You would need to 1st enable sms by altering the build.prop settings - assuming you have root access and stuff.
The specific line to be altered would be:
ro.ril.reject.cs.ss.enabled=1
ro.ril.reject.mo.sms.enabled=1
ro.ril.reject.mo.ussd.enabled=1
This should enable messaging and should work provided your AT&T sim has the feature enabled. Not sure about MMS though-haven't tried.

They are on line 15,16,17 or so in the stock rom's build.prop file. Which rom you on? Could find it and let you know.
And if they are missing completely from the file, you can add it in anywhere. What I have noticed is, at the end of the original file, give a few spaces after the last part, feed it in, save, reset phone. And you would need to even enable the phone function - tutorials for that already on the forum.

I'm using El Diablos Rom. I added the lines but still can't send or receive. I've used Hancent sms, chompsms. I even downloaded a stock HTC messaging app because my tablet was missing one. The only thing working for me is GOSMS using the goChat option, such is ok except for the fact that people who I send to don't see my number, they see some other username that GoSms assigned to me. I guess i will live with that. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!!

I am also on el Diablo itself. The 16th line has got the sms function. It says reject sms. By default it is set to 1.change it to 0. Should solve the issue.
And I use go sms only. The others never worked for me.

2. thanks to louforgiveno for this
louforgiveno said:
Yes you can as long as the rom is deodexed. You can use a root explorer app, copy phone apk to sdcard, then use a root explorer navigate to the apk copy it and paste it to system/app. Once you do that youll get an error message, do a battery pull restart root explore back to the system/app folder find the phone apk and change its permissions to match the other files in the directory and restart again. ive been browsing around and havent seen a proper fix for this besides those who want to make a profit.
im currently testing this and can send mms to myself, by way of the go sms pro app....it allows sending mms to yourself with a viewing pic......
AOSP ROMS
1. Delete the MMS.apk and mms odex if there is one from /system/app

3. Setup go sms Pro for Full features.
4. in go sms pro app hit menu>settings>>MMS settings>Fill APN config Manually

SENSE
1. go into mms app and look to see if mmsc is editable. (sense 3.0 & some 2.1 allow editing.

there is no boost radio uses same radio as sprint as it uses sprint network and towers
the prl should be the same but u would have flashed that from your "donor" phone already prior to this
also if your phone is flashed mostly like ha secret and esn meid is "correct" dialing ##32823 then data profile>menubutton> restore will reboot and handsfree activate it and setup those values for you
go sms is useless. all u have to do is type ##DATA# (##3282#), hit edit mode and type in your "MSL". navigate to advanced and change the "MMS Server URL" to "http://mm.myboostmobile.com". i have had my evo 3d since its release and have never had a problem sending or recieving pics.
What doesnt work
-WIMAX/4G (Boost Mobile doesnt support it)
since boost mobile uses sprint towers can we roam sprint towers for the wimax 4g signal with a custom prl ??? now that will be a hot hit for many xxx

[Q] SMS limit

I'm a youth pastor and send texts to around 80 students about events and things we are doing. I send mass texts to them quite often and the most annoying thing I've run into is the SMS hour limit. I can't remember if it's 100 or 160 but either way after I surpass that number within an hour (only two mass texts to my students) I then see a popup warning after every individual text. I then have to manually click yes after each warning or my messages never send. I found this thread but it doesn't seem to work...

Google Voice supports mass sms
Wow I had no idea there was a limit and I text a lot. Is this carrier specific I wonder?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Mass texting is not the problem. There is a setting embedded in the Android OS that makes a warning popup after you reach a certain number of texts PER HOUR. It is not carrier specific it is within the Android OS settings. any other ideas?
Hmmmmm. Very interesting. I don't have the slightest clue.

If you read the thread I linked in my OP it seems that it is a system warning and not carrier or ROM based.

Stock ICS Contacts.apk and Phone.apk

For those of you who prefer the stock ICS apps for contacts and phone. This will do until CM9 is fully working
Just copy to /system/app and change permissions using root explorer.
I'm currently running this on Flex's rom seems to work ok.
Notes:
Phone - Dialpad doesn't auto look up contacts when dialing
Contacts - Doesn't switch to high res HaxSync photos
I take no credit for these, thanks to paulobrien on his HTC One X rom:
[ROM] MCR - MoDaCo.one for the HTC One X S4 (Sense + Vanilla)
Does anyone know how to fix the looking up of contacts when dialing the number on the dial pad?

There's another post here with one but it force closes.
Update on using the stock phone and contacts app.
Both work great! Have been using for a few days now. I removed the HTC Phone and Contacts apk's from /system/app.
Only thing that is happening which I find weird is whenever my phone comes up after a reboot, the stock contacts app opens up. Haven't been able to figure out why
I have noticed that once a phone call is started, it still uses the htc phone app even though I have removed it from system/app. Is there somewhere else I need to put the apk or some modding i need to do in the build.prop? These are minor issues but I would love to have these working perfectly. I'm surprised there isnt more people commenting in here and wanting these.
Bump to the top. I'm interested in learning how to mod apps and rom's so if anyone who has experience in this would like to help me work on these that would be awesome.
So you removed HTC phone apk, but it still opens?

I swear I saw a post on how to do it. I just can't find it anywhere. I know it can be done tho. It's horrible even a 10 second video is to big to send via mms. At least for my phone it is.
MMS Compression kills me. Can't send someone a nice high res pic. Sizes it way down and compresses it to hell. The main way I share pics is through texting and now it's just stupid to send a pic through texting since it looks horrid. Never had compression issues on iPhone unless it's through video but I don't care much for that.

I'm on a HTC One S and I did this too. Apparently the mms app now says the limit is what I've set (that is 1MB), but when I attach a photo this gets compressed nonetheless, even if it's smaller than 1MB.
Are you guys on the HTC One experiencing the same?
That's one main reason I moved away from stock messaging to Textra app. It's way smoother than the stock HTC one messaging not to mention It's light weight, not a memory hogger, very simple and smooth. The others like go sms and handcent are buggy and full of ads. Go to the playstore and try it for yourselves. All of my friends with Androids love it. BTW..it's Free.
