[Q] From AOKP rom to Samsung based rom - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have tried looking for answer to this question but cudnt and gave up in the end.
I currently have GT-I9100 Resurrection Remix JB v3.1.2 [AOKP JB (4.1.2) and want to install Omega v17 Jelly Bean 4.1.2 which i believe is based on samsung XXLSJ.
Do i have to follow certain steps to go from AOKP to samsung based roms or just can just install it directly from recovery.
Thanks.
Avi

Its a great opportunity to learn. Make a backup, flash and try to use it.
The thing is, unless the people who made the ROM dont state explicitly, its really hard to ensure it will work.

Have a look at the OP from the rom-thread. Almost always there are descriptions for how to flash it.
And to make it a little easier: changing roms between AOKP, AOSP or Samsung based roms allways need a full wipe, plus the OP's own recommended steps for flashing.

Most of the time standard 3 steps would be back up, full-wipe, then flash the new rom + gapps.
In case of any failure, you can still restore the back-up-ed rom.

Last but not least which rom shld I try for first time aokp 4.0.4 which one ?
The camera is fine on aokp roms, if u wanna go bk a normal flash through Odin is fine.
I would recommend galaxy nexus f1 rom for ur first stock android rom. Its super smooth and fast

Instead of a new thread for this, I would recommend asking your question in the AOKP ROM thread

Flash another rom like omega. If you cannot actually get loaded put the omega rom on your external card then go into cwm and flash from the external card and you should be fine.

Think you didn't do a data wipe..
Read again all the steps correctly. If you do everything right, it will work.
AND,....
Please do not immediately open a new thread for the first time when it is not working properly. Read, read, read, try, read again, see if it works, if not --> read again and try.
From version 3.0 Resurrection Remix it's based on AOKP and CM10 preview builds, this Jelly Bean releases for SGS3 are highly experimental but also can result stable for most of the users.
This is the second thread of yours, which has been opened without any sense!
i have tried all the possible steps even though i m not able to go through that samsung start page...
i really wanted to install this rom. ihav also formated my internal memory and treid for about 5o times to install it but it always get stuck to that samsung s3 page...
Just reboot that worked for mee.Clean instal wipe data cache and dalvik first reboot no suceces after that second reboot and all running

[Q] Rom switching tip

Hello there, this is my first day with my Samsung Galaxy S III. Coming from the Nexus, x user of S1, S2, Note.
On my Touchwiz rom days, When switching between Touchwiz & AOSP roms, used not to be directly successful. So is it the same case on my S III now ? Like when flashing an AOSP rom, when reverting back, what are the required steps? Thank you. Enjoying this device, the display is just AWESOME
all you have to do is make a factory reset in cwm and flash a zipped custom rom or simply put your mobile in download mode and flash the stock rom via odin.
I just flashed CM10 from Stock 4.0.4 Touchwiz rom. So now basically, if I want to flash a Jelly Bean Touchwiz rom, I just flash in CWM? And when I want to go back from Jelly Bean to AOSP, same thing? - Just trying to avoid bootloops and using Odin or such...TY

Yes you can flash back and forth..........just make sure you WIPE WIPE WIPE correctly. so you do NOT have those issues.
believe it or not improper or not fully wiping your phone before flashing a new rom are alot of the reasons why some people have bugs that others do not.

Quick Dual Boot Question

Hey Guys, Im coming here and well modifying my phone after a long time..I have forgotten few things and just want to reconfirm 2 things about dual booting(as i want to install a new rom side by side). My current kernel is siyah 6.0vb5(the last beta produced for s2). I currently have alliance rom v9 installed which is based on 4.1.2. SO:
1. I wanna dual boot omega rom v24 which is also based on 4.1.2. I can do this dual booting legally right on my siyah kernel version?
2. How does the internal data storage work in case of both the roms? For example, i play temple run on first rom as well as on second rom, so will their save data be saved separately or will be shared?
Thanks for replies in advance
1. You cannot dualboot any jb 412 rom out of the box. It has to be modified but there are modded Roms ready to download. Dorimanx is the kernel for dualbooting jb Roms.
Here you find lots of Roms already prepared:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44449811
2. I think they have different data if they dont link to a server.

Not even if my first rom is a custom rom? Alliance rom v9 currently..
Edit: ok i got it, but i jist have 1 question now..For dual booting, should my second rom be dualboot modified or the first rom? or both?
If you want two jb roms both need to be modified since 4.1.2 uses preload where your second rom would be. If you have a 4.2.2 or 4.3 you dont need to mod it since they dont use preload.
In short: if you want alliance as first rom you must download it premodded and install it. Then you install premodded neat as second rom. If you would use cm aokp or pa rom you dont need to mod it. It works as it is.

Ok so u mean to say if i want to install Resurrection remix 4.2.2 as second rom,i can install it as it is right? No need to have either alliance modded or RR moded?
No you cant. Your alliance( IF not modded) is already using preload so you will probably mess up things. There is alliance v9 modded which i used as second rom. Works well. Dont know IF you can get ota downloads though.
I guess you have to backup your data with TB and wipe your current rom(make nandroid first) and install modded alliance. Make sure it works both as first and secrom first since with the thread i linked before. I always use 422 , 4.3 in first and 412 in second, because at first there wasn't 412 for first ROM so it kind of stuck. RR you can flash as it is. No modding needed.

Ota doesn't work on modded alliance rom. Also a good man to talk to would be @Troubadour666 check his links out. Dorimanx 8.xx Imo is best for dualbooting.

Galaxy Grand Duos Upgrade (ROMs)

Hi, I'm now facing a problem with my Galaxy Grand Duos. It was initially on the 4.1.2 stock ROM. I tried many ROMs for 4.2.2 until I found the ROM that best suits my need which is the RR (Resurrection ROM) and it's now working normally, but the problem is that now, I need to install the 4.2.2 (leaked firmware), I found the files and followed all the tuts I found, but in videos and such they get the message "success" and I get the message "fail", I don't know what's the reason behind this, I tried changing USB ports, changing the cable, I tried nearly everything, but no avail. So basically, I now need 4.2.2 (leaked) or any KitKat (4.4) ROM, I want Carbon or SlimKat, but both require coming from a KitKat ROM (which is not my case) or 4.2.2 TW ROM, I don't think RR (Resurrection Remix) is a TW ROM, so what should I do? I need to know one of them, the KitKat or the 4.2.2 (leaked).
Thank you.

What do you mean? I wipe data cache and factory reset each time I install a new ROM. Not a specific or useful answer actually.
