Q: Android Revolution HD 17.1 and missing STweaks - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone.
I installed Android Revolution HD 17.1 (with perseus kernel) and in changelog it says "Fixed missing STweaks from Perseus kernel" but i cant find it anywhere, i downloaded one from marketplace but it says "Sorry, no kernel support" so is the STweaks somewhere but i cant find it or is it something else i dont understand?
Link to Revolution thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334
Thanks already.

Does the rom include perseus kernel? I think you have to flash the kernel yourself. Then you'd see the stweaks app as the changelog mentions.

Yes it does, at install aroma gives choice for perseus or stock. And i checked that perseus is indeed installed. I have checked apps but did not find stweaks there, multiple times.

In that case, you might want to flash thr kernel yourself and see if that solves anything.

I am thinking about doing that but i would first like to know from people that are using Revolution that do they have STweaks installed.
And another question, is it possible anyhow to download STweaks from anywhere that supports perseus?

I have the same problem. I need to set an option that I know STweaks is able to set but Perseus (included into Revolution) isn't compatible with that APP.
I read in some post (maybe the ROM's official one) that is not advised to flash another version of the kernel because the rom lost all optimization.

Yeah, try siyah kernel with (voltage control,exTweaks)
gokhanmoral.com
Not a proper custom kernel as of yet as kernel sources have not been released once sources are out expect custom kernels.
not sure if this helps
Chainfire Kernel works pretty well
Check the link in the post

[Q] Kernels and kernel settings

I recently rooted my SGS3 international version. It is now running PA3 with Siyah kernel. I installed an app called Franco kernel updater and now I don't know what to do with it. Can someone tell me what I can do with this app and how changing kernels affect my phone? I'm new to this.
Thanks.
- Vishnu.
Check in the apps description in the play store, all described there.
For kernels do some reading in the dev forum and stickies.

You're using the wrong kernel; I saw in the Supernexus thread you stated you're on siyah 3.4.2
That's your problem there, it's outdated. Use AJK or STI.

Sir, unless you're personally crafting your own siyah derivations for this phone, only the AJK or STI kernels work on 4.3 roms.

This may not relate to you anymore, because I see you may have moved on to AJK in another thread, but that siyah version you were trying to use on Supernexus 3 was for the 9100 AND ICS, so it wouldn't have worked for you.

Gallery (and camera) is messed up on SuperNexus 3. It doesn't matter which kernel. Hopefully an update will be out eventually.

Flashing new kernel how todo know if its safe

As the title says, I've used siyah vsync previously on my rom recently updated it and don't know if it still work with it, in case it's not compatible anymore would I lose recovery or brick my phone?

Hi,
it would be good to know which rom you are using. If you are not sure siyah kernel runs with your rom, check the version and look in the siyah thread if it runs with it

If the kernel is incompatible with the ROM, you wouldn't be able to boot. But recovery and download modes should still be accessible.
But if the kernel is incompatible with your device, you could end up with a bricked phone!

In case you're trying to use this kernel in CM 10.2/Android 4.3, it won't work. But it doesn't matter since CM kernel for this device is based on blade kernel. So just use the one included in the rom.zip

No it's 10.1.3 . If it's not different , are there other kernels? I can't find any.

Ok, another thing is, that CM requires ramdisk changes in comparison to other AOSP roms, which is probably the reason it does not work. But also here the CM kernel is based on maxwens blade kernel, you have all features and options from blade kernel with the kernel included in rom.zip.

yeah but I just wanted a kernel that would allow me to tweak stuff like voltage and number of active cores , as the one that comes with CM roms usually don't allow that

It is the same kernel! Only with some Ramdisk changes to make your phone boot with CM installed, you have all those features if you use the kernel from inside the rom zip file!

Last try to explain it to you: the kernel included in CM rom.zip is the blade kernel by maxwens, there are only some very small changes to get it booting with Android 4.3 and some Cyanogenmod related things. CM does require certain kernel changes (not really kernel but ramdisk, which is also included in the boot.img) in order to get the kernel working. So as is said the kernel in the rom.zip file is the blade kernel with all of it's features, only some minor modifications were made (you won't notice any of them) to make it work with Cyanogenmod 10.2.
Now I get it, thanks
