SGS3 stock Charger Destroys usb cables? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After a month with my SGS3, It suddenly acts dodgy. It would charge horrendously slow.
Well, at first i thought it was my stock cables so I replaced them with a flat-cord Micro USB cable that I bought at the local market. It was fine for a week then bam!!!! My second cable starts to act dodgy too.......well NOW it FREAKED me out cause i thought it was probably my phone that has problems cause it won't connect to my pc. after plugging it back to the AC, My phone recognizes it as "USB" and it will only charge @ 450 mA which is painstakingly slow....
Need some people who are also experiencing this and how they solved it, if they had.
I am currently on CM 10.1 and also tried OMEGA 34 but the problem persists. THANKS
On a side note:
Can we have a proper explanation as to why this happens in the stock sgs3 charger?
Does heat has anything to do with it? Because my usb cables sure is hot after a charge..
Well whatever it is, I hope for someone to give us some insight regarding this problem.

yep its true !
i replaced my charger
try contacting SC.

Might do so

Can you recommend me a good charger that charges this phone as fast as the stock charger?
I might skip the try contacting SC part.
1. It's a hassle
2. The SC here in my country is F***ed up!
3. I am rooted and ther is no way I can return to stock because of Destroyed cables! the nerve!

Change charger and cable. I had same issue. Samsung should look on it.

Buy note II charger it has 5pins I bought one no issues with charging since then, iphone charger will also work.

I had some problems with stock charger as well, so I just replaced it with my old SGSI charger which works great!

stock charger also broke my usb cable supplied with the phone, been using my old sgs2 charger and usb cable and all is well!:good:

So with this many people having problems, Samsung should REALLY look into this as this is not a MINOR problem especially because THIS PHONE is a FLAGSHIP DEVICE. Mind them......this is bad for their reputation!

well u can try sony xperia's charger i also use my old xperia x10 charger.
works pretty well..

Strange thing is that I've never used the SIII charger. I upgraded from the SII and just kept using the charger from it, since it was already plugged in. Sometimes, laziness has it's benefits!

Well I'll be damned if I ain't Lazy!

Lucky you. My stock usb cables are pretty much nothing but fried copper wires covered with rubber or with some sort of material.
My second cable was murdered too !!!!!!!! (Damn you stock SGS3 charger!!!!)
I might learn a thing from you or two.

I have never used the charger that came with the phone I have always used HTC chargers they are very good and the build quality is good.

The SG3 charger has higher output than the SG2 one.

How did you checked that your phone is charging at 450mAh ?

Download Current widget from play store. It will allow you to monitor the current that your phone receives from the charger..

Charging issues.

I seem to be having some weird charging issues.
On the official samsung charger which came with the phone it won't charge at all. Plug it in and does nothing.
If I use the galaxy S III charger it charges very very slowly.
With the HTC charger it seems to charge like normal.
It's very weird and don't know how to troubleshoot this. There's no overvoltage errors with the battery and it works fine plugged into the computer. So I don't think the usb flex is faulty. I switched batteries with another SII and it's the same thing.
Then obviously get a new S2 charger.
Didn't you read. I've tried 3 different chargers

Yes I did read, but you obviously didnt!
I said get a new "S2" charger. Using other non-official chargers will result in varying results.

The S2 charger works fine with the other S2 though. It's just with my phone
well in that case maybe theres a problem in ur usb charging flex cable but that occurs wen u have a flashing battery icon on top righ cornoer battery status shows over voltage at charging and ur phn restarts wen u power it off.. if u dnt find these things it might be something else then
I don't have any of those issues. I had that before so I replaced the usb flex. This one is about 4 months old which is currently in my phone

And have you tried the charger on yours from this other S2?
Yes I've tried from both, and an s3 its only mine which doesn't work. I'm using the HTC charger atm and that seems to charge it fine. I'm really stumped to what wrong with it

Charging Cable

Where can I buy a genuine Samsung charging cable in the UK?
All the ones on ebay and amazon seem to be fake.

service center. warranty(yes)=free cable|||| warranty(no)=pay for it!
Tried Amazon?
Personally I feel the official cables are poor quality. The generic I bought are much better

Just sent the service centre an email asking for a new one.
I have a cheap cable that'll charge the phone. Recently bought a samsung battery charger and the LED on it won't change to green when the battery is charged because those crap cables aren't proper charging cables.
my cable had the problem and i'm still using BB cable

Maybe the battery charger is faulty, but I'm pretty sure its the cheap cable thats causing it.
Could be an incorrect pin layout

Charging faulty?

I've been trying to charge my phone lately my nexus s charger no longer charges as quick as it used to and my tab2 plug and s3 wire doesn't seem to be charging as fast. Could this be a USB fault or ROM as I came from paranoid ROM tried to go stock got a error and used the kies emergency recovery

This. I've been using my blackberry cable for a while now to since the stock chargers are really crappy. Besides, it disconnects with the slightest touch. I first blamed my USB ports for it, but when I changed the cable everything's fine

[Q]Charging problem?

Ok so recently i bought new usb cable to charge s3 since original one wasnt working. And all i can say that it charges but soo slow.. And btw my original s3 chargers dont works with it so i pulled out my old 'fat' galaxy tab charger.. Any solutions how to fix this problem?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
A well known issue is that the samsung kernel stability detector will charge at 100mA if it believes the connection to be unstable. Usually its because the S3 cable is crap and needs replacing.
Does your tab cable work? if so its clearly a problem with the cable you bought

My tab cable cant be plugged into s3 but it charges my tab good and fast and again that cable also isnt original..
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Im confused? So what has the tab got to do with anything at all?
haha yea maybe i was confusing. Bassically original wall charger from tab works when i plug that aftermarket usb cable to s3. However when i plug in my original s3 wall charger it doesnt work at all.
Ah ok..
Im not sure the tab has the same stability protection so Im not sure that proves anything.
Its either the plug in the wall, the cable or the port on the s3. Its *usually* the cable. Is it any faster plugging the cable into a PC USB?
Nope same speed.. So the cable is the problem?

Yes and no. The cable itself could be fine but something in it triggers the S3 to think it's unstable. OR the USB port is dodgy. You could try some other cables if you have people around who have them.
If you're rooted, some custom kernels have the ability to turn off this stability detection.

Did you try to switch cable?
Also, see if there is any change when you plug it into a pc, or after restarting your device

Check the current reaching your device using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abmantis.galaxychargingcurrent.free
If the charging port works as it should, you suppose to see value of 900-1100 in the 'avg' row (assuming you're using original 1A charger and cable), otherwise it should be much lower.

I was having the same problem with charging my phone for ages and then it occurred to me that it was a problem with the cables. Try the following fix from my own thread in the general section of the forum.

Try a different cable. I charge my S3 with a S4 charger and it works great! Good luck.
