 3 is. All my previous phones have been HTC but I think Samsung definitely won me over. It's been a pleasure my friends. Hope to see you guys around again. Snuzzo, Fly, Neo..you guys are awesome!
I would like to send my appreciation as well... I am on the verge of getting the HTC One. My phone has been freezing up recently and its not a software related crash, so I'm afraid I went in the Verizon store and was awe struck at the One... although I don't like the lack of a changeable battery or SD card, but damn its a nice phone. I was sold and am very close to buying one.
This would be the first time I haven't changed phones out of anger at my old phone. The Rezound really has impressive specs and impressive devs who build for it...this is the reason I have extended my usage on the Rezound for nearly a year now. Its too bad the Rezound wasn't better known. Its still generally fast and still has a great screen, I would dare say the best of its time.
I hope to see some Rezound devs on the One in the future. I know more than one has mentioned the plan to move on to the One.
It will be a somber bitter sweet day for me as i love my Rezound but I'm needing to move on if I keep having this issue.
I would also like to say a big thank you to our devs here. It's been a generally awesome device to own because of them. Specifically Neo for the numerous amazing ROMs he's given us, Snuzzo and IHateWebOS for their awesome kernels, Flyhalf for maintaining TWRP and, of course, Chad for being our AOSP savior! shrike1978 also gets a big thanks for the writeup on how to build CM. Without that I guarantee I never would have compiled a ROM myself.
The guys working hard in the AOSP Dev thread to get us a stable 4.4 ROM also get a shout out.
The unlimited.io guys also get a MASSIVE thanks for their S-OFF tool Juopunutbear. The process was just badass lol. Never would've thought when I got the phone and saw those pins that they would be so important down the road. I think that's kind of what made owning this device awesome as well; the fact that you had to put in some effort to get S-OFF made it feel more like an accomplishment, like you've earned it. With the Nexus 5 (the device I'll be switching to when it finally decides to ship/arrive) it'll just be as simple as "fastboot oem unlock" and it's fully unlocked. There's no sense of achievement or anything doing that! Lol I'm definitely not saying I wish it was harder or anything, just that it won't be the same.
I would also like to thank the community for always supporting and being polite to our developers, as well as always being willing to help one another. I think the fact that we have one thread with over 500 posts in it with people just helping each other speaks for how awesome you guys are.
It's been a long road for us Rezound owners, and it makes me a bit sad to think about moving on to a different device, with a different community. I can only hope that the Nexus 5 community will be half as good as this one.
Hope to see you guys over there with me.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app.
While I did just jump to an LG G2, I won't be going anywhere anytime soon. I've invested way too much time and effort on this phone to walk away from it. Not to mention the Mrs. has a rezound and the G2 is an officially supported device, so there's really no challenge to it.
The good news is now I have a dev phone, so I don't have to worry about getting it back to a working state when I'm working on it.
Well I did it. I got the One. I had to pay full retail price for it otherwise I cant keep my unlimited data... and considering that I've used 11Gb so far, that was not an option.
I am impressed with it as I was impressed with the Rezound when I got it.
This community has been amazing. This was the first phone I ever flashed anything too. Considering now the Rezound is a spare/play phone, maybe I will try some developing for it. I know I wont be able to match the great devs here, but I figured I could try my hand at it. Especially now this is not my main phone I need to rely on.
So once again a big thanks for the additional life that some great people have given to the Rezound. A truly great place to be. Now I just need to try to get my Paypal back so I can show some appreciation monetarily to some people.

Leaving the Rezound

hey all,
Its actually a sad day for me. My rezound finally totally kicked the bucket and i no long have a deving device. So after some thought, i desided that I will no longer be doing deveolopment for the Rezound. Its been a fun ride while it lasted, but with family, work, and other things going on, my time has been spread very thin. I hope you all continue to enjoy the rezzy and i hope ill run into some of the rezound community on another part of the forums.
If anyone is wondering, I went with the LG G2 and if i ever find some time again to dev, it will be for that device
Thanks everyone for your support, and contributions that made developing the rezound so much fun. Also thanks to all the other dev that help me get started with ROM development
It's sad to see you go. I loved your ROMs very much and I hope you provide your awesome skills to the G2 community. You did very well here and you deserve to rest; Many thanks for everything!

After 2 years I retired my Rezound and purchased a Galaxy S4. I was also able to keep my unlimited data which the possible loss of made me keep the Rezound longer than I wanted to. I started to wait for the Galaxy S5 but I got such a good deal on the S4, which was free at BB after 50.00 gift card I took advantage. The few upgrades in the S5 were not worth spending a couple hundred dollars more.

I to will be leaving the trusty Rezound behind tomorrow. I had many roms I liked but the two that stand out the most was Neos Tachyon and Liquidsmooth 2.37. My wife and I get to trade in for the new Galaxy S5 tomorrow. So with a sad heart I say goodbye and good luck my friends.
May the force be with you. Always.

Every phone should have buttons on the back... Why manufacturers didn't implement this before is beyond me, once you have it a while you will see how natural it feels to have them there. Plus with knock on/off you only use volume buttons, I rarely ever even touch the power button.

Hey, its takes a little getting use to, but overall i love it. I notice for the most part i dont use the buttons on the back. It has the knock on and knock off feature which is implemented really nice. so 95% if the time i use that. The only time i really use the buttons, is when i need to adjust the volumes. Other then that, the phone has been rock solid, fast, great battery life. My only complaint is the speakers are not the best and not super loud, the rezzy smokes it any day, but overall, the best phone ive had in a long time, including the rezzy.

You know, i was real disappointed when the finally released the specs on the s5. Made some small improvement, but not enough to justify the wait or the extra money. Personally I tell people to go with the s4 unless the s5 has a feature that the must have.

What device did you get again? Not sure what I'll be doing. We may jump ship. I can't afford VZW anymore. We have 4 lines on the old 1400 minute plan each of us with $30 data and we're up to nearly $300/month. If we switch to Share Everything, it would be even more. But if we don't, trying to decide between the G2 and the One Max. Why are we such slaves to technology?

My personal phone is a Nexus 4 on Aio Wireless, works great and I save a ton of money every month. If I had to get a phone today it would be the Moto G, my son has one and the battery life is ridiculous, 7 hours screen on time for web browsing and basic use and it out performs the Rezound in all aspects except camera.

Looks like the Moto G is 3G only. I'm considering the Nexus 5 if we go to T-Mobile. Also considering AIO as well. If we can't finance our phones with T-Mobile, then there no reason not to go with an MVNO, right?
