[Q] Google Now Notifications - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have Google Now on my Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus. I enjoy using it mostly because it reminds me when to leave for appointments in my calendar. I just recently tried an App called Popup Plus to try and get the screen to wake up when I have to leave for an appointment instead of just ringing the notification alarm. Problem is that you can select what processes you want to wake up the screen and show a popup message but Google Now does not appear as one of the options. I was just curious if anyone might know of a possible solution to my dilemma.
Pretty much with how often notifications ring from email and everything, it is very easy to miss one about leaving for my next meeting. But the option for the screen to wake up when my tablet is sitting right next to me on my desk would be nice. That way I can dismiss the notification and get ready to leave. Any thoughts?

Calender snooze from lockscreen doesn't work

I like how on Sense 3.5 my Outlook Calender reminders pop up full screen on the lock screen, however, when I drag the 'snooze' button to the lock ring, i never get another reminder again (snooze doesn't work).
Under settings on my Calender, it looks like it's set to default to a 10 minute reminder.
Anyone else having this issue? And any idea how can I get this working correctly?
(I'm wondering if it works with Google calenders (which I do not use) and not with Outlook or something...)
Is this Calender lockscreen snooze button working for you? If so, what version of Outlook do you use? Mine is '03.
I just came from the Evo3D and the same problem there. I have installed Caladar Snooze
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bitfire.development.calendarsnooze
Which is free, and this is something that I now cant live without. Works flawlessly. When a caladar event comes due I hear a reapeating reminder and when I open my phone I get a full screen with options to snooze for minutes to days and its quick to select and no worries cause it works and will remind you, not like the stock snooze.
I liked it so much I bought the Key
The UI is something less to be desired but very reliable so far and have had it for 5 months
How does Calendar Snooze play with the built-in calendar alerts? Do you have to dismiss two notifications? (i.e., does the lock screen alert still appear?)
good question. When an alert comes up you dont see the stock snooze lock screen. you see the calandar snooze in the notification bar and after you unlock the full size menu screen pops up and you have to make your choice, 5 min, 1 hour, until, for, dismiss
Just to further answer my own question: Calendar Snooze has a setting to appear on top of the lockscreen and wake the phone when it alerts. Still have to dismiss the lockscreen if you want to access the rest of the phone.

stop notifications from lighting up screen?

notifications waking up the screen are killing me.. if my phones in my pocket and the screen wakes up, then every step i take, my thigh hits the screen and keeps it awake for hours till i check the phone or it dies first..
sometimes when i get certain notifications, such as low battery, it keeps the screen on indefinitely (ironicly battery warning is a huge battery killer lol..), so does charger connected/disconnected.
anyways there's my rant, my question is,
; has anybody come across a way to stop the screen from turning on when getting a notification? it already lights up, vibrates, has a smart reminder option, and a led indicator, I'd really love to stop the screen from lighting up.
ill give 'Thanks' to anyone throwing out suggestions

are you talking about the sms app? use a custom one
SMS app is one culprit, so is email, Google talk, battery notifications, LINE messager, and a zillion other 3rd party apps.. itd be much more realistic to find a lock screen off solution, or remove the service that lets apps lightup the screen

Easy fix, get SMS popup app, go into the stock SMS app and disable notifications, now go into the SMS popup app and in notifications , click and enable notifications. Now go into additional settings and unchecked screen on for pop-up . That's it, you'll get notifications without the screen turning on.

Soraxd,
What lock screen do you use?
I have a good workaround, but it involves using WidgetLocker lock screen which is hands down the most killer optioned lock screen around.
Let me know if your interested.

soraxd,
Workaround...works pretty much flawless on my S3 with ICS.
Install Widget Locker. You mentioned that it was not as fast as your stock lock screen. On my old retired HD2 and my 6 month old S3, W.L. is actually faster than stock. The key thing is that you have the settings maximized...which include disabling the stock lockscreen from withing ICS/JB settings. (I can give you more info if it runs slow for you) I just set my wife's new S3 with the same configuration and it works perfect. I can unlock and relock W.L. pretty darn quickly...no delays at all.
Then in W.L., I use a simple Iphone style unlock to slide and have that at the bottom of my W.L. screen so my thumb can easily reach. I have many widgets on the screen. (agenda/last caller/clock etc) Then I use a free app named Invisible Lock Widget. You drop this widget into W.L., and you LAYER IT OVER all other widgets except the slide to unlock. (This is one of W.L.'s coolest features)
First off, W.L. should be set for 10secs time out...so less chance of your leg re-triggering it in the first place. 2nd thing, when your leg triggers the screen because it has turned on due to a notification or what-have-you, then Invisible Lock Widget actually re-locks the screen. It's that simple. Sometimes I press the menu button to turn my screen on to look at the time, and 2secs later I click the screen and it quickly and easily turns off thanks to I.L.W. Once you get used to it, you will find it is very convenient and efficient. Like I said, it's a work around and also has other benefits.
Widget locker can be set to suppress the "power button long press menu" if it gets triggered in your pocket. It cannot suppress the "low battery" warning popups that show up above W.L. but the dev might be adding that. (I requested it) I have a Tasker workaround for that. If your running Tasker, I will share that with you. It works like a charm. With all these little workarounds, I no longer do the "Pocket Launch thing".

Google keep's reminder notification problem

Hey Guys,
I have a nexus 5x.
I am using google keep's reminders but sadly I get a very short (one second) notification on the screen if the screen is on
or a notification short sound (shorter then usual notification sounds) when the screen is off.
There is no notification on top of the screen that I can scroll and see like in the past.
It seems like something is blocking it,
I gave Google keep permissions to my contact, storage and everything that is possible.
I've enabled the locked screen notification on google keep's settings
nothing seem to help.
Seems like something is blocking it and in this way I can't see the reminders that I set
Would appreciate any help on your part.
Thanks.

Google keep's reminder notification problem

Hey Guys,
I've been facing this issue for a long time now and would highly appriciate any advise here ...
I have a nexus 5x.
I am using google keep's reminders but sadly I get a very short (one second) notification on the screen if the screen is on
or a notification short sound (shorter then usual notification sounds) when the screen is off.
There is no notification lasting on top of the screen that I can scroll and see like in the past.
It seems like something is blocking it,
I gave Google keep permissions to my contact, storage and everything that is possible.
I've enabled the locked screen notification on google keep's settings
I've also reinstalled google keep and it didn't help ..
I've downloaded many reminder apps like any.do and evernote but they face the same issue as I've mentioned above.
The only way I can get a reminder is if I put a reminder in google calander's built in app
But I don't want to use it
Would appreciate any help on your part.
Thanks.

Notifications During Active Call

Hi guys. I just switched from Apple land and trying to get used to the Android ecosystem since I've been using iPhones since the iPhone 4.
The biggest pain point for me is getting a handle on the notifications. Apple gave you a lot less control over what you see so I'm a bit overwhelmed with the amount of control for SOME apps (I guess it depends on how granular the developer makes it for the users).
My current obstacle is receiving notifications while in an active call. I spend most of my work day in meetings so it's important to see notifications showing up in real time. When I'm on a call the notifications are causing a vibration or alert but there is no popup to indicate which one just came in. When I slide down the notification center I don't think the notifications are sorted by date/time so I have no idea which one just came in.
1) is there a way to force notifications to pop up on screen even when I'm on a call so I can glance at what it's about?
2) is there a way to sort notifications based on date/time so I can make sure the topmost one is the most recent?
3 bonus round) does anyone have a good solution for more iOS like notification bar that looks less congested and confusing (this is one of the only things I miss about iOS)
Thanks.
