[Q] Supernexus 2.0 ROM questions - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apologies first of all - simple questions, none of which are probably strictly ROM related, but I'm a massive noob and haven't found where else to ask. I'm guessing they're more to do with 4.2.1 than this ROM.
1) when applying a desktop wallpaper there's a dark shadow overlay applied top and bottom, near the dock and status bar. Is it possible to get rid of this? d'oh, told you i'm a massive noob - this is a nova launcher setting
2) is there a way for the notification shade to display the setting toggles by default if there are no new notifications?
3) i noticed in my Messages app that there was no contact picture on my side of conversations. Checking in the People app showed my own google contact entry with a picture, but this picture doesn't show up in messaging. Also, the contact in my notification shade was empty. I filled in the 'local contact' with my own details, hoping that'd sync with the gmail contact, but no. I've tried running the Facebook Contact Sync app, but no joy. In addition, despite running Facebook's proprietary contact sync a number of times i've now noticed that when choosing to display Facebook contacts in my People app it returns no results, despite the 'Facebook Contact Sync' results showing up just fine. Any advice gratefully received on this one - the only time getting contacts sorted HASN'T been a massive nightmare was on my aged HTC Desire

Need to add contacts to my screen where single click makes call

I am running Kaos Froyo 35-1. I have tried different options, but I can't find a nice widget that lets me add contacts to one of my screens where I can click the picture and it calls the number. It always brings up the options for text, phone call, and mostly their details.
The original HTC widget did this, and I checked out the Launcher Pro People widget..and nothing quite works.
I am doing this for my kids in case they need to call my family members and don't need a course in Eris development 101
Any suggestions or apps to try?
check out Scrollable Contact Widget.
its a two click option, shows pictures of your choice of contacts (starred or category), once you click the persons name it asks you call, text, email... you click one of those and it goes.
nice app, could be tweaked to work faster though. but the best one i've seen. It requires you use ADW or LP
I've never tried this particular widget, nor do I know the developer, but ran across this over at AndroidForums awhile ago, and your post reminded me of it. They do have a free version so you can try it out and see if you like it.

I use "Contact Widget". It's free on the market and works great.

I don't believe it works with facebook sync, but I don't use facebook sync at all anymore anyway. "SyncMyPix" (also free on the market) will grab all your facebook photos for existing contacts and add them to your google contacts. You can do this once and remove the app since all info is updated to the actual google contact. Or you can use it to update periodically.

You're looking for a shortcut, not a widget
Look under shortcuts, not widgets.

Very simple in Froyo. Find a blank space on your phone and long press. Choose custom shortcut - press "select activity" - scroll down and pick "DIRECT DIAL". Next choose the contact from the list that pops up with number you want and press it. It will then add a 1 click dial icon to the home screen with picture.
Be sure to pic the correct contact and number from the list. For example if your kid's phone has "Mom" as a contact with a home/work/ & cell number when the list pops up to choose from you will actually see 3 "moms" listed with the three different numbers.

Google -- still with the 96x96 contact pics!?!

It blows me away that I'm asking this question still in 2011! I had the issue on WM a few years back and figured Google would allow their contact pics to be bigger by now.
After searching for quite a while, it looks to me like the only solution is to not sync your contacts with GMail. Has anyone found a way around this? 96x96 makes for a horrible looking full-screen caller-id.
depends, if they are on facebook syncmypix works. had some luck with motoblurs syncing.
Possible solution
Theres an app in the market place called Full Screen Caller ID FREE which can take over the screen when calls come in. It allows you to specify larger pics for contacts. It still uses the Motoblur Dialer for basic functionality like in call stuff.

Thanks for the idea...
...tried it...started off well...took a while and added all my contact pics in...but it chooses a small portion of each picture to use as the default picture in the rest of the phone. Its usually not even a recognizable part of the picture. So now I have random sections for all my contacts....and only full pictures for when I'm receiving a call. Which isn't that important to me. I like to use the pictures when dialing. It would seem with today's screen resolutions Google would have an option to leave pictures full size on phone, and only shrink them down for web use.

you can disable the picture option for your contacts so that it uses the original small-size photo you had for that contact before. got o settings -> miscellaneous and uncheck "Overwrite android picture"
i like the app, only complaint is i'm not a big fan of the answer screen layout.

Just to be sure before I change anything...are you talking about settings inside 'Full-Screen CallerID' app istself, or a Google setting on the GMail side of things?
EDIT: Found setting in app...thanks.

[Q] ICS Buddy/Contact Widget

Hi, has the the +buddy widget been removed in ICS? Ive tried using the contact widget but it displays the picture then a large grey box containing that contacts status update. Is there anyway just to display the picture? Thanks
Not sure what u mean but if u are taking about the popup when u press a contact image then its a ics feature
Noo, Im talking about the actual widget. What I have now for a contact on my homescreen is a picture of the contact, then to the right a grey box containing their status update. This is without clicking on it. I was just wondering if its possible just to have a 1x1 contact widget.
I have seen it mentioned while googling but i cant seem to get it on my s2
I think you want to create a shortcut.
Long press the home screen->pick Shortcut" and then pick Contact, Direct dial or Direct message.
Thats the one! I was only checking widgets.
Can we not resize widgets in touchwiz? Thought that was a big feature of ics..

I know what you're talking about. I also liked buddy widget instead of contact shortcut.
Direct dial shortcut is useful in some cases. But having a contact buddy widget was very useful.
Contact shortcut does the same job, but it displays much smaller pic with contact name below it.
I liked the way buddy widget displayed large pic. If we are putting a contact on screen, we would obviously know the name of that contact. Having a large pic displayed was cool. Unfortunately ICS seems to have taken it away.
Solution?
Has anyone managed to find a viable alternative to the 'buddies' widget?
As mentioned in the above posts, the two stock options in ICS are:
- Contacts widget - this gives a small thumbnail of the contact with a 'side tag' which displays a status update if available
or
- Contact shortcut - this shows the contact's thumbnail only; however, it's really quite small.
Neither are ideal on the SGS2. Even worse on the GNote. The contacts widget takes up too much space (ie a full row) and the shortcut is too tiny. A hunt in the market hasn't come up with much either.

Contrast Theme Email Issue.

My wife installed the new Contrast theme on her Note 3 (4.3.1) and it won't show the correct email count (other themes do). The correct amount of unread emails in her inbox is 120, it is showing 650.
I installed it and did not have the same issue on my Nexus 5.

Hi Red,
This is a new feature we are using to make sure the correct amount of unread email is showing. This is actually all of her mail (drafts, spam, etc.), and is used as once it's all cleared up, it gives less errors than just the simple inbox counter (due to gmail's new Social and Promotion tabs).
To fix this, try this:
1. Hold down on the homescreen - Unlock Widgets - hold down on the bottom area - configure.
2. This will open the Zooper editor - tap Layout - look for the "You have 650 unread email" - select it.
3. Select Edit text manually - change #SUG^all# to just #SUG# - then exit.
4. Remember to go into Themer Settings - Advanced - Desktop - lock desktop widgets.
Hope this helps!

a "simple" question about unread email

Hi,
I started recently making my own themes as i found there isn't enough themes in my taste on themer/mycolorscreen application/launcher.
I have on question though. how do i change the text for unread email? It is connected to my gmail, ut even checking another box in the mail options i have no luck so far. So help me get an answer please. I watched all videos but i might have missed it somehow. (see screenshot for explaination (and yes i made it all red because I am not ready to share my work with the world just yet))
Love this launcher!
greetings mcwurth
Changing unread email count from gmail to other email
As far as I'm aware, this CAN'T BE DONE! It's a limitation of Android, not Themer. Android links itself to your gmail account, and it will only report unread emails in that account, not any other. The two ways around this are:
(a) forward all your non-gmail messages to your gmail account by adding your hotmail/yahoo/whatever account to gmail (you can do this within gmail on your phone, or from your PC). This is the 'elegant' solution but it does mean that ALL your emails will be a the mercy of Google
or
(b) as you're building your own theme, just find the simplest widget you can for yahoo/hotmail/whoever, put the widget on your homescreen and use some clever masking (such as allow overlapping widgets??) to display only the numeric character. Not sure how you'd go about changing the font size.
You might want to look at Tesla Unread which displays unread emails on little badge icons, or browse xda's main Android forums for info on email count widgets.
BTW, I'm no expert so please don't ask me anything technical - I've just researched this problem before and I remember some of the replies I got from clever people.

Not exactly what i mean. this must be a limitation by themer as the word personal comes directly when i add "missed email". it simply says personal. even when changing the inbox/outbox/whateverbox of my gmail to anything else then the personal one it will not change the text and i can not change it elsewhere. i feel this is a themer issue and not from gmail as i can recall that with other themes it says email/ missed email

Hi mcwurth,
That's Themer Everything Widget right? When you add the Email item, it shows Personal by default. To remove it:
1. Select the Unread Email item (that one you added).
2. Tap the "Unread E-mails Style" option at the bottom - Select Unread E-mail Settings.
3. Scroll to the bottom - Deselect Show Label.
Alternatively you can use Themer Zooper Widget, which allows for much more flexibility. Hope this helps!
