[Q] TV Tuners - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive just ordered a smart dock for my S3 so that I can use it with my TV, wireless air mouse, hard drive and wireless xbox controller.
Now the final thing I want to do is run XBMC for PVR software, but cannot find a definitive answer about a tuner that will work with my S3.
Im a new user so I cant link to the one I have but its ebay item number 200828623654. Its made for an android powered smart box but will it work with the s3 aswell.
Or does anyone know of any that will work.
Cheers
Rich

Have I done something wrong in my post or is it just that nobody knows the answer?
All I can find through loads of google searches are a couple of expensive tuners that only work with their own inbuilt mini aerials and others that will connect to an outdoor aerial via a coax cable but they are made for specific android smart tv boxes.
Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can provide.

Reasons .
Might be better in Accessories .
This is not a f*** fix my phone forum its a developers forum .
As its rather a restricted topic you may need to wait until someone with an answer appears .

Im happy if a mod thinks its appropriate to be moved to accessories.
I am aware it is a developers forum and I was at no point demanding anyone "f***g fix my phone". The use of TV tuners with the Galaxy S3 would be a development of the phone as it is not something that it was initially designed to do and would allow people to make better use of their devices.
I was just making sure that I had not done anything wrong in the way I had posted my question and to make it clear that I had searched around for an answer already for a couple of days myself as I know people get annoyed when noobs post questions without bothering to look for themselves.
Thanks
Rich

[Q] Does TV Out work via 3.5mm jack?

Does TV Out work via the headphone jack like it did on the galaxy S?
Samsung are usually quite good with these things, my samsung jet could do
it and even my D600 from a good few years ago had the feature. I have a funny
feeling its going to be HDMI or DLNA only. Not complaining, just wondering.
Thanks. getting one at lucnch time today, pretty excited!
Nope, it doesn't. Quick tip - searching the forums would have revealed about 6 threads where this was answered already.

I did a search for tv out in the whole of the galaxy s2
Forum. Try it yourself, no results thats why I posted a thread.
I couldn't find the answer on google or any of the youtube
Videos.
Does seeing a new thread upset you?

Sorry if I came across that way, I thought the fact that I answered the question, rather than just referring you to search, might have been a tip off that my intentions were friendly.
Seeing a new thread doesn't specifically upset me, its just that a proliferation of redundant threads makes the forum less useful to everyone.
I don't need to try your search - both the words you searched are under four letters, so of course the forum will find no matches. If you try 3.5mm in the whole Galaxy S2 forum section there are several matches.
Alternately, if you really can't think of alternate search terms longer than 3 letters, you can search Google I tried this - Galaxy s2 3.5mm tv out site:xda-developers.com - and got the matches I needed straight up.
thanks for your help. And yea I didn't mean to come across rude
Either. Your info will help to make me a more efficient searcher
Take care.

Any programmers have some time to burn?

I have googled the possibility and existences of an app that allows your phone to be used as an earpiece for your tablet/computer/ps3 but although i have found alot of interest in the topic, no one has an answer. so now i'm asking the great xda minds for their help. i will donate 20 dollars to working app that i can put on my tablet that allows my phone to take calls and be use as an "earpiece" for the tablet. i don't care if it's an app that turns the phone into an assessery or simply uses BT to transfer the voice data to the phone via two apps. my final goal is this:
have a tablet with my number/data plan
use tether to my phone/laptop
use phone to take/make calls on the lapdock
simply leave the tablet in my bag to use as a "cool" assessory but use the phone and laptop to do my work.
and, yes, i know i can use a BT earpiece as a replacment for for all this, but i hate something attached to my ear and i think that people talking to air is kinda goofy (i would say nerdy but this is obviously more nerdy ).
thanks for your time
this is NOT a question, this is a development request. please don't move to thread that developers won't read...
So essentially an a2dp app? Or... can't recall the protocol name. Starts with an H. Its like HVDO or something.
Sent from my Motorola Atrix 4G on the network with the most backhaul, whatever that is. This post might have errors as I hate touchscreen keyboards.
Aha!!!??!!
So your Tablet is your Networked device, you tether a laptop for internet as-well as your phone......
This is because you only want to pay for one internet/calling network account i guess???
You'll find some interesting stuff on SourceForge.net essentially your windows laptop is capable of doing this, so i'm definite there is a linux version witch you can port to your Android device... And then simply code a nice GUI in Java......
Well Im studying atm so I can't help lol
It's HSP/HFP/AVRCP profiles for bluetooth.

How is it not development? It's not really a question, theme, or general talk. But, whatever the deb's decide.

commtiva n700 may be bricked?

hey guys,
i recently bought a commtiva N700 off ebay from a guy that said his son had entered the pin too many times and now the screen wont turn on.
thinking i may be able to grab a quick bargain i bought it for £30,,
i got it this morn and the device certainly seems to be bricked. when i press any and all combinations of buttons, nothing happens, when i plug it in to the USB cable, the led goes solid red and then flashes red at me..
have i just bought an expensive paper weight or is there anyway of reviving the tablet from death??
thanks!!
So this is def a brick now then? What does the flashing red led mean? Any ideas?

Hmmm, this topic really doesn't belong here - more of a general question ... perhaps a MOD want to move/merge or close this thread as I just pointed another poster in the "general" direction on where to start troubleshooting - might have to use the flash the factory ROM again with their provided utility to stock condition, without root - assuming it's NOT a hardware issue & not covered by factory warranty (or expired already)
For newbies not familiar with Android OS and various how-to's, it's dangerous to try DIY fixes as it will truely turn a "soft" brick into a dead paper-weight brick that's unrecoverable.
My suggestion for where to start is linked here - please post your followup questions & findings in the other thread, it's easier for me to read - for everyone to share AND learn, and other newbies to search for possible solutions as they discover this sub-forum, thanks in advance -

This is specific to the Vpad 7 only or its generic/off-brand equivalent, not other similar Viewsonic devices that I do NOT own nor familiar with.
Many thanks for your help.. i wasn't sure if the general area was the place to use or not.. in general I find the Dev area has more knowledgable and savvy users, although i can understand why they'd get annoyed with Plebs like me trying to answers to inane questions..
i'll follow up with your advice and if a friendly mod could either move or kill this thread it would be greatly appreciated..

Sirgeekalot, I posted a few thoughts on what you folks might want to try next in the other post in this section - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359605
It take time to digest all these info & to try it out, but do let us know what you come up with, if any - so that the rest of us can point out the directions on what possibly steps to take next. Good luck & please try to post in the "other" post next as it will be far easier for everyone - it's a rather small circle of users around the world, compared to iPads and Samsung Galaxy's, etc. so the more we share together, the more we learn ... Thanks & believe me, I understand & share in your frustration in having an expensive "brick" in hand.

USB DAC

Hallo everyone!
First of all - I got myself a smartphone just yesterday for the first time ever, so yes.. I'm even less than a Noob.. you can call me noob^2..
Second: i searched the forum but I did not find a similar topic. Either there is no similar thread yet, or I don't know how to use the Forum search engine properly.. If so, please excuse!
I have a SGS2 i9100 (not G) and android 4.0.3. Not rooted (don't know yet how to so..)
I would like to replace my ipod with the SGS2, but the soundquality is very poor. I would like do connect the phone to an usb DAC (fiio E7 for example), but i read that it is not possible to bypass the internal crap yamaha-DSP. So is there any possibility, hack, or whatever, to send the pure, unprocessed mp3 data to the DAC via USB OTG??
Thank you a LOT!
Not currently possible with the SGS2 & highly unlikely to ever be. Devs who have been asked to have a look at it have all gone 'Nup' because of Samsung's proprietary/closed source drivers & so on. To give you an idea of what devs are up against/why nobody will tackle this, read this post.
Only way it will ever happen is if you code it yourself, or a dev with a lot of time on their hands (there aren't really any of these; the development they do now is done in their spare time & on top of the jobs they have) who actually wants to use this themselves.
Don't ditch your iPod.

Well, that's a pitty!
I read somewhere that android 4.1. (Jelly Bean) supports that USB audio out capability. Is that true, and does that mean, that if I could install jelly bean on the s2, I could use usb audio?
Another, probably stupid, question. Is it possible to install the 'not touchwized' - original - version of android on the s2? Would that make usb audio work, or is it a matter of hardware and drivers??
Thak you for your reply!
Hardware & drivers. Won't work no matter what. Unless a dev makes it work as I said in my previous post.
So right now, no one is trying to make the s2 work..? Would donate if someone succeeds..!
What about the Galaxy nexus phone and about the Galaxy s3? Do these phones support usb audio, even though they are from samsung?
1) No, offering money won't make any difference. There have been threads made in General where people have pledged differing amounts of money; in one thread I offered $20, all up maybe 6-7 people pledged money totaling around $150 to get it working. No devs took up the offer. Seriously, this is something that is very difficult & time consuming to get working, it's not simple like some people seem to think. It just isn't going to happen. Money isn't the issue, the issue is time and/or a desire on the part of a dev to use this feature themselves. No dev so far has had either of those nor a desire to get this working.
The fact it doesn't work on stock roms should tell you something.
2) You're asking in the wrong place, ask in the forums for those phones.

How do I look up what "rev" version I have?

Hi there,
My S2 have not been working properly. It won't charge at all. It goes from charging to not charging all the time, so I'm guessing the port is bad. I've decided to change the flex cable which includes a new charging port.
But... There is a couple of different flex cables out there. All for Galaxy S2, but some for "rev 2.2" and some for rev "2.3" etc. So.. my question is:
How do I found out what "rev" my phone is?
Thanks in advance
This has been covered a few times recently. Go thru KeithRoss39's posts, he's the resident expert on this particular matter.

What does "rev" stand for? Searching for "rev" didn't gave me the answers I wanted when using the search box. It doesn't hurt to get it covered again.. It's a forum..
I gave you the means to answer your questions. He has specifically spoken about this in detail (which rev belongs to which SGS2 variant, etc) several times over the past two weeks. He is not a heavy poster here. There aren't many threads you'd need to look at. I'm not about to do that searching for you and/or regurgitate this stuff when it's been done so many times before because you're too lazy to take a brief amount of time to find the answer.
'It doesn't hurt to get it covered again' - Yes it is a forum, and it's a forum where we encourage people to help themselves & learn, we point people in the direction of what they're wanting to know, and we encourage them to go learn it.
I'm putting you on ignore, because I'm just not interested in your response to this post given the tone of your last one & your obvious sense of entitlement, so knock yourself out abusing me in your reply to this, I don't care & won't be reading it.
All you do is look at the fffffffin rev number on your one and order that.
And this is a forum....so dont be a sanctimonious mouthy noob.
Rev:
Revolution
Revision
Reverend
Reverse
Maybe its no.3,who knows or cares.
