[how-to] another advenure: From German "unrootable" 3.2 build10 to rooted 4.0.3R5a
Hi there,
after about 5 nights, this "morning" at 4am, I won over Sony and M$ :highfive:
So i want to write this little tutorial for the ones, who might still be stuck on 3.2 build10.
I bought my tablet S 114DE/S, German with 3G, right before Xmas. Thought, it would be an easy task ... ha-ha.
First thing I read was, that build 10 is unrootable. F#?!
Started reading everyhing on XDA and other forums. Also read Cat McGowan's "adventure". Tried to do it like him... but as my tablet is German region an region changer only works with rooted devices, I could not flash his US files. But the idea was born.
Found the thread: XDA Developers > Sony Tablet S > Tablet S General > NEW Update Links Inc Tablet S/P R5A & Xperia S R6b
The "oldest" downloadable German original Sony FW was ICS R2a. I was not sure if this was still rootable, i would have liked to find a R1a, but what the heck, worst case is a not rooted ICS, which is still better than an unrooted 3.2!!
Downloaded, put on SD an flashed with recovery mode. Went fine.
So all you need to get away from "unrootable" build10 is a rootable original FW for YOUR tablet's country code!!! Hope you find one. There are many in the above mentioned thread.
Installed ADB automatic installer, no probs. i have Windows 7 pro 64bit.
Would be really NICE to add a clearly visible advice to also install the ADB driver (most likely MANUALLY on some systems) before using any special tools... I did not see any advice, maybe I was blind...
At least tell everybody to check, if the driver is working, by booting in recovery and looking at Windows device manager.
Problem is to find the right driver...if you simply choose the INF like for the "normal boot" ADB device, W7/64 does not install properly, you can get an error... really badly misleading message comes from Windows: It's telling something about MTP device ... well, actually you need the ADB driver!! Took me some hours... but as I found that problem only later, it took me 2 nights before, trying Condi's flasher and AIO 5.3 tool, without success...
OK, ADB drivers were installed (I only had the normal boot drivers at that time).
Downloaded Condi's AIO 5.3 tool, used the "root device" option, everything went OK, I was really happy! Rooted ICS R2a. First big step. 3.2 build10 unrootable? Not really... you only need a rootable original Sony firmware, flash it the normal way.
Then, I wanted to upgrade to R5a of course!
Condi's flasher 2.2. did not work. Maybe also because of the missing ADB driver for recovery mode?? Dunno. It always ended with: System.zip and all the other zips "not found", although I also tried pushing them manually to the internal SD before... when checking later, they disappeared.
Tried AIO 5.3 and custom signed zip. Always stuck in recovery mode with "Status 7" Error, like described in post #72 in this post:
XDA Developers > Sony Tablet S > Tablet S Android Development > [FW R5A WIFI/3G] NEW! custom preROOTed newest stock nbx03 R5A with R1A's recovery!
Also here, it would be nice to bring the advice (install ADB drivers for recovery mode) BEFORE! It does NOT appear in the tool's window IF you are stuck!
After finding the right driver, it was no problem installing the prerooted double-flash zip with the AIO tool... Also here, do not panic when the "Status7" Error appears... it's normal, it disappears after a few seconds and at the same time, the hint about the driver comes up in the command window...
Btw I had no problems with missing google market or apps or any Sony applications. Google play is working, also Sony remote etc.
OK, that's it!
Waiting for 4.2
Have fun with your rooted Sonys!
Many thanks to Condi and the other devs for the tools, videos, tutorials... they may not be perfect, but without, it would be impossible for guys like me

Bricked? Boot-loop? SDE gone. Firmware not installing

Hello,
A few months ago, i rooted our Archos 101 succesfully. Multiboot. Worked nice.
Then the firmware came, and my partner let it install. But it failed halfway.
He tried some things, but no succes.
Now we found this guide on how to install the firmware.
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=54637
This guide seems to be the windows version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196318
My partner tried the steps, but nothing seems to work.
We have only the recovery menu, without the SDE .....
I tried to use the stock firmware and the sde version. But it stops directly, saying: update failed
I tried the format option, the fw-update version.
I tried downing with firefox and iE8. We use the original file-name
Nothing helps
I hope we are not bricked.
What can we do?
Thanks in advance,
Lydia

Hi,
What's your tab? it will help us i think.
and, have you all stock menu (except sde menu of course)?
I have no idea, except, your hardware is damaged.
another question comes to me: The full format works well?
Bizcuite
If u can uninstall SDE do it (if you dont have SDE menu skip this step). Try full device reformat. Make sure you download the right firmware for your device cuz many people made the mistake to download the wrong one.
We have an Archos 101 internet 8gb gen8
We used this stock firmware:
update.archos.com/8/gen8/gen8_2.4.83/firmware_archos_android_gen8.aos
and this sde firmware:
archos.com/support/download/firm_dev/firmware_archos_android_gen8.aos
(sorry outside links are not allowed for me yet)
We tried several formats. The guide let to format from within windows. Recently I cleaned my computer. So no ADB of Android sdk intstalled at the moment. The format from the windows-admin is a bit strange, but I hoped the guide was ok.
We tried FAT and FAT32
It seem to work.
We have only the white screen with the boot menu. No SDE.
The firmware worked in the beginning but got stuck and hanged voor about half an hour. Then we interupted it by switching off the tablet
Now it won't start any script.
I do hope it is nothing with the hardware! Could it really go wrong when roootin?

[Q] Rooting android 4.04 allview P5

Hello, i just recently purchased an Allview P5 smartphone, it's really cost efficient but recently i started getting some problems because the phone is not rooted and i was wondering how to root the android 4.04. i tried the superoneclick 2.3.3 and installed adb and something from java, bu when i rung the program superoneclick the program just freezes and it's not responding. any suggestions or guides that i should follow?
best regards
Chris
Try root for HaiPai I9220. For me it works.
Having the same problem here, Superoneclick freezes on step 7 iirc.
HaiPai didn't work for me either
So that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923764
There you will find this: http://www.mediafire.com/view/?othd1gf76pa97zg
It is 100% functional, but need more knowledge and skill.
Ok, I came a lot further this time, but still stuck.
As soon as I let Cygwin `patch` the recovery.img, it does the patching and stuff, but it doesn´t create a new recovery.img for some reason..
If you check page 13 of that PDF manual: I get all the same messages in Cygwin, except for that "Repacking" bit.
Any Idea why it isn't repacking?
Losing my nerves a bit because of Cygwin, what a horrible program to get to work properly. Installation went on beyond 100%, till about 2000% and then just started to count further in negatives >____<
You must have installed 7-zip archive program.
SuperOneClick should work for this device. You may try this:
1) unmount the sd-card, turn ON usb-debugging
2) turn OFF usb-debugging
3) connect device to PC
4) click "Root"
5) when "Waiting for Device" appear turn ON usb-debugging
6) when "Starting ADB Server..." turn OFF usb-debugging
7) then turn it back ON
8) and back OFF
9) repeat this while "Waiting for Device" appears again.
@Stovka: I have 7zip installed, the unpacking/extracting of the recovery.img goes fine in Cygwin, but for some reason it just skips the repack part.
@AndreyETO: As soon as I disable debugging mode, superoneclick stops the procedure, so I didn't get far with that
So sorry, I don't really know what is the problem...
It was all ok for me - the one problem was that I had not installed 7-zip, but after installing it worked exactly according to instructions.
If it were successful: after recording recovery.img to the phone is first necessary to go into CWM mode (no run phone) and install the root file attached. End CWM recovery mode is classically done by clicking on "reboot system now", but after the first time there appears one more option (just I don't know what name), which must be confirmed! Otherwise, when you restart the phone again, then will be loaded the original file and the recovery process must be repeated - upload modified recovery.img and then root file via CWM.
Found another way to root, and it worked
I used the method in this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 )I used the current newest version:V15)
The first time it didn't work, but after rebooting the phone and trying again it was succesfull
Anyway, thank you guys for trying to help.

Same experience on Allview P6 Stony (P6_0201_V1179 software build). This method works for me - similarly I had to run the script (and the reboot cycle) 2x before it had an effect.
As pointers for others, before you try this method you need to make sure you have ADB drivers installed. Trying to install stock google drivers didn't work at all for me, what worked for me was installing latest PdaNet drivers (pdanetZ350.exe) from here: junefabrics.com/android/download.php *
Don't forget to install OTA Rootkeeper app afterwards and run it once - hopefully saves you the hassle of rooting again if the P6 should receive an incremental update.
Enjoy, thanks Flapperbol!
(*= sorry Im not allowed to post links)
Version 18 also works
Just to let you guys know that version 18 of Root_with_restore works. I just the ADB drivers from the PDAnet install (which I cancelled after the drivers were installed) and the phone is now rooted!
Does anybody know how to get rid of those ugly allview icons? I hate those things.

[Q] Prestigio MultiPad 4 Quantum Root Help (PMP5297C_QUAD)

[ISSUE HAS BEEN SOLVED! - Download and use "ROOT Genius" to root this particular brand of tablet. I have personally tested it and can confirm it works on Firmware revisions: v1.0.07 and v1.0.9! Thanks to "brugos" for finding the fix and bringing it to my attention!]
Hey guys
I do hope I have posted this question in the correct forum, if not I do apologise.
As you can probably tell from the title, I am looking for a way to root my 9.7 inch Prestigio MultiPad 4 Quantum 9.7 tablet (Model: PMP5297C_QUAD).
I have been looking for a way to root this since December, and even though I have found several articles (non English) explaining how to root this device (and have been through all the relevant threads I could find regarding my device on XDA), all of the guides have been for firmware v1.0.3 - my tablet is v1.0.7. I went ahead and tried it anyway, and although CWM installed and launched fine, installing the SuperSU binary via CWM did nothing. It installs, but nothing appears in Android when I reboot, and installing SuperSU from Play Store alerts me that the SuperSU binaries are not installed.
I tried "Kingo Android ROOT" and that wouldn't even detect the device, which isn't surprising as it isn't listed on their website. However somebody on a similar thread (on XDA) suggested that the OP (who has the same tablet as myself) at least try it. I did try it, and sadly it doesn't work.
Device information:
Prestigio MultiPad 4 Quantum 9.7" Tablet
Model Number: PMP5297C_QUAD
Firmware: v1.0.7 (December 2013)
FW Build Number: PMP5297C_QUAD_20131204_V1.0.7
Android Version: 4.2.2
If there is anybody out there who has any idea what to try, then I am willing to listen. If anybody needs any other information, I am more than willing to give it
Cheers guys
Prestigio multipad 4 quantum 9.7
The same here..trying to find a way to root for the new firmware...still haven't got anything...
Yeah... doesn't seem to be a very popular brand of tablet :/ Which is a shame as its pretty damn snappy with the v1.0.7 firmware. I wanna get a resolution changer to work, but none I have tried will work without rooting. Only wanna drop the res for better gaming framerates lol
yeah agree...doesn't seem very popular... I guess we should wait some time more.... did you try rooting with the old firmware and then updating to the new firmware? I guess it wouldn't work anyway....
Nope... from past experience rooting phones updating the firmware breaks the root as v1.0.7 replaced the entire OS if I remember...
Tried the root for v1.0.3 while using v1.0.7... ClockWorkMod installed and works fine, but the SuperSU binary doesn't work/install It was a gamble incase it screwed anything up but luckily it didn't - however, it also didn't work
And yeah, looks like we will need to wait a while longer... I do hope someone out there somewhere knows what to do lol Just gotta find them or wait for them to find us lol
Hey dude...you still haven't find root? If not try with root genious... I got root now on my tablet...running the latest firmware 1.0.9
Regards!
Ah man! You are AMAZING! lol
I almost gave up trying to find a root - until now!
I had no idea that there was a new FW released a few weeks back, just updated it and downloaded "ROOT Genius" - worked first time!
Excellent work there dude, thank you so much and thank you for taking the time to share it with me, and the rest of the people out there who have been in the same situation as us who are still looking for a fix!
Now we have it! Excellent work!
You welcome!
Just curious what are you going to do to your tablet having root now?
Do you know if there is any posibility to install any rom or something like that?
Also knowing Prestigio I guess would be hard to find some updates hmmm
Hey man
Well the main reason I wanted to root first of all was to adjust the resolution of the display, it has a beautiful high resolution display as you know but some games... the FPS leave a lot to be desired. After doing some reading, some posts suggested lowering the display resolution to increase FPS - and the only way to do that was to root the device.
I did try one app, but it went a bit wrong lol. I was hoping it would readjust the resolution and resize the interface accordingly... instead it ended up changing the resolution, but the interface stayed MASSIVE. The device was inoperable and keep getting a "UI Error" constantly popping up making it unusable at all lol. Had to reflash and re-root so I am looking for another option
Beyond that, I have used custom ROMs in the past on my Android phones, but as far as I know, I believe there is only one ROM out there for our tablet and its based on CyanogenMOD I think... I may be wrong, but I thought I read something somewhere about it. Apart from that though, I am not really sure what else I will do now it is rooted Will open the door to some other apps for certain, but the OS itself seems fine and since the new firmware (v1.0.9) - it feels even faster than before!
What do you have in mind?
Yeah I noticed the issue of FPS in some games.... Well I didn't do many things yet I instaled Xposed and some modules.... and also I removed the navingation bar...is just that I dont like the way the navigation bar and status bar are together... thats why I was searching for another rom also which could have not the Ice cream sandwich bar.
I've found this: crewrktablets.arctablet.com where there are some roms with kit kat that may be work for our tablet but nothing confirmed yet...so I'm not sure if I'm gonna try it
and yeah with the new firmware is much faster thats cool.... but I'm almost sure will be forever in 4.2.2
It worked with MULTIPAD 4 QUANTUM 10.1PMP5101C-QUAD with last firmware too.

You've got some drivers here: http://storage29-free.uloz.to/Ps;Hs...7c-cwm-v6-0-3-zip?bD&c=1822785863&De&redirs=1
It's also root and cwm. But there is driver folder too. Even for windows 8. It might work.
Here are some instructions maybe you did something wrong
1. On tablet set the usb-connection-style to 'mass storage'. Settings, Memory-3 dots in the upper right corner- choose Mass storage
2. Turn off the tablet.
3. Connect the usb cable with PC and tablet.
4. HOLD DOWN the (volume +) key and turn the device on(still holding the vol.+) until you get a notice(driver not successfuly installed) on your PC.
5. Use the Manual(found in the downloaded folder) to install a proper driver. Or.: Go to Start-My Computer-Right click on it-Properties-Device Manager-Other devices-Unknown device-Update Driver- In the window browse the computer for the specific driver(that's why you need to know your systems pc)
Good luck.

Ok, i tried those drivers too but no success. I think maybe i need other OS.
I have developers options ON and USB debugging turned ON. (I think that should be turned ON)
P.S. I changed to mass storage and program did recognize the tablet but when i clciked switch (tablet turned OFF) and then it did not recognize anymore - i think problems with drivers.
Update to 1.0.9
Hello again,
I finally made it
Here is the thing:
1) Download this update (1.0.9): http://de05.dl.prestigio.com/Service_Files/TabletPC/PMP5297C_QUAD/PMP5297C_20140425_v1.0.9.zip from @yoyo97 (thanks)
2) Dont use drivers in folder /Drivers_x32 or /Drivers_x64
Instead go to /tools/Driver (and use this one x86 or x64 - depends on your OS)
3) Follow instructions in manual:
start RKBatchTool.exe and if icon is not green click Switch. Wait for tablet to shutdown and you should get green icon. (if this doesnt help turn off your tablet manualy and press AND hold volume + button for about 6-7 seconds DONT release and plug in USB cable then you should get notification on windows and green icon in RKBatchTool.exe)
4) Choose the firmware image and click upgrade.
5) let the software do the trick
6) profit
7) for rooting i used an android app called kingo root https://www.kingoapp.com/ just download the app on tablet. When you start it just click root and let the app do the trick.
After around 2-4min your tablet should be rooted.
I was using windows 7 (x86)
If you need any information please let me know and I will be glad to help
Have a nice day,
DyXen
Hi DyXen
Tried it all, but cannot get rockusb.inf to work on Windows 10 64-bit. I see two devices in my device manager after connecting the tablet, POrtable Device PMP5297C_QUAD and Android Composite ADB Interface. Have tried forcing the bundled Win8 x64 rockusb.inf on to both devices but keep getting "The folder you specified does not contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64 based systems."
I have also tried DriverAssistant v4.4 and it installed the drivers OK.
Even tried copying the IMG and ZIP files to SD card and applying via recovery. Nothing works. My tablet is still stuck on 1.0.3 and is sluggish as a snail. Some help will be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Rooting Venue 7 3740

Hi all,
I recently got a new Dell Venue 7 3740 (yeah, not my first choice, but it was free for buying a computer). Anyway, started reading up on how to root the thing. I have a couple of apps that require root.
I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/dell-venue/development/guide-how-to-root-android-4-4-4-dell-t2918427
and also the main Dell page: http://opensource.dell.com/releases/Venue_7_3740_Merrifield/developer-edition/
Following Dell's guide to rooting appears to NOT root it. Installing Root Checker confirms I don't have root. Unbricked it and got it back up from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4. By reading the first guide for the 3840, my question is ...
Is the boot image linked there compatible with my 3740?
(yeah, I know this should be in the developer section ... unfortunately I don't have enough posts ... also, I am familiar with rooting/flashing/etc, my first device that I put CM7 on was the original Galaxy S1 ... and I have CM10 on my S3.)
Tried, failed
Yeah I got this tablet with a PC too and tried rooting. It FUBAR'd on me and I had to wrestle with unbricking it. Which sorry to say is a job and a half, the images on Dell's site are corrupt for this WiFi only version (no partition.tbl file, system image incomplete). Ending up downloading the LTE versions firmware to get the missing files and rewriting the batch as the file names for the fastboot commands were wrong too. And even then the tablet wouldn't boot, so I had to store the OTA on an SD card and use recovery to flash it. Unfortunately that leaves me with 4.4.2 and the dreaded clock and browser issues. And OTA doesn't work, it keeps saying no updates are available. Spoke with a Dell rep who said OTAs were suspended and to try again in a week but I think OTA was broken for me when I tried rooting and boot loader was unlocked (which the PDF on Dell's site warns you about).
So now I have a working tablet that skips hours ahead and has general stability issues.

Hmm ... Interestingly enough, I ran through the unbrick procedure from Dell, and didn't have any issues with it whatsoever. I'm not sure if they updated the TGZ since you updated.
I have read that root is for ADB to start with. Can anyone confirm this? If so, then which package could I get for a superuser binary?

I did this process just a couple days ago so everything I pulled from opensource.dell was current. The unbrick tgz on the site shows up as 128mb for the wifi only A1195 and the A5195 shows as 821mb (odd). When I extracted the tgz it said "unexpected end" or something like that on the system image. Then again when I extracted from that extracted tgz.
Following the root process initially worked and the temp cwm recovery let me flash the supersu update. It booted with su just fine and I tried a couple apps that needed root and they worked. Once I rebooted again the tablet showed up with a USB icon and would go no further. Never having dealt with Intel SoC drivers it took me a while to get them installed properly, and then I eventually understood what "full power off" meant lol.
Do you know how I can relock the bootloader and get OTA working again, assuming I'm already on 4.4.2 from the OTA zip installed via recovery?
Thanks.

You better redo the unbrick procces cause as you are now, you won't be able to update your tablet and 4.4.2 has some issues with the clock and browser. The best way to root is by thetered cwm, I did it and it's working great.

This is quite odd. From the documentation, it appears that the A195 is for the LTE version, and the A150 is Wifi only. Since I have the 3740 Wifi only, I only pulled the A150 version.
The Unbricking process was very straightforward and everything went smoothly, and after it rebooted, it prompted that there was a system update from Dell, and that took me from the 4.4.2 from the TGZ, to 4.4.4

* For Wifi-only device on A150 and Wifi / LTE device on A195
I see it now, I think I was misinterpreting the above statement which means I've been flashing the A195 rom this whole time. Thank you all for your help! :good:
After getting my 3740 back to "Unbricked" mode, and OTA upgraded to 4.4.4, it appears that I'm completely locked out of the rooting process.
I've tried to start over with the Dell info (unlocking bootloader), however, neither of my PC's will detect the tablet when using xFSTK (one PC - Win8.1-64bit, other XP-32bit). The tablet IS detected, however, it appears that the drivers are no longer correct(?).
I normally run Ubuntu, and thats where my Android development setup is on ... I see that xFSTK is available for Linux ... has anyone used it? or would I be better trying to fight Windows?

It is mentioned somewhere that the 3740 and the 3840 use the same firmware. Assuming that, what you can do is download the latest SuperUser zip, copy it to the internal or external storage, then use THIS, or THIS to root through CWM.

Hmmm ... I took this to mean that I could use the same boot.img as the Venue 8, and tried the process from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/dell-venue/development/guide-how-to-root-android-4-4-4-dell-t2918427
NOPE. (Don't try, it'll cause the tablet to go into the "help my androids' fallen and can't get up" icon. )

I'm curious as to what it is you're trying to do. Why do you insist on having a developer's root (just the use of ADB shell), as opposed to full root flashing SuperSu from custom recovery?

I just want full root.
Most of the info that I've read on here and elsewhere are geared to the 3830/3840. Not as much for the 3740. So, by playing with the device and learning what works/doesn't work, possibly others may find this info useful to them.
I've been having issues seeing the device from XP, Win8.1 and Ubuntu, in the 'off' state of the tablet, when the PC should be seeing the merrifield. Just this morning, after bricking it last night, I discovered that my PC seems to see the device right away if I press Vol+ while plugging in the microUSB. (again, something that may help someone else) I was planning on double checking this info later today, to make sure that it wasn't a fluke.
I do appreciate both of the links that you've posted in this thread, and I will check them out. Of course, both are labelled for the Venue 8, not the Venue 7 that I have. Since I've gained knowledge on the unbrick process I feel more comfortable trying them.
I've installed (or tried to install) SuperSU from the Play store, but it didn't appear to help much, since I didn't have the custom recovery setup at that time. I'll work on that tonight.

A quick word on getting the device recognized in off mode, what worked for me was it needs to be completely powered off and nothing showing on the tablet screen then connect and bring up the device manager. Whatever shows up needs to be "Intel SoC" so change the driver to that if needed. When flashing firmware to unlock the bootloader the device's boot screen will show an "Intel Inside" logo instead of the normal "Dell" logo. I ended up running xFSTK commands in advance (they'll wait) and then running over to hook up the tablet (powered off) via USB as for some reason it'll show up and then I hear "da-Dunk" in Windows (device disconnected) after a short while which interrupts the process (same with fastboot commands). This was the unbrick process in a nutshell for me and I'm leaving it now as is (OTA'd to 4.4.4) until hopefully the supposed update to Lollipop comes around and maybe some progress is made on rooting it.
Hope this helps you!

I have finally settled down and got the tablet rooted. What's really odd, was Win8.1 kept losing the proper driver. I'm not sure exactly why ... but suffice it to say, I got it working. It did appear to be more stable when I hit the Vol+ and plugged in the USB, but then again it may have been a coincidence.
Open source dell
If you follow the link to dell open source, they do have a detailed PDF download for unlocking the boot loader etc. The file was too large for me to upload on XDA. I just found it today while I was researching how to root this tablet. I have not had a chance to try it yet.
http://opensource.dell.com/
That doesnt work for 3740 lte. I;ve done everything that was in PDF. OTA image should be with unlocker bootloader and root but its not. ;/
Its adb root not su big difference
Does anyone have any idea to root dell venue 7 3740 lte
The open source is for venue 7 3740 wifi

DigiLand DL718M - Root Needed , DL701 procedures do not work on the 718m

Just picked up at Best Buy for $39 a Digiland DL718M tablet. It has lillipop 5.1 on it. I read the threads on the 10 inch digiland tablet and tried everything there that seemed relevant. This included iroot, v root, and kingo. None worked and Kingo bricked the thing on a second attempt. Luckily I was with in the 15 days at best buy so I just returned it saying it failed in a software update (which it did....) With the "new" new tablet I did not do the OTA update and tried kingo and iroot out of the box. Both failed. Anyone been able to root this puppy yet? I sure am getting no where fast. (did activate USB debug for all attempts). Tried PC and onboard software. Nothing is working.....

SRSRoot states that it is compatible but I can't get it to recognize my device even though I can see it in CMD... Any luck on your end?
Hi I picked one of these up too, surprising little $40 device.
I dont want to start another thread but would like to add that I too am looking for a capable root
Thanks.
Also looking for root - anyone flash a custom recovery onto this device?
*found this tweet says it works for this device - trying now*

Hi fourtwentybuddy,
Did it work for you ??? The site seems to be suspicious so I can't open it. I'm looking for root for this device too.
It did not work...the site downloaded the app just fine however the biggest issue has been getting the device recognized by adb. I've tried 2 different adb drivers and neither of those made the device not have the exclamation point in Device Manager.
*update*
the latest Kingo Root application for windows had the proper adb drivers for this device. However none of the common rooting apps i tried were successful KingRoot Kingo Root SRSRoot. Ill try iRoot RootGenius & MobileGo this week but im doubtful.

Ahhhhh! Sad to hear that. I guess I will wait until some root comes up, then I will get one of these tablets.
I spent the $50 and for that alone it is not that bad of a tablet...as far as feeding my itch to tinker with things - I should have applied that $50 towards a nexus 7

I've already had an Acer B1-810, which i just sent back to repair the bootloop (sshhhh don't tell anyone), yet I still want to buy this one to tinker and test how long it's gonna last. I just think it's better to wait for a root so i can disable background app and boost it a little bit. Small question: Does it have many bloatwares ?
None at all actually
Any news on people being able to root this? I have had no luck so far.
what I've learned so far
from power off, holding down volume down and power button boot into a menu in Chinese.
the top item is a system test
the second item displays test results
the long item is some sort of debug menu
the item below that clears/wipes personal data to factory reset(useful if you forget your lock code)
the bottom item reboots to normal operation
the volume down button navigates the menu, the power button selects choices, and the volume up button acts as a go back button in sub menus.
---------- Post added at 05:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:46 PM ----------
the OEM Android version is nearly stock I did the update and am at 5.1
the developer options is missing the unlock rom option, which is the easiest way to get to root.
these universal adb drivers seem to work
github.com/koush/UniversalAdbDriver
as does this fastboot:
code.google.com/p/android-roms/downloads/detail?name=fastboot-win32.zip&can=2&q=
the fastboot menu is in English, which is nice, but the partitions are write locked, and I haven't figured out how to fix that yet.
and I recommend the ap ' volume in notification ' to solve lolipops refusal to actually change the volume!
So, no one has figured out how to do this root yet? I'm dying to know and I would like it rooted. I've tried every method, even the PC ones. iRoot does not work like I hoped it would :/
getting closer
so it dawned on me i can use adb to reboot into recovery mode, which i did and is in english!
i then tried to sideload, and it told me i had to use adb version 1.0.32 or newer, quick download, and unrar later into the same directory i overwrote my old adb files.
from there i used adb reboot recovery to open the stock android recovery, it provided a dead android robot with his chest open, tapping the power button and volume up at the same time took me into the recovery menu.
i was unable to apply a zip file update superuser.zip either from the adb sideload, or from the sdcard.
it said installation aborted.
got the same response with an .img file with clockwork mod recovery
also same message when trying to use sideload to load superuser apk file
the fastboot that comes with the xda copy of adb 1.0.32 didnt seem to work at all, so went back to previous version of fastboot, mentioned in an earlier post.

tablet on sale again
this tablet is on sale again at best buy online. $36.99 for 2 colors, a really great buy.
I too own this, have tried towel root and kingroot but (of course) no root. This seems to be a "popular" device and for the price is an excellent choice to tinker with. My main reason for needing this root is so i can use my sd card to provide some extra ram. Eventually I plan to use this tablet as an UI for my home automation setup but i need root first.
If someone can figure out how to root a $800 samsung device, surely this $50 china tablet shouldn't be an issue.
Maybe we should all donate $5.00 to a root developer, so they can buy this device and root it for us and him/her self.
We get root, they get a free device. Its a win win.
