Problems rooting my Experia U - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone! So i got my Xperia U for christmas, and i wanted to root it, me and my friend have tried to root our xperia u's but it's not working.
We have tried bin4rys, z4root and flashtool, it goes through the process and reboots, but we still doesnt have root acces, on flashtool it says "root hack didn't work, cleaning hack files".
Our versions: android ics 4.0.4 build: 6.1.1.B.1.54
(we have installed adb drivers, but we haven't unlocked bootloader)
Thanks!

Try Unlock Root, or SuperOneClick (or as mostafa says, check the forums).

use slackerzz method..heres the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029756
.54 isnt rootable so you have to flash back to .10 and perform root, then flash .54 again..it's all in there :good:
edit: theres a line there that says dont use on xU because the kernels provided are for xSola..you'd have to find a source for the kernels of xU, or you can just search for that in the xU section..

for xperia mini(st15i) there is a temp CWM recovery that you can flash with flashtool(require unlocking bootloader) and you can flash mods and when you reboot the device CWM is gone.
search temp boot for xperia mini pro.if you find maybe usefull for you.
if you find temp boot for your device you can root your device with CWM.
Rooting is the gate to modding pal. . .
You need to do it. . .
Also bootloader should be unlocked as if u wanna install custom rom some of them are only for unlocked bootloaders. . .
Rest use search button
Happy modding

To use CWM you dont need to root your phone but you need to unlock the bootloader and flash a new kernel. This WILL void your warranty but if done correctly it opens a whole world of mods in android. Sony provides an official method of doig the same in their blog(jut google) but using that method makes you loose your drm. I did come across another method(on this forum) which claimed that you could do the same without loosing the drm but I havent tried it out.

Hello.
To use CWM without unlocking your bootloader, I did the following :
Start with an xperia mini pro with official ICS 4.0.4 (4.1.B.0.431)
First, I rooted my xperia following the topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701357
Then I used RecoverX to install CWM without unlocking the bootloader : http://www.iphoneandroidtips.org/how-to/recoverx-to-install-recovery-for-sony-xperia-phones/
Then you restart your Mini Pro when Sony appears, keep on taping on Volume down button to enter CWM menu :cyclops:
Then I could install custom ROMs CyanogenTimescape, RealICS, AOKP (Roms that allow locked bootloaders)
I hope that can help you.

Rooting Xperia Mini 4.1.B.0.587

I just updated my phone from 2.3.4 to 4.1.B.0.587 , It was written on SONY website that it is 4.1.B.0.587 but as I check it in my Settings section it is written 4.0.4 , However as I read many topics this number thing is nothing unorthodox! It is actually 4.0.4 but the build is 4.1.B.0.587 or whatever ;D
Anyway again as I read many topics on this forum it is needed to have the kernel file for 4.1.B.0.587 to be able to ROOT the device.
I checked this link : talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119
There's no Kernel file for my device... (I do NOT want to install another ROM)
Is there any way to ROOT my device ?
sonymobile.com/global-en/software/phones/xperia-mini
Wrong forum, this is xperia ray's forum.
Wrong section. Post your question on Xperia Mini,Mini Pro,Active General section.
For root your mobile first you need to download flashtool then flash back to 4.0.3 using flashtool then root your phone & flash again to 4.0.4(.587)
It is not possible to root directly from .587
Sent from my ST18i using xda app-developers app
And don't worry about 4.1.B.0.587 because u just update your phone from 2.3.4(Gingerbread) to 4.0.4(Ice Cream Sandwich) & 4.1.B.0.587 is your current ROM version.
I am also on 4.1.B.0.587 & it is the latest update from Sony.

If you want to unlock your bootloader, it's easy enough to root whatever android version or build number your phone has; hotboot cwm recovery image as kernel and then install superuser using cwm.
btw, what baseband version do you have now?
In flashtool select 4.1.B.0.587 ftf. (there is no only kernel ftf, select the downloaded one)
Select (mark) exclude Fota, system and baseband, (dont thick the kernel on flash tool)...
Select 'No final verification'
DE-SELECT wipe data, cache and apps log.
(Just flash the kernel not the entire rom)
Click OK and follow instructions (power off phone, press volume down button and plug the usb).
This way you can flash .587 kernel back.

OP doesn't ask how to get original kernel back as he didn't flash any custom kernel yet.
And by assuming OP wants to unlock the bootloader, it's simplier and easier to hotboot (not to flash) cwm recovery image or any compatible kernel that has cwm to use the cwm to install superuser.

I'm pretty new to the Android universe so I do not all the special terms yet so forgive me for saying that I do not know what is "Unlocking the Bootloader" exactly. I'd be glad to read a topic on this website about it if there's any to know what it is and what are the advantages/disadvantages.
Baseband Version :8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028G-72
Android Version : 4.0.4
Build Number : 4.1.B.0.431 (???????!!!!!!!!!!)
Kernel Version : 2.6.32.9-perf
Why is the build number .431 ?!!!! I was sure it is .587, Even I checked it last night. Is it because I was messing around with Flashboot ? Can flashboot change the buildnumber ?!!

Follow this guide. At step four, "IV. Flash 4.0.4 ROM: "- Flash the build 587 firmware. You'll get it here : http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/35239?start=0&tstart=0 All other stuffs are same. You can root by unlocking bootloader and flashing 562 kernel also : http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119?start=0&tstart=0 But it's a little bit risky because if you unlock your bootloader officially, you will lose your DRM keys and track id will never work again..

[P][ROOT][.54 update] Easy Rooting Xperia P Without Downgrade

Hi,
I bought New Xperia P and i upgraded it with 4.0.4 latest frimware,I tried so many Tutorials for root but i didnt get root access to my phone so i found new method for rooting.
Its easy just follow the below steps
Note: This method is for 6.1.1.B.1.54 update
1. Download Xperia P LT22_6.1.B.0.599_Kernel.zip file attached below.
2. Flash .559 kernel via Flashtool. and start your device (Enable Usb debugging Mode)
3. Download Root with Restore by Bin4ry v18 attached below.
4. Extract it using 7zip
5. Double click the RunMe.bat and follow instructions!
(Xperia phones = Normal mode)
6. Download Xperia P LT22_6.1.1.B.1.54_Kernel.zip file attached below.
7. Flash .54 kernel via Flashtool.
8. Reboot,check for superuser app & enjoy.
DOWNLOADS:
Xperia P LT22_6.1.B.0.599_Kernel.zip
Xperia P LT22_6.1.1.B.1.54_Kernel.zip
Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18: Click
Thanks to naruto20007 & neoxx3m for kernel files.
Thanks to Bin4ry for Rooting tool
Thanks man i rooted my device with ease by ur steps
...but the steps you detailed are *exactly* downgrading the kernel, rooting that, and then flashing the new kernel back—pretty much the very steps everyone would have done since the .54 update. How is this 'Without Downgrade'?

when you flash a ROM by flashtool and default confs your root access will be lost, and about this methot: bcz older kernels are rootable and newer not.
