Link2SD

My progress so far posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1490116:
ps3taker said:
If you want app data to be moved to external sd Link2Sd works but with a few extra steps only. Here is how I manage this on mine.
Installed Link2SD on tablet.
Formatted external card (in my case a 32GB microsd in an SD adapter) on my laptop using EASEUS to have to PRIMARY partitions 1st in FAT32 and second in EXT3 formats.
At first Link2SD does not recognise any ext partition present and if I try to recreate mounting script on it telling it EXT3 format it says something like could not do, directory does not exist or similar.
Then after a reboot Link2sd warning pops up saying the sd card was not mounted at boot and therefore the system did not load apps on it. You have an option to recreate a mounting script (which I did not need to do as did it already previously) and the quick reboot option (which is different from the regular reboot in the way that it only restarts the android interface not the whole hardware) - so I do this reboot and after everything starts you can see the extra partition and use it.
So currently quick reboot is needed after every total shutdown of the tablet - thankfully I almost never shut down the tablet completely unless run out of battery completely or some other rare reason or testing like this one.
Also note that quick reboot sometimes gives a close/wait warning just after it is done - I always chose wait and everything seemed ok after that.
Make sure you give Link2sd superuser permission. I decided to leave out Lib out of the app data I link because I noticed that if I move data back to internal storage link2SD shows that libs are unlinked already/ I know there is an option in link2sd to relink libs at boot but I was not able to confirm if it works and they tend to take little space internally anyway.
Regarding extra partition size I tried less than 1GB and ca 14Gb. With bigger than 1GB partition it seems to recognise its size in link2sd but once you move more than 1gb data to it does not reflect the increase above 1gb but still seems to make the apps I moved before and after that work still.
I wonder if multi mount widget could help when combined with link2SD somehow. My guess best solution would be to make android mount external card early in its boot.
Hope it helps

I have not tried EXT2/4 and FAT/32 formats for the second partition - maybe someone could report on that and regarding >1GB data on it. I tried having 3 partitions at the same time FAT32, EXT2 and EXT3 but link2SD did not see any extra partition then.
When experimenting before changing partitions I unlinked apps first in order to not lose the apps and having to reinstall them.

oh no. they are not.
i read more forum and info and understood how to do this. you need to use apllication like LINK2SD, it also make games think that they are use usb memory. but in reality they are using SD memory. this program named GSCRIPT.
Sorry for my english.
guys guys, i think we need to work on one thread. We seem to be having two threads that are covering the same problem. two thread one problems aint gonna work.
Would it not be better to gather all information that is relevant to the problem and work together to achieve our aims.
I for one would love this to be sorted but having tried the link2sd and mounting a script within the mnt/sd I believe we need to re group and work this.

I use link2sd in my Htc, because it have only 100mb of internal storage.

I understand what you are saying but the htc and sony are two different beasts. The htc can use the external sd as storage but at present the sony can only use the sd for transfering data and it will not allow game data to be transfered.
THis is not the solution. Do you actually have a sony? If so you will know this being the case.
i installed Link2sd on Sony Tablet S, and it works very good. all programs now on external SD card. also i installed GScript and now all cache for games located on external SD. Also i made that OEM music player and Gallery open all files from SD card without any problem.
and else when i connect Sony Tablet with computer i can also see and use SD cards memory that inserted in tablet.
Are you saying that game data from lets say gameloft goto external sd card?
I have just re tried to install gta and I can confirm the data still goes to internal storage. What gscript did you use?

[Q] Internal Memory(sdcard) not detecting after Cyangenmod

I followed this simple steps
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/...msung-vibrant/
and installed cyanogen mod on my samsung vibrant.
The problem i am facing is that its not detecting my internal 14GB memory.
When i go into clockwork recovery mod, there i am able to mount my memory
and its visible in my pc.
How to make it usable in phone?
I tried with different cyanogenmod rom's nothing make the sdcard (internal memory) detect after phone starts.
One thing is its not cracked, because i am able to access it from recovery when i mount the usb storage using clockworkmod, it displays the contents in computer.
I am confused why this is happening.
Also I was thinking if can i use external SD card to save my camera pictures ?
It does not have camera menu options as storage location.
u just format the sdcard once again in fat32.... partition in pc then again mount sdcard in cwm5.0 n format n do ext4 partition.... after that the phone will detect the 14gb sdcard .............as 7+7 gb .......... in 2 partitions .............keep one for file n other for apps ...........................
---------- Post added at 11:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:02 PM ----------
and for camera create dcim folder in sdcard and again 100andro , camera,screenshots................... then just seee if gives fc.. then jus pm reply
Thanks a lot, it is working now!

[Q] E:Can't open /sdcard/CM10-v9.4.zip (bad) Installation aborted

Hello everyone,
I have been trying to put CM10 on my Xperia 10, unsuccessfully.
My phone is rooted, I have the newest CWM, bootloader unlocked.
I flashed the latest Kernel for CM10 (v21), wiped data/factory reset, wiped catche partition, wiped dalvik catche.
When installing the actual ROM I got this message:
E:Can't open /sdcard/CM10-v9.4.zip (bad) Installation aborted.
I redownloaded the ROM, also downloaded v9.3 rom, still same message (with the name change accordingly, of course).
I formatted my SD card and tried doing everything again: flashing and installing. Didn't help.
I've searched everywhere in this forum for the solution, and several people found it, but it differs from phone to phone it seems, and some of the things I tried didn't work. I found no solutions for X10 specifically.
Any ideas please?
That means the download is bad, you need to re-download the zip.

you have to use cm10.4 rom and 21version kernal.
try to download rom using phone browser like opera mobile.
I guess either your ROM is broken (redownload?) or you need to disable script verification in the recovery.

Thank you, it worked - I was able to install CM10 9.4. However another problem now is present - when I try to turn on my phone, it gets stuck at boot animation (the circle with tha name Cyanogen inside). I have found a post that it happened to someone else and after flashing the phone with kernel20 instead of 21, everything was ok. I did the same - still can't boot. What could I try now?
Solved it: I flashed it again with kernel 20 (used Firefox for downloading it) and it worked!
One weird thing: I got a window asking to enter SIM network unlock PIN, which looked kind of scary. But I pressed dismiss and my phone works and feels like an entirely new device, speed has increased and everything is wonderful.
Thank you everyone for your help

All will be fixed if you format your sd card with SDFORMATTER app.
solved: This problem is for bad sdhc
1-download sdformatter app

Download from that web site. Accept the "End User License Agreement" and download "sdformatter ver 4 for your computer not for your phone". Install it and follow the operation manual that you can download too only if you want.
You will need an adapter (for the micro sdhc) to mount it to your computer. And, don't forget: format option: Full (overwrite) format, format size adjustment on. For instance I have 8 giga sdhc and the format time delayed about 3 hours. That is why I said to have patience.
After the format and the respective FLASH, install all your apps one by one from google play store. Do not use titanium back up or similar app.
Needed: Phone bootloader unlocked and rooted.
SD Formatter 4.0 for SD/SDHC/SDXC
This software formats all SD memory cards, SDHC memory cards and SDXC memory cards. SD Formatter provides quick and easy access to the full capabilities of your SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards.
The SD Formatter was created specifically for memory cards using the SD/SDHC/SDXC standards. It is strongly recommended to use the SD Formatter instead of formatting utilities provided with operating systems that format various types of storage media. Using generic formatting utilities may result in less than optimal performance for your memory cards.
The SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards have a "Protected Area" on the card for the SD standard's security function. The SD Formatter does not format the "Protected Area". Please use appropriate application software or SD-compatible device that provides SD security function to format the "Protected Area" in the memory card.
I have read your aforementioned problem and I am for sure that it is due to a bad SDHC. You need to recover it. If sdformatter can not format (the sdcard) you have to buy a new sdhc.
Follow the FXP installation for the kernel and rom. All will be ok.
In the case that you do not follow the instructions, make a mistake or the third war world start for this recommendations, I ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY BRICKED UP DEVICES OR COMPUTERS! DO ALL THAT ON YOUR OWN RISK!

I've searched everywhere in this forum for the solution, and several people found it, but it differs from phone to phone it seems, and some of the things I tried didn't work. I found no solutions for X10 specifically.
Any ideas please?

[SCRIPT] 78sdext v4 - Mount your sd-ext partition + Incredible swap 16/June/2013

Hello everyone,
78sdext - Mount your sd-ext partition to increase your storage space, without losing performance
Hard gaming?
You need to use Swap!
Note: I am not responsible for any damage!
It is highly recommended to always keep a backup
What it does and requirements:
* 78sdext mounts /data to /sd-ext
* Works with EXT2/3/4 partition
* Moved almost everything to sd-ext partition
* "internal" partition as swap
* Need kernel support sd-ext and swap
* Second partition on your SDcard
Tested in Stock rom
I believe it works in most parts of roms
Feedback please
Because I set swap to internal memory?
Compared with partition SDcard is much faster
* Installation:
Warning, do not rename any files
Remove any script or app to mount sd-ext method (if you have no method in their acting .ext partition is no longer necessary to format the partition /sd-ext. If not, it is necessary)
Download 78sdext_flash (attached)
Reboot in CWM and install
Reboot
78swap can only be used in combination with 78sdext
To use the script swap, just flash the attached file, but ... but ...
you can set the swap size you want to use easily by editing the script before flash
Opening 78swap eg using Notepad++ you will see the following line:
Code:
#Swap size - 1 equals 1MB
size=[COLOR="Red"]256[/COLOR]
as you may have noticed the value of 1 is equivalent to 1MB (I provide my script with the value of 256MB by default)
then just change the number 256 to the desired
Our partition "internal" is 420MB so watch out for that will put the value, you can make sure the space you can use using the application DiscInfo found on Play Store
Note that the first boot when using swap will be a little late, that's because the file is being created at boot, then the higher will take more time (only the first boot)
How to modify the size of my swap partition?
First define the desired size as said shortly ago
Go to the directory /sd-ext/78swap and delete the file swapfile and reboot
* Note: Note if you want to clear dalvik-cache you must do this manually by deleting all the files located in /sd-ext/dalvik-cache and restart (NEW - or flash via CWM the attached file), if you do it through option CWM recovery native the machine will not boot, you have been warned!
You can follow the log that is created in the /sd-ext/local/tmp/78sdext for details
Comments are very welcome
Do not forget to press the Thanks! :good:

it increasing our internal storage?
sorry for my noob..
increasing that way that is moving apps and some stuff to poartition on sd card than you have more free storage on phone.
and it is the same what link2sd but this dont take ram. but link2sd take little of ram and is more functional, we have control on everything. Would try but dont want to format my sd ext

Re: [SCRIPT] 78sdext v2 - Mount your sd-ext partition to increase your storage space
WoW!!! I've tries this and it's awesome I've got 1GB space on my internal and 0.94GB free space but after restored backups from Titanium backup, I still have around 600mb... But I have two problems, my ext-partition is around 800mb but it detects as 400 in titanium backup and why is that? The second problem is when my boot animation plays I get white blank after every animation end point :| other than them there is no such a big errors... Good work! Keep improving buddy!

this is normal in terms
because sd-ext and /data are mounted inverted
on the problem of bootanimation I know of, everything works fine for me
bootanimation which you are using?
Maybe he's not doing this loop you can try another experiment to see if the problem continues
Thanks

Well, last time when I turned on the phone, there wasn't the boot animation error, and I hope it won't return. However I'm using XNXT v7 by Pranav, on Xperia Mini Pro... Yeah everything seems to be perfect so far since nothing is perfect, this far is enough

Sad to tell but it's not as I've expected cuz most of applications don't work at all. . I mean just just exit by themselves... Any idea why?

You mean you didn't get what I meant? If yes, then here is the explanation... When I open some applications on my drawer, then automatically I'm being reverted back to the drawer again I can't use those applications, cuz if touch an option of an app then the application exits without showing any error... By the way when I delete files... I get some notification like this! Check the picture
Note# btw this only happens with some apps, so do you have any idea why cause this trouble?
Btw all I did was restored my backups from titanium backup, that might causing the troubles?

Re: [SCRIPT] 78sdext v2 - Mount your sd-ext partition to increase your storage space
Sorry this post was a mistake... Can you please complain to delete it?
V2 make my lww no signal. Both ics n gb were same No signal. Using this script cant changing kernel easily like b4. I need to full wipe again n again if wanna test other kernel
Any fix ? Can you please attach v1. V1 seem fine, coz my friend did not complain anything bout his galaxy mini
Hello
I assume you are using kernel Kappa right?
If yes, I also encountered this problem, however, with Kernel Panic or Mesa everything works ok
I have contacted Kast about it, and told me he would check
is here a problem with moving apps?
I will decribe. I use link to sd. And set automatically move apps to sd ext. I had problem that app has problem with installing there. When I disabled auto problem has gone.
So asking know with this script anyone did encounter that problem?
Do not have this problem
You can move apps to the SD card normally without any problem

[MOD][GUIDE]Partition your internal memory for better App management (Pit Files)

***************************************************************************************************************
UPDATE 21ST FEBRUARY 2014
Preload special editions with preload area reduced from 500mb to about 45mb, the resulting regained space is then allocated to the internal sd partition. Custom roms only! All data partition sizes have been catered for!
Beware #1 - Preload moddified version are NOT suitable for Samsung Stock Roms!
Beware #2 - Pre-Load moddified versions are for custom roms that do not use pre-load area! Please post on the respective thread for your rom and ask the author the question prior to using these versions if you are unsure! (I can tell you that SlimRoms & Cyanfox do not use preload, at present at least)
Beware #3 - If you want to go back to stock rom, you just need to flash my standard edition pit files, easy!
***************************************************************************************************************
Increase your data application partition and set your device free!
Are you bored of having to move apps to SD?
Bored of facing a stock issue of not even being able to move apps to your internal SD?
This thread will help you, currently only for i9100 16gb Model only.[/COLOR]
GUIDE - The usual rules apply, You will:
IMPORTANT: Please backup all your photos, videos and other important stuff on your PC, in the cloud or somewhere else where it is safe, as all your stuff on your internal SD card will be deleted!
1) Run compatible version of Odin, put your phone in to download mode (vol down/home/power button) and connect to PC via USB
2) Tick re-partition box
3) Click PIT button and select the pit file of your desired app partition size.
4a) Click PDA and select your stock official samsung jellybean rom - Edit- please remember if you use a rom that is not native to your region, it would be wise to flash the appropriate radio modem afterwards to ensure you get the signal strength you'd expect
4b) OR Flash your persnonal choice of kernel in *.tar format and pit file, reboot to CWM ( power button/vol up/home button) and install new rom or restore nandroid and boot as normal and skip to number 9 in this guide
5) Flash and wait for reboot
6) Let the phone reboot and wait until the android chap finishes his spinny wire ball belly animation and then remove the battery and do a factory reset using the usual power/vol up/ home trick.
7) Let it boot so you can check that you are happy with the result. ( I didn't, but you might want to)
8) Now flash your chosen rooted kernel and either stick with stock rom or enter CWM and flash your own custom rom.
9) When your phone boots, you may get a notification to format usb storage, say yes if prompted! If it that fails, connect you phone to your PC and format the the internal sd card manually.
10) Remember that Android likes automatically deciding where apps go, so sometime it tries to put stuff to SD itself (app requests it), it is worthwhile checking your installed apps to makes sure they went to internal app partition, you can tell this by either:
a) Look in Titanium back up, go to the move/integrate section and see if any apps show as moveable from SD to internal, if so run the batch process to put them on your nice new app partition, otherwise you may have issues running those apps.
b) If you don't have Titanium (why not?) then check the harder way by looking at app manager and swipe to the right to look at SD app, sort by size and then individually move ones back to internal storage.
11) That easy! Here is a shot of my resulting app manager
Files attached to post including original pit in case you want it back to stock values!
Enjoy!
*****************************************************************
This awesome!
hey @metalgearhathaway
Thankx for this awesome thread. Will try the guide right now..
Oh also, maybe you should put reboot into download mode as first step
@metalgearhathaway Could you also add pit file that sets whole internal memory for app data, so we could use our fast SD cards as primary memory, please ?
*EDIT*
Followed guide and flashed. Everything went awesome! i flashed 16GB_6GB
Thank you very much.
But when i look in task manager, the app storage sure is 6GB(5.9GB) but my internal storage decreased to 8GB(7.91GB)
IS it possible to have 6GB for apps and still have the 16GB (11.5GB) internal?

Sadly, our phone has 16gb total internal memory, pit files (partition information table) is how it splits this memory, sadly again our phone uses a app partition and then a pretend internal sd partition. This thread is for increasing the app partition to allow more apps to be easily installed without the need to move them about, as you increase the app partition this then naturally decreases the internal sd partition accordingly, hope that makes sense.

I have asked the guy who made these to see if that can be done, I'll let you know if that gets sorted!
Main post update to cover apps that have auto installed themselves to SD partition or card, please read point 9 in main post, cheers!
all great, in guide,
i will use the 4gb split for me, but you must say that user should backup all his roms (sec rom also, as samny rom will kill his system) and internal sdcard before any usage.
to his PC.
or you will get posts like, why my files are gone? i blame you for that, you told me its safe, and now i lost my girl naked picks
Sent from my GT-I9100
Awesome !!!!
Thank a lot for this mod!

It can be done, of course
There has been a thread already, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2353551, but that tut only. It has attached files, but to flash onto cm10.1 at max.
One more question, would partitioning stay after installing a different rom ? I mean, we need sammy JB, then some aosp with Android 4.3.1

Yes the partition remains the same, it will do until the phone is next given a pit file to change.
I have just let a phone upgrade phone 4.0.4 with the partition in place to 4.1.2 and everything remains!

Great. Anyhow, could you find out if phones picks SD card as primary memory with this pit ?
Do I need to flash stock rom or can I flash only the pit with odin give that I must wipe my phone of course..because if it was possible I prefer to do directly on the aosp rom sabermod..but if it is necessary I flash the stock one and then, repartition done, put the aosp plus dorimanx kernel..
subscribed ....i'll use 4gb split too....when i'll find some free time:good:

no PROBLEM here, did backup all, then did what GUIDE say.
and now happy with 4GB data partition.
but when i have booted to SAMMY rom all CLEAN, but internal SDCARD was broken. via MTP i see that disk is exist but size is broken.
so i have flashed my kernel via ODIN, went to recovery, and when recovery loaded, WINDOWS asked me if i like to FORMAT my internal sd.
and it's was 9.50GB size, so i say YES. and all good now. clean partition and i am loading my stuff back.
P.S for OP!
no problem to restore nand backup via recovery
O! and user should flash his best radio firmware as SAMMY comes with other, maybe not good for USER.
