Memory question and others - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hi, yesterday I bought the Galaxy Player 3.6 8GB. Now when I look at my available memory it's far from 8GB, so I have 4.73GB internal memory and Internal device storage I have 1.86GB. Already rooted so have delete some of the stock apps but every app I removed just gave me more internal device storage and I would rather have it as internal memory storage of course, Is there any way to do this?
My other question is that there is a lot of apps installed that are actually phone apps (dialer, etc) would this give problems if I remove these seeing as I will never use it to make phone calls.
Thanks in advance

That is on all devices..i have nexus 16 gb and 13 gb free..rest is system files.

There is a 2GB /data partition (where apps are) and a 5GB /sdcard partition (where your files are). You cannot combine them.

So if I install apps they will go into the data partition and not in the sdcard partition or is the data partition only for the stock apps?

I already know that, but on other device, you can get your sd card reconize as internal storage with script or modification.
So you get a bigger storage, that what we need

Stock apps are on /system. Apps from the market go in /data, unless you move them to the external SD, and then they will go there.

Assuming you are on CM10:
If you're looking in .android_secure, that is the app itself, and that bug is fixed with the latest kernel (uploading now).
Otherwise, you are looking at game data. To move that to external, uncomment the "switchablepair" line in build.prop and reboot. Note that any data in /storage/sdcard0/Android/data (mostly app cache) will not be moved, so you need to either copy it over before rebooting, or let it redownload.
For non-cm10 roms, all of the above applies except the bug and the exact line in build.prop. For example, some ROMs always have it uncommented, but have a line saying "ro.vold.switchexternal=0". In that case, change it to 1 to switch them.

am not sure what is CM10. If you are referring to the screen which comes up when we start the player using Power-up+volume+home button, then there I see this CMW-based Recovery V5.0.2.7. I'm posting on your ROM thread because I've some confusion on how to install your rom

for build.prop, i'm using this guide on how to access it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...ds-cse&usg=AFQjCNEe0O89F81Y5NpJ5mXVf7b4DRDO-g).
playing with this file seems a little dangerous. I'm using the following kernel and ROM.
[Kernel][JB][YP-G70] Mercurius v2
[ROM][YP-G70][JB]PARANOID ANDROID v2.57
I see the following in the build.prob. Is that ok, or do I've to change something?
Code:
You can tweak the next 4 properties

[APP] Root All to SD

Has anyone tried this app for Data2SD?
I stumbled upon this app while taking a stroll in the Market. And wanted to share it with y'all.
And, NO, I am not the dev of the app.
☞ The Dev is WindowsNT. ★
I would've tried it myself, but I already have Data2SD on my phone. It might help those who need Data2SD.

I 'd be happy to answer any questions. The app simply creates and formats a storage in the SD, then links data from apps to that partition.

Does it do all this automatically.. I mean is there any special script or kernel required..?
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA Premium App
1. You first use the "storage" menu to create a storage file (default 500MB) to be used as a partition. This partition is then automatically formatted to ext2 and mounted on the device startup.
2. From the "apps" menu you select an application and you have a list of the movable files.
3. You move/restore the files you wish.
Of course, don't do it for applications that start on boot, because the storage won't be mounted until the sd card is visible.

Is this only for 2.2 or can it be used for 2.1?
It can be used with 2.1 as it doesn't move the app itself (as the 2.2 system does), it moves the internal data in /data/data/<package>.
(requires root).
Glad to see the Dev himself here.
Hope many people benefit from this App.

Hell mate. I tried this with 500mb.
It stuck at 25mb which is like 5%
Then i formatted my sd card and tried with 50mb and again it stuck at 25mb.
Why is this problem occuring ? Also i have a 16gb sdhc which is class2
Hm, perhaps a problem with your SD card ?
Try this from shell:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/sdcard/rallsd/storage bs=1024 count=102400 (for 100MB).
this is similar to the command used by my app. If it also stucks, then it seems that there's an error with your SD card (chkdsk ?)
If it works, notify me and I 'll take a look.

Heh, reply to self, but I managed to work around the initial problem by simply deleting off the storage file, and creating a smaller (128mb) one
hi, i have 2 questions before ill give it a try.
is the app able to allocate free space from the sd card to create the partition
or do i have to wipe the sd completely before ?
will the app interfere in any way with already installed and normal moved apps ?
thanx in advanced, stavro
Doesn't work on my Archos 7ob eReader (Eclair 2.1). Once the second part created by Root All to SD, it doesn't recognize its job ! Worse, Windows can't at all read the SD Card.

Three questions
I have three questions:
1) How can I reduce size of allocated memory space (I have mount 2 GB but now I see that is to much for my needs)
2) What happens with files that are on mounted partition if I uninstall Root all to SD app? How can I move it back to the original place?
Thanks in advance!

[Guide] REAL guide for FULL Apps2SD using Clockwork. [UPDT 9.28.2012]

This guide is bullet proof. It will not damage your phone in any way or make it run any risks as long as you follow step by step.
What you'll need:
Any Android phone with CWM5 installed
For S2E - A CyanogenMod rom running on your phone. (Doesn't matter if a custom rom based on CM7 or CM7 itself. If S2E doesn't work, contact your rom's developer.)
Step by Step Guide
This part of the guide can be used simply to just make a partition on your SD. You don't have to use S2E which is completely optional. You can use any other app that fits your needs.
Backup your SD card data to PC before start partitioning.
Power on your phone
Hold the Home and Power button
Use volume down button to go down to ‘advanced’.
Then press home button
Select ‘Partition SD Card’.
Select the ext size that you want (128M, 256M, 512M, 1024M, 2048M or 4096M). (I use 256MB)
Select 0M as the Swap Size.
Copy back your data to SD card.
That’s all
Next;
For S2E
Go to CM settings and check 'Application moving'
Install S2E
Check the'Applications' box
Check the 'Dalvic Cache' box
Reboot your phone
For INT2EXT+ (For CM10.1 check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37939052&postcount=1121)
Download from the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
Place it on the root of the SD
Make sure you delete ANY A2SD you have in your init.d folder.
Boot up CWM5
Mount system and data
Look for it and flash it (In "Install zip from SD")
Format SD EXT (In mounts and storage)
Reboot your phone
For Amarullz
Download the file attached to the first post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310309
Delete any A2SD scripts you might already have on your phone in the init.d folder
Extract the zip and put the script in the init.d folder
Change permissions to rw-r-r or to rwxrwxrwx if the first one doesn't work for you.
Reboot
I DO NOT USE LINK2SD OR RECOMMEND IT EITHER SO DON'T ASK.
When you reboot, it will take some time because of the Dalvic cache being moved to the SD card. When you install something, it will be installed automatically in the SD card, resulting in a completely empty internal storage.
NOTE FOR S2E: Some widgets or applications that have widgets, don't work while installed in the SD card. Those must be moved to the internal storage. The same thing applies to any themes you're using, launcher, camera apps, or anything else you believe should be installed internally.
NOTE 2: Please also keep in mind that when you reboot your phone (or turn it on) anything installed in the SD won't work until the phone is done scanning the SD card and confirms the item is installed.
NOTE 3: To delete the partition, you'll have to format the whole SD card. For that you have to use the Android Settings>Storage>Format SD. Any other way and the partition WILL NOT be erased. Make sure you back up before doing this.
S2E and AMARULLZ work with CM BASED ROMS ONLY but INT2EXT is UNIVERSAL.
You can try DarkTremor's script which is the same thing basically but I don't really know how to set it up so you'll have to find your own guide. And Links2SD doesn't free up that much memory but at least its something.
Please read this post carefully before asking any questions. I will ignore EVERY QUESTION who's answer is on this post.
Thanks to DavySML125 for the CM10.1 tip.
Fun fact: I use my own guide every time I flash a new rom

Depends on how much memory you think you'll consume. I'd still say go for 1GB. I have 100+ apps installed and I haven't even used half that GB. I'm using a 8GB class 4 or 6 (I forgot) and I'm thinking of lowering it to 500MB.

You can't just move files/dirs like that. You have to set up symlinks too.
If you don't know how to do that, it might be best if you don't mess around anymore.

which rom you use?
In CM (and CM based) roms you can change the storages so that you will be able to use the internal storage as the app storage. notice that it will change the storage settings for all the other apps (For example, the camera storage location will be in the internal instead of the SD card)

Store/install the Games/apps files on the larger part of the memory (IE. SD Card) and have them run from that location.
I know the system apps can't be moved but almost any game or app can be.
I was once able to move them freely but I screwed up my phone and ended up whipping it and starting from scratch. :crying:

Dude... The whole purpose of people moving apps from internal phone storage to an SD Card is to free up space on the internal storage... by moving them to an EXTERNAL SD card (ie removable)
Since these phones don't have an external SD, all you're doing is moving your apps from internal storage to (drum roll please...) Internal Storage!!!
So basically... you're moving an app from the "Program Folders" area to... well... anywhere BUT that folder, but keeping it on the same hard drive. Make sense?

Apparently I am not getting my point across this is the HTC One X+ section right...
There are two sections on the solid state "hard drive" one is referred to as the SD Card which is allocated 50+ gigs the other section is system storage which is only allocated 2+/- Gigs.
Now I want games/apps to install to the SD card section not the system section which it dose by default.
I know this can be done as I mentioned previously I had it configured to do this but I can't remember how nor can I find anything (apps/tutorials) that will get me back to said configuration.
I hope this is a bit clearer.

No mate it doesn't. Unless your rooted you don't even have write access to /system/.
All apps and data will go on the /data/ partition. The "mock" SD card is located in /data/media/ or /data/media/0 which is just a folder on the main /data/ partition.

Sounds like you've done something to your internal storage. Try wiping /cache/

Try going to /data/apps/ and checking if you will find white files that end with .odex
Apps that have that will most probably be the ones affected by that error. The .odex file is created if you have "lucky patcher" installed . If you do not have this app or haven't found any odex files then ignore what I just said.
ANY apps literally ANY apps? Going to Settings > Storage , are you sure its not filled?

Try to wipe all including the data and do factory reset. You are using TWRP right? then goto advance sideload and then adb sideload the rom which u want ... from command prompt.. what you are saying is really not possible....may be you did mess up ur partition since we dont have any physical SD card slot there is just plain 64GB of which 51~55 is usable....Goodluck

I removed the two odex files I found but yet again it made no difference.
I have over 50gigs of free space.
When I screwd up my phone I did a factory wipe and even relocked then unlocked the boot loader literally started from scratch so there should be no issues.

If you asked me its a faulty rom that have no management over app installation. If its a stock rom then yeah factory reset is required.. But its a strange issue nontheless. So its fixed now when doing factory wipe?

I have not done a factory wipe and that is my last resort I had this issue before but I managed to find a fix for it.

when I did the wipe I cleared everything and went back to the Tellus stock RUU (lost all my pictures in the processes dam dropbox) and started over from there.
the first time I changed to the ViperXL+ OS I had the same issue unfortunately I can't remember how I managed to fix it I thought I used Rom Toolbox to set where apps/games installed by default but it says I have to be updated to 2.2+ and I'm only on 2.0.0
So I'm feeling like quit the Dumb A$$ I figured it out after my last post all I had to do in Rom Toolbox is change it from SD card as primary to internal storage as primary and now I can update/Install more apps
Thanks for the help

[Apps2sd] Linked apps 'break' on reboot

- I have a rooted Asus ZenFone 5 on 5.0
- I partitioned my sd, 2nd partition is ext2
- I successfully linked apps using the app Apps2sd
The problem:
- On reboot, the apps don't work.
- This is because the obb link of the app is shown to be broken(in app details, the link picture of obb is shown to be 'cut').
- Soft reboot doesn't solve it, nor does recreating mount scripts.
Only thing I could do is link the app again, and it works, but on reboot, the same problem comes up again.
How do I fix this?
You can't. Those files were never meant to be in external storage. This is due to the way android loads the memory.
Only option is to update to an os that adaptable storage.

So will this work(linking and not breaking) with apps that are naturally movable to sd card(i.e. moveable to sd from Android settings)?
And what OS could I get to change that? Cyanogen? RR?

Not really. Apps are really not made for sdcards. As for the OS you will need something that uses 6.0 as a base.
So marshmallow allows apps into sd? No problem with linking and rebooting?

It as adaptable storage. Which means converting your sdcard to be system memory. Does it work? Couldn't tell you. None of the devices I buy have an sdcard slot. And oem have hidden the feature or removed it all together.
So... either I get a custom rom with 6.0 without any guarantee that it actually works(and lose my data), or just be stuck with this problem on lollipop.
Another question, this problem will persist even for the apps link2sd and foldermount? I ask because they might use different methods, I can't confirm myself as my apps are already linked with apps2sd.

Yes. It is due to the way the os is set for mounting and reading the sd card. The whole OS loads before it reads the sdcard. Once all apps and data are loaded does it scan the sdcard. Not really alot you can do about it. I just wouldn't bother with moving things to the sdcard. Devices now generally come with plenty of storage.

True enough, guess I'll only link those that hog up too much space. Thanks man.
Btw, does titanium backup create backup of linked apps too?

I am not sure. Like I said. I have not had a device with an sdcard slot in like 5 years or so.

Okay, thanks a bunch anyway.
Dalvik VM might be the problem. ART VM isn't causing any trouble. Though it takes a few more seconds to start the linked app, the rest works smoothly.
