Which one is the best? (There's a twist to this question - read inside) :) - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
To be honest, I haven't been reading the rules recently but I realized from one other topic that asking for ROM recommendation here is the forbidden thing...
Therefore, dear moderator and/or admin, before you pull the trigger and delete or lock this topic, please read this post till the end. Who knows, maybe it survives...
Having in mind that P7500 and P7510 had very limited official distribution of ICS for some reason, majority of users of Tab 10.1 are still at Honeycomb (yours truly as well).
I have definitely decided to make a move and do something about that but I need a bit of a help. A guidance, clarification and simplification of what are my choices.
Is it possible to make a kind of overview of the current Android versions offer for this specific tablet? What I'm aiming at is the short summary of which functions/features are buggy/unavailable under which Android versions. So, I am not asking for recommendation of the particular ROMs, but the version of Android I should pursue.
To summarize: Could you help me select the appropriate version of Android (v4, v4.1 or v4.2) for Tab 10.1 by pointing out what does not work (properly) in them?
Thank you very much for helping!
Bye!

We hear you.I will not delete it or lock it.
But hey look how the... we are moving as we speak incredible

I'm researching this exact question for a frend who just recieved one of these tablets. I'd definitely be interested in seeing something like this. (Actually, it'd be awesome to see a comparo/feature list for Roms for all the individual devices here on xda)

I ABSOLUTELY hate it when developers writes "You tell me" in the Bugs section of the first post of ROM threads. The only way to know if the ROM suitable for me is to try it out, and this is hard for some people who are always pretty busy in their lives. Of course, you can read the posts to find out the bugs, but sometimes that doesn't help much. It would be much easier if the developers just list the bugs in current version of the ROM (these are often told by users), and update the post when the bugs fixed.

Suggest a suitable ROM
Suggest a suitable ROMs, that are available for my TAB 10.1 (WiFi + GSM) in 4.1.1 / 4.1.2/ .......
I really do not understand the abbrv... P4, P4wifi, p4tmo, p4vzw, only for GSM or only for wifi
Now I am using "JellyBeanRom ICS v7 + A1 Kernel V1.8.3 + Voice Call Enable Stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM Build 1
Thank you for allowing us to ask such questions

p4 = WiFi + 3G (some call it the international release / global release version of Tab 10.1) aka P7500
p4wifi = WiFi only version aka P7510
p4tmo = T-Mobile version
p4vzw = Verizon Wireless version
Suitable ROMs depends on u mainly... I am using the same ROM as what u are using right now.

I hate that too...but sometimes, not everyone face the same problems/bugs. Not everyone have bugs. Some may have the bug that u have, some may not be having it. Unless the devs themsleves are facing it then it'll be listed. If not, then it should be fixed. But, if u are facing any bugs even when in the OP says there is no bugs, just ask for assistance then. Hence. the "You Tell Me" statement in the bugs section. :good:

WRONG WRONG WRONG .

seriously I always wonder about the right answer even I read the original post of the difference, I am not very good in english maybe thats why I didn't fully undertand the main difference, but I guess the below:
Original android: after sometime the ROM is being stable so it goes to that forum
Android: still under development and not proved to be usable as stable version
NOTE: I am not sure at all, and please if any one knows the right answer to confirm it ... we are not all good english speakers
In all honesty, why does it matter ? It's not important. However...Original Android development is exactly that, a forum for stuff that is original. Whereas Android development has pretty much 'everything else' development-wise & stuff that is often based on/contains parts of someone else's work.
I still don't get why knowing this is so important to you ? Besides, if you'd read & followed the link you were given (which lead to other links and an eventual answer), you would have got the answer I just gave you.

I must be stupid but...
If we look at Original ROM index we've got Sammy, AOKP & AOSP based ROMs for both ICS & GB.
If we then take a look at Android ROM index we have Sammy, AOKP, AOSP & MIUI ROMs, also for ICS & GB.. and a new one for JB
Plus custom kernels in both sections aswell.
If by original we're talking about pure original as in not a modified/port of an already existing ROM then shouldn't it only be official Cyanogen, Kang, MIUI ROMS and maybe official Sammy releases in Original section?

[Q] Another Phone's ICS ROM (Tegra 2)

Dear Gods and Mortals,
I've just joined XDA a few minutes ago, and am about to post for the very first time.. Please be gentle to a certified n00b..
Anyway, I've learned a lot reading articles here in XDA, and I think it's time I give back, and hope my 3 cents worth would be of any help..
I'm using an Atrix MB861, and just like you guys, am frustrated with Motorola for not sharing ice cream with us..
I have also read that the ICS ROMs of Samsung Galaxy R i9103 and LG Optimus 2x are not useful in the effort of improving ICS and JB efforts for the Atrix.
After sifting through some Chinese websites, I've come across ZTE U970 (Mimosa, Grand), which may have similar specs with the Atrix. Maybe some dev can try disassembling it for some usable kernels or whatchoo-choos.
They have posted on their website a JB/ICS ROM update. (Sorry, as a n00b cannot post links)
So, is it of any use? I really someone checks it out whether it's legit.
Thank you for your time and for bearing with a n00b post.:silly:
doqmyk
PS: presently using epinter's (THANK YOU:good CM10.1.. fast, stable, very usable.. just no mic and poor cam.
PS2: Also, can anyone tell me how to click the so-called "ThankYou" button? I use IE10 and FF Beta, but I see no "Thank You button"..
This has already been discussed, the only kernel that passed the tests to run on the Atrix was the kernel of the Galaxy R that is currently being ported by our devs.
Hi,
I have localy almost all tegra2 devices kernels. Also ZTE Grand's one. I'm using them as reference. ZTE uses same method of lcd panel init, LG has similar method of tegrapart use (mmc partition offset), Xooms has similar (older) PMU. Each one is helpful, yet none is compatible enough to be used on it's own. Since getting JTAG uart we can work on any kernel, so galaxy/xoom only kernel is no longer valid (just for clarification).
If you check the website download, they have the NEW TEST ROM 4.1 JB version. As I reviewed the old XDA posts, it only points to the old 4.0 stock ROM with 2.6 kernel, NOT the new Test ROM.
Maybe we can download the NEW 4.1 ROM and see if we can analyze it for stuff we can use or modify, as Atrix and U970 comes from the same AP20/AP25 Tegra2 Family. Who knows, they might have a working 3.x kernel on their NEW test ROM..
Still hoping ang believing...
Reading the much older posts (Aug 2012), many (readers, not the Devs) seem to shoot down the idea of using the built-in drivers in these ROMS without actually trying to crack or use it first.. Better try NOW, as Moto ICS upgrade is a dream. Now, because it's a matter of principle. Now, because the longer the time, the more new powerful cheaper phones arrive to distract us away from our principles..:crying:
Anyway, enough of the yada-yada. If anyone is interested in the latest Jelly Bean ROM of U970 (Nov 29 2012), and the latest updated ICS ROM of Hisense T96 (Sept 2012), here they are:

[Q] [q] Best version for mediapad 30x

Hi everyone, after seeing a mammoth 6 to 8 new downloads, can anyone give the best advice and experience:
1. Which is their favourite
2. What does not work in 1 above
3. In the most recent versions bluetooth does not work, can we therefore save the relevant libs-etc-files from a working version, and replace them
4. Does anyone still have the old HWMOD overclocked version, to use as base before trying 1 above
5, Although this has been asked before, how can we repartion the ex SDCard successfully on 301.
Unfortunately I cant post on the developer threads, but I do assure you I have read all of them - approx 750 threads including androidiani.
Many thanks and kind regards to all, and moreso to those who can clarify the above!!!!
:highfive:
To add more to the only debate on this issue, Q_ and A.
Ok We have around 201309 10.1 or 10.2 around the same date the CM version , there is a KitKat release and AOKP.
Saw the thread with a lot of replies concerning the CM 10.1 release and " who likes it". B.T. working, HDMI issues etc etc.
However , given that many , posters seemed to appreciate the 10.1 version , nearly all could not post on the developer thread due to min 10 posting restriction.
So here I am again, asking , which of the original ROM´s, and new ICS, JB or KK versions are the most appropriate for this Mediapad 301 as far as anyone has experience.
The last entry on After_Silence V 10.1 General thread, seems to suggest that CM10.1 201309 is probably the best bet so far, however the KitKat or CM10.2 OR Evervolv, may have evolved since then, anyone any ideas.
Furthermore , given that CM10.1 offers /data/media does this mean I can actually use my Ext. sdcard, instead of filling my measly 5GB sdcard
Any help most appreciated, including any other tips on other versions specific to the Mediapad 301xxx

D803 Rom "porting" requests, please write them here!

Mods, if this is in the wrong section, please move it.
*sorry for the bad english*
Alright, the purpose of this thread is simple. I made this with the intention of uniting all of the d803 users, and give them the opportunity to post a request for a rom they would like to see on their d803's that is available for other variants such as the d802. At the moment, I've found a way to "port" only d802 roms to the d803, and by port I mean making some slight changes that allow the rom to boot in our devices without any or with the least issues possible. These two devices are very similar hardware-wise, so software wise it doesnt change much.
If there's any D802 rom that you would like to see on our D803, feel free to leave a reply and I will do my best to move my gears and upload it so you guys can have it! As we all know, the development scene for the Canadian variant isnt as active as the d801 or D802, and with this I aim to end that barrier by trying to make those roms available to our device
Too long didnt read version:
If the rom exists for the D802, post a reply and I will try to make it available for the D803
Disclaimer:
I am in no way a developer, I simply edit files and put them in the right place so it boots for us. I do this to help fellow d803 users.
If I helped with a file, always make a nandroid backup just in case things go haywire. Anything that happens to your phone is your responsibility.
Everything I submit gets tested rigorously on my own G2 before being posted to ensure its working, but we all get different results, so the experience might vary. Just a heads up.

To port any ROM to any version just download your devices patch from dr87's Mahdi ROM thread then all u gotta do is change out the boot IMG, a few lines in the build prop n updater script then flash ROM, gapps, the patch then your good. We had a similar patch for toro on the gnex forum and I was waiting for the day someone put one together for us seeing as all g2's use the same mainboard. The days of worrying about whether your variant will get support is finally over, for aosp Roms at least. I'm gonna try doing it w a stock ROM to see if that works cuz that's something I'd really love to see. Cuz as a vs980 owner I can say from experience that our stock ROM development is lacking compared to the d802 or f320

Well I meant it more in a way for those who don't understand much about editing the updater script and exchanging the boot.IMG. with what I'm offering all they have to do is ask the ROM and I'll post it online with said changes in case they don't know how to do it. Something like a small favor for everyone, but thanks for the reply!

If you could please port this rom I would very much appreciate it

Could you possibly make a quick tutorial on how to do this? or possibly direct me to where i could find one?
Hi, I was looking at your old thread about how you could port d802 roms to d803. I was wondering if you could port cyanogenmod 11 snapshot m12. http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=d802 i would really appreciate it. and it seems like u are good at what u do so you should maybe consider building for d803 for cyanogenmod. thousands of d803 users have been waiting for cyanogenmod support but to this day have recieved none. anyways if u could port it i would really appreciate it! thanks!

PLZ !

Looking for an Alpha Lollipop build for the G2? Look no further!

"The G2 Dream Team" (and they well deserve that name) has released not one, but TWO lollipop builds for the LG G2. Both ROMs are based on the same build tree, but one ROM is CM12 and the other is a LiquidSmooth 4.0 ROM. Despite being built from the same build tree, they carry different features. They are stable and usable for daily drivers, but they may carry some bugs, like a non-functional video playback, NFC issues for LS/VS980 but it should all be sorted out in the near future. Head over to the threads to read more!:

Older posts:
An increasing amount of devices have been receiving unofficial Android Lollipop 5.0 ports, like the HTC One M8 and the LG Optimus L9. Today another device can be added to the list of phones receiving a treatment with the taste of Android Lollipop, the LG G2. While there generally has been a wide contribution from the community; testing, sharing files and giving ideas, two XDA members stood out in particular in order to create the build, @ylukasy and @InfinitusDesigner. The port is still in a very early pre-alpha stage, and the bugs are barely known yet, but the ROM boots and has even been rooted! While it might be wisest to wait until an official thread has been made before grabbing your devices and start flashing, @ylukasy has already provided a download link for the ROM, and calls for people to help discover the bugs so that they can be eliminated. Please notice that the ROM might not be stable enough to be used as a daily driver, but owners of a LG G2 are officially an important step closer to having a stable Lollipop ROM!
If this post caught your interest and you're willing to take the risk, head over to the last pages in the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/unofficial-cm12-nexus-5-posted-t2936398
As previously mentioned, a lot of things are not sorted out yet, and the build might not be for your device number, so make sure you read the entire thread before continuing, or simply wait untill an official thread is made.
Update:
An official thread has been posted and it can be found by following this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/rom-android-lollipop-fast-clean-t2941922
The build is a port of the Nexus 5 ROM, and users of the ROM have been saying that the rom is very fast and fluid, calls work, camera works (although the quality is inferior), but other users have been reporting random reboots and incompatibilities with certain apps such as YouTube or WhatsApp.

This post will be updated regularly when new information regarding Lollipop ports surface.
Fantastic News! Will get round to trying it shortly, thanks for the link!
While I have my doubts about it being functional (or even booting) on my LS980, I'll give it a shot and see what happens.
Nice to see things moving at breakneck speeds these days.
On a side note, I just read the AnandTech review of the Nexus 6 and am happy to report that my well over a year old G2 beats it in several benchmarks so I'm pretty satisfied at the moment, especially considering I got it for free. I mean really...
In before "no build for xxxx?!?!?!?"
Anyone know how to port a d802 rom to d800?
Ready to try it out and see what happened..??
his build is from the same source the other was he doesn't deserve credit for it. it's using cm12 kernel and dev claims it's using nexus 5 port yet requires gapps and no signs of any nexus 5 code at all.
Wouldn't it be alot easier to just post the download link here?

Updating this thread later today if nothing gets in the way.
Hi everybody!!
I need a tester please:
I built pure AOSP for the D802 from sources of Android right now, has anybody time to test it?
It is an experimental build and I didn't test it right now, so I don't know if it is working, please make a backup from your current rom.
The build comes with an built in CWM recovery and should be with root access. It can be flashed with the same instructions like the CM 12 build.
Edit: Bootloop right now ... Anybody, can you take a logcat?

Thank you in advance!! Please anybody who tries it: can you send me a pm?

Yes sure, but right now, I have to solve the bug, that the d802 wouldnt boot, so this may take some more time until I build it for other devices too.
