Home Button Not Working - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

For some reason on custom ROMS that I installed, AOKP and Liquid Smooth, the home button will not work. The other buttons work fine though. The home button works fine on stock though.

Check the QA threads for the roms you have flashed.
They will contain the info you need, including trouble shooting...g

Where are those threads? I've looked in the main thread of the ROMs and in this section and can not find them.

Anybody?

usually links to the QA threads are located in the first 5 posts of the rom's thread, if it isn't do a search on the thread to find it. Remember the devs have lots of good info in the first part of the threads, read them carefully. Also you can use the search function in QA to find it.

And of course,
Home button issues are a known problem with AOSP/AOKP jelly bean builds. It's a kernel problem, as we do not have source for jelly bean kernels on our device.
The latest cyanogenmod builds have worked around the issue for the most part.
Not sure on other builds, as I dont use them.....g

Download h0tcakez-JB-kernel-v2.3.5-alt. zip and then flash it just type it in Google and it will show up. Sorry for making this complicated.

Well probably not the ONLY fix. I've been running Paranoid android for as long as I can remember and I have not once had an issue with the home button. I can tell you I'm running kernel 3.0.49-cyanogenmod-gf67981c (the one that comes with the rom) and not one issue. Mind you I get the screen flashing where I have to disable HW overlays but that's more of a minor annoyance than anything else. but definitely give what wundaanda said a shot.

Just try it. My home and menu buttons didn't work and then someone told me to flash that kernel and it was fixed it only happened on JB ROMs

DAGr8 AOKP JB Preview Q&A

Not sure if any of you have run into this yet, but I am using Pocket Casts to listen to netcasts, when I shut off the screen everything keeps playing fine, however when I turn back on the screen the phone soft reboots. Does it at the same spot every time. I tried moving the netcasts to the sdcard instead of external sd as a test. Still does it...
This happens to me on both the Aug 8th and 9th build from DAGr8, But does not happen on any of the other JB previews builds. And Yes, I wiped everything
I use my phone in the car for netcast listening a ton, so this is something that keeps me from using this daily unfortunately.
Other than that, everything else seems to run great. just seems like an odd thing to reboot the phone, maybe it has something to do with the audio players and how they interact with the lock screen as they like to put up a player wallpaper thing on the lock screen...
Thanks for the Q&A!!
I can not get google now working. It hangs on initializing then cant connect. I know on jamies cm10hybrid/ jb we needed the internal kernel....DAGr8 Do you think that kernel would solve the prob? Im not sure if you use Gnow....or if you recommend using a diff kernel...( going to re read op now too)
Thank you so much for AOKP!

The hotwire-internal kernel should work fine with DAG's JB rom, not sure if it'll fix your issue or not, but should be easy to test. But I don't see a kernel package from DAG if you wanted to flash back...
I prefer the hotwire-internal kernel myself as it has BLN support where as the R5S1 included with this rom i think does not? if that's important to you...

Excellent observation! I would like to know this too. Ill just flash it anyway. What could go wrong? lol. Also sometimes the voice to text option doesnt connect. I think youre onto something here Rocket42.
I know we're not supposed to ask for ETA's and im not but does anyone know (in lamen's terms) the reason why camcorder doesnt work? Is it a compatibility issue cause JB is so new?

I think the issue is in the CM10 base - JB PA also has broken video at the moment.
Edit: I see JB PA dropped an update this morning and I didn't see reference to broken video on the OP. Maybe a matter of time? :fingers-crossed:

Loving the Aug 9th build except for a few issues (incl the Google Now referred to above) - the changelog states that "wake on volume" is built in but it neither works nor do I see a setting to turn it on like in other CM9/CM10. Do any of you have that?
On the kernel thing would we just flash the AOKP JB and then flash hotwire's internal.zip, then followed by JB Gapps?

I can't find that setting either.
As far as the flashing sequence, that should work although I did AOKP, JB GAPPS and just a few minutes ago flashed hotwire's internal. No issues to report.
I used to change kernels all the time on my Nexus, I would just flash the kernel whenever, no wiping. Can't hurt to wipe cache/dalvik, but no need to reflash the ROM.

Features and changelog?
I'm sure I will feel dumb when someone answers this but I could not find the feature list or changelog for JB. The AOKP site only references ICS milestone 6 as the latest. I tried following the links from the DEV thread and I tried a google search which led to rootzwiki but I didn't find anything for the Galaxy Note. I'd like to try this out but I'd first like to know what is/isn't working.
CPU Settings Do Not Stick
I have gone into the performance settings and I usually change my min frequency to 192 (max at 1566) and checked on "set on boot"- I have noticed that the frequencies do not stick at all but keep reverting to 384/1566 - does anyone else see this?

[REQ] Extremely lite TW ROM?

I have been skimming through the Android development and original android development forums in search of a TW-based ROM that is extremely lite, with everything but the bare necessities removed, but haven't been able to find one. I might have accidentally gone by it, but I cannot find any.
Do you know if such exists? I am not willing to go with AOSP just yet.
With extremely lite, I'm talking at the most 250mb ROM size, instead of TW's 1300mb.
Isn't HyperGalaxy TW based and very lite? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695562
I use it but I don't have TouchWiz on it, if I remember correctly though, that is because I removed it manually. I do believe it comes with TouchWiz as default. And all Samsung apps, no AOSP.
You can also remove even more stuff from it if you find it contains things you don't want. It weighs in at 226MB.
It's awesome. Chicks dig it.

No FM Radio on mine, but searched for the term in the thread and found this link to a flashable CWM zip that contains the radio app. https://www.dropbox.com/s/dcc9ibksklg85jx/Gallery_FMradio.zip
I don't know if it works or not, or if the FM Radio required libs have been removed from the ROM, and I don't want to try it since I hate radio with all my heart and will not succumb to even clicking an FM Radio icon once. I would have to sell my device after that since it would be forever tainted. :silly:
You should ask people in the HyperGalaxy thread!

New ROM, missing a couple of APKs

Hi Guys
I've just installed a new super lite ROM which seems pretty much perfect EXCEPT i'm missing two features of Samsung's "bloat"ware that I really like:
Blocking Mode
Stay Awake
I've tried Googling and failed miserably to locate these so, can anyone tell me where i can get these please? (Yes I know there are alternatives but i'd like to stay with apps I am happy with and that work for me)

There is no single perfect rom for everyone.. Everyone is different and has different needs or "cravings"
Thats also why there's so many custom roms out there, to fit your needs (sometimes) If you cant find one, go with stock or learn to make your own.

Flashed his 23 toggles & the boot menu and although I was able to boot still, SystemUI no longer ran. I had to flash back. Stock JB -- not Nun's deodexed.
And, yes, I see that the post says it's for deodexed only. But I figured I'd give it a shot. The thread also says it's for the Skyrocket.
Edit: I'm a glutton for punishment. I went back and flashed only the powermenu one, and all it managed to do was remove the ripples from my lockscreen. My power and reboot menus were still the same.

How did you know.. Lol!
OP should put the modem way down the post
I got mine working now.. Power menu, toggles, and I added battery icons from UOT Kitchen.

Thanks a bunch! I needed this. Works great on Nuns JB zip.
Official? So it works on official releases? Or it works on unofficial releases of the official release? Lol
This mod has a bug. Try opening something that does not have a default application.
It will show "Phone" and "Headphones" buttons
instead of
"Always" and "Just Once"
The problem here is the thread by the OP is for a different system that uses a different framework-res.apk than ours.

[Q] Disable shutter sound in stock rooted Sense 5?

Could someone point me in the right direction for disabling the camera shutter sounds on the new Sense 5 camera on the EVO LTE? On 4.0/4.1 I had a mod that created an option in the camera settings. I've searched high and low and haven't found anything specific to the new stock ROM.
I've unpacked the new Camera.apk and replaced all of the .ogg files with blank ones, then repacked and replaced the apk, but the app crashes as soon as I launch it. I've tried replacing it with a modded Camera.apk for another device (Droid DNA) but that didn't work for reasons that are probably obvious. I've also tried decompiling/recompiling it using APKtool but I get a Java FileNotFoundException every time I try to install a framework.
Any ideas?
