[Q] How do you recover stock/original applications prior on flashing cw9 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please bare with me since I am still learning about android and so my question is, how can I recover my applications from my tablet after I have rooted it. since the stock/original applications takes up 8 gigs of space of my internal memory. I just cannot seem to access/delete those 8 gigs??
I flashed cyanogen 9 to my SGT2.10.1 and it was successful, although I am stuck on trying to recover my applications from the partition internal memory. Of course I have done a variety of steps to recover them and some of the steps I took are:
1. I tried using the spk tool - I really do not know how to use it and I am having a hard time figuring it out
2. Trying to delete and reformat the internal memory - was not successful since it only erased of what I currently had on the rooted and partitioned memory, thus my original/stock application are still within the internal memory.
3. I tried using applications such PC36IMG-AmonRA-3.07-gnm.zip - I changed the name to PC36IMG but flashing it lead to installation fail/aborted
4. I tried recovering them with titanium back up - but the application couldn't see my original/stock applications
5. Also tried using Astro File manager - Same results as TBU
6. Deleting the files from my pc via usb- it does not give me an option to reformat it
Any suggestions? this is the final step that I need to complete to finally enjoy my retarded galaxy tab 2

U can't run system apps from stock ROM on a custom rom . some of them probably can . Titanium backup backs up only user apps like games and stuff unless u say it to do it specifically .
So if u could get the apk of the app u are looking for , try moving it to system/app with permissions rw-r--r-- . Reboot .
If it works , buy me a beer . Or else , well do nothing. !

Everyone keep mentioning "move it to system/app" I really wish I could but I have looked through the folder many times and the 8gig of apps are not showing up. They must be hidden in another folder or partitioned. Another thing I want to add to that statement is I do not even know how to do it? I apologize if I am sounding like a total nub but what is permissions rw-r-r? I do not understand. Please guide me through because I cannot fully enjoy the quality of my device if 8 out 13 gigs is being used up with me having any access and ability to delete them. Pretty please
I also use titanuim back up, and the apps are not showing as well since prior to flashing the rom I never backed it up. I would not just buy u a beer if you could help me out on this but ill buy a KEG! from ebay, amazon, name ur online beer catalogue websites DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Go to data/app. That's where the other apps are stored. And system apps don't occupy 8Gb of space! I believe the /system partition is given only 500 mb of space.!
It must be something else that's taking so much space. If you made Nandroid backups, it will be around 2GB each. Or if you have too many files.
And about the permissions, if you put an app in /system, you will have to set right permissions.
To get an idea of it, just go to system/app and just long press on any app, hit permissions, you should see the permissions like the one in pic.
And you will have to reboot for the changes to apply.

What didn't work? Moving app to system/app? After setting permissions, you should reboot.

I can't move them since I can't see the apps prior to flashing cm 9 or give them permission coz its just not showing up. This applications are BEFORE flashing cm 9 which is taking a lot of my memory. I have rebooted numerous times even formatting it as well

First and foremost WRONG SECTION.... U think asking question in Original android development section is rite??
BTW stock apps means system apps only... The apps u install from outside is third party apps... U asking abt the apps u installed before or installed after flashing?? Before means obvi it ll be in SD card.. After means it be ll in ROM...

I'm talking about this
that does nothing.
that screen only comes up, when you flashed a stock ICS 4.0.3 rom without wipe. it does not actually install apps, it just scans app folders like /system/app/ and /data/app for already installed apps to integrate in the launcher. maybe it also checks compatibility with android 4. but at the moment that screen shows up, all apps are already installed.
it is just a marketing thingy to pretend to perform app migration after upgrading the OS. if you upgrade through kies and had auto-restart checked and were unable to get to recovery to perform a factory reset prior to the first boot, you will see that screen appear after the first boot "installing" all your apps. then if you reboot into recovery, factory reset the phone and reboot, you will see it only "installs" the few stock apps and all user apps are gone.
this migration, together with not wiping your phone when flashing, will make it slow and unstable over time. it is the same thing with a windows pc. of course one could upgrade the OS, say, from vista to 7, and installed programs and settings might get migrated but in the end, everybody who knows, what they are doing, will still format c: prior to installing a new OS and install the programs afterwards for them to run perfectly.
and all stock apps, that survive a factory reset, wipe are in fact system apps in /system/app
they can still disappear when flashing a new rom.
your best bet is to backup all your apps with titanium backup pro and after flashing a rom or performing a factory reset, you select batch and restore all user apps + data. that way, you can simply install 100+ apps with a few clicks, and their respective settings (scores, customizations...) will be restored as well, which would not be the case with the way you suggested.
so, not only is your way not practical, it is also next to impossible. and it would make no sense, crumming all user apps in the 512MB system partition and leaving the 2GB data partition empty.

thanks for replying
sure I'll not put my all apps in the system/app. I made a rom and put my apps in the data/app and after flashing I got all of my applications installed and working too except some of google apps like google+ and drive. I think that screen shows us it's installing the apps not just scanning, because I searched the rom for these apps I didn't find it, so I think it's packed somewhere and I hope to find it

[Q] What A Mess, Titanium Backup Drama

Been running the latest ViSiON-X. Chugging along as normal when I decided to switch launchers, went from Buzz Launcher back to Nova Prime. Things started acting kinda weird so I tried reinstalling Buzz Launcher from a TB, thing just hung there and didn't install the backup. I'm trying to remember the order of my actions within the last 24 hours, I've been very ill past few days so my mind's a bit fuzzy. I did flash comadose either before or after I discovered this issue with Titanium Backup.
In any case, I decided to reflash the ROM and after I signed back in to Google I downloaded TB and tried to restore my backups. Nothing. No backup found and I couldn't even set my backup folder to my external SD any longer for some reason. I even had trouble installing the paid version or key for Titanium Backup Pro, either the install will fail with some kind of SD storage error message (forgive me I can't remember exactly what it said) or the install would just hang and not finish. I had to restart and keep trying until it finally installed. Ugh...
I've no idea what happened. I fixed permissions but that didn't work. I tried editing the permission file by adding the media line: <group gid="media_rw" /> but that didn't work.
The apps themselves wont be such a big deal reinstalling but the data was quite precious. The other major issue is even now I still can't set my Titanium Backup location to external SD. I've no idea why this has changed in the last 24 hours. I'm at a lost.

When I'd try scanning the entire device it would just hang on 9% and not move.
*UPDATE*
I formatted my external SD card. Before I did I checked the size of all my files and it was almost 500MB. I have no media there, I was using my external solely for my TB files so it seems the apps and data was there but no way for me to reinstall to my phone through TB.
Oh well, starting from scratch now. Reinstalling all my apps one by one from the Play Store. I still need to get an idea on what happened here and why TB was stuck on 9% like that when I was trying to scan the entire device. Other than the problem of using my external SD for my backups once again I would still appreciate help getting answers for everything else I mentioned above. Thanks guys!
Even though my data from my apps is lost FO EVA it feels nice starting from scratch. Kinda like enjoying a nice long shower after a crazy night partying but regretting to lose that girl's number she wrote on your hand. I've even configured my phone in a different way than before and I like it better. Still, I'd love to figure out what the heck happened so I don't have to go through this again. Any help would be appreciated.
download an app called sdfix and it worked like a charm. Now I can do titanium backup's on my external sd card. SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
Thanks for that! After formatting my external SD I was able to set Titanium Backup to it but I'll still keep this app on hand in case I have problems in the future. I'm still not any closer to finding out why the phone was hanging at 9% when I tried to scan the entire device looking for my previous backup or why I started having problems applying my backups before. It seemed to happen out of nowhere. Perhaps comadose had something to do with it I don't know.
@Resolute Blue kit kat has removed permissions of apps writing to extsd so stock kk which visionx is based off of doesn't support writing to the external properly. The ax man posted a fix in the visionx rom thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51811976 direct link to the post. Hope this helps.

Cool cool. New visionx version should be dropping soon, probably with the sdfix built in and more. The current version is mod free due to the mods causing issues with the nc5 update.

Also there is a couple apps in the market under Kitkat Sd Card Fix that do the same thing

AFAIK if you have your sd card formatted to ext2-4 and the system runs into a filesystem error, it sets the partition to read-only. maybe that happened here?

Just flashed ARHD

Just flashed it the other day. Why is my other so high? I just installed the apps that I normally install. I have the ROM file saved on my phone. Should I delete it?

"Other" is anything on internal storage that doesn't fit the description of the other categories. The ROM alone is probably a GB or more. Also did you make a Titanium backup, or nandroid? Those take up storage, also.
I like to keep a known good ROM or nandroid (but not both, as that is excessive) on internal storage or removable SD, in case anything goes wrong I can restore with one of those (although you can pretty easily get it on the phone or SD if needed, so its just for convenience). But aside from that, its not necessary to keep the ROM zip.

Did you outright delete the nandroid, or at least move/copy to your computer or SD first? You have 17 GB free, so unless you make a copy, discarding backup data for the sake of unneeded space seems like a poor trade-off.
Do you understand that flashing a ROM does not wipe the internal storage? So anything you saved there before the flash is still there. Unless you choose the option in recovery to wipe storage, which will then of course cause you to lose any personal data stored there (backups, photos, etc.).

The nandroid is in my PC now. Forgot to mention that. I'll dig deeper into my phone. I don't really care about the extra storage space but if it's something that I can just delete then I do wanna delete it.

There are various apps to look at storage, but I find that one to have a cool and useful interface:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage&hl=en
It visually shows you how much space a folder is taking up, and you can then tap on it to drill down.

Wow this a really nice app. Thanks for being so patient with me I really appreciate it. I'm not a brand new android user but when I had one before my ex took care of all the stuff like this. That's why I'm still needing help in some areas because I switched back to iPhone after my my touch 4g.
Can I delete the ROM file that I downloaded since I already flashed the ROM?

I recommend you to visit this thread first.
Is there any method I could unlock the bootloader and root my phone without losing any data?
And also don't tell me that I need to buy any paid programs, I don't want to pay to unlock my bootloader.

There is no way to unlock bootloader without wiping data.
I really am surprised sometimes that people prefer to write some new post that is the same as other posts 89653654645762 instead of using a search engine and finding a topic that interests you. It is like a factory reset - the phone goes back to stock, no user installed apps, no user files, no user data, no user settings. Do a backup first (google or MIUI).
I want to ask another question: what is the best free backup tool that I can install on my laptop and connect my phone so I can backup EVERYTHING, like the data of the apps, all the files, all the setting and everything!
And also: Will it erase data on the SD card?
I don't have a need for backup other than built-in Google. There are other solutions, you should use Google search or Forum search for that.
Regarding SD card - if it is setup as removable storage then it should not be erased, but to be safe I always remove it b4 factory reset. If SD card is setup as phone storage, then it will be erased.

That looks like portable storage. To be sure, unmount it, remove from phone, attach to computer and check you can see all the content in a file explorer.
Hello, guys, this is an update, I removed the SD card from my phone and now I'm using Xiaomi cloud backup tool. What will it backup?
I want to backup Apps, The entire filesystem, app data, settings, and everything.
Will it backup all of that?
Edit: It finished backing up and it's the total size of 3.9 GB but I have 74.43 GB of space occupied by the filesystem, what did it actually back up?
I know that google play store can back up you installed apps, but not the data! Please tell me what did it back up.

You can do that if device is rooted only.
