are all new S3 phones (uk) 4G ready? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Thats all really, I cracked the screen on my S3 and as only I would, I just ordered another contract to get a new S3.. but I heard that all new 3 models will now be 4G compatible/ready?
Is this the case? I ordered mine from 3 mobile.

No, not all.
If you want a 4G S3, make sure you get the I9305 model. This also comes with 2GB RAM.

Thanks, thats what I thought. I just heard that all future models will be 4g ready. It doesnt matter anyway, there is no 4G signal in my area yet anyway.. although they have 3 EE shops open in the town centre, I find that bizarre when no one in redditch can get a 4G signal !!

Well here in Coventry there is about 10EE store just in the City Center yet 4G isnt available here either.
Its because EE has replaced all Orange and Tmobile stores.

yes sorry WCDMA , and they only give me 137.80 for it :/ not enough for a used galaxy.
I'm confused what the GSM galaxy nexus will offer over the GS II. Don't they both use the same HSPA+ / WCDMA frequencies, if you get the GSM version?
Regardless I think you will be extremely lucky if you can find a way to swap a Galaxy S II for a Galaxy Nexus. If you ever do find a way that by some miracle gets you a GSM Galaxy Nexus for a i777 straight over, do let us know.
XDA does have a marketplace forum for buying, selling, and trading.

I don't have a CDMA network to use the phone right now its just sitting there. I have verizon thus my need for a GSM phone. I know it does but with the new restrictions I cannot post or even look at the forum :/
I think your confused. You cant use any GSM phone on Verizon. Unless maybe its unlocked? Verizon is CDMA. Along with Sprint. GSM can be used with ATT and T Mobile. i777 is for ATT. Unless you have the International version i9100. Then you should be able to put a T Mobile sim in it.

Yes, you need a CDMA/LTE Galaxy Nexus for Verizon. The i777 will not work on Verizon.
None of AT&T's LTE phones will work on Verizon, even if unlocked. What AT&T calls 4G that isn't LTE, their HSPA+, is also referred to as WCDMA, plus their 3G is called WCDMA, but its not CDMA like Verizon or Sprint. If that wasn't confusing enough both AT&T and Verizon use 700 MHz LTE, but they are not using the same section of the 700 range so they are not interoperable. Unlike EDGE (2G) that is interopeable on AT&T vs T-Mobile. And some regions of AT&T and T-Mobile use the same 3G frequencies, so some 3G phones have limited functionality on both GSM networks.
Basic rule of thumb, for best results get a phone specifically made for your carrier.

These phones aren't going to sell for nearly what they could a few months ago sadly. U can grab one for almost nothing nowadays by signing up for new contract. I got mine for a hundred. But u see them for as low as 25 bucks.

Thinking of getting Intl. version am on AT&T right now with MicroCell

Currently on AT&T and am contemplating getting the Intl. version because of the quad core as well as no carrier bloatware, etc.
My question though is I have to use a MicroCell at home due to AT&T not having great coverage in my area... Will the Intl. version of the phone still work with the MicroCell unit?
Thanks!
Bump
Never really looked into the micro cell to much but my question is how do I actually order the int. Version for AT&T.
Also Bump.

Own EVO LTE want sgs3 can't decide international or us version ?

Just want honest opinion don't care about price or weather I have LTE on it I have the EVO LTE but also want the s3 .
Issue is I really don't want another contract with sprint .
So I'm leaning to the interational one its my first int device and like the community but the two gigs ram is attractive
Thanks people

since u were nice enough to pm, i'll answer and I think u should do the US version, it's gonna have the dual core which outshines the current quad cores, plus you would have working LTE here instead a slower data, assuming you live in the states, and witht he 2gb of ram, can't really see a reason to go international...
I'm in the same boat but you need to factor in faster dev support on the int compared to the US. If you're a constant flasher like myself, its a hard decision to make.
Here are my pros (YMMV)
Int:
Quad Core
Better GPU
32/64gb int storage (I believe there are 32gb flavors out there)
faster dev support
US:
LTE
2GB
cheaper (i believe full retail is 549.99 or 599.99, correct me if I'm wrong)
I'm in Canada and decided to go LTE because it should still be able to work in Europe when I go. But it has better hardware.
The downside to the international in NA you will be stuck on the EDGE/CDMA network, which is a major downside.

the international phone is GSM, won't work on Sprint. why not just get the phone from sprint off contract?
Just curious as it's not mentioned. With the Sprint release on the 21st, will you still be in 30 day return window on your EVO LTE?
If not get the Sprint SGSIII.

Well I got both lol I forgot to cancel one they the international one came and I might as,well keep the us version I just gave one of my epic touches to my dad lol .. I see all your points my curiosity got the best of me about the quad core not for the CPU but more the Mali400 is sounding a tad better than adreno 225 .

Well at the time the off contract was not available yet it is but thinking its near impossible to get a good price if u want to sell a us version phone without taking a huge hit eg if I want to sell after 14 days yea I can put it at its close to full price but cutting contract is a major drop many more people in my experience buy unlocked devices myself included I'm hating sprint service over all on the lte and epic touch is horrid in the new England area .
I got both cause I will let my gf use the us one maybe lol but as of now I'd rather play with the over clocking and roms in the international forums .
Dev support should be great but as u see in the us sgs2 we are still using repacked stock kernels ..
To many politics over here thus why people say the int version will have more support .. I'm not sure that's true I mean numbers don't lie us and Canada are gonna be big on the dev scene but updates and proper source plague us in the us

I9205 LTE,Gt-I9152,i9200

What is the difference between these models? Do they all have the same processors? I ususally buy my phone out right, root them and then use my AT&T network. I have been using my Note 1 for 18 month now. I am happy with it, but just saw the 6.3 Mega at a AT&T store and love it. I have checked Amazon and Ebay. I know i want the 16gig model. Just not sure what is the difference between the 3 models listed. I know the 9152 has dual sim capabilities. But besides that, are they all LTE capable? $149 for the Mega at the AT&T store is not a bad price for the phone.

But if you don't want to extend the contract, you can definitely buy the international one, provided you're grandfathered in the unlimited smartphone data plan and also if you don't mind not getting LTE but frankly hspa+ is more than enough speed to watch youtube netflix and so on, and so on

LTE Version?

Has anyone been able to get their hands on an LTE version? I'm curious how long it will be before it gets to the US.
Hopefully my UK version should arrive today. Will share findings tomorrow.

I got my LTE one last Friday from Samsung UK, would have preferred a Silver one (had received a Silver Wifi one last week) as the black just attracts fingerprints but it works very well!
Got the wifi but swapping for the 4G which should turn up today. Excellent customer service from Samsung
Positives
- Screen quality good even though PPI not as good as the older Note 10.1 2014 edition. Perhaps better graphics processing. Screen very fast and responsive
- WiFi seems very fast
- holds LTE Signal really well
Not sure about the S Pen functionality yet. The fine pen option is not that fine! But S Pen works well with OneNote

Should have got the sm-t825y version , supports umts 3g also, same bands as the sm-t819y.
Doesnt look like samsung is in any rush to sell the US spec lte 4g version here.
Im gonna wait til the sm-t825y is more freely available then perhaps sell my sm-t819y. Same bands, plus makes voice calls too, which im sure usa version will be disabled.

Canada was the first to get the S3
We'll probably be the last to get the S3 LTE (or perhaps not at all). Eh, it might be for the best anyway.
I've tended to use my phones as a hotspots lately because of this (not having LTE or cell variants of tablets/laptops up here) but also due to battery life being better on my phones just using them as hotspots (practically naked of apps running in the background) vs. using them by themselves with apps + cellphone data (because as long as the phone is connected to network apps call home with phone off). This also causes other devices to not eat as much battery, because once the Internet's off completely, nothing will consume battery in the background. I don't like turning on/off Airplane mode all the time just to save some battery, and can't control other "features" I don't need (or can't turn off, like default apps background push data) unless rooted, but I want Netflix so gotta be chaste.
I'd like to see some battery stats on LTE vs WiFi versions, due to the nature of always-on apps.

Yes, it does. Unfortunately, it doesn't have US LTE bands (besides band 5). But HSPA+ is pretty good though on T-Mobile in my area.
I was reading the info on it on Amazon, the info can be misleading there then. It states quote on quote "This model provides for LTE connectivity on all GSM networks throughout the globe. No support for CDMA though (Sprint, Verizon, etc.) "

I think the information on all the current seller sites are inaccurate, they are all copy and paste from the generic spec of the SM-T825 model. I think most of the LTE version seller on eBay and Amazon is selling the SM-T825C model, which is the "Chinese/HK" version of the tablet without proper US LTE band support. It does support US GSM Bands for calling and data.
The SM-T825Y model, while it's the common model in the SE Asia Region (Singapore, Philippines...etc) and Europe, supports T-Mobile US LTE bands (2,4). However, I have yet to find a seller in the US (or ships to the US) that inidicate that they are selling the Y version besides a company called ETOREN. So you probably ned to wait a while until the Y version becomes more common.
Would have been nice to get a Y version, but I guess I will just have to work around the LTE part with my hotspot if I need the speed .
