Ive tried about a dozen "mono" apps and have found nothing that will do what I want. I have also tried the Droid Incredible and my current phone the GS3. I have a 2011 BMW and for some reason they didnt include a2dp in their stereo system. Nothing I do will force the stereo to play music or notifications, or read out lout texts through the car speakers. The only thing that will go through is phone calls.
HOWEVER, Ive accidentally discovered something interesting. If I am on a call through bluetooth in the car and navigating at the same time, the navigation voice will come through the cars speakers as well.
So what I need is something to trick the car into thinking my phone is on a call, thus triggering the bluetooth to transmit phone sounds through the speakers, this way I can use a text message reader, music, whatever.
So the app/hack would need to emulate whatever the phone does with bluetooth signals when it starts a call. All sounds the phone makes should go to bluetooth.....which it seems like its already doing while on a call.

I have a lexus that also for whatever reason doesnt have A2DP supported, there is a app called BTMONO that will make your radio think your phone is in a call and will transmit sound. However it is mono tone so if you are doing it for music it will not be your best bet.
I am still looking for something that will play music in stereo without the A2DP

I am working on this now for the SoundAbout app.
Tried searching and I could not find any other threads relating to this topic. I am trying to trick my car (Lexus) bluetooth into playing music. It does not have A2DP. Has anyone come up with a way to do this? Has anyone been able to do this with the SoundAbout app ?
It worked !!! I just tried an ap called "blue2car" on my iphone . .... I own a 2006 Bmw 530xi . ... damn , I wish I would have found this app 8 years ago ... it cost 10.99 but it is worth it ......

I am sure this may be an issue for some people. my car stereo has bluetooth that links with my phone and mutes the car stereo and turns on speaker phone when a call comes in. i like the fact that it mutes the stereo since i usually have it very loud, but my problem is i cant set it to default to the phone earpiece and not the speakerphone, even when i answer a call and press the button to keep it on the ear piece, it switches right back to the stereo a second later, i press it again and it stays on the phone. i have had this issue with all my other phones as well and it drives me nuts. is there anyone who can come up with a fix for this?
i appreciate any input anyone may have on this.....

It is not a problem with the phone, it is to do with bluetooth profiles as they are designed to communicate with TWO devices not THREE. I also use car stereo for playing my music. I do not get that many calls while driving so I never use my bt headphones.

sorry about posting in the wrong forum. I am only trying to get it to default to the handset when i pick up a call. i do not use it to play music, so i have no need for that to even be an option, i just want to be able to pick up a call on my phone, and have it stay on my phone while it uses the bt link to mute and un mute the stereo. i find the speakerphones in car stereos to be totally worthless for talking, but i find the mute feature very useful.
I am trying to see if there is any software out there that will allow me to use my phone as a listening device or "bug" and listen via bluetooth.
Basically I would like to be able to have my bluetooth headset on and paired with my phone, activate the app and be able place my phone someplace so I can listen to conversations or sounds picked up by the phones mic over the bluetooth earpiece/ headset. I have looked all over but have not had any luck with finding something like this. It seems like it would be fairly easy accomplish.
Any help would be appreciated.
My Galaxy S3 connects to my car's Bluetooth and allows me to make and receive calls. However, notification sounds are not playing via Bluetooth. It seems that the phone is sending the sounds to bluetooth but the car system doesn't play them. The result is that I have no audible indication when I receive a message when my phone is connected to my car's Bluetooth system.
Similarly, if I try to use S-Voice it would seem that the phone is expecting sound input via bluetooth and not from the phone's built in microphone, which means it does not detect any sound. Audio output also does not play on the phone or via bluetooth.
Presumably my car's bluetooth does not support receiving such sounds - only supporting basic phone functions. I cannot find any configuration settings on the car system to enable it.
Is there any way of stopping my phone trying to send notification sounds to bluetooth and to just play these via the phone's speaker but still allowing the phone to be connected to bluetooth for making and receiving calls? Similarly can I force S-Voice to use the phone's microphone and speaker if it cannot be made to work with my car's bluetooth?
S Voice on AT&T Galaxy Note Bluetooth In Car
First off, I am having the same issue, I tried even holding down talk / voice command button on steering wheel, No luck. I have a 2012 Kia Optima GLI full Nav and Voice command options. I have my Note working nicely with Team Perfection ICS R2, S Voice is fully functional except:
When using S voice in car connected to car Bluetooth (pushing search button on bottom of phone face) it tries to accept audio input from car Mic over Bluetooth, but never receives input. Can't find any setting in S voice app to change input setting from car to phone mic. Not sure why the car mic doesn't work other than just not supported by the s voice app? Anyone out there know of a fix or work around?
s voice does not work over any bluetooth
I have tried this on multiple Bluetooth devices. It does't hear anything and it responds with a very feint. Robotic distorted voice. Music plays well on Bluetooth but I have had problems with phone calls.so maybe the problem is the Bluetooth stack rather than s-voice.
I am having the same problem with SGS3. When I was testing s-voice on SGS2 you could set s-voice to use SGS speaker and mic for voice commands and notifications. Now I can't find that toggle.

It works fine on my headsets. IT doesn't work in my car.
spanout has nailed the problem. It apparently does NOT use the mic in the phone when hooked to BT. The car is not designed to pass voice to the BT. The car BTs typically have their own voice control, and as such is handling the voice itself.
When you think about it, it makes sense. Less chance for outside noise if it takes the input from the mic on your BT device, as likely the phone will not be close to your mouth.
The only way we'll get it to work is to find a way to enable the mic on the phone when on BT. Probably would need help from the DEVs here on that.

the real kicker is SIRI can send her voice over the car speakers and utilize the car mic.
so logic says, its purely a BT setting on the software ice cream and s3.
any apps for that? or any dev's want to chime in?
im using a very simple bmw bluetooth (not idrive).
it cant stream music, so i dont know how the fak siri can send her voice over it.
I have this problem with my SGS3, and had it with the SGS2 in my Ford S-Max. The problem is Ford's. Using the phone with a parrot car kit has all notifications fired over bluetooth.

same with a jabra freeway with latest v3 firmware and a galaxy s3 i9300xxblfb.

so switching the s-voice and nav to MONO works with bluetooth, but the a2dp or whatever protocol it uses normally doesnt work.
however calls are done using a2dp, so wtf?
can someone make a quick app that just forces ONLY s-voice and NAV in to mono?
the apps out there make everything go mono or nothing at all...sucks for voice call quality
I needed to revive this thread as a search for my problem led me to it.
1) Is anyone able to play a video on the S3 (GT-I9300 4.1.2) and stream the sound from the video to the car while connected via Bluetooth?
I am not.
2) S3 notification sounds do not play via the car's speakers when receiving a text message or email etc.
I can make and receive calls just fine and even play music from the S3 via BT by selecting the phone from the list of devices on the car's screen.
Blutooth / Voice App Issue - SOLVED
First of all this does work on my 2009 Highlander, but it's a bit Kuldgy.
BT Mono allows my voice app to work, but by itself it's not a solution. You have to activate it manually before using S-Voice, Google Voice or AVX. It opens the connection and has to be activated each time or it can be set to reconnect automatically…. Killing my radio.
Download the free version (I can’t access the play store to give you the link) and see if it works manually. If it works for your test then the rest should work as well.
Install Tasker:
Create a task to keep the screen from locking when your state is Bluetooth connected to the car device.
Create a Task (you don’t need it in a profile)
- Set bluetooth on (in case it’s off)
- Load BT mono (with auto on enabled in the BT mono app)
- Wait ~400MS
- Load App AVX (or S-Voice, or whatever)
- Wait 9 seconds
- Kill BT mono
- Kill BT mono root (it wasn’t always killing BT mono)
I’ve been thinking about trying to simply reboot the BT (BT off then wait then BT on) rather than kill an app.
You can add the task to your home screen as a widget…. Still not safe to do while driving.
That’s where GMD Gestures comes in. You set a swipe command, I use 2 fingers down, to launch the task.
Seems to work pretty well. I can keep my eyes on the road and still use voice commends. You do need to hang up the phone when you’re done talking, but I had to do that with Siri.
I still wish there was a force mono on all connections app, but I still haven’t seen one. AVX just added the ability to force mono for speech, it’s worked for other people, but I’m still trying to figure out why it doesn’t work for me (he's had reports that the Note 2 doesn't like his solution, Kudos to him for trying to add this).

BT Mono may work for me because I'm rooted. According to the app on the store (pro version) Apparently Samsung, in an effort to prevent call recording, blocks the ability to re-route the microphone.

I am having a problem getting the phone part of my new DNA to work with blue-tooth in my car. The A2DP works great but after I answer or make a phone call with my Car Stereo (eclipse 3200) I cant hear anything and they cant hear me. If I use the dial-pad on the phone to make a call I hear the tones from the button pushes but nothing after the call is connected.

I have a Sony bluetooth player in my car and it will not even recognize the device.
Edit: It was a user error on my part. I have successfully paired and it works flawless.

My car recognizes and pairs with the DNA, but it will only play the first 1-2 seconds of music, then the radio stops receiving any audio. Sometimes it works properly and will play songs completely, but the majority of the time, it will cut out. I can pause and unpause it, and I'll get 1-2 seconds of music, then it stops again.
Also, any high pitched sounds (ie. cymbals, percussion, etc.) are very distorted. I had this same issue on the Thunderbolt The Galaxy Nexus I had for the past year had no issues and sounded perfect over bluetooth.
I am disappoint.

I think the phone just has bluetooth problems in general, or BT4 is just not 100% backwards compatible. I have a Pioneer stereo, and never had any problems with any of my android devices (OG Droid, Droid X, inc2 and gNex) connecting, but when I connect my DNA, it actually crashes the phone process on the handset and it restarts (the process, not the handset). It still appears to be connected to the stereo after that, but I haven't tried making a call yet.
Stereo doesn't support BT streaming, so I can't test that. Has an SD slot, and that's all I ever use.
I'm having the same problem. My music will play for about 3 seconds, then goes silent. The car says I'm still connected, Google Music is still playing, but it mutes out. Was having fun while driving hitting the pause/play button to listen to a song 3 seconds at a time. Does anyone know if this is a OS problem, hardware problem or incompatibility, or other problem? I didn't see many posts about this elsewhere and haven't heard back from Verizon.

Working fine for me with my Kenwood. Music does skip occasionally, but my other phones (galaxy nexus, thunderbolt) have done that too.

For all of us who suffer a HTC Toyota combo and the dreaded bluetooth pause issue I believe I have found the issue and got a working solution !
From what I gather, the HTC music player sets the bluetooth player state to pause when leaving the music player and most other apps do not set it back to streaming. I found one which does, so a simple solution !
1. Start and stop a piece of music with the Fplay music player and it will reset the bluetooth player state to streaming. I put a widget on the home screen.
2. Start your other apps and enjoy streaming sound again.

I have my phone paired with my car's OEM bluetooth (confirmed by my car), but everytime I try and stream a song it still plays through my phone speaker instead of my car, even though my car shows it playing. I've used 5 other android phones with my car with zero issues. Any ideas?
With the sim card issue and now this, I'm thinking of returning this phone.

I'd say its a simple menu option on the phone. Mine is perfectly happy to play music and navigation instructions through the Bluetooth. Are you able to make/receive calls through Bluetooth?
Try something for me.
Open up the YouTube app and at the top there will be a blue button. Press it. This toggles sound through speakers/Bluetooth.

I have never had your problem however. Since i have and the DNA after i paired the phone with my car. While in the Bluetooth setting i had to click the radio option to connect it. It never would automatically connect till after i did that. Now it connects when i turn it on.

My wife's DNA autoconnects ever since we originally paired hers to her car, and I don't remember having to enable anything beyond just the initial pairing.

Only one of two things I can think of:
- You get into the car with another device connected with AVRCP capabilities, and it's taking priority over your car's media audio connection. Thus, you're left with the car connected to phone audio, and your bluetooth headphones/Jambox/etc. playing music. HOwever, you specifically mentioned the music was playing through your phone speaker, so the only other possibility is...
- Go into settings, Bluetooth, and click on the sliders/settings icon next to your car's connection name. Ensure both Media Audio and Phone Audio are checked.
Beyond that, I would try unpairing all your Bluetooth profiles and reconnecting them. BT has been pretty finnicky for me, across handsets and accessories.
Sense devices haven't worked well in my car. Other devices have seemed to work a little better. But my car is a 2005. So think it depends on the car software. You might try upgrading the firmware on your car's setup if all of the other options fail.

I also do not get why my dna won't stream through BT in my car or truck. I mostly listen to Pandora...I know there is a BT setting in the app and I have it enabled. I can receive/make calls fine but if I want to stream Pandora through the vehicles speakers, I have to plug in the 3.5 mm jack. In my BT settings on the dna, I only have Phone Audio, no option for Media Audio? In BT settings, under Advanced, there is FTP server (not checked) and Message access, which is checked and that's it? I have not tried another music source to try to stream, but I'll try that next. Update: just tried Slacker radio and it doesn't come through the vehicles speakers either

Where exactly is this "radio option" you mentioned? I do not see any setting for that in Bluetooth on the DNA, maybe you have that option in your BT settings in your car? Can you actually stream Pandora in your vehicle through BT on your DNA (stock?)

You have to be connected to a Bluetooth device. Its next to the sear h button.

My car, when pairing asks for a second step to enable Bluetooth audio... it may be a setting within the cars BT system...

There is a Bluetooth audio streaming problem with the recent non-GPS Toyota head units. I have a 2012 4Runner, and I'm only able to get the Google Play Music app to stream for a few seconds. The phone thinks it's still working, but nothing is getting through to the stereo. There was a thread about this started over on Rootzwiki. I've been told that the stock HTC music app will work, but in don't keep any media on my phone. I've tried Audible, Play Music, and Dog Catcher. Bluetooth calls work just fine.

It isn't enough that your head unit is "Bluetooth enabled". There are many capabilities: phone, hands free, BT audio, etc. On many models, only phone capabilities are included. For BT Audio to be output, you need a head unit that is A2DP capable (above, I typed AVRCP, which is incorrect - AVRCP allows the BT device to control playback...the RC stands for remote control). A2DP is the profile the BT device (in this case your head unit) uses to tell the phone what capabilities it can handle. In this case, it's only telling the phone it has headset capabilities, and therefore will never output audio. Solution: get a new head unit, or just continue to use the 3.5MM jack, which has two benefits: it's ****ing free, and you can take advantage of the Beats Audio amp within the phone.

Yes, very helpful, thanks. And yea, its really not a big deal to plug in the jack...my car and truck both came with audio jacks so at least there's that.
