[Q] GS3 Network Problems - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
Have a rooted & unlocked GS3 I9300, running stock firmware.
When I first got it (Christmas) it worked perfectly. But after a few hours, I was unable to make calls (not registered on network error appears), go online or send/receive sms. I can now sporadically send and receive SMS, but it seems to be completely at random as to when I can do it.
When I turn the phone on and put in my pin, an error comes up saying I have entered my pin incorrectly, but my attempts left do not go down. 99% of the time, I have absolutely no service and occasionally, I have one bar.
I have checked and the IMEI code is still there and matching. Have tried numerous sim cards and none of them work.
Could anyone help me? At my wits' end!

Go to stock recovery and wipe data.
If it doesn't work flash a stock rom with Odin.

Tried that but made no difference!
Managed to get a full signal earlier, but it dropped a few minutes after. Could it be a hardware problem?

Go to your network settings under mobile networks, and do a manual selection of your network. Also try both gsm and hspda modes separately.

No sims work then after following above instructions and no better i would return as faulty .

Tried changing between modes but none of them seem to make a difference!
When I try to scan for networks, it say "Error while scanning for networks".
Should I just give it up for lost at this stage?

LFB network bug

I've recently noticed a weird network bug on LFB. If the phone loses signal (on subway etc.) with data on, when signal is available it acts as though the SIM was refused by the network continuing to display Emergency calls only. If I turn data on and off it gets weirder (see screenshot).
The only way to fix it is too reset the radio, with flight mode, or *#*#4636#*#*
It's definitely not a hardware fault since, as you can see it still can connect to the network. It just acts as though the connection was refused (or alternatively does something weird that causes it to ACTUALLY be refused)
Anyone else experienced this??
The phone is an original BTU using unmodified LFB on China Unicom

Are you able to set/receive calls or send/receive SMS? What about USSD codes to your provider?
I've already read about other users complaining about this issue, I guess it's a software-bug in the display.
No. I'm not sure if HSDPA will work in the example pictured. I was in a hurry to make a phone call so just quickly snapped the screenshot then reset the modem.
Messages will get service unavailable. Incoming ones don't get received until I reset

Yes, I've experienced the same thing a couple of times since LFB on carrier Telia in Sweden.
It reminds me of the phone/modem problems with the SGN which they never fixed before I sold it.

Washington D.C. has no GSM coverage inside the tunnels. Only some stations have coverage. Only Verizon and Sprint with CDMA devices have service on moving trains.

Beijing.
Well 2G is okay. But it sometimes will lose it briefly in the transition from 2g to 3g.
Only Beijing subway line 4 has China unicom WCDMA coverage. the others are limited to 2g at best (except the overground lines, but even they are patchy)

Having updated to the stock LFB ROM and modem (UK, unlocked, unrooted), I'm really perplexed about the behavior of the phone data reception:
(a) 2 weeks ago, I tried using data connection in a friend's flat in Balham (London), could not get ANY data connection all weekend.
(b) Last weekend, data was consistently perfect and fast anywhere in the same flat, all "H+" 8Mbit and lovely.
(c) This weekend, same place but NO reception again, not a saussage. Voice phone worked fine, just no data at all.
And, yes, I've seen "emergency calls only" sometimes even when there is apparently a strong signal.
Back home again (Portsmouth), phone works fine.
On the plus side, battery consumption is wonderfully low!
Can anyone explain what's going on? It feels like the data connection is sometimes reluctant to "log in" or whatever is does! It seems to have a mind of it's own.
Thanks!
You may want to try another modem like DXLF3. It has better data network stability especially in cities or areas with faint signal.
I am planning to upgrade to the LFB, but i am not rooted. Want to be sure if i have problems with the modem signal, do i have to be rooted to install the new modem driver??
Thanks in advance...

Right I turned it off took the SIM out booted back up without SIM the rebooted again with SIM but the signal still keeps dropping off I only get signal for a few seconds. I normal get really good signal where I am. Also battery is dropping quicker then normal I guess that's down to searching for signal though

orange/t mobile are doing quite a bit of network repairs and upgrades at the moment ahead of 4g, so that may account for it, try going networks and selecting t mobile, always get better signal like that here

The issue happened again. I did go to the service mode you mentioned and went to device information and it simply said "GPRS: Disconnected", I can't see any errors? I then enabled and disabled flight mode and the device succesfully connected to H+. It seems like the device needs a radio reset (enabling and fisabling flight mode or restarting the phone) in order to solve the issue. What am I missing here? Is this a common problem?

How exactly did they do that? At their end or at your end?
It happened again. I was monitoring the service menu and it didn't even attempt to have a status of "connecting" when I enable mobile data, it stayed at "disconnected". I then enabled and disabled flight mode while monitoring the service menu and it immediately had a status of "connecting" and then "connected".
With this observation, there's got to be something wrong with the phone, really. If this is NORMAL, then I can accept it but if it is an isolated case then I will be very worries. Is this grounds for claiming my warranty now? Or will a better modem firmware solve this issue?
Please help me.

Are you saying that the connection went off whilr it is turned ON? For my case, the problem only happens randomly wherein it doesn't connect when I enable mobile data but once is connected it stays connected no matter what.

I just got a new SIM from my provider but the problem is still present. I just experienced it now. After being disconnected from mobile data overnight, I tried enabling mobile data and it won't connect. As usual, the trick to solve it was to enable disable flight mode.
So any more possible solutions here?

Can't do that because my phone's carrier–locked.
I highly doubt it's the carrier that's the problem because as I've said it is not even "attempting" to connect. What do you think?

Please check your IMEI number. if it is correct. It MUST NOT START from 00.............
may be a network problem or a fault with SIM card

My IMEI number is correct, is there anything else?
I think it is a network problem/faulty sim card..
If you have not contacted your network operator, you may try:
a) wiping caches via recovery
b) flashing another modem..
If all the above fails, contact your service network.. it must be a network problem
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Did you cut your SIM card down or was it original micro SIM from carrier?
Cut Sims have been known to fail, otherwise almost certainly a network failure or cell tower failure

By doing that it will enable the data connection, which works only if he can receive signal from the service provider. And he can't even receive any signals from the provider.

From what I gathered, it means the data limit is on and its blocked his connection. That's why his browser would give him the unable to connect earning.

Updated to Jelly Bean??
if yes go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918601
Is the phone new? Has it ever worked for you? Have you considered the fact that it could be network locked(SIM locked)?
My phone ALWAYS shows "Not registered on Network" when I'm at home, that's because signal is terrible since I updated to JB (modem related).
Have you tried different SIMs from different networks? Have you tried your current SIM in a different phone?
[the phone is from 29 june..always worked bit one day data stopped working.. i got a HTC sensation and the SIM works fine in that phone/SIZE]

Yes, it's entirely possible, but you'll need to check with your provider. There is no way of checking from the device itself if the IMEI has been blocked.
Did you buy the phone new?
You could, potentially, be extremely unlucky and someone blocked the wrong IMEI code when attempting to block their own.
Ye it was new..there is no way to make it work then?

Well, if it really has been blocked, you should get in touch with your provider, and potentially have to go through some lengthy process of proving to them you legitimately own the device and didn't block it yourself. It's unlikely though, as I've never heard of a device being removed from the block list before.
Your other option is to leave the country, it will work in another country
Failing that, return it to Samsung telling them it just stopping working, you did nothing, and insist they replace it.
Probably wrong Kernel, happened often to me on my old sensation

What network are you on? I had to go to t mobile web site to get configuration settings sent to phone. All was then ok. You are not providing enough information, Network, whether phone had ever worked, if it has been modified in any way etc.etc.
