[Q] Firmware upgrade error - Galaxy note - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

First off, I'd like to say that the video I watched before registering is comical!
I need help! So, being a complete noob to all this - I will allow you to tell me if my phone is the b word!
I just purchased a used Samsung Galaxy Note 1 - Model SHG-i717R (Rogers - Canada)only a few hours ago. The phone was owned by a kid, who advertised it as rooted and unlocked. I only really needed the unlocked part as I'm a Telus customer! Put my SIM in at it worked. Got home, boyfriend looked at it and the counter was already at 5 and the binary read "custom". The model number in the phone info read something like N7005 (if that makes any sense - it didn't match the model # on the back of the phone i717). The boyfriend decided he was going to install the original rom on it which he downloaded from sammobile, specifically for Rogers - Canada. He attempted the update in Odin, and it failed (twice). After it failed the screen stated the following:
ODIN MODE
Product Name: SGH-i717R
Custom Binary Download: YES(5 counts)
Current Binary: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
FIRMWARE UPGRADE ENCOUNTERED AN ISSUE. PLEASE SELECT RECOVERY MODE IN KIES & TRY AGAIN.
Tried Kies, but it wouldn't recognize the phone.
He attempted to get the phone back into download mode with no luck.
When you pull the battery and put it back in and press the power button it does vibrate - but then shows that above mentioned screen. When i connect the phone via USB to the computer - it makes the connected noise and looks for the drivers but can't find them.
So, question is - am I bricked (soft or hard)? And, if not/so - is there a way to fix this?!
Thanks in advance! It's really going to suck if I just wasted all the money!

Push and hold volume down, and power for 15 seconds.
If DL mode is present, the device will vibrate 3 times at 5 second intervals.
Release both buttons after the third vibration, and you should be in DL mode.
Then push a factory image via Odin.
If no DL mode happened ....JTAG ...g
Edit : if you get an image pushed successfully, you must get the CWM recovery pushed also, Then wipe all data then caches, and factory reset to clear the device of the garbage....g

Uninstall kies and all drivers.
Reboot.
Reinstall everything.
Reboot.
Swap usb ports on pc.
Always right click odin and run as admin.
You should be able to flash just a custom recovery image with Odin, then flash a custom rom zip in recovery.
N7005 is the version from Singapore with compatible hardware to the I717 variants.
Flash counter doesn't matter until you're returning it for warranty...which being a second-hand owner doesn't apply to you at all.... I would have left well enough alone of it worked.. our tried another custom Rom. Why he wanted you to have the stock rom (eww) is beyond me.

My friend has the problem

I dont know what JTAG and g mean.... Did I mention I was a noob?!

Jtag is a way of recovering a truly bricked phone.
"....g" is just how he ends every. single. post.
As a signature. G as in greg, his name.

Haha, ok. So what is the process of JTAG?
I held the volume down button and power button... the custom os warning comes up - i still keep holding. The phone vibrates 3 times.. I let go it then vibrates a 4th time while not being pressed and gives me the same screen!

JTAG is done by a professional, it requires both special tools and the know how. Not to be done by the common user.
I don't think it's too the point of needing jtag, there is still life. A brick is when the phone exhibits all the electronic properties of that red baked clay building material it's named after. Not. A. Damn. Thing.
Hold all three buttons till you feel those vibrates, then let off the power while still holding the volumes. Hopefully you'll get sick recovery where you can try a factory reset.
Or hook up to pc and then manually push a custom recovery image with adb.

It's still doing the exact same thing - no matter which combination of buttons I try. It's also giving a 4 vibration after I have let go. It did show the Samsung logo for a second before giving me that screen again though.

Have you done the first steps I mentioned?
Uninstall everything phone related.
Reboot.
Reinstall.
Reboot, swap usb ports on computer.
Then try kies emergency firmware upgrade from that screen you're getting.

Did one better - tried on a computer that has never had anything phone related installed. Kies doesn't recognize the phone.

This person is in Canada, I dunno anywhere other than mobiletechvideos to send it to.. and that's an international shipment. Trying to save some money... Still a few things to try Mr. Pessimist.
BUT it's going to be more advanced.
You're going to have to install the android sdk, and see if adb sees the phone at any point in the process. If it does, you can then manually push a recovery to the phone and then flash a rom.zip from there.
Like I said, advanced and it'll take potentially all day to research and get set up... but jtag itself is $40 us.. not to mention shipping.
The above mentioned process is completely free...

Wow. I'm sure we have no idea how to do that! And, which person is in Canada?

Where is the best place to find the steps to attempt this? I dont want to just use random google searches. Any reccommendations?

This site is the best place ....
Search here for SDK and related topics.
It's not going to be a 1 hour deal....as the device is jacked up pretty good.
It does not fit the total definition of hard brick, but if manipulated attempts to get into DL mode have failed, and Kies can't see the device, it's basically the same outcome.
Studacris is attempting to get you studied up on the android SDK, which simply means the tools used to access the device at the development level.
The obvious outcome, would be employing the SDK, and pushing files manually to the device via the android debug bridge, or ADB for short.
There is still device activity, thus we feel that it might be receptive to the attempt.
But as mentioned, it will take some steep learning by you, and some serious patients and attention to detail.
If done incorrectly, you'll make it worse.
So there are your options....
Either send it off for JTAG repair, or install a working SDK environment onto your PC and learn the grass roots of android.
The third option ....find the guy that sold you a brick, and beat him with it ...
(Third option not sanctioned here )....g
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA Premium HD app

That 3rd option would be to break up with the dude who borked it.. hahaha
Whoever sold it...sold it in working condition.

Sorry OP ...
I'm unable to help you further ...
I've been asked to leave ..
But before I go ....I'd like to point out that a device without drivers, and no connection capability, "IS" a brick.
And would require the same repair as a brick.
Mrhaley ....please see my post before this one, and understand that I do have a genuine interest in helping this user.
Many suggestions and options there ...and I would be very interested in hearing your solution for a device exhibiting the problems listed above .....g

bricked vibrant

installed the newest whisky rom this morning, all was well, did a reboot and now phone just goes to a screen with the phone to pc icon and nothing else. i cannot access adb or odin! please help. vibrant bricked!
Here is a couple of methods to get into download mode. Once you get to download mode, follow the directions in my next post...
First Method
1) Pull the battery, sim card, and sd card.
2) Reinsert battery but do not press any buttons.
3) Plug into usb that is connected to your computer. If something shows up on the screen (charging logo) then you should be golden.
4) Hold the vol up, vol down, and power until the screen comes on, immediately release the power button but not the other two. Hopefully it will boot into download mode and than you can use Odin to get back to stock.
Second Method
1) Another method that seems to work for some people is to pull the battery, sim, sd card.
2) Reinsert battery and hold both volume buttons but do not press power button.
3) Then plug in usb. The phone should boot into download.
Third Method
1) You will need the samsung ADB drivers installed for your phone and ADB.
Samsung Drivers for 32 bit Windows: http://files.androidspin.com/downlo...=SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe
Samsung Drivers for 64 bit Windows: http://files.androidspin.com/downlo...ung/vibrant/&file=usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip
2) Remove sim card and sd-card. Remove the battery.
3) Hold buttons vol up, vol down, and power.
4) While holding down those 3 buttons put the battery back in and keep holding all 3 buttons until the vibrant disappears and reappears. Once it reappears, release all 3 buttons.
5) Now connect your phone to your pc via USB cable.
6) Open a cmd prompt and navigate to the folder with ADB and type "ADB REBOOT DOWNLOAD" caps are not necessary.
7) Your phone will reboot into the download screen.
Typos and other gibberish courtesy of Swype
Download the files in the linked thread and follow the directions there our the ones in my post.
Odin and Files Needed Available Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
1) Open Odin and verify that one of the Com ports shows a device connected. If it doesn't try using a different usb port.
2) Load the .pit and pda files. It should be pretty obvious how to do that once you are in Odin.
3) Make sure that the option to partition is unchecked. The other two options should be checked.
4) Hit start and wait.
5) Your phone will restart when Odin is done and you will be good to go.

Had that few days ago..please try this to access download mode...
I did the following:
1. take out the battery, sim and microSD
2. put battery in
3. ONLY hold vol down & power
4. plug in the USB and voila...download mode!

none of those options work to get into download mode, even via adb with reboot download it still shows a screen with a cell phone, a orange triangle and a pc as soon as it gets power.

Is your phone hardware locked?
no, not hardware locked. im niot sure what the screen means. its a cell phone then a orange triangle with exclamation point, then a pc. but it goes to that as soon as the power is turned on
Hold down both volume buttons and the power button. Wait until the screen turns black and release the power button. Welcome to download mode.
Edit: do all of this with the battery in, the phone connected to the computer, and Odin open. Once it goes into download mode, Odin should immediately recognize it.

So what you're saying is...you commited fraud. You are causing my costs on phones to go up. You knew the risks of flashing ROMs on your phone and when you screwed up instead of taking responsibility you give the bill to all the other T-mobile customers...
THANKS!!!
Typos and other gibberish courtesy of Swype
how is that fraud? i explained to the rep what happened and they offered a replacement. i dont see how that caused your cost to go up... thanks for your response tho...
Ignore him, dude has no idea what he is talking about.
I had the same problem though, don't worry.
What will happen is they will force the phone into download mode, using the same method the jig thing does, wipe the phone, and flash the default rom to it. From there, they will resell it depending on the physical condition of the phone. Of course if it suffered water damage a steep fee will need to be paid. If they find out you voided the warranty, hope you have the insurance package or again, a steep fee.

You explained that you voided the warranty by flashing an aftermarket ROM and when you screwed it up you called them because you want it replaced and they said no problem? Do you really expect me to believe that you told the rep the full truth?
The costs go up because they factor in the costs of replacement phones due to manufacturing defects. When people screw up their own phone and then get it replaced, the costs in the future go up.
Typos and other gibberish courtesy of Swype
That's what insurance is for, stolen, lost, broken, BRICKED, just pay your deductible... and bam.I wish t-mobile had vanishing deductible

This wasn't a defect. He just screwed something up. They'll flash stock rom on it and then bam, resell it. Why do you think they asked for it back, just to throw it against the wall?
exactly, they will load a rom onto it and resell it, nothing wrong with the phone just software. either way ive got insurance on it and they accepted it . thanks for the input tho!
Thanks a ton!!! I've been up til 4am last night trying to fix my friend's Vibrant do to boot loop and had no way of accessing internal memory. Even CWM wouldn't do wipe data/factory reset....
He used Root Tools to change font and crashed it and I've tried method after method (ODIN, adb etc...) but was stuck! Finally I got the phone to pc icon and tried THIS method and what do you know...restored to stock under 3 minutes.
Much appreciated

Ur on a phone hacking community site complaining about wht hundreds of people do on this site all the time. We flash roms and sometimes we make mistakes I admit some people shouldnt flash roms but we pay our insurance for a reason. I hope u werent serious or ur just a really good troll!

Bricked my phone -_-

I bricked my galaxy note i717 beyond recovery with a regular jig. I've looked into jtag but I haven't found any information whether it's viable for the i717 (i.e. which jtag it's using, which box I would need, where I would need to bring it etc etc.)
So here's my question: Do any of you guys know any more about how to unbrick the phone or details about whether/how to unbrick using jtag?
Maybe I've overlooked something else. Here's how it went down:
I was stupid and tried to flash the phone with firmware for the N7000 because I was overexcited and didn't know that it wasn't an n7000. Now the recovery mode wouldn't let me upgrade (understandable reasons I guess) so I decided to force flash it with odin which also didn't let me upgrade the phone. So I used some method relying on adb. The process took way to long so I unplugged the phone mid-way through it, then replugged it and suddenly the process reported success. So the phone started rebooting just that instead of actually booting up it stayed black. Pressing any of the buttons yields no response - neither vibration nor any screen response. Using the usb jig also yields no response but I'm not entirely sure if there's a jig method that might work - or a key combo that might work - or even a usb method that might work.
Anyway any advice would be highly appreciated.
Did you try return to the store where you boought it? If your phone don't show anything on the screen, there is no way store knows what's going on with your phone unless you tell them the truth
That's exactly what I would do

if you can get into download mode try reflashing the stock recovery found in the dev section then if you can get that fair try flashing the odin stock rom to see if it will boot

That's not guinea pig. He did couple wrong things in a row (wrong ROM, god know what he is doing with abd and then unplug the phone in the middle of flashing or something). If I'd make a guess, he screwed up the bootloader.

Hold down down volume button, home button and power button all at the same time. You don't know for sure until you try it.

I know on some phones that download mode can still be activated even if the screen isn't working properly and displaying it. I know many infuse users ran into problems and were still able to use Odin to flash stock and fix their phone. Try doing the hardware method of getting into download mode, and even though your screen doesn't show anything, it may still connect to Odin and you could try to flash back to stock.

U cant brick these phones.use the hardware buttons to get into download mode.
Take battery out and put it back in.hold power vol down and home for 20sec and then press vol up and plug into ur pc with odin running.u should see something on port section.
If that dont work.hold power and both vol. Buttons for 30 sec. Then press vol.up and plug in usb.hope it works.

Actually, you can brick it to the point of needing JTAG repairs to restore your device. That being said, it's very very very hard to brick it. You have to do something like flash firmware for a completely wrong device and screw up your bootloaders in the process.

I've read some so my suggestion is this:
First make sure that you have the drivers installed for your phone. Then pull the battery wait for a few seconds. press the down button and then the power to go in download mode and hold them pressed for 20s. Now plug in the USB and press the volume up button. If Odin detects it you're good to go! If not... Well it's worth a shot
My theory is that even though the screen is blank, the hardware still boots properly. Just make sure your battery is somewhat charged. And also plug in the USB AFTER you "boot" in download mode.

Why don't you find Adam_Outler in the hardware hacking forum? Send your phone to him and he'll hopefully be able to create an unbrickable mod. Not only will you likely have a fixed phone but it will mean volumes for our community.
Note, you will be without a phone for a bit
I did something stupid to my note too so don't feel too bad. **** happens... I returned my note to att with no problem because my screen was permanently black. It's not that, we've all made mistakes, but it's like this guy went out of his way to try to brick the phone. This isn't like "oh crap, I flashed the wrong radio"
He tried to flash a ROM from a different SoC and every fail-safe wouldn't let him do it. I'm surprised at how well the different programs tried to save his phone, then he actually went ADB and forced it onto his phone and then he unplugs during a flash.
It's like he drove his car without paying attention and hit a fence that prevents you from flying off a cliff, then he kept ramming his car into the fence, then took some C4, blew up the fence, drove off the cliff, then started yelling "help, I fell off the cliff"

Hey folks, sorry to bother you all but all input would be greatly appreciated. I'm rather unfamiliar with android flashing and kernels, and have spent the last 8 hours trying to figure this out to no avail.
Following this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070) (section 5) guide on how to get back to stock gingerbread on my phone (after a few partially failed attempts flashing other roms), I was using Odin, had the .pit 2.2 as well as CI500_VZW_EH03_GB_CM.tar.md5 loaded into the program and left it running. About 20 mins in, the phone stopped progressing and I started to get concerned. After two hours, I powered down the phone and proceeded to reattempt the flash. This is when things got weird. My phone was unable to enter the Download Mode and instead showed Android system recovery when plugged in, or a black screen with a phone and a computer, with arrows between when not plugged in. The weirdest part is that the phone no longer recognized vol+ or the power button when in Android Recovery, and could only vol- to go down the menu, then was stuck at the bottom of the list.
I've searched everywhere on this site, and google to try and come up with a solution.
When pluggin into the computer, I hear a connection sound, but the device is not recognized by Odin. Pressing the running a blind vol+ and vol-, then a vol- to hope Odin recognizes the device, as pointed out in this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764022) thread, resulted in nothing. Holding vol- while pluggin in the usb cable, doesn't show the download mode. All of the steps in this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026746) thread proved futile, as most of them required download mode anyways.
I'm going to keep searching and keep you posted as things come. Your help as always will be greatly appreciated!
Edit: Things just got weirder... After a few more attempts at making this work, I'm now getting an "Unable to charge non-supported battery. See user manual." With this error, I'm not able to get into Android Recovery anymore. More searching...
Edit 2: AFAIK I'm gonna need a jig. Anyone confirm?
Edit 3: Got a jig, Download Mode working, all is well. Please remove this thread, or leave it for other noob flashers to see.
Hey Folks, its been a while since I last posted in this forum, but I ran into a pretty serious issue earlier this evening. I was attempting to flash CM9 to my T959D and was running into tonnes of trouble. Throughout my attempts I was restoring back to stock rom, kernel and bootloader. During one of these restores, Odin froze in Win 7. Since then I've been unable to detect any form of life from the phone. It simply sits in a black screen. Holding the vol down while booting, blind vol up and down cable inserting, using my Jig and inserting the cable/battery in various orders results in nothing. The most I hear is a device failure to connect sound in Windows with no sign of life in Odin.
What can I do?
Someone posted stating leaving the battery out for multiple days would reset something on the motherboard, allowing me to get into download mode. Though I was hoping to have this resolved tonight. I realize that there aren't many people left with these phones, but I hope someone has a solution to this.
I'm going to be installing ubuntu tonight on an older desktop in a effort to resolve this. Though my experience with it is very limited, and success is unknown.
NOT GOOD... You should wait and see if others have a better solution, but Unbrickable Mod may be your only option.

Thats not good to hear. Well, I was snooping around looking for someone who could solder this for me, to no avail. My soldering skills are non existent. The most I fixed was a door bell, and I did a terrible job. I won't be able to get my hands on a soldering iron until tomorrow, is it worth trying?
I have located someone who can do a jtag on this model but have a few questions in regards to this:
Since my bootloader was corrupted, would the jtag service put a new bootloader on?
Would it prevent the same thing from happening again?
Are jtags designed on a per-phone basis?
Since there is a telus fascinate T959D as well as a verizon fascinate, and both phones are completely different, would I need to make sure the jtag is meant for this phone?
Is there anything I need to be made aware of before doing this that I haven't mentioned?
I've haven't had any experience with JTAG, but I've heard Unbrickable Mod is preferable. If you're looking for someone who can solder, check out your local RC/hobby store. If that fails, check out an electronics store, though it may take some searching to find one.

Hey no offence but stop telling everyone on the street they need too soljeir there phone with unbrickable mod before they can fix I'm tired of having too calm the person down after you said they have too open up the phone its utter bull****. 1 out of 10 soft bricks you may need it I've been without download mode and fixed mine just fine.

An update:
Took my phone in to get the jtag service... He said some of my partitions were corrupted, one of which was the boot layer. He put a new bootloader on, and showed it could be placed back into recovery and download mode, but when I got home the device was even more dead than when I left; no device failed to connect sound in windows, just nothing. I'm taking it back to him in a week after exams to get this resolved. Maybe the battery has reached the end of its life...? I checked it with a volt meter, and it had 3v+ so I really don't know.

As bbrad pointed out, there may be other solutions, and my answer could be totally wrong, but if even your bootloader is cooked, Unbrickable Mod may be your only hope. Since UM affects startup code literally hardwired into the chip, it should work as long as the JTAG doesn't interfere.

Another update. So apparently I flashed a bootloader from another phone, which royally screwed up the partition, kernel and mounted drives. The technician managed to get the original bootloader, kernel and rom on the phone and everything is working from stock again.
Why on earth is the 959d Telus version such a pain in the ass to customize?
Is there anyone on here that uses a 959d that can direct me to a proper method to leaving stock? Before this entire situation I had vodoo kernel on, with cwm, but every time I flashed a kernel it would hang on reboot and either sit on a black or white screen. In a lot of cases I would flash in cwm, reboot, then I would be brought back to cwm as if there was no rom on the phone at all, no matter what I formatted and wiped.
When I'm not on my phone I can link all of the guides I've tried that leave me back where I started. So I re flash back to stock using Odin.
At the end of the day, I have to ask, is it really worth it in the end? I've rooted and flashed many roms on other phones but have never run into as many problems as with this fascinate t959d

[Q] Need to get into recovery but my power button is broken.

Hey everyone, I have been going through these forums as well as giving google a full shakedown of what it has to offer and it seems I can only find problems that are "partially" similar to mine. Anyway here is the nitty gritty;
I was running the Super Nexus I777 rom for my AT&T SGS2 (the SGH-I777) when this morning my power button quit working. I could not lock or unlock the screen without either pulling the battery and putting it back in and waiting for it to boot back up, or plugging it into a charger. I found a couple apps on the market that allowed me to circumvent the process by unlocking the phone with the volume keys. After work when I got home I contacted AT&T to check on my warranty (because at this point I had decided I was going to flash back to stock and send in for a new/refurbished but working phone). Warranty was still good so after the call was ended I hopped on the forums here and followed the procedure on how to prepare your phone for returning to the store for warranty. Here is where the problems really began. I downloaded the correct stock files and flashed the phone back to stock with no issues. I boot up the phone and start getting "google services has stopped unexpectedly" and other errors which will not allow me to get past the "touch the android to begin" start up screen. I have tried the tap the four corners method but it is not working for me. I have tried using "adb" and "fastboot" to get into recovery and that has not worked.
The problem lies in the fact that my power button no longer works. So I have spent hours scouring the internet and these forums in the hopes of finding some other way to get into the stock recovery mode.
From what I have read, the processes that are stopping and force closing which are keeping me from moving past the startup screen, are because I need to wipe my Dalvik and regular Cache. I would be very happy to do that and have at least a semi working phone again for the week or so I am going to have to wait before my replacement comes in.
Sorry for the long post (especially considering this is my first post here on XDA), but I don't know where else to turn. I hope I have provided enough information about what I have already tried so that the whole process of elimination can be made shorter for myself and anyone else who feels like helping me out. Thanks for taking the time to read this post and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try using adb to reboot into recovery, but then you won't be able to select anything because you won't have touch CWM.

Go into Samsung Kies, on the menu go to Tools --> Firmware Upgrade & Initialization and enter the model (SGH-I777) and then enter your serial number from the battery compartment when prompted and follow the instructions to restore phone to factory settings. That's what I did when I got my phone replaced under warranty due to the broken power button.

U can do that sure. But I dont think that wipes the data or cache, which is really what he needs to do to stop his problems. Then again I don't remember if upgrading in that manner wipes anything or not. I'm pretty sure not. But it's been a few months since I've messed with it.

Yea, it's been a few months for me as well, but I believe it does a complete reset to factory settings (wipe included). It should download the latest Samsung ROM (ICS) automatically as well. I think the process also kicks you into download mode automatically and starts installing the firmware...a little fuzzy on that part.
THANKS
I cannot begin to thank you all enough! Going through Keis and putting in my model and serial info did the trick! So with all the sincerity I can muster, thank you all for being so helpful and quick in your responses. Now I can send it back when I get my replacement and have the piece of mind that the only thing wrong with the phone now is that the power button is broke.

Paranoid Android in the ported section is a fantastic rom and allows to wake the screen by just swiping it. So unlocking amounts to two swipes left to right.
Rebooting into recovery isn't difficult either. You can add a recovery reboot button to the drop down notification drawer.

Many roms can do that/all roms really. Siyah kernel enables swipe2wake

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant SGH-T959 stuck at PC-exclamationMark-MobilePhone icon

Alright. let us get this straight. I have searched in countless number of forums for solving my issue but I'm NOT able to fix it.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant T959. It currently seems to be "soft-bricked" (I always see a mobile connected to a computer and an exclamation icon in between). So to reset it, I have left almost not stone unturned. But no luck so far
As far as I remember, I happened to land it in trouble while I was trying to flash some secondary bootloader using ODIN.
I also tried the micro-USB JIG method by building a 300k-Ohm USB JIG on my own (using three 100k-Ohm resistors), but even that is not working for me. Whenever I connect my phone to my computer, it starts up and shows those three icons. The same happens when I remove the battery, insert it back and start the phone up again. The same happens for each of the numerous key sequences mentioned online for download/recovery mode. So literally NOTHING is working for me. I also tried OneClick.jar, Heimdall. None of them are making me lucky as the phone is not getting detected.
I believe there has to be a way to reset it somehow (although I seem to have screwed something seriously) but nothing seems to work for me. What can I possibly do now?
Attached images show the micro-USB jig that I made and the icon on my phone I see.
From my experience if you can get that far you don't need a jtag. But you did say that you flash bootloader. So you ether need to get the right combo to get to download mode or you are done with out working bootloader. The only other thing that I can think of would be to do the unbrickable mod.

Thanks jrongi1 for the reply.
>> So you ether need to get the right combo to get to download mode or you are done with out working bootloader.
I have tried many, many combos for getting the download mode but no luck so far Can you suggest some if you are aware of one?
The only other thing that I can think of would be to do the unbrickable mod.
>> I tried to know about this but I did not understand what this exactly means? I believe this involves some sort of hardware rework. Can you please point me to steps to do this? Are you referring to this procedure? If yes, I don't believe it's a solution since that procedure is just a preventive measure and not a solution (that's what I understand after reading that whole thing out).
Try that.
reboot computer, turn off phone, take out battery, put the battery back, hold volume up and down buttons and then plug in usb.

"SOFT" BRICKED WHILE USING ODIN?
If you are getting a "Phone.. ! ..Computer" image (seen above) when booting phone, yes, you are bricked but it is reversible! Just follow these steps...
Make sure you have ODIN OPEN with admin privileges!
1.) Take off your back cover, remove your sim & mirco sd card.
2.) Remove your battery.
Make sure you have the USB plugged into your PC but NOT your phone!
3.) Hold the volume buttons.
4.) Put the battery in.
5.) Put the USB in.
You don't necessarily need the download mode image to be present. As long as you are getting the COM ID to light up yellow in ODIN, just flash back to stock like normal.

Sometimes the key combo can be a bit precarious and the timing needs to be precise. I know that when I have taken my Vibes back to stock, it takes me more than a few tries to get it right. You've said you have tried the key combos several time, I think you should keep trying them and get your timing right. I would hate for you to screw up your phone when doing the Unbrickable hardware mod, when it could be something as simple as a timing thing.
As the other guys said work with the buttons and only try the unbrickable mod as a last resort.

Thanks guys for responses.
testomat/Woody, I tried as per your steps almost 8-10 times, but that does not work either
jrongi1,
I do not wish to go for Unbrickable mod either. Anyway, I have contacted a local repairs guy for this issue. He said he can fix this issue using JTAG interface. That costs me 1500INR. That's the only solution I have I guess.
Good luck with the repair I hope that you can get going soon.
