VZW Reps are oblivious - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Not speaking about all reps. But most if not all I have encountered dont know
Sh0t. I call them about carrier billing. It is not working for me for some reason. They first want to check my imei/meid to see if my device and line support it. I am put on hold for 5 minutes and they come back stating they cant find a way for me to access these items. I tell them either on back under battery or in about phone under settings. They so OK, then ask me to read it. We proceed to featuers blocked on my line. They say the only thing blocked is the MBBN. I ask if that will block billing and he says I honestly dont know. I then ask him if I need to contact the FCC. He then asks "What is a FCC?" I say really... so then I have to explain to him what that is. Subject never gets resolved. Moral of this story, might not want to look to VZW for certain support info. Anyone else ever encounter a problem like this with VZW support.

All the time. In store I had a rep tell me that their verizon intuition had "way better" the specs then the note 2. I loled

I think I would have had a natural reflex and slapped them

A lot of techie stores are like this. The people working there know sqwak and then like to give people that do know stuff dirty looks. Whenever I'm in a Best Buy with my dad and a rep comes over we tell them we're fine and my dad always makes a joke like "I'm fine with him, he knows everything." The reps just glare me down. Most of them stand next to the info tag and read directly from it to the customer they're helping which is pretty sad.
They give jobs to 20 year olds that still say "axe" instead of "ask," use other slang/ghetto speak, and don't know the difference between two TVs besides one is LG and LCD the other is Sony and LED, but don't accept the 17 year old that goes to a prestigious high school in the area and who's resume shows tech experience.

Any sales experience? Pretty sure 6 months is required. I applied with 1 year of sales and IT experience and said no after they wanted to make me a cashier.
Best Buy is terrible anyway. I ordered the Collector's Edition of Diablo 3 at a store that was closing (found out 3 weeks after I ordered) and got an email that I needed to call them to change the store or ship it to my house. I called them 5 times and opened 2 cases. They couldn't get it changed or shipped to my house because of a glitch it the system. 2 days before the game came out they said they would "send it to the correct department for viewing" and yeah... never got it.
Verizon is terrible about knowing about their phones (in or out of the store). When I bought my Thunderbolt, the first rep said I didn't have a discounted upgrade (literally saw it on her little tablet thing that I did) so I went to the next rep and he didn't know how much internal storage their was. Needless to say, I've ordered online since then.

A friend of mine works at the Target Mobile kiosk; he literally knows crap-all about phones, owns an old smartphone he's never turned on, and whenever I'm there talking to him, I end up telling the customers more about the phones they look at than he does. Which is why I work in a car wash, and he tries to sell people tech he doesn't understand. It's practically a joke by now.

Did you really pull the FCC card because of an account snafu?
That makes you as ridiculous as the rep.

That's about what i was thinking.

A lot depends on the customers attitude.
A buddy of my Son's works at BestBuy. He and all his coworkers are great guys.
I stop in there all the time to shoot the breeze with those guys.
As long as you don't go in there with a "know it all" attitude, I find the BB guys are all helpful & a pleasure to talk to.
Some of them are tech geeks & others are not so knowledgeable but they don't pay sh!t so that's understandable.
I have had some great tech B.S. sessions concerning ROMs, locked bootloaders etc with these guys.

You are right about attitude as well. When I exchanged my DNA for my Note II, I could have berated and slammed the rep working with me that was telling me that KLP source was online, but instead I just lightly conversed with him and ignored it.
As a result, I was in and out quickly without any troubles.
Be careful how you treat people who are in a position to screw you. He could have easily nixed my unlimited data because I was getting in through a loophole.
About 10 years ago I worked for MS doing tech support. If a customer was a douche to me (or acted like a know it all), the resolution immediately became format and reinstall the OS. If they hung up on me, I put it in the notes and as a senior tech, others listened to me. However, if you were acting decent and respectful, I would fix your OS without reinstalling it and potentially losing data.

Technically they are both LCDs, just with different backlighting.

LOL, I can relate to that.
A number of years ago I did some tech support for HP Pavilion desktops.
Same thing, if the customer was a douche I would simply tell them the only fix was to run the recovery disc which was the same thing as a format and OS reinstall.
Some of the customers where great however and with them I occasionally spent hours on the phone with them, walking a novice through basic PC troubleshooting etc.

I work at a store and me and one other guy knows what we're talking about...so yeah you get about a 5 percent chance of the reps knowing anything, but as a guy said before me it's easier to be nice to the rep and probably get what you want than to be a Douche and end up getting nothing and possibly losing something.

No offense to anyone, but if you know enough to be here at XDA there should be no reason to step foot inside a store or call tech support. I buy all my gear online and If I call tech its because I already know it's gonna be a warranty replacement. I do the little song and dance on the phone, and a couple days later the phone shows up.

Yep, I really don't get the folks trying to buy stuff in stores or calling tech support. It's literally just someone reading a screen, there is no such thing as tech info you can't find yourself online and quicker than tech support. Sad but true.

The moral of this story is:
Be nice to the guys at the store or on the phone. They make less than you do, and they have to deal with a hundred people just like you every day. They don't owe you anything but if you're cool they'll help you out. Oddly enough this is a lesson which can be applied to human interactions everywhere in your life.

Most tech supports have a database of issues that have occurred in the past and how to fix them (not found on Google). There are also things that can happen that is beyond the user's control. I didn't get a delivery notice from Verizon for my Note 2 so I called them and found out there was a bug in the system and we had to resubmit it. If I had your way of thinking on the matter I would have never got my phone.
Just because many people here at XDA don't need tech support, doesn't mean the majority of people don't. You can see this in most mod/ROM threads. Lots of people ask questions because they have issues and the communuty helps them out (basically tech support). I work in IT and some people don't know anything about electronics eventhough they work with them everyday.
Not trying to attack you guys or anything, just trying to bring the real world to a tech forum since I help them every day.

Sprint Store Fools

I went in during lunch to grab an Evo 3D. The guy kept trying to sell me cases and chargers and I kept saying "no thanks, just the phone."
As he was ringing it all up I remembered the new HDMI deal and that I would need a new cable now because my 4G one wouldn't work. I asked if they had the HDMI cable and he told me the phone did not support HDMI.
I asked him if he was sure and he said "there is no HDMI on the phone, only wireless HDMI." News to me. I told him I understood that it supported HDMI over the micro USB port. He told me that it did not support HDMI in any way and had another employee come over to tell me the same thing and that they were trained on the phone and Sprint said it didn't support HDMI.
I had been researching several phones so thought maybe I had my facts mixed up and checked online. After confirming the HDMI capabilities I dropped the subject, but he kept wanting to bring it up so I told him "HDMI is supported over the Micro USB port, I just confirmed it on Sprint's website" and showed him the page. He then proceeded to argue with me about it until he was done ringing up the phone - I just kept saying "okay, that's fine, whatever, etc." He finally conceded that "maaaaybe someone has invented some sort of adapter, but we don't carry things like that..."
I walked over to the wall, and proceeded to bash my head against it until it was a bloody pulp.
Okay that part isn't true.
After that he tried to force me to buy the protection plan even after I explained I already had coverage. Then he wanted to argue about how my coverage was not sufficient even though he didn't know a thing about it.
Overall the purchasing process was quick and painless, but dealing with the employee was a major headache. Sprint does a great job of publishing their specs, now they just need to get their employees to study up a bit before spreading bad information.
In a related topic, I'm finding the MHL cables online are frakkin expensive. Is there any place I can get one for less than $20 or so?

Your Sprint store staff must have taken the same training classes as my Sprint store's staff. I go in there with questions which I pretty much know the answer to and just want a 'yes we do' or 'no we don't' or 'not yet' or 'next week' regarding availability of a phone or a cable or accessories or whatever and get the same knowitall responses. Even though I know better I am polite enough to not turn into a knowitall back at them. It's just rude and accomplishes nothing...espeically with another knowitall on the other side and yes even in the face of evidence to the contrary they will tell you the wrong thing.
I just want a clear cut answer to availability of something and usually get told something that is either a complete lie to cover up a lack of availability or desire to help me or worse yet someone who actually thinks what they are saying is true.
I'm sure there are Sprint stores that are a shining example of what real CS is about. This store has one such employee, great guy, very informed and 'big picture', great to talk to....but he's never around....but either way, this store is no such shining example.

Yeah, employees will do that, it looks good for them, and depending on the store (possibly, most) they get a commission on the accessories, a bigger one then selling the phone. when I got my Evo3D the chick was nice, a joy to work with, but knew NOTHING about the phone, but kept trying to sell me cases, and screen protectors, the insurance, chargers, you name it, it was offered. she even offered some things that the phone didn't support. Super friendly, no tech knowledge.
They realize that some of us who are unemployed *cough cough* have BOTH these skills..right? *sigh*
Here is the one from Sprint. I'll find the cheaper one in a minute for you.

Yea the first thing Sprint needs to teach its salesman is the phrase "I'm not sure on that" or "let me grab the spec sheet and we'll take a look." Making things up and then defending them even when you've been shown the facts makes you sound stupid.
I tried not to get pulled into a debate about it, but it bothered me that they were giving out bad information.
im semi fortunate at my sprint store 3 of the CSRs are rooted so they know a little about the phones, but as whole they know crap.. and i know some of them have xda so they may read this.. but the last 2 phones that i purchased there (3d for myself and shift for another line) i knew more than they did about the phone.. they are cool enough, but its like they are trying to be cool with it.. one guy was so intently trying to show me CM7 on his orig EVO, after i had said that i had it on my previous phone.. he kept telling me all the benefits of rooting, like i didnt know, after he saw me boot up my old phone with a custom splash screen, boot screen, and i had told him that it was rooted up front..
but then again he also told me that he didnt know what adb really was.. that he did everything he could to stay away from it.. that he only wanted one click root methods..
but i am fortunate to have 3 rooted fellows there, so i dont catch grief for being rooted.. and they are friendly, just not the most knowledgable..
EDIT: i just let them think they are right if they try to debate me, its not worth it.. they get paid and i dont, so i usually let it drop fairly quickly..

Now, ultimately, as a life long geek I know my specs and have everything pretty much hammered down when I go in there. It's merely a matter of availability, price, upgrade statuses, promotion eligibility, etc, with a light smattering of haggling and charm for maximum effect. Aside from them being slow, which is only slightly annoying, their complete ignorance of their own product line and accessories is merely annoying...
...but what riles me up is when somebody who isn't as knowledgeable and prepared as myself walks in there and I hear one of these clueless hucksters fire up the bull**** machine and start telling people things they want to hear which aren't true or things people don't want to hear (which also aren't true) in an effort to up-sell them on a more expensive phone or service...and in either scenario it seems it isn't them being shady so much as truly uninformed...and then they pass off that lack of information onto someone else with a heftier price tag and perhaps pointless monthly service fee both predicated on the customer relying on the expertise of the CSR who is nearly as ignorant.
...yes, it grinds my gears...

Being someone who works at a Sprint store I know just as much if not more than some of the people who frequent the forums just because I'm on both sides of the fence. In that guys defense...he DOES work on commission. And he makes more on selling you accessories than he did by selling you the phone. Just the way it is...so obviously he's going to try and upsell. We have bills to pay just like you do and thats how we pay them. Some customers buy more...some dont. You're one who doesnt obviously.
As far as knowledge goes...I hate the fact that some of these guys dont know jack from sh*t. It gives the rest of us a bad name. When helping a customer...I give it to them straight. If I dont know and it hasnt been communicated directly from Sprint...thats what I tell them. I'm not going to lie, make something up or cover anything. I feel a customer will respect the fact that they might be asking something that Sprint just hasnt provided an answer for. If they cant then screw them.
It sounds like you all just need to find "that guy" in your local Sprint stores. I would assume every store has one. I'm not a pushy salesman...I'm a real one. I'm going to tell it like it is. I'm going to try and upsell but I wont push you into a purchase. If you decline a case...then go outside and drop your phone...thats on you. But dont come to me when you're screen is cracked and you declined both the insurance AND the case. I told you so....

I would, as long as there are no other customers around. If they can't be properly trained, then i'll gladly give them some free training and jab to the ego. If you throw it back at them with proof, then maybe it'll get them to do some research and stop them from misinforming the next person.

You are the guy I look for whenever I go into any store with sales associates. Typically every store has at least one.
I started out my first real job at 16 at a computer shop (that I would years later run, for the most part). I got the job because I had technical skills. Well, at a small shop you also have to answer phones and be a salesman. I learned early on the hard way. Shoot straight, give people options and try to do it on a level that they understand and is relavent to their life...but the biggest and hardest lesson was being in a technical position and learning how to confidently say "I don't know", come to find out that appears to be the single most difficult thing for almost anyone on the planet to do, especially at work, triply so if they work at a job that has any technical element to it.
There is no shame in not knowing, there is shame in bullshitting. Getting called out on it a few times you would figure would be enough for anyone to learn that lesson. Sadly that's not the case.
You rock on being "that guy", cuz you are the guy I look for when I go somewhere to buy something...you can help a technical guy like me because you have information beyond mere specs. You can help a non-technical person, because you can translate specs into real-language that makes sense to each customer and most of all you can say "I don't know, let me find that out for you." Where most people would be afraid to say "I don't know" for fear of looking uninformed to the customer YOU know that the customer will feel reassured to hear "let me find that out for you."

Hell, you don't need degrees in any IT job.

Agreed
I've been a salesmen for about 4 years and the first thing they teach in any training class is KNOW your products inside and out to avoid confusing the customer or false information and to educate to the customers features they may not know about....
Second is to know your customers needs and wants... Obviously ties into the first one but some of the sprint reps I talk to try to upsell will no good points other than "it helps you"
I'm not going to list everything I learned in the last 4 years because I'd be here for a few hours and no one wants to read it... But I think sprint needs to do some "fall cleaning". At my local stores....
3D > iClone
I was trying to get a job at a corporate Tmo or sprint store for the longest time. I get mad when I come in and have to deal with a moron who they hired that calls the evos "the Droid phones" or has no knowledge about the phones but what the little features sheet next to dummy phone says.
Sounds like the OP got one of those employees.
Mannnn.. the sprint store near me is simply amazing... no need to worry about phone knowledge, price plans or anything else ... just focus on the 8 latina sprint cheerleaders with there tight clothes and short tops and trust me you will not be asking anything about the phone when you are done ... Man I just want an excuse to back there ... LMAO!!!

That would be a very acceptable trade-off. Alas, my store lacks such a perk.

Has anyone heard of this?

When you unlock the rezound the screen just goes blue for some reason? my friend who i sold a rezound to is telling me she's had this happen to her 4 times already, and i can't see it until saturday, so i wanted to see if any of you have had this before. i'm gonna be pissed if i sold her a faulty phone, damnit!
i searched online and can't find this issue anywhere.
I've had it go to the white HTC screen while Sense booted up a few times, but never blue screen. I would think that something is wrong with the phone.
ugh. this blows. i talked her out of the iphone too, which is what i do for everyone, and now she's gonna be like WAH CRAPPY ANDROID SUCKS WAH. sigh.
Sounds like you talked her into a phone she didn't need anyway. Why would someone talk someone else out of getting what they want? I mean there's room for iPhones in this world too, same as there's room for people that work at McDonalds. I don't know if that came off as a slight to iPhone users or McDonalds employees...either way seems to fit lol
do you work for a verizon store? do you realize the amount of money lost by franchises because apple likes to play their bull**** little supply and demand game? by not producing enough crap iphones, my store gets shafted (we got 3 iphone 4s. 3.) and we lose money. rather than continue to lose money on the iphone (it even takes over a week to get an iphone 4 in stock) i'm going to sell what's on hand and make money. it's a business. money NEEDS to be made. she played wtih my phone, she enjoyed my phone, and i sold her my phone. how is that giving her something she doesn't want? she only wanted an iphone because it's got an Apple logo on it and it's got an "i" in front of it. she came from blackberry and knew NO reasons as to why she should get an iphone; she only wanted one because it was white and people told her to. that's the kind of ignorance i deal with on a daily basis, and that's why i sell people android.
I don't work for any carrier/phone manufacturer. Do you know how many people actually LIKE the products that fruit themed company sells? I don't but that doesn't preclude someone else from making that choice. Stop being a fan-boy and try to accept that Android isn't for everyone same as iDevices aren't...and WP well that's just funny ;-)
did you read that? clearly you didn't. i'll paraphrase for you since you obviously didn't read my post:
she had no idea why she wanted an iphone. she's never used one in her life, she doesn't own any apple products whatsoever. she "wanted" one because people said OMFG GET AN IPHONE THEY'RE THE BEST! therefore, she decided, without even knowing what android was, that she'd get an iphone. that was her justification. i informed her of android, and of apple, and she chose android. fanboyism? more like being a competent salesman who does his job damn well.
hopefully you've read this one!
So she bought the phone from a Verizon store? She should be able to return it, correct? And it's totally not an Android issue, obviously. This is still what I would call a new phone and HTC is getting all of the bugs out. Just have her return it for a new one. She'll be happy with it once she gets one that is actually working. I, too, have pulled someone away from iOvercharge. She had a Mac, now has a badass PC. Had an iPoop and now is loving my old DX2. You just need to make sure you let her realize how new this phone is. A different one would probably solve all the problems.

LOL new favorite word
yeah, she's just confused in general about smartphones...she hardly knew how to work her 3+ year old blackberry hahaha
but yeah, i'm having her come in saturday so i can look at it...gotta talk to my boss about how we handle exchanges because i've never dealt with that before. i've never had someone return a phone that i sold them before lol.. thing is, if it's a faulty unit, now we're stuck with the faulty unit, so as the store, i don't really know what to do ya know? gotta work out the kinks! but yeah i'm interested to see what actually happens
Damn, that would suck. You could be a jerk and just dump it off on someone else. Ha! I thought you guys could send them back to HTC. That really sucks that you guys have to deal with it. Well, since it's such a new phone to her, and since she would have to start over with a new one anyway, you could always factory reset to see if that helps and gets rid of the issue.

Wouldn't you have the ability to return it to Verizon like a 1:1 swap?
honestly guys, i've got no idea. since there's widespread rezound problems, i don't know how we deal with it..i've never returned a phone before. i'm gonna have to talk to my boss, who in turn, will have to talk to our HEAD store in north jersey about sending it back...we don't deal directly with verizon; our main store orders phones, then sends to us, and we pay the main store. it's RETARDED and that's why we don't get **** on release day. the main store f'ed us out of the rezound, razr and nexus launch. my boss drove 2 hours north today just to pick up the ddamn nexus because he said he's sick of their **** lol

The Galaxy Note exudes a coolness factor/Samsung did an awesome job advertising this

Almost every instance on using this phone in public, people either stop and stare or they ask questions. It isn't like I'm trying to bring attention to myself but everyone is always asking if that is the new note. I leave it on my desk at work and whenever people come into my office, I'm asked about it and they want to doodle with the stylus. I hope this interest turns into more sales so that Samsung is prompted to come out with more phones in this line in the future. I simply refuse to go to any other phone now.
If you watched any basketball this weekend, the commercials were constant. They certainly seem to expect good sales:
http://www.androidcentral.com/samsu...llion-galaxy-notes-hopes-10-million-years-end
If you seek attention, I'm sure you will find it.
Seems as if you either walk around waving this phone in the air or you are doing something to draw attention to yourself.
Its only a phone dude!
I get a kick out of these type of threads. I used to read them on the iPhone forums and laugh, but it seems the same type of people are here as well.
Probably a bit of an underage issue a well.
I've been using the latest phones and tablets for awhile now and have never had anyone come up to me and ask me about any of them . Those that say they constantly have people coming up to them at obviously seeking attention.

I smell bad but still get asked about my Note.
I got the note cause I'm fat and needed a big keyboard. So far the only ones to ask me about it are my close friends. Never have I had someone cone up to me or stare at me because of this phone.

Lol i got approached by a stranger the first day i got it at in & out burger. Whenever i play draw something with the s-pen, thats when people start to stare and i could hear em saying wow and omg thats a huge...(insert joke here). But put this phone next to your ear and you get strange looks.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
I had my phone out at Nordstroms looking at Google shopper for shoes I wanted. The salesman there asked if it was and I've probably been asked over a dozen times if its the note or wow that's huge what is it.

Your comment seems quite underage. Just because some people have strangers asking them about devices and you don't doesn't mean they are lying or looking for attention.
Really only a few devices in the recent past, such as the Droid RAZR, have received as much media attention and advertising as the Note, so all of your latest tablets and phones have likely not drawn the same attention from the general public. Therefore you cannot compare them to the Note.
I do not show off my phones, I use them. With my Captivate, I received no comments from strangers. With my Infuse, I had a couple, but only from people familiar with Android that were curious what brand and model it was. With the Note, same use and everything, I have received more comments and attention than the whole time I had both of my previous phone, in just two weeks. Dude in line at Chipotle, girl employee at Home Depot, several people I have never talked to in my classes here at college. This phone is turning heads whether you are looking for attention or not, so don't be a downer because nobody finds you approachable.

You guys are so funny, thought this would never happen to me.
Went to get my drugs at the pharmacy, and the 3 people behind the counter all came over to look at it and touch it, they asked the same questions. Yes it fits in my shirt pocket, and I let them try it.

i don't know about the Advertising
but after using it hands on for a few days I'm addicted, it's so hard to get back to my T989
I get a lot of looks, and some comments. mostly "is that a phone???", "is that the one with a pen?", or "Is that the Super Bowl phone?" (referring the commercials played at the Super Bowl).
I have a gold metallic case on it so most of the time it looks like I am carrying a huge gold bar. Funny the looks I get.
I get asked about it all the time. I'll just be sitting on the train or at the bar or something and I guarantee someone will ask about it.

It's definitely not the advertising. It's the fact that it's a larger phone. I used a Dell Streak for 1.5 years and got the same type of comments about it.

Not worth the time to comment but I will anyway. I use my phone for business, not playing games. I don't "play" with it while waiting in a food line, nor do I walk around with it like it is a trophy. Many here do. That is obvious. As far as being "approachable", I am not looking for strangers to come up to me and ask about my phone, and I certainly don't want them "touching" it. The reason I even responded to this post was because the OP stated that the Note exuded a "coolness' factor. That certainly tells me how old he or she is.
We all grow up someday. Some of us a bit later I guess.

I also use my phone for business, not playing games. The only time games get played on my Note is when I let one of my grandchildren use it to keep them occupied. Nor do I walk around with it like it is a trophy as you put it. That being said, I still think it has a 'coolness' factor and yes, I have been asked about it in public. I spend a great deal of time on the phone when out - isn't that kind of the point to have a cell? If I didn't want to talk on the phone outside the office, I wouldn't carry it. I really do not mind people asking about it.

Story#1 (2 weeks ago)
I attended my wife's induction into the honor society for her university yesterday afternoon. There were 16 inductees and we all socialized a bit before the ceremony began. I was to pin my wife so I quickly made nice with the couple that sat next to us and asked if they would mind tag teaming on getting pics of the pinning action. All was set. If you could have seen the look on the face of the guy (and others around us). When I pulled out my Note... He said "what is that!?!? ". Of course, I took the opportunity to demonstrate the wonders of the Note to him as his amazement grew. After he got a chance to handle it and snap a few pics of us during our part of the ceremony he was hooked. His wife looked at me and said "I guess he's found a new toy now.. I can see it in his eyes".. I just laughed and went about my business. He had an iPhone.
Story#2 (last week)
So I venture into my local Best Buy to return an item. As I am standing at the return counter waiting for the guy to process my return, I am typing away in facebook and fully engaged on my Note. The young girl behind the counter next to him said "Wow. Is that the Note? I want to get one so badly. My mom won't let me but I am going to figure out a way to get one. I love that phone." I then let her hold it because she was so starstruck with it.. Really... I laughed inside.

Farewell DX2 community! HTC Dinc2, Here I come!!! :D + Tips to score a new phone!

Statutory Warning : This post is SUPER long! May cause delusions, dehydration, rage towards Motorola and/or VZW or depression! For those who can't withstand this post, skip to the end for a one line summary.
So it has been over 8, dreadful and painful months with the DX2. And to dull this pain, I had you guys to follow and read up on. Great devs and their ROMs, Pepperm1nt, Nitro, the_guy_who_made_liberty (Oops, I dunno the name of the guy), Ryman222 for his Molten (which incidentally was my first ROM) and then comes mastafunk, aceoyame and the one and only Dragonzkiller!!! He was THE guy who let me have hope over the last few months (of course, with respect to my phone! If he was the sole reason I'd have hope in my life over the last few months then something is SERIOUSLY wrong with me... ).
There are many others like Moonshadow, TransX2, TravisdroidX2, iBolski (who was the inspiration for my BBB Moto attack), gaad0701, antp121 , Sandso9, ashclepdia(OMG! How did I forget you!) ad infinitum! All of you guys helped me have fun around in these forums and gave me numerous thanks as well. I am very grateful to you and will definitely miss you when I leave. So I'll still pop in every now and then so that I don't completely miss you guys!
Anyway, coming to the actual news! I got a Droid Incredible 2, currently being shipped by VZW with a back plate and a battery as well! Swell! Here is how this happened.
Over the last 1-2 weeks, I got very active in pursuing my Moto and VZW complaints. So, many phone calls, emails and chats have been exchanged. But in short, nothing significant emerged. Then I heard people complaining to VZW and getting a call from an engineer and being offered a Gnex!!! Naturally, I was jealous, but also inspired and motivated to attack VZW to score a new phone.
I got a call from VZW in response to my online complaint. I seized this opportunity to get in touch with a Tech support rep and elaborated and bemoaned about my phone's countless issues. She was sympathetic and TRIED to check if I could possibly get a different phone. Unfortunately I couldn't. BUT she said something that intrigued me! She said that I did not hit the threshold that would make me eligible to getting a different phone. I was told that I needed to order ONE more DX2 replacement device before I can get a different phone. You see, I only ordered one replacement so far. So I hatched a plan.
I ordered a second replacement DX2 (making it the third DX2 I had, the first being the one I purchased and the second and third being the replacements). I ordered it yesterday and I received it today.
Then, I didn't waste anytime tinkering and checking this phone. Instead I activated it and immediately called VZW claiming that this phone had all the issues my previous 2 phones had as well. They lied to you (Moto and VZW) so why not you lie as well! I told them I was not happy and that I was sure that getting another DX2 as a replacement will not help either as it seems to be an issue with all Droid X2's. I added that I was told if I had issues with this phone too, then they may be able to offer me a different model. She looked into it and said, YES, they can offer me a different model!!! Huzzah! Success, finally!
I went through the process and was told that I can have either the HTC Dinc2, the Motorola Droid 3 or the older Samsung Fascinate. Samsung fascinate!? Bleh! No thank you! Droid 3!!!??? Are you ****ing serious!!!??? It is like from one hell to another!!! Not only does it have a locked Bootloader, but it is not even confirmed to get ICS as of now! Plus, I will not go for Droid 3, purely on moral and ethical grounds. I will NOT be doing business with a company that plainly doesn't give a **** about its customers, like Motorola!
On the other hand, HTC has unlocked the Bootloader for the Dinc2 AND it has added Dinc2 to its ICS upgrade list!!! . Plus as per XDA forums, Dinc2 has LOADS of ICS ROMs. Now that is my sort of company!
So sign me up for a HTC Droid Incredible 2 I said to the customer care rep. And she did.
To others wanting to ditch this phone and get a new one like me, the following are some tips and tricks.
1. Complain to VZW. CALL Tech Support: 866-221-4096.Tell them all the faults of your phone you can think of. Refer to this list if you need help : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24528918&postcount=12
2. Tell them that you checked online forums and it appears that ALL DX2's have this problem. So, request them to give you a different device.
3. Now, if you had one or less replacements so far, you MAY not receive a different device. Still, try your best to push for it by stating the systematic issues with it and claiming that ALL DX2's have it. No harm in trying. If not, do what I did and order a replacement DX2 first. It won't cost you anything and you can order another replacement the very next day once you receive this one.
4. After you crossed the threshold of 2 or more replacements, repeat Step 1 and 2. Clearly mention that you have talked to a customer rep previously and that they told you that if you are still facing problems with the device, and if you have had significant replacements (the magic number is 2) then you can be considered/will be eligible to get a different device. Even though this may not have happened, the fact is true and I can confirm it. So, no harm in claiming that you were told as such. Repeat that you are sure and 100% positive that the problem won't be solved by a replacement DX2 and that you really want a different device.
5. After the VZW rep agrees, which I believe he/she will and should, go through your replacement options, choose the device you like best and proceed with ordering it as a replacement. Thank your lucky stars you reached this step. Go to your favorite church/temple/mosque/other spiritual place and pray/donate/do social or community service if you got REAL lucky and got a Gnex or may be even a Razr (though it is Craparola's Razr!!!)
6. Once your device arrives at home, close your eyes and return Craparola's DX2.
7. Profit! Sit back, relax and enjoy your new phone and the new found freedom it provides you!!!
The end!
Once again, I am glad I made SO many friends in this community. I am grateful for the entertainment, fun and thanks you guys gave me! I will pop in regularly and check up if Moto did anything right OR if you guys got CM9/ICS via DZK, some other dev or Moto!!!
May you survive this ****storm and hopefully emerge victorious by making Moto do what you want or be bailed out, like me, via VZW!
Cheers!!!
TL;DR? Well read this: Pained by Motorola and its DX2, I got bailed by VZW. Got myself a HTC Droid Incredible 2, yippee and Woohoo!
If Cspire had better lineup of phones then I would take the same route as I love to hack and fiddle with my devices. But I can't so I'm stuck with it. The phone itself is honestly the best I've had. I'm just disappointed that I can't toy around with it much.
bye...

UPDATE: My phone is being shipped! Overnight! But there is a god damn weekend in the middle, so I must wait till Monday!!! :/

By the way, all the time I was talking to the customer rep and then she said she can send me a different model device, my hand was shaking and I was giddy with excitement!!!
Enjoy and good for you. I have been currently watching swappa for another device. I agree with your post and you never know I will see what device I end up on next.
Yea I'm waiting on my BBB complaint right now. Its been only a couple days but I'm holding out hope that I can get something better. As it is now, I love this phone but all the problems make me want another kind. I have a year left on the contract and don't know when early upgrade is but I don't plan on buying another device outright.

I was offered the Droid Incredible 2 as well, but sent it back. Rooting is complex, and S-Off? What is that? I read the sticky threads, and found out that you actually need to downgrade the phone to root it.
The phone is slow in comparison to the DX2, the stock launcher/homescreens are not customizable, no Bluetooth auto-answer, and I would not be able to tether it without paying another $30 for data that I am already grandfathered in for unlimited.
My phone was fine until I paired my Bluetooth headset, then all the issues started. I need a phone that can handle heavy Bluetooth usage and Bluetooth music listening.
I guess I will wait until August for my upgrade date.

Yea If I'm only offered that I think I'll tell them to try harder, a lot harder. As if I'm going to take a device that has a smaller screen and was less money then what I bought my phone for.
YAY!
after much *****ing and crying to VZW, the lady offered me an early upgrade. not much to be excited for bc my contract was up june 18 but this weekend... the rezound is 50$. ordered and on its way! i told her all my problems with the phone, she asked her supervisor if i could get a different replacement. after she said no, (never had a replacement before) i asked if i could get an early upgrade. she said she had to ask her supervisor and 15 mins later she said i could! i then asked of i could have a free rezound she said no but i decided to spring because, well, I HATE THIS PHONE !! should be here by Tuesday if all goes well AND... i have off this week so a LOT of time to tinker. 50 bucks for one of the best vzw phones NOT made by CRAPorola? sign me up anyday. i guess this is goodbye dx2 family thanks to all the great devs we have (DZK, Ace, Nitro) the modders (motcher, MoonShadow, skwoodwiva) the themers (hedwig ) and the all around good people in this forum (Ash, Litetaker, BreatheALittle) ill pop back in every once in a while just to see if moto shapes up Good Luck in all your endeavors and hope you all are able to move past this phone

Dude I had the EXACT same feeling when the person I bought my nexus from told me they put it on eBay with buy it now at 350(I am doing a split payment on it, so he put the nexus on for 350buy it now and extended bat for 100 that I pay for next week) and after he told me I refreshed the page and it wasn't showing up at first I was like seriously if someone got it in that 15seconds since he notified me it was ready I would have flipped lol
But for the whole two hours I was conversing with the guy my adrenaline was flowing for sure lmfao

The downgrade to root and s-off is a one time deal
Once u have s-off u root easily any build u want usually
That's how it was with my buddies incredible
It was actually a LOT easier than I expected it to be lol

Possible job at Sprint!

So I was wondering what you guys thought? I have wanted to work there for a while. I've been known as the go to phone guy in my circles and really like helping people and showing them all the amazing things that can be done with these phones. I have a job interview in the next week or two coming up and have really wanted this. Always been great with electronics, computers, and phones. Been hacking phones since the back in the day razor. There are things I want to accomplish within Sprint. Better support for our community, better tech support, better service overall. I have come from working hard labor construction jobs that I really don't belong in and have wanted a change for a long time. I moved from south Jersey to Knoxville Tennessee to get a fresh start and back on my feet, and away from all of the negatives that have held me back. I feel I am finally ready for this. So what do u guys think?

I think you just nailed the interview.

Good luck to you and hope that you get the job.
Your resume was good enough to get you the interview so now you have to sale yourself and tell Sprint why they should hire you. After reading what you just wrote, I definitely think you should use that as your 'so tell me a little bit about yourself' speech, also called elevator talk. Keep it under 2 to 3 minutes and the rest of the interview should be some basic tech questions, which I'm pretty sure you're nail, just don't BS any questions you don't know the answer to. You got this, I think you'll kick that interview in the nuts! Good luck and let us know what happens.

We'll have one of our own on the inside >
Thanks, my friend that is really professional and business oriented and has been helping me with resume, and interview q&a getting me ready. I love this community and never liked how the big dogs treat us when we come into the store. I want too be one of the ones that helps us if our phone is rooted or we are one of the more advanced customers. I want to work to make all of us fellow androiders, phone modders, normal phone users and even iPhone users more welcome and enjoy their phone even more.

I'm actually going to my local sprint store tomorrow to inquire about a position they have available at a store about 25 mins away not ideal, but your resume sounds pretty close to mine, I'm in retail now selling dog food and i could care less about that, phones on the other hand i bet i could set records at my store. Usually when i walk in there i educate the employees lol. Good luck, maybe sprint will hire two great reps. Btw, are u going for a franchise or a corporate store?

You should be fine and you should get the job but things you need to remember:
If you're selling phones, you won't be selling phones to people like us. You'll be selling phones to extra regular people. So all of your knowledge on here is pretty much irrelevant. If someone wants to do something and you yourself know that they could easily do it rooted, if you tell them that, you may be messing them up. And most people don't want to have to do all of this extra work for simple features. So telling them they'd have to root or something like that will actually steer them away from android and if Sprint wants you to push Android, you're hurting yourself and your sales.
Also, how you go about fixing things will be pretty irrelevant. You can't root the devices and unroot so at the end of the day if something goes down you're still gonna have to go through those set up procedures they lay out...
So having all of this knowledge is great but you may end up hating it all in the end because you can't go in there and do what you want. You can't really say what you want because you'll be around a different audience. This site and all of your hacking experience will be irrelevant and will probably go over most people's heads. And your troubleshooting methods will be limited.
All in all, you may be overqualified. If you really want to work with phones, look into internships and dev work where you get to do what you want. Going into Sprint and their own system won't make you feel any better.
Edit: Had to fix spacing. For some reason the text field would go off screen so I had to enter in new lines so I could see it. Just went back myself in a different browser to fix it.
Best wishes to OP, and very good points by ms (and many others)
From my Evo LTE, yup.
Talk about how you love phones and are great with them, but don't mention rooting and/or stuff related to root/s-off.

I worked for the largest private staffing company in the world and can offer a couple things or rehash what others have said but most important thing in to leave your prospects realizing the value goes both ways. They are hiribg you and you are potentially hiring them. Sell that confidence and you are golden.

Franchise. Yes, and selling phones is only to get my foot in the door. Tech would be next and down the line management. I have had good experiences with Sprint but it is the bad ones that always stick out. Those are what I wish to improve upon.

I've understood that for a long time now. We are not normal people here on xda, lol. Sometimes people just need to be shown how easily settings can be changed or what app they are looking for to suite their needs. The simpler people will need iPhones or even the dying flip type rugged phones for the construction industry. Normal people don't want to here about rooting. In fact I refuse to s-off/root others phones besides my own because they could seriously damage the OS, or it would turn out to be up to a 2 yr commitment maintaining that phone. Our modded eVos are in a whole different class that can't be touched unless it's relatively the same kind of modded phone. I also want to add their troubleshooting methods to my own. I know the tools we use but I want to know theirs as well. In personal life, people ask for such simple things like how to transfer music from the computer to their phone. Things that will bring them joy for yrs on a phone. A lot of people are still computer illiterate, but I'd rather change their thought process about phones than computers because these are truly the future. I practically only use my computer to play movies connected to my 50 inch. But a phone, well I've used that how everyone else uses a computer for yrs. Some of us on xda are light to moderate users that just want better battery to last through the day. I consider myself at the extreme of heavy user. Pretty much on it doing anything I want for as much time allows that I'm awake. One of those things is read, read, read on xda. Again I love this place, and you all show amazing support.

And congrats OP, good luck. I landed a job with Sprint in September and am the top dog at my store now. I love this job and I always try and right the wrongs of the world by actually being a good phone rep because not everyone is! It's really a great gig.
