[Q] 7.8 on RM-819 (Cyan Telus Model) - Nokia Lumia 800

Hey guys, just wondering if I'm SOL.
I was going to wait for the official update, but I noticed last night that I have over 8GB used by "Other" and thought it might be a good time to factory reset my phone. If I'm going to do that, I might as well install 7.8 right?
So I started looking into installing 7.8 and noticed that there are no Telus/Canada versions of 1750.823.8858.12460 in Navifirm. Is there another version I can use without bricking my phone?

You should be able to use any version on your phone including RM-801 variants. I have the Telus model and I have experimented in the past with other firmwares. Keep in mind that if your phone has been unlocked it will re-lock after flashing a new firmware, so make sure you have the code.

Are the radios effected in doing this though?

RM-801 are 900mhz and RM-819 are 850mhz. This is based upon the hardware not software, so if your phone is RM-819 and you put 801 firmware on it it will still be 850mhz.

I have a Nokia Lumia 800 Black Telus, I have been using it unlocked in the states. Anyway, I flashed the RM 801 APAC black version and it kept my phone unlocked. I have been using it for a couple weeks no problem.

Ok cool, I'm still more used to Android where you can mess with the radios and connectivity a bit.
Thanks for the help .

That is good to know. Every other past firmware I have tried has re-simlocked the phone.

[Q] Can you load the developer ROM on to another RM-821 variant?

I'm wondering if anyone has done this and what it does (if anything) to the available frequencies. I'm hoping that an unlocked international variant with the developer ROM will allow access to the 1700/2100 frequencies, so the device could be used on TMo USA. Is this possible, or are the available frequencies simply not affected by the installed ROM?
Thanks.

As of right now, you will likely brick the phone if you flash a firmware not designed for your version of the phone. I don't think anyone has figured out how to flash the radio separately from the firmware yet. I'm holding off buying the 920 until someone figures it out

Bummer. Thanks anyway.
May have to go with an unlocked Rogers, but the branding and lack of colors beyond black and (eventually) yellow is disappointing.

Looking for Lumia 920 BUILD 2012 Original ROM

Hello.
I have a Lumia 920 BUILD 2012 version, and is briked because a faulty hard reset.
Anybody knows where I can find the original ROM (Version RM-820_nam_canada_246) or a unlocked replacement??
I have already flash the phone to an AT&T Version which has the internet sharing disabled...
Thanks in advance!!

You try this?

Your developer edition 920 is the exact same model as the Rogers one.
Flash the Rogers Firmware, you should be fine, only negative thing is that you are gonna get the Rogers Logo on boot and a Rogers App in the phone which you can simply uninstall.
Once the developer edition clean firmware hits the servers, you can re-flash.
That's your only solution for now.

Did you figure this out? I have a developer edition 920, and want the Portico update, but am worried because the original firmware is still not on there, nor is the updated firmware. I thought about flashing to a Rogers firmware in order to get the update, but I'm worried it will simlock it (I use t-mobile USA). Thanks!

You aren't using that Dev phone to develop on, are you...
The Rogers firmware will not SIM lock your phone to Rogers. May I humbly suggest you do some light reading on how SIM locks work?

Found dev rom in navifirm for RM 821

Hi all,
a Developer rom is available in navifirm right now

Hi Ellokomen.
Probably a stupid question, but what are the advantages of a developer ROM?
The Developer ROM has been there since at least November (as that's when I downloaded it)...
I don't know how significant it is, but there was never a Portico version of the Developer ROM before they were all pulled so it doesn't appear it's first on the list for updates if that is what you were thinking.

The portico version of the developer ROM is now available (see 1232.5951.1249.1002 - RM-821 VAR EURO1 Developer Device).
But again: what would be the advantage of flashing that to my phone?!?

I think it would help to remove the internet sharing block on AT&T and rogers phones.
Has anyone tried to flash this RM-821 ROM onto a RM-820 device? I know that technically they are different phones but you could flash the RM-819 (Lumia 800) onto a RM-801 without issue aside from perhaps a missing 3G band. But the 820/821 have exactly the same 3G bands just different LTE (which I don't care about) so it shouldn't be an issue right?

That's odd because when I tried to flash the RM-820 ATT Firmware to my international RM-821 Lumia Nokia Care Suite said that it's for a different model (or sthg like that) and then aborted the flashing process. This left my phone "soft bricked" - meaning that I had to re-flash it with a RM-821 ROM to get it working again.
I wonder if this Dev ROM might actually be a RM-820 ROM that is only (by mistake) labeled as RM-821?????
Has anyone tried to flash it to a RM-821 international model yet? Because from what I know the only Dev phones were RM-820 models and that always left me wondering why there is a Dev ROM for RM-821 but non for RM-820 when on the other hand there are only RM-820 Dev phones but no RM-821 dev phones.

It's not mistakenly mislabeled b/c nokia care suite now identifies my att lumia as a RM-821 (originally RM-820) and now in extras+info the manufacturer model name is RM-821_eu_euro1_425 so it's obviously designed as a european rom.

Well this makes me wonder whether RM-820 and RM-821 might actually be the exact same phone hardware wise with only some (artificial) lock preventing cross-flashing between those variants ...
Would be interesting whether you could flash other non-developer RM-821 ROMs to your RM-820 now and also if you could still flash it back to an RM-820 AT&T or Rogers ROM.

It shows the product code for the RM-821 dev rom and identifies it as RM-821.
edit: looked at the wrong place for the product code. It still has the original ATT product code but NCS still identifies it as an rm-821
I just tried to flash my att Lumia several times but just get the phone bricked and flashed back to att rom
Sent from my RM-820_nam_att_100 using Board Express
Oddly the update menu entry is grayed out for me too but you can download a later version here:
http://www.seidea.com/2013/01/03/nokia-care-suite-pst-5-0-2012-51-4-4/
(don't forget to uninstall the old version before installing the new one!)
What @patrick92260 said about his phone now being identified as RM-821 and even with the Developer phone's product code makes it seem like he did not only flash the phone to a different ROM (with keeping the phone's original identity [model, product code] intact) but he also somehow managed to overwrite the part that holds those "phone identity information" with the ones of the Dev phone.
Maybe this has sthg to do with the version of NCS being used:
-the old version just flashed the ROM but didn't touch the "phone identity information", it allowed to flash to a different product code but refused to flash to a different model (RM-821/RM-820) and even after flashing to a different product code the phone still had it's original product code
-now the new version on the other hand might not only flash the ROM but might also overwrite the "phone identity information" with the ones of the ROM you are flashing and is thereby effectively changing the phones "identity" (model, product code) to the one of the ROM you're flashing.
This is just a theory of mine but when summing up the facts that:
-a few weeks ago I was unable to flash my RM-821 to an AT&T Portico ROM and now @alfaro58 tried it the other way round (flashing his RM-820 with an RM-821 ROM) and we both ended up "soft bricking" our phones and had to re-flash them with the "correct" model's firmware to un-brick them
-a few months ago sb tried to unbrand his Roges RM-820 by flashing an RM-821 ROM and he also ended up soft-bricking it and then had to wait for a few days until a RM-820 ROM became available on Navifirm before he could unbrick his phone by flashing one of those
[email protected] now basically did the same thing that other guy did a a few months ago (flashing an RM-820 with an RM-821 ROM) but instead of soft-bricking his phone it seems that he even managed to not only flash it with an RM-821 ROM but to actually make it an RM-821 phone.
All these facts kinda lead me to that assumption that it might have sthg to do with that new Nokia Care Suite version that was released earlier this month.
If I still had that buggy pre-Portico ROM on my Lumia I wouldn't hesitate trying to flash my RM-821 to a Rogers or AT&T ROM (because those seem to be first in line when it comes to updates - or at least they were this time) but with my phone now working perfectly with that RM-821 Entel ROM and me having several exams during the next few days I'm really not going to wipe my perfectly working phone just to prove this theory right or wrong - I hope you understand that.
@patrick92260 Which version of Nokia Care Suite did you use?
@alfaro58 Maybe you want to install the new NCS version and then try to flash your phone with the RM-821 firmware again using that updated NCS version?

[Q] How can I get AWS bands back on a bricked Rogers Lumia 920?

Hello everybody,
My Rogers Lumia 920 (unlocked and pentaband beforehand) was bricked mysteriously overnight and I came across the instructions to unbrick the phone. In my NaviFirm search, I noticed that the Rogers ROMs (releases 1232.2109.1242.1002 i believe) for the RM-820 have disappeared as there are many screenshots of them which were posted a few weeks ago. As a last resort, I flashed the AT&T ROM onto my 920 and I have lost the ability to use my phone on Wind mobile and all other AWS networks. Does anybody by chance have an already downloaded Rogers ROM they could share with me? Are there any other roms for the 920 that don't have the AWS bands disabled?
Thanks in advanced!

I just posted links to the Rogers firmware at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36686433&postcount=8 .
However, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are reports of the AT&T firmware fully disabling the AWS bands, even if you re-flash the Rogers ROM afterwards. Maybe the posts I've seen are wrong, so by all means give it a try and please let us know the result. :fingers-crossed:
Good Luck!
Wow, thank you so much!!! I'll try it and let you know how it goes.
You have just made my week
Edit: Yeah, the band is still disabled on the Rogers ROM. CURSE YOU AT&T!
Does anybody know how to do a total clearing and re installation of the Rogers ROM then? A bit of a stretch, but hoping this phone won't have to meet Craigslist or something, I love everything about it minus the fact it doesn't work on my network.
Thanks again!

After reflashing the rogers rom did you do a factory reset? I really doubt that flashing an at&t rom permanently disables the aws band even after the original rogers rom has been flashed again. That would mean the at&t rom changes a very secure low level area of the phone and it just doesn't seem that likely or anything I've heard of happening before...

Yeah that's what I meant for a reset. The only other way I can even think of getting the AWS back is possibly finding a dialer code that would let you select radio bands. I want to figure this out too b/c I have a sim unlocked at&t lumia that I want to flash the rogers rom to so I can get the AWS band.

I really have no idea then... But I'm 99% sure after flashing dozens of phones from different companies that the AWS band is not permanently disabled. We just need to find a way to get it back on. Problem is it's probably going to take someone with more technical skills about windows phone 8 (probably searching thru the root directory) to re-enable it.
someone would need to post the baseband of the rogers model and then you can flash the baseband and get your aws band back.
I read somewhere that all the lumias 920 are the same on hardware side, that they only have different softwares and firmware on the inside; rumor has it that if you could get the firmware and baseband that nokia flashes into the dev phones, you could convert any lumia 920 into a dev phone with anything unlocked.

If flashing the att rom to a rogers phone installs the att baseband (which disables AWS) then reflashing the original rogers rom would overwrite the att baseband with the original rogers baseband (should re-enable AWS) so I don't think that is the issue.

The AT&T baseband seems to stick though, maybe the AT&T rom has another file that has no equivalent in the rogers ROM that's sole purpose it to lock out the AWS band. Hopefully we can get this fixed soon, I'd love to love the Lumia 920, but at this rate, my eyes are starting to turn to the 8x.

I don't think the rogers firmware includes the rogers baseband, as the baseband is the one that controls the radios and frequencies of the handset.
One can install a firmware without a baseband and viceversa

I just updated my phone to portico and it seems that I've got the same baseband as you. Can anybody with a stock Rogers ROM post their baseband? After updating, my phone popped up with a new message when I put in my wind sim. It said "Phone mode changes. Your phone is now in GSM mode." I have no idea if you can change modes or anything like that.
Hey guys, I just wanted to jump in here and say that I'm having the same issues. I have a BUILD Dev phone that was bricked -> flashed AT&T -> flashed Rogers and the AWS band is disabled / vanished.
I've contacted Nokia Experts and was told the only option at the moment was to get me a new phone... and I've been waiting for months, lol. I'm thinking that they're going to send me a standard unlocked L920 without AWS bands but that's a bridge I'll cross when or if I get there... I was also told that the repair center did not have the ability to fix this problem and when I asked for the original firmware I was told they (Nokia Experts) did not have it.
Someone HAS to know what's going on here and how to fix it!
If anyone finds a way to get the AWS band back I'm willing to PayPal them $100. Maybe those with more skill will help if we offer financial incentive?
I'm in the US on T-Mobile for reference.
What we need to figure out first is what the baseband is on a stock rogers 920 that has never had the att firmware flashed on it. If it is different then it looks like you'll have to wait this out until nokia comes out with new firmware that has an upgraded baseband and hopefully that brings back the AWS
What about the base band from a Dev device like mine? If the Rogers would work as a reference point then I'd imagine the Dev base band would work too.
There are several users here with them. I can't provide mine because It's been flashed as I mentioned, but I'm currently running 1.0.202075.3 as well as others in this thread.

What about the base band from a Dev device like mine? If the Rogers would work as a reference point then I'd imagine the Dev base band would work too.

Is there a way to port TouchXPlorer to WP8? I think it has access to the system directory on WP7 but I've never actually used it before. That might help us extract the correct baseband.

Reverting To RM-820 From 821?

are you booting to the recovery mode? if not, this could get you past the product ID check
of course the the firmware should have at least the version that you've installed atm. or higher...

So a while back I downloaded a ROM to get GDR2 on to my AT&T Lumia 920 (RM-820). It rebranded my device to an RM-821. Now I'm unable to flash the stock RM-820 ROM in NCS obviously, because it tells me the ROM I'm trying to flash is for a different kind of device.
Is it now impossible to revert to the stock RM-820 firmware?
Edit:
It seems the problem only occurs when trying to flash to the AT&T firmware, but other RM-820 firmwares work fine. Solved.
Edit 2: It STILL seems it failed some sort of a product ID check when going from the Rogers ROM to the AT&T ROM despite them both being RM-820. That sucks.

Hi Mate, I was wondering if you could show me the thread where you can learn to Change the ROM from the 920. I want to flash my local carier's ROM over the AT&T, cus eventhough my AT&T 920 is unlocked, LTE doesn't work at all, only once did, but when I go back to USA, LTE works fine either on AT&T or T-Mobile. So my logic is that if I change the ROM, LTE will work because somehow, this ROM is blocking it and I know RM-820 works with LTE bands 1900 and AWS.
Thank you for your help in advance.
Cheers.
I'm still able to go to recovery mode. So because of this, I can't go back to rm-820? Is there any other way around this?
what happened?
So what happened? i have the same issue went to rm821 and have issues with returning to RM820
