[Resolved} Siyah-s2-v6.0b4 Kernel 4.2.1 JB VERY slow at booting and throwing errors - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed CM 10.1 on my Samsung S2/II i9100 and put on the Siyah-s2-v6.0b4 Kernel What happened? My phone was stuck on the boot but it did show me the Samsung logo but goes dead/blank and at times it booted up and freezing up with errors The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
The good news is i got it back to work! but i would like to share on how i got the phone back to life/work! to help someone out there that has the similar problem.
So heres how i got it back to work!
You will need:
An SD card reader (for transferring files)
Samsung Kies installed
Odin3 v3.04 program
recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-galaxys2.tar
cm-10.1-20130105-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip
Gaaps - gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip[/url] - you dont need this if you dont use Google Talk/Play Store!
Heres what you need to do to get your phone up and running!
Put your phone into recovery volume down/back/power all pressed in until your greeted via a Custom ROMs hit volume down
connect the phone to the computer (make sure you have Samsung Kies installed 1st!
Start the Odin3 v3.04 program and browser for recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-galaxys2.tar under Bootloader
hit Start and you should see a green Kernel PASS!
Plug in your SD card reader and slot the Micro SD itself from the phone
Transfer all files cm-10.1-20130105-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip and gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip to the SD card
Put the SD card back into the phone
Hold volume up --> Back and Power and Wait for the samsung logo, let go of the Power! and keep hold until your greeted by the CMW Recovery?
Scroll down to Wipe data/factory reset and hit the power button
Scroll down to Wipe cache partition and hit the power button
Go to install zip from SD card
and browse to cm-10.1-20130105-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip and hit power and hit Yes
let it do all is stuff
browse to gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip and hit power and hit Yes
let it do all is stuff again
then go back to Reboot
All done and you should be greeted by a spinning cyanogenmod logo and goes into 4.2.1 JB by cyanogenmod 10.1
Enjoy, Hope i have help someone!

That Siyah version is only meant for roms based on the JB-leak.
The Volume Down+Home+Power is btw Download Mode, not Recovery
Nice intention to help people.

What on earth are you talking about?
You have no need to do any of that crap. All you need to do reboot into download or recovery mode and flash correct kernel and system will boot fine.

I couldn't find a compatible Kernel with 4.2.1!! Siyah-s2-v6.0b4 worked but was VERY slow!

It's the method he's talking about. You could've done it more easily, so as an advice to others it's not really usefull. Siyah v6.0b4 isn't meant for 4.2.1 but for the JB-leak from Samsung.

That's because Siyah kernel doesnt work with 10.1. You need to flash Phillz kernel and dont do it the way you put in first post, its all completley pointless.
Just reboot into recovery or download mode and flash Phillz or other JB leak supported kernel if you want to use leaked Sammy JB.

Or if you had access to the Siyah recovery, you simply could have flashed back your CM nightly. This would have overridden the Siyah kernel with the CM kernel.
I had the same problem yesterday, I installed SiyahKernel S2-v5.0.1 on CM10.1. Didn't see it was not for Android 4.2...

plz rtfm syiha = 4.1.2 leak only
syiha kernel work like a charm with 4.1.2 leaked. i use it in beta 4 and work very well without fc and nice reactivity.
i always use syiha kernel and always satisfied.
please flash a clean 4.1.2 leak before.
and btw if you dont understand what you are doing or dont read syiha disclamer/scope plz stay in native stock phone.
and finaly , plz say thx to the dev even you have problems becose it publish is kernel for dev not for end users.

Hi,
So there's no Siyah for 4.2.1?
What other kernel options do we currently have for 4.2.1 JB and dual boot?
Thanks!

No,you can use Siyah for 4.2.1. I have 4.2.1 and I use the latest Siyah-v5-MCM-i9100-vsync.
You can download it here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cm10i9100vsync/files/kernel/
It works just perfect for me,very fast and good battery life.

There is Siyah for 4.2.1, click here. Been working great for me.

The kernel linked at www.gokhanmoral.com dates back to November, how comes?
Thank you (both) for the link. I installed "Siyah-v5-MCM-i9100-vsync_sysfs-20130115.zip", worked like a charm.
:good:

Thank you so much!
Thank you so much I tought I had my phone bricked and now it`s working like a charm...
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

i know you had good intentions when posting this as your main purpose was to share your successfully recovery of your phone BUT this op is really full of misinformations...
as it was stated most steps are absolutely unnecesery in this situation (including the starting situation which would never happen if you RTFM)
so as a closing statement:
- Siyah-s2-v6.0b4 is ONLY for Samsung leaked JB Rom
- procedure after flashing non compatible kernel:

[Q] Please help.. Wifi issue.

Hey guys, posted a thread the other day. But didn't get much of an answer. But now am back with a different question. Anyway, long story short. My girlfriend is a goose and swapped a perfectly good iPhone (wait what, how can an iphone be good - i know, i know) for a samsung galaxy s2. It kept turning off and wifi doesnt work.
I done an update to 4.0.3 using odin and that stopped the constant turning off, but wifi is still not working.
Now what I would like to know it, if i change the modem firmware in it, will it fix it ? Could I just try different firmwares until I works ? Would downgrading to say 2.2 possibly fix the issue ? (It was originally 2.3.5)
Please help, if you need information, just post and ill reply )

Im assuming you've tested the router with other devices to eliminate that? It sounds as though the warranty is already void so it could be a good excuse to root & install cwm5 if you haven't already. Like was already mentioned wifi is kernel related so i would recommend installing a recently released aokp (preferred) based rom with whatever kernel is provided. If you're still having the problem try installing different kernels from there on in. Remember to flash a kernel cleaning script before flashing the new kernel. If the problem persists it could be hardware related. Good luck bud !

Yep, the wifi just doesnt turn on at all. switch to on, and it switches off straight away. Is CWM5 (clock work mode ) If so I have that. Could you please link me to a aokp based rom. I'm sorry for being a hassel, just very new and hoping to get this issue cleared up asap, because it is a great phone. Also confused as to flashing a kernal cleaning script ??

No hassle m8 only problem is im on my touchpad so can't send you links. From xda enter i9100 (device) go android development then look for resurrection remix 2.2 Download file place it in downloads "internal" (easy to find) then boot into clockwork recovery. Firstly make sure you backup current rom! After that's done follow these instructions carefully.
Wipe data/Factory reset
Wipe cache
(from advanced) Wipe dalvik cache/battery stats
(from mounts/storage) format cache/data/system
Go to 'install zip from sd card'
Go to 'choose zip from internal'
Install 'resurrection remix'
Reboot then setup Google accounts etc.... Then reboot again & wait 5 mins.
As for kernel cleaning script try this 1st then see how you go.. I'm off to bed m8 good luck with everything!

[Q] problem installing kernel on s2

Hi
I have a galaxy s2 i have rooted it using method 1 with supersu and busy box http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794
That work i then went to install CyanogenMod 10 but it says to check for mmc brick bug and my phone has it. I am noob and cant get a new kernel to install they have an error saying e:\ sig not signed or something like that.
I have odin3 on my pc but am unsure how to use it i also found a signed kenels on this page but unsure which one to get http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270
my phone specs are
model gt-i9100
android version 4.0.4
baseband version i9100xxlq6
kernel version 3.0.15-i9100xwlpt-cl941023
build nuber
imm76d.xwlpt
If anyone can tell me which kernel i should use so it will be safe to flash CyanogenMod 10
or a step by spet way to use odin and install the kernel in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555259

You are right, go for SiyahKernel (latest) (safe -> no mmc) Flash it with Odin.
That will give you a safe kernel with Root then you can follow instruction in CM website (CM10 zip + gapps) to get a working CM10.
Search XDA for more help. There are lots of articles on this!
Same prob here..

rom advice (wifes phone)

this is my wifes phone (I have a Note) I want to know what rom I can go to that is very stable , prefer ics :
Samsung SGH-I777
2.3.6
I777UCKK6
2.3.35.14
GINGERBREAD.UCKK6
sorry but I dont generally mess with her phone , she does have root and cwm touch 5.5.0.4 . There seems to be a wifi problem it turns on and then off , never sticking , I suppose wiping all might help , I hate seeming naive but when I mess with my own phone its all a chance , I dont want to just do that with hers!
There are a lot of stable roms. Do you want touchwiz based or AOSP based? I don't have an opinion on AOSP roms because I've barely used any of them.
For Samsung based roms, Shoman94's roms are very stable and popular. That's what I use as my daily driver. For ICS, use SHOstock2, but for the latest JB use SHOstock3.

When you flash a new ROM you will have to wipe. Also that's caused by using a foreign kernel aka one from galaxys2root.com

If I remember correctly, I think that version of the Siyah kernel was put out by zedomax on GalaxyS2Root website. That kernel combined with UCKK6 was always a problem. In fact, that package was always a problem.
Anyway, the kernel has ClockworkMod Recovery. You should decide on a good rom, as discussed above, download the zip file and use usb to transfer it to the sdcard on the phone, then boot into recovery, perform a wipe data/factory reset, and flash the rom. It doesn't matter that you are on Gingerbread right now. You can flash either an ICS or JellyBean rom because the package will contain the complete system and kernel and modem, everything.
---------- Post added at 07:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:08 PM ----------
Enter recovery by holding down all three of vol + vol - and power buttons continuously until it boots into recovery. If it won't boot into recovery, then it might be a bad flash.
Thank you, I got the siyah kernel from a thread here, when I first got the phone (off ebay )it did in fact have the wrong kernel,I used entropy flash back to get back,I guess I did something else, but I will use one of the roms you mentioned ,glad we have you here ,I've been messing with wp7 the last few years and finally getting back to android (cept been playing with boot loaders in a500)

It is exactly that, a counter, and the only purpose of it as far as we know is warranty protection, so I would say no, it's not important. On the other hand, most folks don't like the splash screen with the yellow triangle, but you can remove that easily enough if you still get it on boot.

No. You also need to install a custom kernel that contains ClockworkMod Recovery. Please read through the guide "How to install custom firmware without incrementing the flash counter" (link in sig) because it will help you see how things fit together.

Did u update via kies or odin?
If u used a firmware and flashed via odin, please try another firmware.
Over this try to do a factory reset after u flashed the FW.

Well your phone is i9100g... You sure you flashed ROM of i9100g and not of galaxy s2 i9100...coz many people make that mistake..
Post this in the i9100g...idk how much we can help you with this..
Anyways, try factory resetting the phone...if no luck take it to Samsung customer care...it can be a hardware problem. ..
And ya, which ROM are you flashing? The official stock ROM or custom ROM?
Custom ROM do have many bugs and vary from phone to phone. .. Try going to stick for one and check if problem is still there. .
Press thanx if I helped...

cannot post on i9100g dev becoz my post still under 10...
im sure i flash the right rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679636
ya..done factory reset but still got the problem...
like i said before..the touchscreen work fine if i plugin charger or connect usb to pc/laptop...
i dont think it becoz hardware problem since it work perfect on stock GB, stock ICS, aokp, CM and 4-5 other custom ROM...
can it becoz of battery? i use 1650mah...i have try 1500mah and touch screen getting more worst...
i still cant find any solution for my phone..
already try many method like
- using re-partion on odin with pit file
- format data, system, cache, emmc
- wipe data/factory reset/dalvic cache
- flash using odin/cwm
- root/unroot
after done all above..touch screen laggy and still make dash line on drawing...
after my last post...i have try most rom on Galaxy S II I9100G Android Development Section and my touchscreen on all rom are working perfect except official stock JB or custom rom base on stock JB...
forgot to mention that the day on my 1st time installing stock JB i accidently flash Galaxy tab 2 p3100 firmware and got softbrick
but successfuly unbrick then done flashing stock JB...dunno if this incident can damage my phone...
or is other way to make FULL FORMAT internal SD? to make sure the file that i accidently flash completely remove...

Search for nuke script and see if you can nuke your device.

you could try Blazing Kernel, it can be flashed via stock recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113545.
Or you could also flash original GB and upgrade to JB either through OTA or KIES.

I have tried that two methods, Flashing GB (everything works great), flashing ICS (everything works great too), and then JB trough OTA and the touch screen doesnt work properly. I have tried the last Blazing Kernel too without success.
Thanks for the help.
Any ideas?
Try stock kernel. Customs aren't ready yet.

Dosent work either. :/
We have the same problem dude, touch screen not working properly after stock jb (xef) flash but working flawlessly when phone is plugged. I can't have a custom rom above 4.2.1, else I have the problem. Now I'm on CM10.1 4.2.1 and can't leave it because of this, the official rom I want is the official.
Did you got the screen of your phone replaced ? Because mine was and I was wondering if it was that.

Not sure if it was replaced because I bought it used on ebay.
But are you using CM10.1 4.2.1 without touch screen problems? Can you tell me the date of the release so I can try to flash my phone with that ROM?
Thanks
Yeah without touch screen problem. It's 20130213 nightly

I would think twice about either leaving it stock or getting the power button fixed, because if you mess up and need to get into recovery or download mode(bootloop for example), you are going to have a **** of a time. At least get yourself a usb jig and also familiarize yourself with using adb. Anyways...
First you'll need to flash the modified philz kernel from HERE to get root access. Read carefully, especially the second and third posts. You will have to match the kernel to the stock rom version you are using. Depending on which custom rom you want to install, you'll probably need to then flash a newer recovery, but take your time and read up as much as you can on the steps to take in flashing etc from the OP's and other threads and you should be ok. Follow each step to the letter, as you don't want to mess anything up with no power button!!

Yes there is, but not a standalone zip. You need to flash a kernel that has twrp like apolo or gustavo kernel.

Gustavos doesn't work, only works on later android. I'm not 100% sure apolo will work on stock rom either, it might. It definately works on custom touchwiz 4.1.2 roms such as neatrom(from 4.x branch). The philz kernel from the link I posted earlier(XWLS8) has touch ui if that is your main need. Only it would need to be updated if you were to try flashing a 4.4 or 5.x rom later though.
Apolo thread
Apolo works on stock 4.1.2. You need apolo v4.15b
Even if everything goes ok, the OP might still end up with a boot loop......In which case he's still gonna need all the buttons to boot into recovery to wipe data........
I've lost count of the number of times I've advised getting hardware repaired BEFORE flashing stuff......I owned the S2 and flashed it to within an inch of it's life, but I wouldn't have even considered flashing with broken buttons........
Get it repaired, it really will stop you facing problems.......
