Battery drain - please help - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
The battery of my phone keeps on draining like hell since I installed xxlsj leaked firmware. I have tried different kernels and roms but no positive effect. I m currently using dorminax kernel with leaked jb xxlsj.
Please see srceenshot of battery consumption.

Are you close to the router? That pic shows it's far range. Wifi would constantly try to get a better Wifi Connection hence, massive battery drain. I have the same issue when i'm bunkered in my bedroom.
I'm running JB leak as well and battery life is just awesome (see Attachment)

3g drains like mad

Hi there
I'm finding a solution for my battery drain when using 3g when i'm on the go.
I want to keep using the 3g because of uts speed. So no 2g involved..
Is there any way to improve battery life when using 3g? I turn it off when ibdont use it btw.
Im running RR3.0.8 + DorimanX kernel 5.78.
Kind regards

..Using RR 3.8 with (stock) Siyah and battery life (2 days of average usage) seems to be ok, and I never turn it off... so first of all, try to flash Siyah kernel, then try to flash some other MODEM for GS2 (working on JB!)

You are running a ROM that is based on CM10 and AOKP and a known bug is the RIL crash and/or RIL wakelocks (although not all people seem to have it). In your case it`s probably the wakelock that`s causing the problem. Only a hour ago or so Codeworkx anounced a new CM10 build that could fix this issue, so either switch to ICS for now or flash the newest experimental build from the CM10 thread if your battery life sucks.
Attention though. DorinmanX Kernel is not compatible with the newest CM10 builds and neither is the official Siyah kernel, so you can only use it with the Stock CM10 kernel.
Try and install BetterBatteryStats and leave your phone for a couple of hours with 3G on and look up if you have wakelocks and what`s causing it.
You can also install an App called "GetRil" and see if your current RIL and baseband match and if not you can install a matching one right from the App. I heard that helped some people with RIL problems.

1. Did you mean, you are experiencing heavy battery drain when using 3G to surf the internet? If yes, then what's your average browsing time on 3G.
Changing your Modem my improve your battery, but a little bit.

2. Did you mean, you are experiencing heavy battery drain when in standby with 3G enabled?

i guess ill just wait for RR to fix the issue with CM10. And update it than.
Btw. With GetRIL. I download a new one but it keeps saying it isnt compatible. I've downloaded the recommended.

[Q] Battery Life with custom ROMs

Hi there,
i am new into this custom ROM stuff and i been trying few ROM and now i am on the UltimaROM 2.3.2
but Battery going down from 100 to 84 in short time
Which is the best to have more Battery
and is there anyway removing the default SMS app and use chompsms instead ?
Nothing is best here. Just keep experience yourself with different rom, kernel and tweaks to find the best battery performance for your phone.

These things depend on how you use your phone, but system and idle seem high on your list. Screen and talking are my top two. Batteries have so many variables. I would try different ROMs and kernels.

Go to page one General and you will find stickys .
Alternative is to read the kernel posts in development section .
Or even that new fangled idea google search .

I think stock kernal is probably your best bet for battery life...
Hi everyone!
1st post on xda, but I'm new in android world!
Anyway, I'm using Omega ROM v27.2 (JB)/stock kernel and I experienced some battery drain issues. After getting BBS, I didn't able to point out what was the cause.
After many readings, I found a possible solution: in advanced WiFi settings, they advised to disable "Keep WiFi on during sleep". By default it's set on "always". They advise to set it to "never" but I prefer set it to "only when plugged in". I think it's more logical!
I don't know yet if it's efficient but I'm trying this and I'll come back later to tell you.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
you could use phenomenal kernel for better battery life. it is better than stock kernel in terms of battery life but you need to check compatibility with the custom rom you choose
Foxhound Essential .2 with latest siyah kernel
Best Battery life I ever tried - I've used Foxhound, Criskelo, and Omega JB roms but the Foxhound Essential is the fastest, ram free (430mb), best battery life performance around (8hours extensive use with mobile date turned on). Try it its great! Thanks

Try latest siyah kernel - plus Foxhound Essential ver .2 - No bloatware and best battery life performance..
I flashed Phenomenal Extreme kernel yesterday but to test it properly I have to wait for Monday when I'll be at work.
I'm not a fanatic of battery life, I just want to find the right mix between performance & battery life. For now, I found the phenom extreme not enough smooth, I'll probably change it for the medium one in few days.

My best results with battery life has been with Phenomenal Extreme and VikingROM. I got about 6 hours screentime with wifi, sync, and lots of gaming. Though i think you can make almost any rom or kernel last about 5-6 hours screentime if you check your running processes and apps running in the backround.
I hv tried lots of roms
Psycho rom XXDLJ1 v 0.0.1 is one of the best
it gives u maximum performance and an amazing battary life
Though you can flash different ROMS and kernels to experiment with battery performance, most reputable ROMS like AOKP or CM10 Wong yield much difference. Too many other variables. I've heard Trinity kernel is a good one, but I just got an extended battery. I found it to be the most sure way of extending battery life.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I've tried omega Rom and phenomenal kernel but these didn't really give me any more battery.
I found the stock kernel and Rom gave me the best battery performance at around 10 hours with WiFi on and surfing internet and maybe a quick go of a game or two.

[Q] [q] which rom to use?

Hi I am 15 years old and i have a samsung galaxy s2 GT-I9100 with stock ics 4.0.3 (exactly I9100XXLPS). It have some issues with (not opening some times) wifi and several battery drain when im playing games ( need for speed, asphalt, etc). I want to play games and surfing but my phone does not keep its battery until night. So I want a rom and a kernel which have no much battery drain, fix wifi issue and if its possible to extend the wifi signal...
Sorry for my poor english.
Thanks in advance.
Hi, i'm also 15 yr old, btw i'm from Serbia(if u know where is it...), if u using cf kernel it has a wifi bug so i suggest u to install siyah or dorimanx kernel... And, i think themes like this(whats best rom, which to use, ...) are forbidden, sorry btw try SuperNexus rom, for me that's best rom for begginers, wish u a luck !
I have to say that ROMs are all about personal preference. Imo you should test out various ROMS to see what's best for you...
That being said, I'm currently using Cm7 on my I777 and it has great battery life (although I suspect it has something to do with turning the second core off and using Siyah GB.)
For Jellybean my preferred ROM is Super Nexus... I got pretty good battery on that one too!
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I'm using PA 2.54 with Dorimanx 7.17 kernel with moderate UV and battery save settings from STweaks. I deactivate auto-running non-useful apps and location services, use lower brightness, uninstalled some system apps and frozen others, etc. Search forum for more info

Sorry, but i am not a begginer and i know where is serbia... Anyway i am using stock kernel too now. Also i was using latest jelly bean resurection remix with latest siyah a week ago, but latest resurrection remix version had a very big issue with severe battery drain, so i decided to return to stock unbranded 4.0.3 and then try an other rom. Thats why i create this threat, for not trying all s2 roms.....

How many battery cycles did you let the battery settle for? You should give your battery at least 3 cycles before you judge the life of the battery after you flash something. You can also try CPU spy from the play store to see if your device is deep sleeping. Also try better battery stats to see if you have any wakelocks.

I use RR 3.1.2 and I don't think there is a severe battery drain. Use better battery statsto know what caused it, at the first place.

I give the battery 10+ battety cycles in each rom i try before i report... I will try battery stats and set cpu but i think (because i have tried them in rr) they will not give me the exact reason about my problem. I will try again and post here the results.
Anyway, thank you.

Yesterday i found these fixes on internet... Do you think that this was a cause of my battery drain problem? But why the problem remained (not like in rr, but ramained) after i installed the official stock 4.0.3?

Battery drain?

Is it normal for my neo v battery to drain this much when using mobile data? I lose 1% every minute or so... Like now.. I just got 100% charged and after a few sec of pulling off my charger, the battery starts to drain 1% every minute that i am using data but when the phone is on standby battery is alright.

I always have my packet data on and for about a year I never went over 10%/hour while browsing net outside of WiFi range.
In my case I narrowed the problem down basically to "screen on" state. Suddenly it multiplied power consumption even with packet data and GSM off (level of brightness doesn't matter, simply being on did this).
It persisted through ROM changes (reverting back to stock, different ICS, GB and JB ROMs). I'm not alone in this, as I found dozens of similar cases all over the net, but no solution. Some suggest hardware malfunction, like motherboard short-circuiting.
@halfblack :Well maybe I'm mistaken. But that's normal on some ROMs. My bad! Never faced such an issue.
Sent from my Xperia Neo V using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm sorry if I sounded aggressive. It's just that inability to deal with this problem is frustrating.
And you are surely right about some ROMs, especially ICS-based, having minor or major battery issues. UHD should, in my case does, have it under control though.

there's a lot you can do, either get a new custom rom, try a different kernel, go for stock based ones, it's always good to start there. check whether you have gprs or data activated which usually causes drain. how much your battery is being used also dictates towards the drain. if all the above is ok, the kernel might be the issue for rapid drain
get screenies so we can guide you better...

The stock roms and stock based roms are not at all battery friendly...I'm on moProject42 4.2.2 and my battery hardly drains even if I leave wifi on without switching on wifi optimization. My battery drain is about 1% every 7-8 mins if wifi and screen are on.. I always have around 180mb free ram (which I think almost no one gets after 7-8 hrs of use in ICS based stock roms), use SmartassH3 CPU governor on just 806MHz and still don't face slightest lag in any game I play (Temple run, subway surfers, MotoGP)
The point is there is loads of bloatware running in such roms that battery drain is normal..
Most of the stock based roms and stock roms lack lots of battery and performance tweaks...It's time to switch to cyanogenmod

as far as i remember, ultimate hd 5.0.1 has offline charging...but if you are getting a bootloop then i'd recommend a re-install or if u've installed a custom rom then do the same..but if it still doesn't work then try flashing a different rom...
A word of advice..
1. CM , AOSP and AOKP roms are under continuous process of beta testing..So dont judge I'm on aokp 4.1.2 for now and wifi is still buggy but i can manage(i mean android 4.4 is out now)
2. Try roms based on stock but are completely stripped and are still customizable..eg. JJ Hybrid 3.3 rom. Ultimate HD is very good but apparently a lil too much for our neo v Happy Flashing!:good:

You can try a different kernel (such as newest boeffla: http://boeffla.df-kunde.de/sgs3/boeffla-kernel/Test_jb43/ )
Or flash different rom (this one has great battery life: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060403) and compare. If the drain still remains, than I suggest checking with other battery.

Your mobile signal seems to be very poor and also your wifi is on this could be another reason why drainage is so high
