I think its fine to flash it that way, though, I prefer dd command via terminal. That's how I upgraded/installed XXLK7 Kernel with CWM from the older Kernel by Antsm...

Nice job bro . I'll try when download complete

ehi antsm, why don't you do a custom kernel with some tweaks like ex kernel?

Why to mod this kernel?
Some people prefer clean and unmodded solutions. We have hafidzduddin modded kernel and antsm unmodded. Why create 2 solutions that in the end will be the same?
Good job antsm!

Their kernels won't be the same. Its better to have 2 than 1. More choices, more customization, so everybody can choose what he wants.

Antsm please verify Wipe dalvik-cache option. I think it isn't working.
The wipe dalvik-cache option works if you previously mount /data.

Has someone version of kernel flashable through terminal?

just extract it like a ZIP and change filename to kernel.bin, then you could use dd command

where's the .md5 extension? its supposed to be kernel.bin.md5 right?
Sent from my GT-I8160 running Holo Bean Beta

nah, could be even kernel.poop or just kernel (without extension).
as i understand dd copies byte-by-byte (pipes) the input (in operand) so there's no matter what you call the input file 'cause it won't be a FILE on the endpoint (of operand) in our case
someone OUGHT TO correct me if i'm misleading people

[Q] CWM manager 3.0 NOT work in DD kernel, how to fix?

Updated to DD 1/30 kernel, works great! thanks Entropy512!
but I found CWM manager 3.0 can't work in DD kernel.
what I should do, can I uninstall CWM manager 3.0, or use other version to replace it ?
How did you get CWM 3.0? Flashing Entropy's DD should give you 5.XXX. What process did you use to root and get Entropy's DD on your phone?

He's talking about the app CWMManager 3.0 not the actual recovery.
OP, not sure why cwm manager isn't working. Yes you can uninstall it if you want and try reinstalling it and see if that helps.. or try another app similar. Or just use the actual recovery system to make and restore backups.
Oops yeah wipe cache and dalvik when you uninstall ..then try again!

I will try to reinstall app CWM manager 3.0, if still no work, I will uninstall it.
I thought CWM Manager did not work with Entropy's kernel in the first place, at least fully. This is what I get when I try to use it.

Is it fully functional? I mean flashing update.zip and so on? After pressing ok, I am only able to install APK, flash kernel (zImage only) and some reboot options (so I have to unzip it). If I flash Siyah kernel I get much more options, so I don't think it is anyhow Rom related (I am on Unnamed 1.3.2).
If so, can I have your cwm apk?

Someone mentioned this at some point in the DD thread - unless there is good documentation somewhere on what is required in terms of kernel support from CWM Manager, it isn't going to happen.
I suspect this isn't the case - CWM-related aspects of my kernel are based heavily on codeworkx's reference initramfs, and if codeworkx isn't able to get it right, the documentation must be ****ty on an epic scale.

I think the kernel has an old version of superuser so to get latest version you have to flash it separately.

You're welcome Rajeev;
I says before this method tested by me on c5303 and .245 Firmware and I recomended to flash supersuer.zip separately.
but this kernel does not automatically install supersuer app? Are you sure?
I've tested many ways and all of the root method and "supersu" to make the program very slow and very weak.
I tell you this because I tested it with superuser root, really better and much faster at startup supersu works.

Is this ok to dirty flash over 38r? Then I guess flash radio file afterwards?? Does supersu need to be unistalled first?
Is this F2FS compatible? Also can i restore the 'data' from my nandroid backup if i flash this?
Basically is it flashable over 38R or requires to be a clean install?
@Calkulin any chance of making it comoatible f2fs?

It can be flashed over 38R without wiping and just flash the radio files after flashing the ROM. As for SuperSU, if it's still there after flashing(because it was updated through the play store), then just uninstall it as it won't work due to the su binary being the CM version

I don't think the stock kernel is F2FS compatible but if you change the kernel and format the partitions accordingly, it should work just fine

All you need to do is change the updater script to format the system partition to F2FS while flashing the ROM and flash a kernel that supports F2FS & mounts the partitions as F2FS

Just did a factory reset and installed the ROM and radio. Upon boot up, I have no superuser at all.
Currently I'm reflashing the ROM after doing an advanced wipe with system, data, dalvik and cache to see if it fixes it.
Is this the right way to do it?
EDIT: Still no supersu. How do we get root working?

If you have a F460K I do it by holding volume down with power, then when you see the lg logo IMMEDIATELY let go of both and press and hold volume up with volume down. It takes some good (fast) timing but works.
I hear the F460S is volume up with power instead but can not confirm personally.
