Description
This application REQUIRES a Galaxy Nexus (maguro, toro or toroplus), Nexus 4 (mako), Nexus 5 (hammerhead), Nexus 7 2013 (deb or flo), Nexus 10 (manta), OnePlus One (bacon / A0001), OnePlus 2 (OnePlus2), or OnePlus X (OnePlus / ONE / E1001), with root.
You've rooted your device, and you are trying to decide between the security of relocking your bootloader (with stock recovery and USB Debugging off), and the flexibility of leaving it unlocked.
You know that in order to prevent an unauthorized user from accessing your data by flashing a custom recovery, "fastboot oem unlock" wipes your data. This also means that if you relock your bootloader, you will need to do a full backup-and-restore whenever you decide to unlock it again.
BootUnlocker for Nexus Devices lets you have the best of both worlds by using root privileges to unlock your bootloader from within Android, without wiping your data. This allows you to keep your bootloader locked for security, with this application safely protected behind your lockscreen password. Whenever you want to unlock or relock your bootloader, just unlock your screen and run BootUnlocker.

I'm not home to test this app? Is it still being supported?
I also write for an android site and was wondering if it would be OK to do a review of this? Everyone loves one clickers.

I'm rooted with stock ROM, can I use this app to unlock my boot loader and then flash a custom recovery like twrp? All while not losing my data.

I just bought a Nexus10 and after rooting I used this tool to relock the bootloader successfully. Now I can confirm that it works like a charm in both nexus 4 & 10.
Thank you very much!

Sorry, not wanting to thread hi-jack here or anything, but this seems like the best place to mention it. If you've ever had the experience of rebooting to bootloader and you've forgetten to unlock in BootUnlocker first, or, you really screwed something up and can't boot the OS in the first place to unlock with the app, I made a recovery flashable zip that will do the same thing. Always handy to have on hand in case of emergencies.

Cheers! :good:

When I want to flash something I always forgot to unlock before and need to reboot again... Thank you very much for Nexus 4 & 10 versions.

Just a quick note to confirm that this fantastic tool works with the new nexus10 “MANTAMD03“ bootloader (android 4.3 JWR66V).
Thank you!

Another quick confirmation; just tested with a nexus 10 under lollipop (LRX21P) and works as expected

[Q] Able to run Android 4.4 and Mojito?

Simple question. When the boot loader is released can I run Android 4.4 as my main and have the Amazon Mojito OS as a Rom. I ask because I was'n't sure if two different versions of android could run on the same device. I say this because you cannot run two versions of Mojito with safestrap.
My issue is I bought GTA SA from the Amazon app store and it only works with that stock OS. And regardless of the ability to install the kindle app on your android device that version sucks. I have to manually search through all my highlights to find my bookmarks. IDK Amazon has not added full functionality to the app.

It is unlocked. They have not released it yet.
I have ATM a hardbricked KFHDX 7" and cannot do anything about,
However, there are many things that make me believe that it is very hard right now, jcase isn't releasing anything (not what he said in the first place, but now might have changed his mind due to legal restrictions) - plus Hashcode is retiring from XDA since he is working on project Ara or smth similar. Lets just hope for the best and play the waiting game ...

MultiSystem is a powerful tool and can perform potentially dangerous and/or destructive operations on your device and data that may affect your life. While it is unlikely to do irreversable damage to your device, it is not impossible, and you should proceed with caution. Loss of data and/or the need to re-flash a full stock (manufacturer-supplied) firmware IMGs (usually requiring a computer) is always a possibility, and is increasingly likely if you do not know what you are doing. It is possible to lose root access when using MultiSystem on locked-bootloader devices running unexpoitable (bu rooted) Android firmware, without careful reading of documentation or following the instructions. Please consult with expert users before performing actions you do not comprehend.

This is answered in the Q&A thread; please read posts #1-6!
Simple One-Click Installation
I've fixed the installation script by setting the required symlinks (this makes it a very simple one-click installation for future versions), but I'll keep it a bit complicated for everyone to go through the Q&A thread (posts #1-6) to learn more before being able to use it.
On a side Note, I'd recommend to backup your data via TitaniumBackup & only wipe system data before rebooting to a completely different ROM.
Good luck!

i hope you guys have aosp rom compatibility soon! Thanks for this!
This tool doesn't seem to get a lot of replies or maybe support. But here's my experience with my first recent attempt.
I wanted to try to create and boot images from two different custom ROMs. I have a tmobile note 4. I followed the directions and after a few bumps, got it working (verified with the command "MultiSystem status" in terminal emulator). There's no green LED light at boot. It's a red one. I found somewhere instructions that said to boot a different img, you had to use volume-up plus power, etc, at boot time. I can't find those instructions again. Strange that they aren't included in the main threads.
When I say I got it to work, that only means I successfully booted an image off my SD card that I created from the internal "stock" system (really a Custom ROM). Not sure what that alone does for me. I created another image (after restoring another custom ROM I had). I then restored my other ROM from TWRP backup. I then tried booting into that 2nd image, but it seemed to hang on the startup animation (samsung in this case). Maybe it would have booted given enough time? Don't know. I gave it quite a bit of time. In the process, it affected booting into my other image. Somehow, something was changed. When I booted the first img that I could boot successfully before, that image now came up like it was new, in a way (and it took a very long time booting because it had to go through that 'optimizing apps' at startup). When completely booted, all the apps were there, but the the lock screen image changed to default, the system asked me to set up my lock screen, etc. Booting that 2nd img caused something to change, not sure what. I had to TWRP restore to get back. Funny, even after that TWRP restore, the launcher background image changed.
My initial conclusion is that the ROM you've made an image from needs to support MultiSystem in some way. With my current findings, I haven't found a good use for this yet (since I couldn't boot that 2nd image which was created from a 2nd custom ROM).

Samsung now bootloader locking Spreadtrum devices?

I think this has now happened to the Galaxy tab a Sm-t280 which is a spreadtrum sc8830 device.
I have tried everything I know to root or get custom recovery on this device. I have built root and custom recovery for a Spreadtrum sc8830 device before just fine.
However everything I flash on the Sm-t280 displays the *Secure check fail: recovery* warning.
Even stock repacked boot and recovery images don't work. So safe to say I think it's a locked bootloader?
Can anyone confirm my suspicions?
I have rooted and built custom recovery's for many new devices, but this one has me beat.*

Hi, ashyx thanks for your work!
If you want I can test also on my sm-t280
The bootloader is locked. You can't flash anything not signed by Samsung. More devices are coming locked like this.

It seems so, if Samsung carry on this way I for one will not buy another of their products.
I will never buy a bootloader locked device. They should at least offer the option to unlock it like HTC.

With security being such a huge factor these days. Alot of devices are coming with locked bootloader that can't be unlocked. Mainly Samsung who is near the top when it comes to secure devices. It's what they are shooting for.
Yeh you would think that's great for corporate use, but it's not.
In fact it is a company who contacted me via XDA who sent me this tablet to root it and build a custom recovery for it as they need to modify it for their specific use.
They were going to buy 50 of these devices once I had completed the work.
However obviously that's not possible, so looks like they may have to look at a different device.

Subject: Galaxy Tab A 6(2016) SM-T280(UK model) Locked bootloader
Hi I am a developer, I have been given the task of customising the software for this device by a company who wish to purchase 50 of these devices for a specific use. The modifications needed require the device to be rooted. However it seems this device has a locked Bootloader as any unsigned software flashed to the device returns a *SECURE CHECK FAIL: RECOVERY* warning even with OEM UNLOCKING enabled in developer settings.
Could you confirm as soon as possible if this device has a locked Bootloader, so I can cease working on the device and inform the company I am working for?
Many thanks for your help.

TWRP and Root?

What are the chances that this device will get TWRP and Root?
Not that I know... But this seems to be the best android tablet around now considering the price. Furthermore, its born with Android 8, which means it will be treple enabled thus the adaption of vanilla Android or others should be easier. Likewise, this should also improve security patches. I hope that someone will bring it.
Any progress of Rooting the HUAWEI MediaPad M5?
I want to buy it cuz my old Pixel C is sadly broken, but I wanna wait till it gots Root and Custom ROM:
@Marcopoloy13 I am in a similar situation as I would like to retire my old Nexus 7 (2012) and I am quite optimistic that TWRP will be available quite soon, as there is a device tree for the Honor 9 available and the Mediapad M5 sports the same SoC ...
As I am receiving my Huawei Mediapad M5 PRO next week, I wanted to look for root ... Is Huawei known to make a fuzz about root in case of sending it in for repairs etc. (I have a Samsung-past, friends of mine had issues with their support due to root ... ) ?
I am very new to Rooting, i just want to get linux deploy on this tab to install Debian. I have unlocked the bootloader the rooting is very hard.... i have no clue to what i am doing and was following the guide on this awesome forum but the imaging and so forth is not somthing i understand.
i have the CMR-w09 (non pro)
Unlock the bootloader?
How did you unlock the bootloader? I tried the “Huawei unlocking page" mentioned at Kingoapps website, but it didn't find anything about unlocking or bootloaders.

For any WIFI only device, contact Huwaei via Phone (they rarely answer mails, so dont write one), explain the problem using their site (WIFI only device, therefore no IMEI etc), provide them your tablets serial number and let them send the unlock code via mail to you. Takes usually two business days until you have the unlock code.

XCover Oreo 8.1 ROOT
My XCover 4 updated to Oreo 8.1. I'm so sorry that I didn't stop the upgrades from the stock Nougat ROM.
As far as I read Oreo updated the bootloader to version 2 and it doesn't allow downgrades via Odin back to Nougat. I wanted to flash a Baltic Nougat version of the ROM so that I could run a CF-Auto-Root for the ROM that I found in a tutorial online.
I also tried to get TWRP installed with an xcover4 image from TWRP Builder, but I doubt the bootloader version is the same and my phone doesn't even show up when I run "fastboot devices" when in bootloader mode. It shows up in "adb devices".
My main reason for rooting the phone is so that I can get call recording enabled.
