[CLOSED] Official CM10.1 Nightlies! - Nexus Q General

I can't even believe it!
in the same day official cm10.1 for my phone (note ii) and the nexus q!
...
Enjoy!

Yeah it looks great. It breaks the original functionally though. Unfortunately, that's a deal breaker for me
The maintainer said it will probably need an official 4.2 Bluetooth stack release from Google to work.

Yes def need to find a way to add thwe original functionality back to it maybe as an app that can be launched

Works amazing the only thing i'm having problems with is connecting a mass storage usb hard drive with stick mount, for some reason I cannot get it to read the data, other than that, this is the absolutely perfect ROM for this device.

Absolutely and a way to control the device remotely would really help me on my setup. I don't have a monitor hooked up.
Great to see development continue.

You know you need a otg usb cable to connect a wired mouse right?

No don't no anything about this device , I've had cyanogen installed on 16 different phones first time not a phone let me install those drivers and c were it takes me much appreciated . I do have that cable though

I was really excited when I heard CM released a build for the Q but was sad to learn it breaks functionality. If any one has any success using apps on the device such as netflix but retaining the Q's original functionality please share how you achieved this. :highfive:

Quantum Singularity ROM allowed this, but the problem it didn't include statusbar, navbar and activated backgrounds, which were the things I was most waiting for, so I've switched to CM10.1. I'm sure in due time they will have a way to implement the features that the Q originally had, alongside CM10.1
With the OTA update center of CM10.1, it's amazing, i have mouse/keyboard connected wireless. Finally can use the Q the way I wanted to from the beginning.
Only things broken for me on the 2nd nightly right now are:
-Play store
-USB mass storage
-chrome browser doesn't work?
-volume control with Q and Keyboard don't work

Play store works fine for me

I don't even have an option to sign into my google account in the settings on the 2nd nightly, so im not sure how ur signed in to various google services.

Well that's because you didn't flash the gapps. You want the 4.2 ones, gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip

do you have volume control with keyboard or the Nexus Q itself?

cool i got play store working and google sign in no problem now with gapps.
Im trying to hook up a bluetooth to act as a mic for skype calls etc and google search with no luck so far..
and I still can't get the chrome browser to function. but the stock browser works fine for now
and also because a lot of the default Nexus Q functionality is missing I can't control the audio output to be analog/hdmi/optical, so I can only get HDMI right now. I was using analog to go to a non powered sub before for better sound

22nd Nightly Correction: looks like volume control is being partially implemented.. not quite there yet
Let's try to gain back control of the native Nexus Q functions with the Nexus Q app.apk, to control sound output methods etc. Analogue/HDMI/Optical etc

Switching ROMs broke my push notifications

Lately I've been trying many different roms and recently fixed my Facebook notification (via BB simulator method) and Pageonce (by enabling email notifications) but after I flashed a new rom they stopped working. On Google Music I had a message "too many devices enabled" so I checked it out and and my S2 was listed multiple times (for all the roms) as variations of i777 & i9100
Is it possible my notifications aren't working because the apps think they are working on "other devices"

Nexus Q Working on ICS

I have some of this posted in the Q&A but thought it deserved a thread here as I now have it working with Google Play Music on ICS. I have not been able to get the new YouTube application ported over to ICS yes but I'm still working on it.I could probably get this working on Gingerbread by changing the manifest again but I no longer have a GB device so if someone really wants it let me know.
What you need:
The modified NexusQ.apk file from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28636772&postcount=23
The new 4.3.605 Google Play Music apk which is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19423409&postcount=1
A Nexus Q and WiFi network.
A device running ICS. I used my Bionic running leaked ICS but I did have to root in order to install the new 605 Play Music application.
Instructions:
Install the new (4.3.605) Google Play Music application from Steve0007's posted linked above. If you get an "Existing package with same signature.." error you will need to do the following (this is what worked on my Bionic):
WARNING: ROOTING YOUR DEVICE AND CHANGING THE SYSTEM FILES CAN CAUSE BAD THINGS TO HAPPEN, PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Root your device (I used this method on my Bionic: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...gh-releases-ics-leak-root-exploit-bionic.html.) Install Root Explorer from the market and delete the existing com.google.android.play.music.xxx.xx.xxx apk from /system/app. Reboot device. Copy 605 apk to device and install.
END SCARY ROOT WARNING
Install the modified NexusQ.apk, plug in the Q, turn on Bluetooth on your device (it will prompt you to if you don't) and get connected! I had to go through the process several times before it successfully paired up but from what I've read the same is true on JB devices as well. If you need to wipe out the Q you do so by unplugging it, plugging it back in and as soon as the blue ring starts place your palm over the single LED on the top until the ring goes from flashing red to swirling purple. This will factory reset the device. Since getting both my Bionic and Xoom paired it's worked well.
Enjoy until the official ICS and below apps drop from Google.
If anyone is successful at getting the JB YouTube application working on ICS please let me know.
Thanks to everyone that helped me get this working!
Thanks a ton!!! I've added a link to this in my roll-up (here) in the general thread so others will find it. I'm now able to use my Nexus Q, thanks again!
Eventually I'll start learning to do some dev work :/
I followed your directions but I still cannot stream anything, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I was able to get the Nexus Q 8 Ball easter Egg to work.
What is your current status? Do you have the 4.3.605 music player installed? If so you should have the little "beam" icon on the top right when playing music and tapping that should make the Q almost instantly start streaming that song.

Sorry it doesn't work. I'm on a Galaxy Nexus on CM9 and the NexusQ.apk installs and says play music needs to be updated but it doesn't update. Did you read the part about needing to manually remove the old play music application via root explorer (or a simple uninstall if allowed)? Have you tried either?
I wasn't too happy with Google either but the support page for the NQ does say that it is only working on JB until purchased units start shipping. Plus I've learned a lot getting this to work! ;-)

Yes I read that but the old play music was not in the system\apps directory but it was still installed so not sure. I force stopped it and uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still would not let me install the one listed.

Just though I should specify what rom I had success with. I copied the app to /system/app folder and changed the permissions. I did NOT have google music previously installed. When I ran the app to install it said install failed. I then installed the NexusQ app directly from my SD card, which installed no problems. I did not try to run the NexusQ app and rebooted the phone. Once rebooted i turned on my WIFI and bluetooth and launched the NexusQ app and rebooted the Nexus Q. The app paired up with the Q no problem. I was then able to run Google Music app and play to the Q with no issues. *NOTE* When i walked out of the house (i did not manually disconnect the wifi or bluetooth, just hit the stop play music button and turned off the TV and receiver) and came back later, turned the TV and receiver back on, the visualizations or music track would not show at all. Just the NexusQ home screen. I rebooted the Q and everything is working fine again.
No, youtube does not work (which I think is posted an original post somewheres). It seems that a ported app will be needed to push youtube videos to the Q. I cannot test Google movies/TV as I dont own any.
I've tried exactly this on my HTC One S running ICS (albeit with HTC Sense) and can't get it to stream to the Q.
Everything installs fine (if I move it to /system/apps and change the permissions as mentioned) but I see no option in the Play Music app to stream to the Q.
Additionally, the new Play Music app looks it has lost quite a bit of functionality to the previous version - perhaps indicating that the installation went badly? For instance, there are much fewer options on the settings page and there's no option to choose or configure my Google account anywhere.
bobukcat - is this the case for you?

It still took a bunch of tries to get it to do anything though.
For a long time, and several reboots, the Q didn't show up in the list of devices in Play Music...

At least now I can enjoy it a bit until they release the real apps.

The Q app first.
When the Q finally showed up in the new Play Music app, it was after turning wifi off/on a few times ... don't know if that's what finally did it though.

No, my play music application has all the previous functionality and even more options in Settings, including Nexus Q settings. Did you install the Q application first? I don't know why this would matter but that is what I did.
Did you just move the new play music apk to the /system/app location or did you actually install it from application manager in Astro or other file manager? I don't know that just moving the apk to that folder will work (I don't think I even tried that) so you may have to delete the old one, reboot and then install the new one from the apk. Please try that and let us know if it works.

Yeah, I've tried to rebuild the YouTube application from JB with a new manifest multiple times but I still can't get it to work right, I did finally get it to install but it just constantly FCs and never really runs. Clearly someone much more skilled than I (which wouldn't take much) at modifying apks would need to look into this or we just wait for the official app from Google to drop.
Strange that the volume control from your phone doesn't work, as long as I'm in the Play Music application it works fine on both my Bionic and Xoom.
As reported in the OP I too had lots of errors and force closes, etc. when trying to get this to run the first time but from what I've read that happens on JB devices too and in fact I had a few on my Xoom running TeamEOS nightlies.

Fitbit app

My wife gave me a Fitbit for Christmas (Apparently, she wants me to get off my butt more and move around!)
The Fitbit is a small wearable device that measures your activity level, etc. The Fitbit app uses Bluetooth 4.0 to sync with the device. The sync function is working with my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone, which is setup with a custom ROM. The app does not sync on the G Pad using stock firmware.
According to the specs I see, the G Pad is supposed to have support for BT 4.0. I don't have any other devices that use it.
Does anybody here have a Fitbit device? I'm curious to know if anybody has tried to sync one on a G Pad with different firmware. Or on a GPE device. It might be that it would work on a 4.3 or 4.4 ROM.
I have a GPE and the app syncs fine with my Flex. I did, however, participate in the Fitbit beta program when they were testing for devices other than the Galaxy series (namely Nexus and Motorola devices with BT 4.0). My Fitbit app is version 1.8.4 if that helps. Here's the link to the beta program: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ZVjMd9JsDyo45g7uUV60clx7D780ouDka-wgNwvqxmA/viewform
Yes, I was playing with my new fitbit all day yesterday and unless you have one of their devices that is currently known to be compatible you have to be signed up for the Beta program. I am currently running android 4.4 with the cyanogenmod.
I signed up for the Beta by joining the google group here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/fitbit-android-sync-beta
Which allows you to go to: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.fitbit.FitbitMobile
Where you click become a tester. You then need to uninstall the fitbit app, clear the cache for the google play store (I used Clean Master to do this), and reinstall the fitbit app. You will now have the beta version of the app and when you login it will automatically find and start syncing to your fitbit. Note that by default the background syncing is turned off. If you want to be able to do this you have to enable it under devices.
Indeed LG gpad Hardware supports bt4. You need 4.3+ Android for bt4. I tried it with cm and it works.
If you want stock experience, then you have to wait for the Kitkat release.
Forgot to add : I tried it with a polar h7 bt4 heart rate monitor. Works great.
Not necessarily true regarding needing 4.3. They do support the LG G2 which is still on 4.2 stock. Im using it with mine and it syncs fine to the G2. I've never tried syncing to my G Pad tho

Good to know. I might check the fitbit after all.
Unfortunately the polar h7 doesn't want to pair with my Stock LG g2. It is after 4.3 that Android provides platform support to bt4. The solution that LG and Samsung used in the lower api levels apparently doesn't pay nice with all hardware.

Correct. The Fitbit app syncs on my Galaxy S3, which is using a custom rom running Android 4.1.2. That version doesn't support Bluetooth 4.0., so I think they must have it working with Bluetooth 3 on some devices.

Looks to me like the app checks to see what device it's installed on and the sync features are only enabled for certain devices. On the G Pad, I can check my my dashboard, etc., but I can't sync or interact with the tracker. On the S3, the app lets me sync and do other things.
I've no way of trying this myself but to you guys who say that you should have support for BT4.0, you could try and trick the device that will not sync. Go into the build.prop and take the ro buildnumber and name and so on and change them to the same of a device that you are certain it works with. If the the Fitbit is checking up against a buildnumber or model number, chances are it's from the build.prop. And could be funny if you could actually trick it just by making your phone into something else. ^^ (That is if BT4 is supported as said.)

Ah, rule number one of flashing KitKat: When done go to play store and get supersu, run it and let it update the binary. Choose normal, not CWM\TWPR. Let it finish the install, takes10 secs or so. Restart and tadaa root. It has to be done on all devices for now. Go into supersu after reboot and find Settings and then untick "Respect CM superuser bleh bleh."
Good luck.

Good luck.

My phone is running a custom 4.1.2 Rom called Lucidian. Would this still apply to that? I have superuser already working on it. And on my gpad running 4.4.2 cm11 I didn't have to do that to get root.

And you have tried build.prop and it worked on your G Pad with CM 11? Funny, I had to do it on two different devices and just assumed I would have to on the G Pad as well. Now 4.1 i don't recall had any root issues, beats me why you can't edit the system on that one. Anyways, sounds like an incomplete root, like what happened in ICS 4.0 on the first Galaxy Note. Gave root but didn't do it for the full system..

Liquid Smooth Rom and LG Health Step Tracker
Can anyone tell me if the LG Health step tracker could be incorporated into this rom? Would it be just backing up the LG Health apps and installing them. I'm not a developer but have gotten around Flashing for a few years now. Thanks for any help/info!
enable boot animation sound
Is there a way to add sound to the boot animation? I tried the power on.ogg and poweron.mp3 neither of them working. I'd appreciate the help. Thanks

The LG health app most likely requires LG framework. I suggest you try google fit or up as a replacement.
AOSP vs Stock Battery Life Question
Do AOSP ROM's (Liquid Smooth, for example) get better battery life than stock roms?

I see, figured so. I was just hoping that the pedometer feature could somehow still be accessed by the new kernel or whatever. I'll check out Fit,maybe it has similar features. Just looking for the step counter...should be simple enough.
How is the battery life for you guys?, i havent been able to test it from a full charge.

Both fit and up will track steps in stock roms. Haven't tried in this rom yet though.

FIT seems to work just fine so far. Thanks for the heads up.
I want to install this rom. I was reading on that I need to decrypt my phone and SD card before installing this rom. How do I do that? I have never had to do something like that before.
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app
superb
Smoothest, fastest rom I've every installed great job. Looking forward to being able to add my own custom boot animation sound. Have tried but so far not able to get one to work.

dpi
Changing dpi using app settings from xposed does not seem to work. Bluetooth audio is laggy. Not laggy on stock

Mouse Toggle [ROOT] Nice!!

I first got this app for my FireTV and loved it. Developer now created an android tv version compatible with nexus player.
It allows you to use your stock remote as a mouse. Root is required on the nexus player.
No brainer for $0.99 as it eliminates the need for a separate bluetooth mouse or trackpad.
IMPORTANT FYI: The mouse function works WITHIN apps but not on the home screen!
Link and author's description:
Mouse Toggle [ROOT]
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fluxii.android.mousetoggleforandroidtv#hw-item-401
Add a mouse mode to the stock remote control or gamepad for Android TV.
NOTE: ROOT access is REQUIRED for this app to function.
Features:
Works just like a regular mouse that can click, long click, wheel up, wheel down, and drag.
Simple to toggle between regular remote and mouse modes.
Requirements:
1.) Android TV device(see below for supported devices).
2.) Stock / original remote control or game controller.
This actually work surprisingly well and includes an leanback icon, although I kind of wish we could hide things like this from the lean back launcher itself...

I agree with you on the leanback launcher icon. I know there needs to be a way to launch the app, but I hate scrolling through the list of apps when I know I won't be starting it up all the time.
Just tried the app. No go on Android TV 6.0. It kept on saying starting but sat there. Ended up asking for a refund. May try it again later when bugs are worked out.
Sounds cool but I will stick to my Logitech K400 Plus. I'm in and out of chrome on my nexus player anyways. However, this would have been helpful for me with HBO Go when it had to be sideloaded. Now it is available on the app store though so remote works great.

Which method did you use to root your Nexus Player? I have restored the device via the factory images(https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=en#fugu) and have used both methods(post #1 & #2) in the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/wip-android-6-0-marshmellow-t3219344
I flashed the factory images before each attempt to root and tried each method a couple of times. The app worked great during all 4 tests so hopefully we can discover what is different with your setup.
Thank you
Bought this for my fire tv and it was probably the most useful app ive ever bought for the price. On NP Im really just playing around trying to find a good use for the device. Right now im using android M rom (no leanback UI) and stock remote is useless. DOES this app work with the custom roms?

Still waiting... I finally broke down and forked over the cash for droidmote. Its a good app but doesnt replace a physical remote imho. You want to be able to just feel for the buttons when your watching tv. A phone or tablet isnt the same. Good rom. Itd be great if the remote worked.

Well I went ahead and did the same thing to only find out I cant even download it because it doesnt show up in the play store for me. But I am running a custom rom and that might be the issue. I've emailed the dev but still waiting on a reply.

Shouldn't be any conflict. The double tap of the play / pause button does have to be pretty quick(~400ms).
I would recommend opening the app and then toggling the enable switch off and then on to see if that helps. Did the SuperSU app prompt you for permission initially?

I did. And just took your advice and toggled on/off. Also rebooted just to see. But its working for you on 6.0? Thats strange. I just get normal remote functionality. Tried it in netflix where its needed but no cursor appears. I do have wifi keyboard attached. Would that cause issues? Doubt it since i quit droidmote and turn off keyboard. Ill keep trouble shooting but never had any issues with your app on aftv (also with wifi keyboard so yea thats not a factor)

Other devices won't cause any conflicts so you are ok there. Just to confirm a couple of items: The Nexus Player is rooted? Was the app granted root access and is it listed in the SuperSU app?
If you want to email me that may be easier.
Thanks again for your patience.

I just heard from another user that had the same issue. Apparently the Nexus Player remote was somehow displayed as 'Spike' instead of 'Nexus Remote' in the Bluetooth paired device settings. They were able to resolve the issue by un-pairing the remote and pairing it again which correctly identified the remote as 'Nexus Remote'.
Any chance your remote is also named 'Spike'?
