Kernel and ram - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Need some help here.. I am currently on omega v35 with doggly theme and using persus kernel v29.2. My battery is draining very fast. Even on idle for 30minutes, it drop 2%. Is it because of the theme or setting for the kernel?
I had tried flashing back to stock and siyah but the drainage is even worst. Can anyone help me with this? Are there some setting sample for the tweaks which I can follow on? My ram usage is always constant at 700mb, are there any way to reduce it? Basically, I am using my phone for movie and some gaming like slotomania..
Hope to hear from you guys soon with some advice for me.. thanks.

Note that the drain might not real drain but caused by the need for the battery to recalibrate itself after some time.
Usually a full and uninterrupted charge-decharge-charge cycles solves those issues.
Please attach a _full_ and root-enabled log of betterbatterystats (free Version here on XDA) over at least 2-3 hours.
Also include a screenshot of the Android-integrated battery stats in fullscreen mode (without the app listing below)
That should be sufficient data to find the culprit

Dalvik always caches apps you opened in the past in the background and keeps them in a semi-frozen state (no CPU access but still in memory).
The reason is simple: it does not cost any power (RAM always costs the same, regardless of content) and it allows you to multitask between multiple apps.
Should an active app need more RAM it will automatically remove those old apps from cache.
In anutshell; simply don't care. Except if you have some apps that lock themselves in RAM and cause lags but that's not an issue of Android but rather the app itself.

hi
Just wanna ask.. is perseus 29.2 compatible with Omega v35? TiA

Thanks for the advice. So far, the kernel is not giving me any other problem except for the battery issue.

Autokiller settings?

Hi everybody, as I have updated my phone to 2.1, I find it a bit laggy. I'm asking for your help to improve performances and get it smoothier.
Can anyone tell me which are the best settings for Autokiller to gain speed and improve battery life? I didn't found something obvious and really need to get it smoothier.
Regards.
Sent from my rooted 2.1 X10i using XDA App
Also on this - I use TaskPanel - whenever I do a Kill All - it kills the SIM Card and restarts GSM services.
Anyone else seen this?
Otherwise I have the usual set to AutoKill - ignoring anything to do with Clocks, SetCPU, Widgets & Live Wallpaper.
Seems to kill a good 100+mb every time I press it.
edit: hope thats not a hijack
Maybe should you add stckappservice + datatrafixexcepmms + bluetoothheadsetservice processes to your ignore list. (Backupandrestore too)
OK so with ATK I'm always around 160 mb free Memory and many processes come back wathever I do : useragentprovider + custmizationprovider, etc...
Have someone a list of processes which are safe to uninstall and some settings for Autokiller? I really need to get faster and than it was on 1.6.
Regards.

I've not bothered installing one on 2.1 and found no reason to. The battery life has been significantly increased and although it started off a bit laggy it's smoothed it's self out now.
The following tools really help:
System Panel - monitor what drains battery/cpu time and then decide to throw that app out.
SetCPU - Just make sure to not restrain the cpu too much in hopes of saving that last percent of batt-life, it makes the system lag (ie. lowest while screen off makes the lock-screen/call-screen when turning it back on lag)
Autostarts - control what starts up on events (ie. Startup, battery power level change, etc) helps keep a lot of stuff from unnecessarily checking whether they need to do something.
AutoKiller Memory - Set a Ram-Profile in there. It'll kill tasks that aren't visible/high priority in case the ram gets too low/some other app needs the ram.
Good advise would also be: Don't use Task-Killers whenever you can avoid it. If an app drains too much battery: look for an alternative.
Killing all kinds of apps can do one of two things: either they start up automatically again or they start up on demand again. In both cases a well-coded app that doesn't suck batteries dry will use more batt re-starting and loading everything back into ram than it would if it just stayed there idle. And it'll remove lag by a lot.
Ram is getting powered either way. Use the ram you have. Mine's running constantly below 60MiB of free Ram (usually around 50) and it doesn't experience any lag.
What you also might want to look into is removing useless stuff that SE installed that'll just suck cpu-cycles every chance it gets.
Mine is silky smooth, but I have removed all crapware like moxier, quadrapop, all the Asian language keyboards, wisepilot. Etc. Now its very lean and fast

I think they were more essential in older versions such as 1.6.
Advanced Task Manager.
Kill process every 30 min (differt setting possible)
U can choose task that don't want kill (exclude list)
Works perfectly.
I confirm lag on my 2.1 Xperia. Better some minutes after boot. Why?
Only a Q. Is it just possible to root the 2.1 version?

Yes you will need to root to remove some apps.
i have root 2.1 but how do i remove apps?
can i do it on the phone or do i need to use adb on my pc?
I don't know why mine is laggy : I've uninstalled useless apps, I've tried many settings for Autokiller, and I don't kill processes which always come back.
I've noticed that my apps are not laggy, only Homescreen. I use ADW Launcher, anyone else noticed its Homescreen latency?

You need to use titaniumbackup. Ensure you to enable chuck norris mod if you want to remove pre~loaded apps.
Edit : be careful, many apps mustn't be removed.

thanks for the explination
Edit : all work fine now. I just set setcpu minimum scale to 384 and max to 752.It doesn't lag anymore. I'm gonna analyze battery life with these settings and report them.

By Doing this On AOKP B40 and R2AOKP.img Kernel I Got Very Good Battery Life. Deep Sleep Is Working Without Any Glitch.
That means you have pointed some apps that may cause battery drain or prevent the phone from going in deep sleep. Better tell that to @kormatoes. Maybe he can fix it.
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium
Ok. Thanks! I'll Inform Korm!
My views as I stand
Deep sleep no problem
Battery over one day
Theses apps you suggest
Pointless for me I use talk always
Media I need to download files
All day
personally I think you should mount and format system
And reflash a ROM
I get over one day out the rom & kernel so it's not something that needs addressing sirkay knows what he is doing with kernels compared to 8 hours from a boot that were are meant to use
Basically it's like this if you flash a new rom ,it will take 2 days to settle in and if I bring out a update in a few days ,it's a cycle of not enough time to settle down and just because you have this it don't mean I have your problem ,
My only wake lock is alarm
when we get to a perfect build I will stop and just start to work on the better things themes,ui,
There is many alternatives to aokp now try a stock based ROM if your after a perfect ROM,
But even stock I'd not perfect is it,less ,crap ui, Sony boat

I completely Understand what you're saying. And Yes you are right and i know that because i have these probs doesnt mean you also got these. i'm just saying before these "freezing" things i lose 75% battery overnight (flight mode) which is worst in my opinion (5-10% is acceptable). so by freezing/uninstalling these its only 2-5% overnight. and thanks i will definitely mount and format system And reflash rom. All This Is just To Inform all AOKP users!
Edit: "mount and format system And reflash rom" Done Still No Change. but thanks, a slight improvement in stability and battery.

By Freezing/Uninstalling apps given in the 1st post, i'm also losing only 3-4%. maybe its because of the kernel, i'm using r2aokp.img by sirkay (BB72).

Did you let the ROM settle for some time? I can confirm that these ate my battery too. But after letting the ROM settle for two days, and re calibrating the battery, NO BATTERY DRAIN.

Battery Drainage Problem

I have a pretty bad battery drainage problem. Multidp and 12_hsic wakelocks are prevalent. The most noticeable is the Phone app waking up the most.
Steps I've taken to combat the High battery drainage
Disabled Fast Dormancy
Greenified Facebook, Playstore, PlayBooks and Keep
All but contacts and chrome are checked under the autosync settings
Even tried apps like Juice Defender, but the battery drainage increased to a whole new level; deleted the app
Installed a custom kernel. Undervolted by -50mv
ROM: CrDroid
Kernel: Temasek Kernel
P.S Tried the BetterBatteryStats thread, but no one did help me there. :/ Hope I solve my problem here. Attached the idle dump.
Thanks in advance.

The Problem is The ROM , not the Phone.
Android 4.3 isn't optimized for S3 yet .
That causes Battery Drain Problems.
My Recommendation is that you search another 4.3 ROM or Downgrade to 4.2.2 or lower.
Previous post is wrong.
Your two first kernel wakelocks mean network use. Search for background sync apps, check Wi-Fi advanced settings and disable Google constant search.
Greenify all apps, except the vital ones for your usage. With paid app and xposed framework you can even freeze push message ones.
All this can be found in a couple of minutes with Google.
Some can achieve .2 %/hour in deep sleep with 4.3.
The Rom is not the culprit.
You wont get good battery life on IDLE on AOKP, AOSP or CM ROMs. No matter what you do. battery life is ok while the phone is awake but when it is in deepsleep still it consumes the battery on AOKP, AOSP or CM ROMs.

Yes i know AOSP,AOPK & CM don't have as good an idle drain as the touchwiz ROMs, but in my case we do know the reason. So it has to some other reason

Already had Google constant search disabled. And 4.3 is not xposed framework compatible. So can't use that.

I use xposed framework... It's compatible.
2.1.4 apk framework works well. Some people need to use SuperSu instead of super user, you can put it with a file explorer in system/app, then reboot and run, there is even a cwm zip somewhere to flash the framework directly.

Yes I know it's just 1.1% but you gotta see that this is just an idle drain. When I start using the phone on day to day basis, it doesn't even last the whole evening let alone the whole day. I'm down to 20% by mid afternoon when i unplug my phone at 8 A.M. .
Whereas when I was on stock, as the people above have said, my battery drain was around .4% and the phone used to last around a day and a half with moderate usage. Yes I know that I can never have that good a battery, but atleast I should be able to eliminate most of the wakelocks with this ROM. But the typical methods like disabling FD, greenifying apps etc etc don't seem to work.

Xperia Go Stock JB battery drains fast....!!!

Hello!
I know its a common problem for everyone. But I think my problem is quite a bit more. It drains fast even if I don't use my phone. One thing is my 3G is on 24/7. But I saw people with some other roms who open the data traffic for 24/7, bt still get 1.5 days service from battery.
My Xperia Go really drains so fast.I uploaded some screenshots. The first two photos, i uploaded the app use right after charging my mobile & in the next pair of photos are next mornings'. In between i just make a call for 10 min. Nothing else. Now say what should I do?
btw, i found just non-system apps like facebook, messenger & whatsapp which might drain some extra battery. Otherwise I have no other major apps non-system apps. I JUST WANT TO RUN MY XPERIA GO FOR AT LEAST ONE DAY WITH A FULL CHARGE
My Phone: Xperia Go rooted with doomlord kit version 14
Build number: 6.2.A.1.100
Kernel version: 3.0.8+ (I think its the stock kernel)
My pc operating system: Windows 8
Is there any better rom for me with pretty much less bugs?

I did follow some steps:
Step 1:
1. First You go Settings--->APPS--->All Tab---->ECO Mode Controller/ Extended battery mode (Click Clear Data and Force Stop)
2. Then Again you Go Settings--->APPS--->All Tab---Setting.apk (Click Clear Data and Force Stop)
3. Charge Your Mobile 4 to 5Hours
4. After 4-5 Hours While Charging That Time You Click Vol Up+Power Button( after 3 times Vibrate)
5. Remove Your Charger and Again Plugin Your Mobile The Sony Logo With Comes And Charging Logo has been Shown
6. Then Power On Your Mobile While Charging
7. Then Go Setting--->Power Management TURN ON BATTERY STAMINA MODE.
8. Then see the battery state.
Step 2:
As ur phone is rooted like me, install Greenify app & add those app works in background even if u don't use the phone. May be Greenify will stop them.
Step 3:
In power mangement, press the stamina mode & exactly add apps like which u did in grennify. In my case Facebook, Facebook Messneger & Whatsapp were the most dangerous app. So i added those.
Step 4:
Use app2sd card software & transfer app from phone memory to sd card. It mau help a liitle.
after these steps i get some little improvement
Note: There's always some bug in other roms. That's why i didn't install any
hey thanks for replying ...
I was using ALL THE PROCEDURES THAT U ALREADY MENTIONED...
BUT I THINK ITS A BATTERY ISSUE...I HAVE BEEN USING IT SINCE ONE AND HALF YEAR OR SO..
EVEN SOME BATTERY APPS SHOW THAT IT CAN SAVE ONLY BATTERY WHICH LONGS FOR 1HR OR SO WHERE IT IS SUPPOSED TO SAVE FOR A 5 HR TALK TIME
U CAN USE " No Bloat Free" to disable system apps if u dont want to use...:cyclops:
I am gonna replace the battery i guess..
Sony ericsson is not providing a battery replacement , they are asking for warranty and all which is expired in my case..
Anyways Thank YOu..
Well try factory format its work for me
also always charge your fon atleast more than 55%

I'm having trouble with the same phone but different rom. I'm running CM11 on my GO and battery lasts about 7-8 hours. This is with some maps usage, 10 minute calls, 10 viber messages and some surfing using Firefox. I've greenified everything including Viber & Whatsapp. I also got Juicedefender turning 3g off when screen is off and turning it on briefly every 15 minutes. Clean master is also running in the background because I have to keep clearing ram.
Edit: oh, and I got No frills cpu control set to 200/800mhz Interactive/Noop
Going back to stock rom might help but then Viber "effs" things up and dialer starts lagging.
Any other tips? This piece of crap phone has been nothing but trouble since the beginning.

It's the screen that drains most of it, how long has it been on?
And it is weird because it doesn't show to be awake when screen is on which usually is the other way (awake with screen off).
Check CM thread to see if it's a known/fixed bug.
I updated to the latest CM11 and things are a bit better now... I'm getting about one days use. Which still isn't much considering most of the apps are greenified. Anyway.....
edit: and I've tried to keep the screen brightness at constant ~25-30%.

Battery Draining Very High When Phone is Idle

Hello Guys,
My rn3pro battery drainage is very high, it consume 20% of battery overnight. I have been having these problem from few days. I am just ignoring it, but the problem really irritates when you fully charged your phone and after using leave it on 80% and at the morning you found 60% and with open data it 58% i mean 2-3% difference. First i get this problem on miui 6.12.+ And then i use 7.1 rr unofficial and official both give me this problem and then because of no xposed i revert back to miui and now evey ver of miui has this problem, high battery drainage overnight. Then i think flashing kernel would help, so i flashed radon latest but nothing helps.
So, guys pls help me and this is happening from past few days and i have been using rn3 pro from 6 months neverhave that kind of problem. Never get the need to use apps like greenify, and when i checked battery status it shows android system and android as the culprit, but why now, why not before or from 6 months ago when i bought it. I am really irritated.
Anyone.......guys?

Never get the need to use apps like greenify, and when i checked battery status it shows android system and android as the culprit, but why now, why not before or from 6 months ago when i bought it. I am really irritated.

First of all try to find a reason why battery is draining. if you are experiencing drain on every rom then there might be a common personal app you used on all of them. If you are rooted then download "better battery stats" app and leave it for over night, it will tell you which app or wake lock is draining battery , for better understanding post screens of battery usage so that we could analyze it further. One thing is sure it must be a downloaded app, sucking battery overnight.
Also there are various settings to overcome battery usage of heavy apps such as google services. always deny location permission of app in privacy / permission settings. it will save atleast 15-20 % of total battery usage. further control autostart on apps like uc browser, clock , calendar as they too start in background and suck power,(p.s. uc browser is worst)
regards

Thanks bro, now installed the app, will post the ss at morning.
Now can you pls tell me whats draining the battery?
Because uc browser never before drained so much. Any solution without installing apps like greenify or naptime.

It's clearly seen that UcBrowser eat your battery. 2.5/hr is good though, and something was downloading about 1.3 hr in Uc thats why it was running in background. If you are using xposed then go for greenify, It is very effective. Other way is, as you are on custom rom, I would suggest you to try custom kernel if you want more battery backup (I am on rr-N and radon kernel, getting around 10 hrs SOT).

You dont understand bro (i know you do) but the thing is it never happened before and i always use uc browser. Last night when i installed this app i am downloading something and i fell asleep when i woke up in middle of the night then i close my data connection. But as i said before i am on miui 6.12.xx using radol kernel latest (i think it is 3.7), why uc browser is eating battery why not before is something wrong with the hardware or restoring backup from titanium cause it or anything else, the reason why this happening now. Bro in deep sleep i never lose more than 3% of battery power in whole night and now this percentage increased upto 10 times. And i always use uc browser, because of its downloading and site view. But it never sucked that kind of battery before after putting it on download al the night and miui force closes apps itself. And not only miui it happened on every custom rom i installed now a days.

So you had restored titanium backup of nougat to marshmallow or vice-versa? Some time it cause app crashing and many problems. Just try clean flash custom rom and select battery config in aroma installer of radon kernel. Then see if problem still persist. Or just donot restore titanium backup and clean install UC and see how mush it help. (Same to me, my CM13 Apps backup caused many problems in RR-N so after clean flash all well right now)

Thats what came to my mind. I am thinking restoring titanium backup causing uc or may be other apps to suck battery. Because it all started when i start restoring titanium backup. Now i will clean flash the rom. But one thing i wanted to know, does restoring only data from titanium will cause the same results?

Never tried this, but that should not cause any problems as in my case when I restored whole backup and faced app crashing problems was due to installed apk.

Clean flashed the phone at night, after putting alarm the battery reduces hardly 2-3% in whole night. But after installing uc battery started to increase faster and i love uc browser cant uninstall it.
no one is asking you to uninstall uc browser bro
download greenify and hibernate all apps before you go to sleep and go to security->permission->autostart and check that uc browser is not enabled
i am sure this will solve ur battery draining problem
Install fastboot rom latest beta and use it for 2 day and set it up... And then check
Guys i think i catched the culprit. There is an app in my phone named easydpichanger i use it to change my display dpi. When i got 7.x in my phone i changed it dpi to smallest i.e 336 and in miui used it on 330, and when i change it to 400 it stops eating battery (as default dpi is 480 which is way larger on a big screen). Now i am getting good battery backup
Thanks everybody.
Why do you use app for changing dpi?
Why not change in build.prop?
360dpi is HD , 480 is stock FHD

Bro why should i mess up with build.prop when i can do it with just single click
Use easydpichanger
Bro why would you need app for that if you can do that in build.prop...you are just wasting space + dpi changer is not as effective
Just add last line ro.sf.lcd_density=
