Vice city crashes - Nook HD, HD+ Themes and Apps

Vice city is crashing about 10-30 sec into game play anyone else experience this and have a fix?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app

Yes, I believe my brother has the same problem (I don't use to the tablet, I gave it to my dad, and he lets the whole family use it). Did you download it from the Play Store?
GTA 3 and other games work fine I believe, just GTA Vice City.

I just loaded it up on mine and got the crash. Its probably due to them not designing it to run with this gpu.

The crash is very similar to the crash that happens on the Rezound and several other devices. It apparently has something to do with non-mali GPUs. Rockstar has been saying for a few weeks now that a fix is coming... If it ever comes it's possible that might alleviate the crash. But that is assuming the Nook has a non-mali GPU.

[Q] Could anyone run a Benchmark ?

Please, anyone of you guys that already have the retail version of the phone at UK could run a benchmark ?
There is a picture of this phone getting 3.100 at Quadrant, just curious to know if this is true, thx.
Gimme a sec...

Hey r2001uk
congrats on getting the phone
i wanted to ask, could you try dungeon defenders on your galaxy s ii. Even though dom has tried it and it did not work, for some reason electricpig said it worked smoothly?
anyway could you please try it, its free from the market place:
https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result
Here's a benchmark, (can't upload in-app for some reason):

I'll download DD and see how that goes...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
God that was a long download!
DD doesn't work. Gets through the intro movies, but the main menu is a black screen. Fortunately I know where to tap to set up a game. Once you get to start a game though, it crashes to home screen. No force close, just straight to home screen.
I'll keep it installed in case they update it.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
What bloody device will Dungeon Defenders run on!!!
Well, it works on my SGS 1 just fine
It seeams like the game needs updating. From reading some reviews of the game on the market place, some people say the game is not working properly once they upgraded to 2.3.3 version of gingerbread. These were galaxy s owners.
Even the retail unit can't run DD, why?
But my friend's Galaxy SL is running fine, a bit fps drops from time to time though
hey r2001uk
please could do another favour for me?
could you try the ps1 emulator FPse on the galaxy s ii and try tekken 3
I would like to see how it performs on this beast
thanks in regrads
I have fpse but no games on my card yet, I'll get back to you.
N64oid playing Mario Kart is damn near perfect though, even with sound on.

N.O.V.A. 2 - Google Play Market

DONT DOWNLOAD THIS GAME. IT'S NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE GALAXY NOTE.
bummer... i just got suckered out of 49 cents
There is a 15 minutes return period.

I think you have a short time frame to submit a request for a refund.
Speaking of not compatible... I noticed there's a lot of good games that aren't. Being new to Android for the most part - why is that? Seems like the phone has enough power to run them.

No. Most of the games that "aren't compatible" with the Note would run fine. My Xoom runs these games flawlessly and it has the same resolution on a larger screen and isn't as powerful. The Note is plenty powerful enough and virtually all of those "incompatible" games can be made to work with relatively simple root changes and sideloading. Search around a bit and you can find info on it. N.O.V.A. 2 running on the Note is nothing new....
Good luck.

I've heard that if youchange the build.prop with the international galaxy note like n7000 somehig like thy Cynthiaa think of the top of my head but I heard that would make it "compatible" LOL

I bought this as well. Contacted Gameloft support because the return function didn't refund the app. They gave me a link to download N.O.V.A 2 HD which FC's when you start a new game still trying to get my 49ยข back after a days worth of emails.

I tried changing the build.prop to show as the international version. It worked and allowed me to download the additional game data. Strangely modern combat 3 worked perfect but games such as 9mm and asphalt 6 didnt work correctly. Asphalt had a strange camera angle where you are shifted to the right so itz unusable and 9mm has a pink color on the start screen. Probably due to the different hardware. I downloaded the adittional data for Modern COmbat 3 and changed the build prop back to the att galaxy note. Atleast i got one "incompatible" game to work
This happened to me as well, emailed google 3 times but no reply yet...
I can't even find the game in the market anymore, or in my apps.
please update once anybody gets a refund or get this game to work.
It should say incompatible before you actually pay.. I tried it with one of the other games and I clicked buy it started downloading and when it tried to install aborted and said incompatible, and I wasn't charged even though I authorized purchase...
Just side load. Did it with nova off my a500

Non compatible games really starting to get to me.

First it was Angry Birds Star Wars. Now, I can't download Modern Combat 4 or GTA Vice City for this phone.
Why can't this phone play those games? I am beginning to get annoyed with this.
-DJ
Because its the first 1080p display and devs haven't worked on it to accommodate yet.
Also, Angry Birds Star Wars HD works. Just gotta shell out cash for it. Which is why I haven't bothered with it. It's a time killer at work, but not worth money to me.
I have the paid version of Angry Birds SW HD and as soon as I click on a level, the app exits. I hear this is the norm for DNA owners.
I just want to play the games, they don't have to make it 1080p for me to enjoy them. If it's the screen ratio they are worried about, just either stretch it or black bar it on the screen.
All you could do is email the app developer about it. Though as it stands now, a very very small percentage of android users have a 1080p display so the incentive for developers to update their apps to accommodate it is very minimal. Such is the downside of the early adopter. Of course, it will get much better is 2013 as most high-end phones are likely to come out with 1080p displays.

dont think of the resolution as much as the Pixel density... here is a list of pixel density of just about every phone is under 300ppi or just above... Iphone retina displays are 326... samsung Galaxy s3(306ppi) and Note 2(267ppi) .... I almost think app developers are scared to let us download it and it look like crap so they just lock it out from the market... MC4 looks great and plays awesome on my DNA but the fact that I had to buy it on my Nexus7 and transfer the backup to my DNA to get it to work is alot of work. Hope they get around to figuring this out sooner than later.

I can't run Reign of Amira on the phone. It loads for 3 second and just stuck on a screen with girls pic, without menu. May be it is restricted to Verizon users only? Could it be possible? Cause when i try to download it from Play, it says - available only for Verizon... Any idea how to run it?
Angry birds star wars doesn't work. It will run and let you get to the menus but as soon as you click level one it crashes with absolutely no error message whatsoever

It would look exactly the same on a DNA as any other 1080p device. It would actually look better on the DNA than on a tablet because the pixels are closer together.

Vice City and other games incompatible

Putting this under the many issues I am having with the switch to Android from iOS. When I check out GTA: Vice City and Real Racing 2 in Google Play, it says my device is incompatible.
Does anyone else get this message? Is there anyway around it?
No, some game devs for some reason havent made their games compatible. Most games are compatible but a small number aren't. The few that aren't compatible should get updates soon.

Pretty sure it has to do with the screens resolution.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
I'm also pretty sure it's due to the 1080p screen. I've seen people with the Asus Transformer Infinity having the same problem. Probably Nexus 10 people too if we look at their forum.
I had the same problem today with a game that i wanted to pay with a friend. I think that the screen had something to do with it buy what really pissed me off is that he is a die hard iphone 5 fan and trolled me by saying "oh look 1080p screen and it cant even run a simple game"..... I was like man **** you lol

Yeah this is ridiculous. 2 months in, and the top games aren't compatible with one of the fastest android phones out now.
Modern Combat 4, NFS: MW, Vice City, Real Racing, and pretty much any EA or Gameloft game.
I'm extremely disappointed.
They need to update soon because this years phones are all going to be 1080p resolution do it shouldn't take long.

Lot of these developers including some big ones are lazy @$$es.
It was same when Note came out and even with many new phones.
Most of the games will work fine even with odd resolution if they are coded properly. Most of the games are. But lot of game devs put device ID checks in Play store. So basically they disable the install of games on new devices. Many times they take their own sweet time to enable the game install on specific device in the name of quality control / compatibility.
But if you have them installed on your older phone which is rooted and pull the APK and put it on the DNA or my Nexus 10, most games work just fine even with high resolution displays. Its just that devs fearing the -ve reviews or bad star ratings in play store stop you from installing the game. When that happens, I usually write to the devs. Many smaller devs actually listen and I found it very surprising that many write back enabling access soon in Play store. But these big game developers who ideally should take less time as they have bigger teams and staff at their disposal are the ones who take more time to do so.
Makes me angry. And I wish Google implements a mechanism where we can get our money back any time in the future by returning the license if our new phones get the incompatibility issues which go on for more than 15 days. There really needs to be something like this.
It does not happen to even new phones with new resolution displays. This thing happened when SGS3 launched, then again with Note 2 as well. Both these phones had traditional display resolution. Still devs disabled the install in play store for a while fearing -ve reviews.
Unless you develop games I don't think you have the right to make that statement...

I have every right to make that statement when I can run the game without problem by pulling apk from old phone on my device but it's install is blocked artificially.
This is not new phenomenon either. Has been happening a lot for year or two now. It's all because they are afraid of ratings.
If you go through the initial days of sgs3 and note as well as note 2 forums you will see discussions on this matter there.
Some game had genuine issues and rather than fix a minor issue some games and apps were blocked for weeks to months at time. But at least they had genuine issues. Many didn't. Some were blocked in the name of exclusivity. Thankfully they couldn't ignore popular Samsung devices for long. But I have seen some lesser known phones having issues for months with installs being blocked for no good reason. Had issues with oppo finder and xiaomi phones in past like this.
And it's usually smaller studios that tend to respond quickly to user complaints when it should ideally be other way around.
It should not take a big studio 3 months to unblock install or patch the game for a new device.
From my Note 2, right in your face....
1080p is the future. not the past. they will be compatible or the market will force them to.
Modern Combat 4 works if you download the apk and sdcard data seperate. If you've already bought the game, I wouldnt think it to be unethical. But I don't condone piracy. This is mot the case for the majority of games that are not available though.
Anyone get the EA Scrabble game to work?

Since there is already a question for this kind of problem, I would like to ask something about another game.
Subway Surfers works kind of bad on my phone, and I don't know why because it worked perfectly by now. Could it be because of it's last updates? The last timed it worked bad I factory reseted my phone, and then the game worked great, now I did this again, and nothing happened.

Maybe you have too many processes that eat your RAM and then other apps may not work properly. Get an app like Clean Master and boost your memory. If it doesn't work try factory resetting your phone. If you don't have a rooted phone your backups won't have the game data so you will lose all your progress.

you won't find them for free (google has implemented license checks and a diversity of anti-piracy things like xapk)...and it is against xda's rule to post links to any site that contains warez/pirated games/apps
