It's too early to say anything
And there's a forum "ubuntu on phones" on XDA
You can see that for further information

HAHAHAHAH That's the spirit

Got that thread.... hope it will support our 2011 handsets

I think our 2011 xperias meet the requirements but I'm afraid that the internal memory may be an obstacle. But how can I see there are no impossible things on XDA so there is a chance

I don't think internal memory is an obstacle... I have a nexus 7, and internal memory just acts like sd card. Besides, if it's gonna be like any rom, what problem is that? I just hope our devs will get it, i saw the 22 min video and it was awesome

I hope to try Ubuntu on my device

For sure I would like to see this one working, hope to be good.

As a use Ubuntu as my main OS, i should try Ubuntu in my phone, but seens the minimum spec is an Dual Core 1ghz its too much for my LWW (single-core 1ghz), but if i can install i will, maybe with some optimizations i can run it well.

Therefore new modified kernel will devolope by devs.....n finger crossed
Sent from my WT19i using xda premium

it needs 2.5GB ti 3.5 GB on a fast sd card.
a high cpu
and 1 GB ram
as minimum.
It won't work well

My CM7 Build - Devs chime in

Been working on a build of CM7 - got my laptop back up and running and thought I'd tackle this. Last night I started the build and woke up this morning to this:
make: *** No rule to make target `vendor/samsung/c1-common/proprietary/BCM4330B1_002.001.003.0128.0162.hcd', needed by `out/target/product/galaxys2att/system/bin/BCM4330B1_002.001.003.0128.0162.hcd'. Stop.
Any idea how to get passed this? From the looks of it, I was close to the end of the build process
Thanks I appreciate any help...
Sort of got this resolved. Codeworkx simply stated its an issue of missing proprietary files. Ill have to copy them over which I'm not sure why they weren't in the first place...

Thread moved to General since there is no Dev work being made here... yet. If you happen to fix your issue and want to make a rom, then start a new thread in the Dev section with a link pointing to the rom.
Thank you and have a nice day.

Debugging a compiler error isn't development? Perhaps the so called development forums are becoming too focused on showing off wares, with little or no attention being paid to actually developing?
At first he was asking a question about decompiling. Since he answered his own questions, I threw it in General. Since he is not offering a rom/kernel/tool then this does not belong in the Dev section.
Thanks I guess.

Exactly, it is a question so it would belong in the Q/A sections not the development section. This stuff isn't new, read the forum rules. Quite simple to understand if you ask me.
The way I see it, its just red's opinion. He sees it fit in here then so be it, his opinion and we just have to live with it. Regardless its still all search able information.

Actually, it is not his opinion, it is xda rules. The only posts in the development boards, are posts discussing actual development. If the post is a question, it has no business being on the development board. Examples of acceptable dev topics:
Release of a new/updated rom
Release of a new/updated kernel
Release of a new/updated hardware specific patch
Release of a new/updated hardware specific app
*Technical * discussion of ongoing hardware /software development (rooting, bootloader, etc). Asking when root wil be available is not technical.
If your title for a post is in the form of a basic question, it does not belong in development, period.
I have to play devils advocate... but with the understanding that I'm doing just that and not really arguing...
I posed a similar question to Red in a PM. If I have a question asking how I can Retro fit Samsung propriatary shared libs into a new program I'm writing, or where I might find headers for those libs, where does that question go? Its certainly technical and development related... it also doesn't seem to fit in the q&a subforum (which doesn't seem to have any dev questions but is more general.)
Yet, its a question, and doesn't belong in the "development" subforum under a strict interpretation of the rules (which seems to say that the dev forum is only used to advertise mods, roms, etc)
Red suggested the q&a subforum. I disagree, but he is a moderator.
Not being sarcastic here, but perhaps we really do need new subforums for posting links to the result of development and allow the development subforums to go back to discussing that and other development. (Or vice versa) long ago when I first joined xda, discussing development was encouraged (and the primary purpose of xda-DEVELOPERS.)

I understand how you feel and would love it myself but at this point and time with the influx of Soo many non tech minded people that don't know the diff Between a normal question and a development related question that all questions are pointed to the Q&A.

ROMS for N7000 on I7I7??

Do the roms that are built for the N7000 work for the SAMSUNG-SGH-I717?? I only ask because...
1.) The I7I7 has only one ROM available and its not ICS where as the N7000 has several ROMs available.
2.) I know its possible because I run Desire HD roms on my HTC Inspire.
Thanks for all the help guys.

They have jobs and lives outside of xda and do mods in their spare time. Plus this phone is only a month old

Apples and oranges. The Desire HD and Inspire 4G are basically the same phone. The hardware is the same except for some minor differences with the sound hardware. The international Note and ATT Note are completely different phones. The only thing they have in common is the size, screen, pen and they have similar cases. That's it. Everything else is different.

Absolutely questionable response and uncalled for...even suggesting that isnt humorous and maybe you should be concerned as to what people will perceive about you. Im just about sick and tired of all the rudeness and blatant self rightgeousness on these forums, members need to show some self-respect by not being rude. This forum has some NEW RULES as the base subscriber is no longer DEVELOPMENT ONLY the majority of us are not developers...they have their own section for each device to which noobs are restricted and should be, so giving people and noobs a hard time for something posted in the GENERAL and Q&A sections is ridiculous, so maybe show a little restraint if you choose not to help and just move on without posting anything!
Listen, I know a lot of noobs and others make mistakes and dont follow the rules but why jump on them outside of the DEV's threads? If you do as a senior or junior member then you also are breaking the rules!
NEW Forum & Marketplace Rules;
2.3 Flaming: XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.5 Courtesy towards other Members: Treat new members the way you would like to have been treated when you were a new member. When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instruction when you can and always with respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner.
10. Help others if you can.
If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do. This place exists because people are helping each other, and even if you are relatively new to the matter, there's probably already quite a few people newer than you that would benefit from what you've learned. Don't be shy.

[TIP] How to apply as a Recognized Contributor

I thought of reposting this so that members in this forum may know how to apply as a Recognized Contributor. This is just a repost and some minor modification of what s.d.oconnor posted over at the General Forum
So over on the Recognized Contributors forum, it has become clear that most members of XDA don't know that you can apply for the title of Recognized Contributor (RC).
What is a Recognized Contributor?
Recognized Contributor is a role intended for members who produce some of the best original and helpful guides for users, as well as helping other users who have problems, in a friendly manner. Recognized Contributors will get a custom user title and the faster ad-free XDA template, as well as access to developer tools currently being created. Any Senior Moderator on XDA can add Recognized Contributors, should you feel deserving of this title.

How can i apply?
Well like it says in the text above, you can apply for this title by sending a PM to any Senior Moderator (list of Senior Mods below).
Best way on how to apply through Private Message (PM)
When you are writing you application to a S-Mod you will need to include:
* A polite hello
* Your username with a link to your username, they will want to check your history.
* Why you think you you would make a good RC, including a little about your time on XDA.
* Links to your work including Guides, Ref, Roms, Projects, Apps E.T.C
*A thank you for their time and good bye (Manners are free)
Note:
Please note only apply once to one S-Mod, do not send 3 aplications to 3 diffrent S-Mods. Also be patient, the S-Mods are very busy people and have other work on XDA and in personal life.
Senior Moderators List
You can find the Senior Mods HERE
If you do get accepted as a RC then please come and visit the RC's forum and help contribute to our work and cause to make XDA a better place. If you have any questions then please ask, i will or other RC's will help in anyway we can.
Good Luck with your application
P.S Don't forget to join our group made by s.d.oconnor if you get accepted.

Forum Division!

Hi all!
Does anyone knows why do we have to share forums with P,U,sola etc when other phones like htc one v or titan, se neo, x8 and other low end galaxys have a separated one? Even ion has one.. Can the S at least be separated along with sl acro s into a new forum cause its very confusing to navigate with so many Sola P U Tipo and miro forums..
Thanks!

I assume because the software is all very similar?

Hello Xperia users !
I understand your point of view. But instead crying out loud how about we take it on to ourselves in getting this forum organized ? Each & every member of this community should be help each other in getting the forum organized.
I have a few ideas & would request everyone to suggest a few of their own which if implemented to the word could help in organizing the forums & make it easier for everyone to access the relevant information. That's what everyone wants right, to have access to the right information ?
Let's make having a TAG before each & every thread which tells us about which specific device it has information/on going discussion mandatory/compulsory.
Some examples of the Tags could be:
[XS], [XP], [XU], [SOLA]/[XSLA], [XGO], [XAS]
Just politely inform the Original Poster (OP) of each thread to update the title of the thread to reflect the correct Tags, let's try to make this forum more accessible to everyone.
Even the official Sony forum is split in to handsets, although it lacks the enthusiasm and of here at least you can see what's what.
Blame Sony for releasing too many damn phones. Many of which are just too similar.
I don't blame the mods. If I was one I'd do exactly the same thing.
You think they don't have anything better to do with their time than create and organise forums for so many niche devices because Sony are losing their mind?.
If the brand is this diluted, why should anyone wonder if people loose respect for it and just lump them all together.
To be fair to the S, it deserves its own separate section because it has a lot of users. Far far more than the rest put together.
The rest can and should be lumped together

For me, it's not about the troubles of finding a particular thread [though it is a terrible mess] it's not seeing the thread in the first place.
Like this thread, only came upon it by chance, but the chances are slim with so many non-specific [to my needs] threads filling the first page.
I have no experience with running a forum, but as there are 30+ xda forums, why not a couple more..?

What is the need?Already development section is separate, only General ,Q & A and Themes & Apps section is same for all devices.
In Themes and App section, there may be max of 4-5 new threads per day.And most of the mods and themes are compatible with 2-3 devices.
In Q & A and General, users ask same questions again and again, instead of searching. With tags ,it can be easily accessed.
I don't see the need of forum division for now..
What we request is for more organized like other forum that's all brother

That's your opinion, sure, I find it messy and unorganised, it's also not pleasing to the eye:
[XperiaS]
[XPS]
[SXPS]
{XS}
All the same handset, but if you scan the forum with your eyes, all those above look like different models, so you have to read the word, then decide what it is before moving on. But hey, that's just my opinion but that's why I feel the need for a seperate forum.
Also, many old threads don't have these prefixes, so the device is unknown, for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599303
What phone is that for? How is that "Xperia S, P, U, Sola, Acro S, Go General" anymore? It's not...
just make it like this
S Acro S SL Arc HD
Sola P U and Go!
Tipo+Dual , Miro
Combine the Xperia J with old forum like the Neo V
T and TX together
V
Ion
First I want to be clear in this matter forum specific moderators like myself and cooleagle do not decide or control how xda makes device forums this is done by administrators. We just try to our best to keep what they decide in order and keep the peace.
Some of you who are saying things like posts from today are already on the 2nd and 3rd page already should have a look at a high end device forum like the galaxy SIII the general section has 4 pages of posts just from today. Even with 6 phones this forum does not generate the traffic of something like the SIII. The thing that some are losing site of is that xda is a developer's site and each phone for this forum has its own development section this is the information that should be the most important to our members. As we have already stated making subject lines that say what the device is critical to keeping the general and Q&A sections more organized.
If you are unhappy with the current set up then I suggest you go to the New Forum Request thread and post that you wish for a change but while you're there take a look at how many devices don't have any type of forums at all.

E.

Part 2
If you look at the threads with a sticky you will see that cooleagle has created a thread for general discussion for each device in this forum.
Maybe some of you should conisder creating an index thread like neectron took the time to do for the xperia themes and app section. If you few members would volunteer here to take one specific device and go threw the general section and find the important information and create a thread for it we could then stick those at the top of general as well or once completed cooleagle and myself could combine them into one thread. Just a thought for you guys and gals to consider.

Hi thanks for the reply.. I get that our phones may not have the sane traffic as SIII forum but again why does Ion have a separated one? I believe the S has more people than ion
Thanks

It cant be ported just like that, nor will the 2011 phones be able to run it. Its not android, its a brand new operating system.
Wrong thread..its development section not discussion
Lol...there is already 2 threads in general forum about the same topic.....search before posting anything....
Dev forum is not for discussions...
