You guys are starting to scare me about the DNA - HTC Droid DNA

Some software problems, drops with broken screens. Was planning on getting the DNA on my upgrade in a couple months. My TB will be antique, 2 years old in April and I have a zag screen cover Sence day one and only a silicone cover with the back cut out for extended battery. Have dropped it more times than I can remember. No dents, chips or broken screen. So the DNA is really that fragile? Some problems I expected hopefully less than TB, but broken screens that easy with gorilla glass is starting to scare me. Should I really be concerned about this or is the DNAs performance that good to overlook the easy screen breaks. Some advice please. Thanks.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2

The screen doesn't break easily, but its glass. Its harder to break than the tb. But A lot of people run their DNA with no case, and if you drop it and the glass hits something solid there's a good chancecof it breaking.

I don't know how many DNA's have been sold, but my guess is quite a few. You saw literally a few post about people who DROPPED their phone most likely without any kind of case, and that's enough you persuade you? This is one of, if not the best phone money can buy right now, you wont regret buying it.

Dropped 20+ times with screen protector and stepped on minor scratches only .. now if u face palm a phone from getting out the car etc most will take a ding or even crack. The DNA to me was togher than I thought it would screen included ..

Every time I drop my phone and it doesn't crack, I don't post about it.

Pretty much this.

This is a great phone, arguably the best device on the market right now. Get a protector, that way you can drop your device at leisure.

Just wait a few months until the new line of phones come out... This is the best phone out now..
Sent from my HTC DROID DNA.

I would guess the DNA is only marginally more vulnerable than the TB. The glass on the DNA covers all the front and a little of the sides. That means if you drop it on the side it could crack, unlike the TB.
If you drop both flat on the glass screen then probably both shatter equally.
They need to come out with those flexible screens soon!

My DNA has lived through:
1. Being dropped flat on the screen from a standing height
2. Sitting in the passenger seat with no cover/holder/case during a car crash that totaled my car
3. Being dropped in the parking lot from me forgetting it was in my lap when I got out of the car
The first 2 had literally no effect on it; the 3rd case a scratch on the side.. but the screen is still perfectly fine. So.. call me lucky, but I'm pretty impressed with the DNA's durability.

Exactly why I went with the DNA. This phone has display technology that other companies are scrambling to replicate with their respective display manufacturers. Soon there will be tons of apps and game that will require 1080p resolution to run properly.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. After having a TB I don't believe newer HTC products could handle the bad rap and still leave HTC in the competition. I am impressed with all the comments on the 1080 screen and to run JB out of the box has to be worth it, as my Moto Zoom wifi has been running JB for a while, and I love it. I'm glad to know that I don't have to bubble wrap it now. I'm not crazy about full cover cases but will definitely find something to protect the edges of the glass. I'm sure there may be something out soon that will help. Everyone seems impressed with how it runs, looks and fits to hold. PS I played with the Samsung s3 in the Verizon store felt like a cheap plastic toy that would break if held to tight. Lol wasn't impressed left with my clunky heavy extended battery TB. Will be spoiled to not have a phone with an extended battery along with carrying the charger to. Lol. Thanks again for the good feedback. Will be hard to wait for my tax refund

I have had my DNA for about 3 weeks now and love it. Got the Ballistic SG MAXX case for it.
Going to get the wireless charging pad and car dock soon and im set.

I am debating on whether to take my diztronic off because it feels a bit bulky.

Yes. Yes it is.

Only dropped it twice from knee height. But it was in an OB case due to the type of job I have... And the tendency of dropping my phone often.
Side note (somewhat off topic) - dropped my DX quite literally over 100 times with no screen protector or case, only came out with little knicks all around the metal and no screen dmg. Amazing

Its aight, I think I like it better than my EVO 3d, we just need some ASOP then it'll be perfect. It is a sexy phone I'll give it that.
ive got another pro for you well its a pro fro me...
i was wondering why the corners are at the 45 degree cuts, then i held an evo again today and i thought to myself "why in the heck is the phones corner jabbin into my palm?!"
when you hold a photon, the slanted corners allow more surface contact to the palm of your hand, so its more comfortable and easier to hold. it all adds up now in my mind lol
If you want real joy to hold get the Otterbox defender. Although a little bit of a lint magnet, the soft gel exterior is supremely comfortable as well as super protective.

I don't have the creak at all, I find that the back plate is very, very firm and much quieter than the Evo I used to have as well as the 3d. I do however have the Otterbox Commuter case and it is simply amazing! The defender is way to bulky and really is only needed for construction workers and the like. But if you so desire big and bulky, it is perfect for you ;-) . The commuter with an Invisibleshield is perfect for me.

Update just in case you want to ask for this. Just got off the phone with a Motorola rep and told her about the creaky battery door issue and asked her if they could send me a replacement door because I didn't want to exchange my whole phone for that and she said no problem. She said since im still in my first year of warranty there would be no charge and no questions asked per se. She recorded my serial number and verified my address and said fed ex should have it to me in a few days. One more thing I could understand every word she said no outsourced phone center here. Great customer service!

Wasn't the same as my last Motorola experience, I had to jump ship from t-mobile because moto briqed my cliq, moto blamed t-mobile and t-mobile blamed moto insurance wouldn't replace,,and I was left without a phone. I hope this time around I wont have to deal.with that again. Im sure Sprint will take care of me.
Maybe since Google bought them out customer service will hopefully improve maybe? Just a thought.

Anybody have a creaky phone?

I'm loving my phone. The only thing I noticed is that if I squeeze the phone on the right side towards the upper end of the screen I can hear a little sound and can barely feel some movement where the rounded part meets the rear glass. Anyone else have this? I'm not used to any parts moving since always using iPhones for years now.....until I decided I had to get the LGOG.
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 2
Mine feels sturdy and I don't hear any noise. No moving parts.
You may want to get your phone exchanged. Or stop squeezing it so hard.
I agree. Mine just feels like one big smooth hunk of glass. No give to even remotely allow a creek.

It feels like a solid piece of glass with absolutely no flex or movement...how is a creek even possible?
Noticed this as well, but only when pressing against a certain spot. Specifically, when holding the phone's edges & pressing directly in the center of the back of the phone. Also, it's sporadic, so I'm not worried about it.

My squeaky spot is in the upper left part of the phone. I notched it last month, but I think it had something to do with battery cover more than the phone itself. I funny think it'll cause any real issues do I'll keep ignoring it until the whole thing falls apart.

Feels solid. No creaks here, but rattling when shaken is definitely there. And the rattling comes from the physical buttons.
As I wrote in a different thread, my phone's build quality is superb except for the cheap feeling and somewhat loose physical buttons.

Mine rattles from the vol button.
It's not a big deal to me since I'll put a case on it eventually.
I actually woke my wife from her slumber last night handling my phone. The creaking is really getting loud. If I touch my phone anywhere near the power button, you would think something is going to break. I wish there was a way to fix it. Maybe a well placed drop of super glue would do it. I don't know, I'm too scared I would mess something up.

Pretty sure a lot of people's have come off or they ripped it off. Mine came off like a month ago so I just cut the little tab thing as far back as I could. I like it so much more without it. I took mine off intentionally, it was a PITA to have to pop it in and out every time I needed to charge the device. It really serves no real practical purpose other than keeping dust out (nothing compressed air can't deal with though)

Mine came off accidently on purpose about a week after I bought the phone and life has been better because of it.
Mine fell off the 2nd day after I got it, which was release day. It fell off naturally but I would have ended up ripping it off anyway eventually so I didn't even try to fix it.
First time I went to charge my phone I saw that off and ripped it off myself. Those things always annoy me beyond all reason.
HTC needs to read this thread. Not only do we all hate the flap, theres also a quality control issue to be assessed. For this many people to have had it just fall off naturally is embarrassing to say the least for HTC. Whoever let this idea make it to the production model made the wrong decision. I hope they don't do this again in the future.
Mine broke off last week had to cut off the excess

Spider Crack on Battery Door

Has anyone else had a problem with spider cracks randomly appearing on your battery door. I've never dropped my phone and have always kept it in an otterbox.

Now that you mention it I have one on mine. Hmmm
I had one on my Blue S3 but I can't find one on my White Note 2. It's kind of hard to spot.
Can't find any on mine. I've kept it in a Seidio ACTIVE case pretty much the whole time I had it. However. It has seen about 3 drops from 1-2 feet up. 2 of the drops were in the case, the last one was naked. Took a nasty fall while testing out my navigation mount suction cupped to my hardwood desk.
Note to all - the Samsung mount does not suction cup to hardwood desks.
Lmao, I would have never tried it on wood. Can you guys post a picture of the crack? I want to see what I should look for!
I don't have any cracks but my friends gs3 was kept in a case since day one and he got some. I'm thinking about getting a new back anyways with out all the Verizon garbage on it

No cracks on mine and I take my cover off on a daily basis to replace my battery; I never recharge my phone but swap batteries. It could be much, much worst because the door is the cheapest part to replace. Some of those carbon fiber and leather backs look much better than the Verizon branded stock ones. Funny part is that I have a spare NFC chip from the free flip cover Samsung sent me a few weeks ago.
It would be a different story if I heard or experienced a crack in the housing. Then I would be pissed.

Bought an otterbox defender yesterday

Went and bought one and not sure if I like it. Im super picky about cases on my phone, to be honest I really dont like em, or screen protectors. I love the look and feel of the bare screen. Thinking about taking off the front built in screen protector from the otterbox. Has anyone done this or have suggestions for me about em. Its the first one ive ever bought.

You can just push it out. Keep in mind the screen protector helps keep the plastic part rigid so it may feel wobbly afterwards. Many people do pop it out though, I learn to live with it.

Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I have taken it off of all of my otterbox defenders on all my different phones, around 6 in the past 3 years, and I have never really had an issue. One thing I would reccomend is is you want to keep the glue that holds the screen protector on, just in case you ever want to put it back on, you should put it in the freezer. It makes it peel off without taking the glue with it. If you dont ever want it back on then pop it off and get some rubbing alcohol and a toothpick to get the glue that will still be stuck off.
On another note, if you end up not liking the defender you might wanna check out the Urban Armor Gear case for the Note 2. I just got mine a couple weeks ago and its really nice and has protected my phone quite well.

I have always loved Otterboxes until my S3's. The On/Off button was fine before putting on the Otterbox but after it was put on the power button would barely depress and when it did you had to press so hard that the screen would flex. When I tried to take it back and exchange it since it was defective, or so I thought, and found out that that is the way it was meant to fit. .... Needless to say I was very unhappy, when I contacted Otterbox to see if there was anything I could do about it they pretty much told me to f off....
I tried the defender for the Note 2 and the problem didn't seem to be there on the Note 2's casebut after all that it made me never want to deal with them again. I still miss my commuter and defender cases. Maybe when they go on sale I will get one...
Anyway, I am happy that you like it better with the built in screen protector gone
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium HD app
if you don't want the screen protector built in with the defender, why not return it and get the commuter?
I picked one up from newegg for around 30$ and love it.
I am loving the commuter, it comes with optional film, ive dropped my phone many times with no issues. The defender was just too bulky, and stuck to pockets with all the exposed rubber material. I also sport an x-gear voyager 2, had one on my s3, and my GN2 with no proximity issues or loss of screen/pen sensitivity.
P.S. voyager is available on ebay for cheaper direct from xgear. (Free shipping and home buttons)
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium HD app
I did that with the one I had for the s3. It does feel a little floppy without it on the phone but as soon as you put it on it feels the same. The way I did mine was ro pit ot in the freezer for an hour and let the glue harden. Then it will literally just push right out.
