[Q] Google Maps Android API, missing? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This has been bothering me lately. When I open my Instagram (using xperia ray latest Gingerbread stock ROM), and go to "Photo Maps", a dialog box appears saying "Photo Maps requires that the Google Maps Android API is installed on your device
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both Google Maps and Instagram, I restarted my device too. But it doesnt solve the problem.
I tried checking /system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar , I thought I lost this file but the file is there..
This is a rare problem and I only found 2 search results on Google about this problem, and both were found on XDA forum. One had his problem solved by placing this .jar file there. The other one tried placing the .jar file but no luck.
It's bothering me. Because I think it will affect other application that uses google maps. But I'm not sure. And I don't want to reinstall the whole ROM because I have partitioned my SD card, put many stuff in it, I dont want to start it all over just because of this small problem.
Thank you very much in advanced.

I am having the same problem, but it has caused me to realize that I cannot download most things that have a main function that utilises the gmaps API... I'm running a CM9 fork, though, so I expect that to be the cause. Furthermore, I tried to replace the files and gapps installation through recovery, it yields no changes. I see no new files, which is odd imo... Placing the JAR through a file manager and rebooting doesn't change anything for me either. Would love a followup because I too have seen the threads Fun is talking about but I have also seen at least a dozen on here that have gone unanswered

yes. Someone has to got to have the solution. So bump.

bump... i guess? I havent been able to fix this. Althoug a simple flash will fix this, I'm curious that we can fix this.

Still having this issue myself.
Running CM10.1 on my Galaxy SII (i9100P), although its not just with my current ROM that I'm having the issue. Tried refladhing ROMs and GAPPS but no joy. Countless data/cache wipes have done notjing to fix it. Also tried the.jar solution but did nothing.
Really annoys me that I can't find a solution.
No one any ideas on what this could be?

Please Help

I am running Vegen 5.1, I did the market fix, Everything was working fine.
I tried to buy bejeweled, and for some reason it would not download, It kept saying the download is starting, and it would show the downloading arrow in the notifications for about 3 seconds, then disappear, and nothing downloads.
Now I have tried to download different apps, and nothing will download?
I have ran thru the market fix steps 2 times again now, and that does not work.
Please can someone help me?
Common issue tonight....dont panic. I am guessing it relates to Googles conference Wednesday. Perhaps they are doing something. I had the issue...rebooted and was able to download the app I couldnt previously.

Sounds like issue with your SD partition. You will need to repartition your internal to 2048/0. This is documented on the first post of the Vegan thread.
Well, I tried to do some stuff, and now I am stuck in bootloop.
On market Help from google, it said to go the mangae Apps Markey, and uninstall update.
So I did that.
Then I rebooted.
Then I did Market Fix steps.
Then I rebooted, now all it does is continue to boot.
Anyone? Please?
what im so lost
best actionis to install sgs tools apk. Apply script, market fix
Ok, I did the partition.
Now it boots back up, however everything looks like I just did a factoy reset, and things still don't download.
Where do I find sgs tools apk. Apply script, market fix
Market is having issues for ever device, including market supported phones...randomly tonight. Possible cause = Google conference tomorrow and possible market enhancements being announced.

I see, so I created a bunch of work for myself in the name of learning.
I bascially just started ever with the reinstalling of the rom.
On the plus side, when you learn the most is when things go wrong. And I feel your pain - I had to reload everything from a bootloop as well

Fix
I had the same problem last night. I got it to download by going into settings/applications/system applications and clearing the data in the download manager. I had to do it for every download. BTW It seems to be working fine this morning.
...in the same boat

Hi all,
I didn't want to start a new thread but I hope someone sees this one as the main title is not descriptive at all.
I got my new gtablet three days ago (not a woot) and have been trying different roms (TNT 4.3.1 / Vegan 5.1) with no luck in the android market. As in the first topic, I tried the fixes for the market, clearing cache, data, even re-partitioning to make sure partition was 2048 | 0, turning off firewall in my router... EVERYTHING! I can see all the applications but as soon as I click to install it keeps in "starting downloading..." and could be there for hours without downloading a single bit.
Early in this topic the speculation was a google conference taking place but... that was February! Is anybody experimenting the same (frustration, haha)? How can I identify where the problem could be?
Thanks in advanece!

I'm right there with you and have yet to find a solution. It's quite frustrating.

[Q] Weird Problems with Intrating Flash 11

I'm sorry if I stuck this in the wrong place. I'm not actually developing a ROM for consumption; I'm just customizing what I have a bit so this seemed like the best place.
I'm clearly doing something wrong. I just need help figuring out what that is and how to fix it.
I've tried integrating the latest build of "Flash" into my ROM several different ways. Everything I've tried failed in exactly the same way. Classic animations like games and things work fine, but encoded movies do not work. (The movies on YouTube don't work.) A simple version check shows that there was no change in the version.
I am rooted. I have a terminal emulator and a file browser installed. I have `adb'/`fastboot' ready to go. I have managed to integrate many other bits and remove many others simply enough following the various tutorials here at XDA.
I grabbed the latest update and tried to integrate it manually the way I did in the past on my Sensation by simply copying the relevant APK and SO to the relevant directories. (Copying the file `libflashplayer.so' to `/system/lib' for example.)
I tried using a script from these forums. It didn't work. It wasn't written specifically for the Flyer. That might have been the problem. I don't know what all HTC does to "Android".
I also tried using the "Convert to System App" feature of "Titanium Backup". It didn't work and after used "Titanium Backup" to revert the APK as a normal user installation movies stopped working. (Movies work fine until I try integrating it when I install the APK normally from my computer.)
I think this matters, but I'm not entirely sure. Anyway, I did restart after each attempt to integrate the APK/SO. I've also tried clearing the cache with "CWR" after an attempt to integrate.
I've been rooted for a while now on my Sensation and View. (I also have a rooted Flyer.)
Sorry if I've managed to overshoot in the "include relevant information" category.
Cheers,
Soma

[Q] "Download Unsuccessful"

I remember having this issue since ICS and on multiple devices running different ROMs.
What gives? I know the solution is to clear out the Download history and it still works. Just annoying that I have to do that... Does Google know about this issue??
You can also try using a browser like Opera, that helps me. But yeah it really is annoying it also happens to me both on GB and ICS

To be able to download certain files, you must first have an application that can run the file. If you don't have the ablity to run the file it will refuse to download, giving the download unsuccessful message.
What you say may be true. But the files I download are definitely openable. Yet they still don't download successfully until after multiple attempts or clearing the cache.

Hello everyone -- First post
I don't know if this will help, but i tell you what i experienced yesterday. I have both a HP Touchpad 32GB Wifi only and a Samsung Fascinate. I have the problem with both of them for months now. I can install anything i want from Google Play, but can not down load any other files, both from emails and websites. I can write to it with Window XP Pro machine.
Two days ago i was messing around with my Touchpad dual boot WebOS/CM7 and wreck it. Wouldn't reboot, couldn't run WebOS doctor on it or any thing. I thought it was bricked. Then i ran across a forum how to delete the volume manually and recreate them. Then install back to factory original.
Last night i got it back to 3.0.5 and installed CM9 tenderloin nightly 20121028 dual boot. First think i did was go to a website to down load a PDF file to see if this fix my download problem. File downloaded, i tried opening it, said no file associate. Jump into Google Market , installed reader, open the file, no problem. I started checking with ROM Manager for any nightly updates. There was one and i started downloading it, and moved on to installing Titanium Backup plus Root. Few minutes after dubbing around, checking CM9.I noticed that it had a download error. SO i jumped on to another website to download another file. Immediately <Untitled> Download Unsuccessful. Here we go again. Switch over to Google Market, Titanium Backup plus Root finished installing.
I remove it and root. Check to see if it fixed the problem. NOPE! still no downloading. This morning at work during break, I wiped CM9 out with ACMEUnistaller, and started over. Same install as before. No problem downloading any files so far, but i have not reinstalled Titanium Backup plus Root. I will install it tonight just to be sure and redo my Samsung Fascinate to see if i can reproduces the same results there with CM10.
Can someone else that is having the same problem confirm with their system and see if they get same result?
Not so
Sorry guys, I just reinstalled Titanium Backup plus and can not repeat it. I'll keep checking with everything that I install and any settings I change
You may have better luck with the Touchpad forum.

Its not just my touchpad that is having the same issue. My Samsung fascinate have the issue and it has CM10 nightly. I've search many forum site for this problem. There are many other that are having the issue with all different devices and ROM's. I
I'm currently trying to repeat on touchpad because if i mess this unit up it won't be a big deal for me. I have got it down 25 minutes or ever less removing the CM and reload it. Not so fast for me on the Samsung. So far unsuccessful repeating it. Going to try repairing Fascinate and on it.
You think this should be moved to another thread? If so please let me know.
Thanks in advance
FYI, if you change the name of the original Download folder to, say Download_old, then try the download again, it will create a new folder and download to that one. weirdly, the folder permissions are exactly the same for both folders after (rwxrwxr-x)

[Q] Play Store/Installation Error Code -24

I am wondering if anyone else has had problems installing programs from the Play Store and getting error code -24?
I figured out an annoying fix after trying to wipe davl, data, etc., to no avail...
I have to download and install Root Explorer (which thankfully didn't give me the error message), then I had to delete individual program folders that persisted even after a full wipe of the devise. I deleted these files from the /Data/Data folder which contains hundreds of these folders.
Does anyone have a better way to permanently delete these files rather than going in an removing them one at a time?
I've had this problem both on Stock Rooted NC5 and on Galaxy Note fre3 Hybrid De[Odex] v2.14 -BeastMode Kernel

It's happened to me a couple of times in the last few weeks... Typically happens when I click through on the computer to install the app on my phone. When this happens, if I try again, but from the phone play store, it didn't happen. I don't know why that worked, but it did for the few times I've gotten the error.
I also found this thread, where they talk about common play store error codes. It gives the same solution you had, and they attribute it to the ART, which fre3 doesn't have (although, they have added ART support for future implementation).
I hope more information comes to light about this.

[Q] Installing Duplicate Skype / Multiple Instances Skype

Before you say it, YES, I've looked at the many other threads in this forum, stockoverflow, and other sites, all explaining the process of how you have to decompile the application APK file and change the package name in the manifest, then sign and install onto your phone. I was able to successfully do it on another application (application wouldn't run but it installed at least XD), but, I can't seem to get it to work on the Skype application. When I try to install the APK of my modified versions, the install just fails, with no error message to go off. I've tried on the latest version as of today, and I simply can't get it to work at all.
Is there anyone who has tried doing this already with Skype and had success? (If so, share your apk!)
Is there a reason why Skype specifically doesn't work? Or am I missing something?
I'd really appreciate feedback on this, I've ripped my hair out all day trying to do this and it just won't work. If anyone has anything which might help I'd greatly appreciate it. I simply wish to run 2 (or more would better) instances of the Skype application at once.
Hi, did you eventually manage to get 2 logins running concurrently? If you did, kindly share the solution. Thanks!
