[Q] How to install large games like Gta Vice City, Asphalt 7 - HTC Desire X

Hey everyone
I am new to XDA and android.
I have HTC Desire SV with most of the features common with HTC desire x. just wanted to know i have around 1.11 GB of internal storage and 1.10 GB of phone storage.
Heavy applications like GTA vicecite have 13 mb of APK and then 900 mb of data. My doubt is will this data be stored in phone memory? or we can somehow shift it to external card. Also can anyone tell how to download and install such kind of games for free. i have data files and APK just wanted to know how to install in external SD card and not phone storage/internal storage.
I know it is a noob's question but please help

Install apk in phone memory, tand place data in required folder of sd card, which created after apk Installed.

Thanks for replying. the problem is that after installing apps the folder is created in phone storage's android folder and not in external sd card. HTC phone storage is just 1.09 GB out of which only 725 MB is available to me right now and 400MB is already used (attached the screen shot) the data for these games is more than 900MB. what to do? :crying:
Please help or give a tutorial i am new to android.

Does no good without rooting the phone. Any other solution just to copy the game data to external sd without rooting

A2SD isn't good for this device, it's meant for devices with less than 500 MB internal storage.

Try to create folders Android/data on your sd and then to install a game and see what will happen.

Not happen.............
plZ Help Me

Your issue is the size of your external memory, 1gigabyte is no where near enough for the games you mentioned
And as suggested above create the needed folders android/data & android/obb
If you have sd card then the data is automatically downloaded to sdcard

Hmm,that is wierd,i have 4 GB sd card and i have Shadowgun and Dead Space installed normaly by installin the apk and transfering data to Android/data/ folder.

I have nearly all of them hd games installed on my dx, all you gotta do is just place data in either android/data or /obb, & then install apk..

If you have a stock hTC rom on your DX , internal & external sdcards are swapped . That means the external SD card is mounted as the internal SD and you can safely place the game data on your external SD in Android/data or Android/obb (depending on the game ofc) and the game will run without any extra tweaks . I've tried NOVA 3 and it works without a problem .
However , if you have a custom rom that doesn't swap the storages , try using DirectoryBind . Never tried it on an hTC , but tried it on lots of Samsungs , LGs and Sonys and it works without a prob , so I don't see why it wouldn't work on our DX .
DirectoryBind is an app that can be used to mount folders from the external SD on the internal SD , to look as if the folders are actually situated on the internal memory . If you don't know how to use it , check out my tutorial over here .

Usually I hook up my phone to my computer. Under "My computer" it should have your cdrive and your phone. mine shows up "SGH-i717" and under that is my "card" and "phone" you can just move over pictures and movies from the phone to card. that should make some room for your phone. if this helped hit that thanks button
i know what u saying but i dont have any movies on phone. i only have games
If I understand your question then go to system settings, manage apps then click on the app and select move to Sd card.

you know that the phone recognize only the internal memory as Sd so even if i move it still moving to the phone memory not to my micro Sd card.

Same way with a few phones. The external SD is for media and such while internal is for apps and such. No real fix, but you can get titanium backup and backup all of them to your external, then uninstall the ones you're not using. Restore then when you want to use them. That's what I end up doing

We would need something like this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433436
Quote from the thread of what that does (I would actually like something like this for Note as my internal SD is practically full)
mattiadj said:
You have misunderstood something . The situation is simple. Transformer has a 16gb internal sd (in my case, I have 16gb version) and so this internal sd card of 16gb is used to store all my data! For apps in /data, apps storage in /sdcard/android/data and so on.
So if I install for example games like front line commando, gta 3, or gameloft games, shadowgun or something which needs extra resources to download, these apps download what they need into internal sd. And so the space in internal sd (which is the internal memory of tablet) became full quickly!! Why? Because the internal sd is viewed as sdcard and mounted in /sdcard and /mnt/sdcard and so is used as normal sd by apps! So transformer has a sdcard which is used both for apps installation and data storage!!! No nand or real internal memory!
External sd is used for nothing!!!
So why my script? This script is essential to fix this stupid behaviour!!
Your internal sd card is mounted to store all apps you wants and apps install on it only their apk files and necessary data. On external they stored all extra data resources and all they need!!!! On external! And internal is untouched!
So android info see this new situation in inverted way since in our transformer (and i think this is a big issue of Asus) what is mounted in /sdcard is considered as INTERNAL MEMORY and what is mounted in /Removable/MicroSD is viewed as EXTERNAL MEMORY.
Since this mod inverts mount point... The information in memory tab is inverted!
Let's now with an example.
If you install shadowgun game without my mod, it installs in you internal both game package (in /data) and 250mb of resource in /sdcard/Android/data/gamefolder.
So you have 300mb less in your INTERNAL SD!!
With my mod simply the 250 of extra resources are downloaded in you external sd!!! So you have 250mb save on internal sd to install other apps!!!!
I hope is all more clear now and is better understood how this mod is important!

Wait, to the OP:
Did you format the new SD card, then power the phone off, remove the card, pop it back in and then power up again?
If you don't format the card initially, the phone won't recognize it at all.
If that's not what you were getting at initially, then ignore this post.
-Ryan
Did we make any progress on this situation? Has anyone found a way to move apps to the external sd card. And let me point out to the few that have posted in this thread. When you move apps to the sd card through app manger or apps to sd they only move to the internal sd card.
I'd really like a fix for this as well. My 16GB MicroSD is going unused because of it. I don't store movies or music on my phone, I stream all that. But all the Internal SD memory is full because nothing recognizes that there's more than one "SD" storage space.
GET the free app called GLtoextSD or something like that name search on play store it i'll help you.(it requires root)

[Q] HTC Explorer applications in SD card

Dear Masters,
Need your help again.
I am using the application LINK2SD for transferring my applications to SD card. But what I see is, there is some memory still used from the phone memory even after moving that application.
So, I want to know what can be the reason for that and is there any way to move that data part to SD card?
Please do guide because as per me this is not making any sense in rooting the device as still my phone memory gets low.
Hope that solution gets resolved as always.
Chin2.
Sadly Link2SD cannot link app data, and so internal memory will still be taken up by this. The only way around it is to install JaggyRom (or else install a custom kernel with ext2/3/4 support and a data2SD script, but JaggyRom would be simpler I think) and use it's app2SD functionality instead of Link2SD.
There are various ways to move app data to SD, but they all seem to require the second partition on your SD card to be an ext partition, rather than a FAT partition, and ext partitions are not supported by the stock kernel. I have yet to come across any app or script which will move app data to a FAT formatted 2nd SD card partition.
Thanks
SifJar,
Thanks for your reply, I have already got JaggyRom in my HTC explorer and also downloaded APP2SD from play store, will this suffice? Or I need to add any Kernel or anything like that?
And what about the partitioning of SD card? can you put some light on that as I am a newbie to Android.
Thanks once again.
Chin2.
If you have JaggyRom, you don't need any app from Play Store. It comes with A2SDGUI preinstalled and has an apps2SD script already configured. All you need to do is create a second partition on your SD card. You need to connect your SD card to a computer (via a card reader, NOT your phone), get a partition manager (e.g. MiniTool Partition Wizard) and shrink your current FAT32 partition. Then make a new partition (not sure which is the best format, I think ext4, but ext2 and ext3 should work too) and make sure you also make this partition primary. (So both partitions will be primary). You'll want to make this partition reasonably large. Mine is about 700MB and I use about 500MB roughly with about 85 apps installed.
Once this is done, put it in your phone and start it. Then use A2SDGUI to move apps to SD card (don't move system apps, I don't think it will allow you to anyway), and I think it should automatically move any new apps you install in the future.

It is normal to have some kilobytes left there.I have a sensation and it always leaves some data on the phone and it isn't a lot.
The stock kernal can support ext2 partition so even without jaggyrom u can do it.

Get a program like app2sd pro or apptoSd.
Did you managed to make it work? You can try an app that is called GLtoSD.It allows you to move big gaming data to your external SD card. Root is required.

Moto E was launched by Flipkart in India only on 14th May, how can you use this for last 20 days ?
Regarding your querry, yes most of the application will be installed in internal memory. Please check from Settings > Device > Apps, whether the particular application shows "Move to SD card" option. I tried Tapatalk, can not be moved to SD card, but when I installed ES File explorer, I could move the application to SD card.

The data files placed in external sd card will not work, i can only run if u place data files in internal sd card...
And there are many third party apps like mount2sd, link2sd etc that make the data in external sd card but it requires root access!!
Foldermount from Play store does a good job in such cases of moving large obb game data to SD card.

Moving apps to SD card

As far as i know, in kitkat apps are restricted from accessing other folders in sd card. but they can read and write data to their own folders in SD card isn't it? so y am i unable to move all the data to sd card? like in asphalt or something, cant that app move the data to its own folder in the SD card?

Yeah that's not possible .Its how it is....only apk move to SD card not the app data. You shud just root and then use Folder mount
Low end phones are much better with root access

HELP.!!!!!!!
How can i move pre-installed apps to sd card??? My phone is rooted...
pre installed apps are usually placed in system folder
the updates of those apps can be moved to sd card using link2sd
in order to move the entire app to sd card, the system app should be converted to user app
heard about another app called folder mount with about the same usage, but personally haven't tried it yet
Movable with 4.4 api
0ok friends..i have read somewhere that app data can be moved if they are using the 4.4 api..
and i have installed frontline commando d day(mod)..its one single apk with the data, and it installed to sd card without using any internal memory.if anyone know how to make these apk please tell me or any games that are moving to sd card..fully...
plz inform.
