Removing useless apps and getting the TapNTap dock to work on other roms

Hey folks, I have two general questions.
Ill start with the first easy question.
I would like to get the dock app that comes in the stock rom in an apk that will work with other roms. The dock I am referring to is the one that shows the weather and news and other various information in a sort of gigantic widget and you can scroll thru the different screens in the dock for different information (and at the bottom is a list of all the installed apps). And I would like all of the apks that this dock app uses as well.
I have tried just pulling out the dock.apk file out of the stock image file and sideloading it, but the problem is, it crashes the tab on bootup with every rom I have tried.
This second question is a bit more tricky because every rom has different apps they decide to include that are simply not necessary. If an app is available on the Google Market, I dont want it preinstalled with the rom, I will install it manually myself. If an app is installed that does not make use of the hardware (see the Phone apk), this app is using resources for absolutely no reason I can see and should not be included with the rom.
So, what I am looking for is, a list of all apps that normally come on a stock Google phone (in other words, apks that are included with the Android stock rom BEFORE manufacturers add their usual crap to it) that can be safely removed from all roms for the Gtab because the Gtab does not have the hardware to utilize said app (I would think anything like messaging, the phone, or the gps).
I am not looking for guesses here, I am looking for someone who knows a bit about Android and can safely determine what can be removed that is COMPLETELY useless regarding the GTab because of its hardware.
If you are still completely confused, here is a link to a website where someone has done something similar to what I am talking about with Windows. Read the paragraph or two at the top and then click a link below the paragraph based on the version of Windows you have. This will tell you services you can safely disable. I am looking for the same thing for the Gtab.

[Q] Samsung general question!

There is no section for Samsung general questions so im going to post it here.
Why did Samsung give up on kies?
its such a beast of software! the first of its kind on any andriod phone! (cept for htc sync, but did nothing that kies had the potential to!) it could back up your phone straight to your computer!, it could sync media, contacts, calendar, texts, apps, everything!
i just found out about kies like 2 days ago and i downloaded it thinking its all updated and working perfect and come to find out i see the copy right date and it say 2009! there hasnt been any kind of udate for over 2 years! why?!
just with that software samsung could of really took the android game by storm!
id think it was because of the mentality of the android users, what kies seem to try and do was make a sort of itunes-y type of program but for android, one of android biggest selling points is that it isnt help back by the constraints of install proprietary software just to use your device, if you want music on there, you drop music on there, if you want pictures on there, you drop pictures on there, this kind of simplistic yet infinity customisable approach is what killed off samsungs bash at making an android organiser
It's a laggy POS. It takes forever to load. Doesn't flash firmware properly. Doesn't allow you to add music per folder but wants to scan the entire system. Just terrible. Only thing you instal kies for are the drivers.

[Q] Post rooting question (before I actually root this crazy thing)

Hey guys, I am about to follow the root instructions found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354487
But before I do it I want to know what features could/will be lost in doing this. Obviously the auto-update (which makes complete sense). But in general I like the interface for now. It has its drawbacks, but I like the built-in mail client and the browser is fine for the most part. In the future I might also want to try ICS on it, but for now I am happy to use the built-in interface.
I really just want to root so that I can side load apps so that I don't have to pay B&N for apps that are otherwise free on the Android Market. That and I have never been a fan of auto-updates. But I want to keep the mail client and I especially want to keep the ability to read their entire digital catalog for free while I am in a B&N store.
Hell I would like to take that a step further and get it to work outside the store if possible. But I would settle for just keeping the original feature. I tried it earlier today and I love that feature.
So I would like to know if I would lose any of those features when I root this device. Does anyone know?
Thanks,
Patrick
When you Root you can still use the stock Nook "Home" launcher. You can install a second launcher and switch between the 2 on the fly so that you have "Nook Mode" and Tablet Mode".
2 warnings:
1) when I rooted and added Gapps, something broke the stock email client and I was not able to find a quick way to fix it.
2) I have not found a way to get Android Market or side loaded apps to show up int he stock Nook "library" so they can only be accessed via the "search" function or my using an Android Launcher with a normal app drawer.
I use the Nook Color App Manager to add sideloaded apps to the stock Nook home screen and/or library. It works great.
There is a detailed artile at liliputing....Do a Google search for: "How to add sideloaded apps to your NOOK Tablet home screen, app library" As a new member I can not post a direct link. Sorry.

Hey guys it looks like the read in store ability works just fine still. I got this device rooted last night. Now iwant to see if this ability can be retained somehow while upgrading to ICS. It would also rock to be able to access the in store readable items from any wiring connection.
Thanks for the help!

[Q] Cydle M7

My mother bought one of these Cydle M7's some time ago- actually not a bad device, it works pretty well. However, of course, it's lacking all of the gapps stuff (no market access, maps, etc etc). Cydle has it's own very limited market. I've played around a little with it, seeing if I could get the market installed, etc, but I haven't seen anything on this device anywhere.
Anyone have any idea if the Cydle M7 has any developments anywhere?
Thanks!
Try downloading the newest market apk from the forums or Google. Drop the apk onto the SD card and install it using the native package installer. That should work for you.

Moving to Q&A
I have tried this in the past, but ran across some error. I will try again though, when I have time. I disremember if I was able to gain root access on the device, so that may be an issue as well.
Thanks for the tip.
I have an M7 that I have been playing with. I use Drop Box to load apps and have also been able to load the Amazon Market. I have loaded Google Services Framework and the Google Market app, but it force closes. It is a nice tablet with the built-in stand. I keep it on my desk and use it to stream music over WiFi. The HD output is also nice. I have not looked into rooting it, but so far I haven't needed to root it to do what I need it to do.
I am a complete n00b to the Android community. I picked up an M7 recently, and have used Aptoide, Amazon and other alternative markets pretty easily. However, there are three apps I was really looking forward to using: Evernote Food, Evernote Hello, and IQTELL. En's apps don't seem to want to install from the other sites, and IQTs isn't available from them yet.
I have rooted my M7 recently, with much nervousness and trepidation, with a friend's help (online help only) and am wondering if it's worth it to try to figure this out.

[Q] Need some pointers about a custom ROM

I have recently updated my Galaxy s2 to the lollipop ROM but I don't have Samsung link anymore and when I tried to download it on Google Play it say's my device does not support it. Can you tell me the best custom ROM that is basically bloatware free (all the annoying Google books apps etc) that has the ability to screen share to my Samsung Smart TV. On my stock ROM, all I had to do was press the icon at the top of the screen (when I 'm watching Showbox etc) and it would instantly transmit to my TV and now there is no such icon. I checked and the phone don't have all share (or link or whatever it is called now). I'm basically looking for the minimum fuss ROM with this function on it. Thanks for any help.
