so now that some people have this device, how smooth does the text look? no more pentile pixel layout should mean a gorgeous superb looking screen. my mouth is watering at the thought of OLED pixels without the fuzzy text look of the super amoled screens.
how do web pages look? small text, and text in general? is it really noticeable over the first galaxy s and nexus s screen?

wish there was some way to show close up smoothness of the screen to others out on the web thru pics or something, but its hard to do. maybe some close up shots?
you can always put a tiny droplet of water on the screen to magnify the pixels and take a pic.

I have asked this question in a few other threads as well but I have some gradient issues which however doesn't appear to be a generic issue as I've not seen anyone else complain about it.
Text is as sharp as you would expect a screen of this size to be (I'm coming from the 4" LCD of X10i). Its slightly less sharp than the LCD but nothing unexpected.
Contrast is superb as are the viewing angles!
My display however shows colour banding as you can see in the grey background of the NeuralNet WP snapshot I uploaded (Sorry for the quality, its my X10)
Anyone else with this issue?
let me just dig out my SLR and take a picture of my screen, I too have "banding" but it's no worse than any other LCD/LED screen I've used.
It's certainly not something I can say I've noticed without actually looking for.

The banding is much worse than on my old Galaxy Spica (24bit LCD), but the overall screen quality is amazing and I don't notice the banding most of the time.

Could it be that people coming from LCD displays are more sensitive to the banding effect?
When I compare the display with my X10i (LCD), the effect is apparent!

I played with a SGS2 for 20 minutes today. I was extremely bothered by the pentile on the original, so much that it's one of the main reasons I got rid of it.
Happy to report that there is NO pentile whatsoever on the new version and it looks exactly like a 4.3" 800x480 LCD does, but with SAMOLED Plus colors and contrast Pixels are pixels, like they should be.
I haven't had the Galaxy S, but my girlfriend uses the iphone 4, and I would say the Galaxy S 2 whups the iphone 4 on screen quality ( not resolution ) but over all clarity of images, web pages is alot better ( in my opinion. )
This screen is much better bcause of its real stripe matrix. Compared to a friends iPhone 4 a couple of nights back, particularly in terms of text in the browser. Text on the iPhone is definitely better with its pixel density, but the difference really is not that great at all - he was actually really surprised when I told him the actual resolution, because he thought they looked so close in terms of clarity!

The iphone 4 doesnt get colour banding... My SGS II screen looks like its only 16bit colour.....

I'd bet a lot of money that it IS only 16 bit color right now. Samsungs other amoled screens were only 16 bit color when they came out on the nexus one etc.
I had a Galaxy S and compared them side by side.
There's no question about it - the S II looks ten times better than the original. There's no more of the graininess, and despite the slightly lower pixel density it appears sharper as the fuzzy edges caused by PenTile are gone.
Colours are also smoother since the slight graininess is gone.
I'd like to hear from people who currently own the SIII or have compared it directly to a HTC One X and iPhone 4 or 4S.
Specifically what I'd really like to know is how the screens of these devices compare to each other. From personal experience, I find the screen of the iPhone 4 and 4S to be a bluish hue whereas the One X has a wonderfully white display. (When both devices are at full brightness with auto brightness disabed.)
I'd like to know if anyone has experience comparing the SIII screen to the 4/4S and/or the One X. What I can tell from comparision videos so far is that the SIII has a bluish screen (a la the iPhone) compared to the One X.
Also, the issue the One X has with multitasking is well documented by now. Does the SIII share this issue?

The iphone 4 screen is 2 years old. It did not change for the iphone 4s.
Yet, it is still the king of the hill. The benchmark. Nice and bright with typical IPS viewing angles and a standard hdtv-like presentation (~500 nits) This does NOT speak to Apple's greatness. It only speaks to Apple's leverage and high standards for parts. They got exclusivity, and a high quality part, at a mass market price. Not sure if another maker could have gotten such a nice screen at an affordable price, nor am I sure if another maker would care to the degree that Apple does about using premium components. Colors are a bit undersaturated if you ask me. Thankfully other makers are now catching up to the iphone 4's display. But a tip of the hat to the iphone 4, which started it all and is still at the very top of the heap even 2 years later, an eternity in the smartphone world.
HTC One X, is the first screen that surpasses the iphone 4's screen, simply b/c it's bigger but maintains the same quality. I'd say that white is more truly white on the One X, and the screen is slightly brighter (~550 nits). Colors pop more and are more fully saturated. I would choose the One X or the iphone 4s screen soley based on your preferred screen size.
S3 I have not seen, but I have seen the Note's screen and Galaxy Nexus. My main issue is that they are not nearly bright enough. Blue cast, and of course the pentile matrix display. The matrix was easily visible to me, and the ovrriding reason why I downgrade the screens vs the One X and iphone 4. Next comes max brightness (~330 nits). You want a higher brightness when watching videos and using it in the sun. On the plus side, the blacks are the deepest they can be b/c the pixels are completely off. Can't beat that. Colors are very saturated, which is better than undersaturated. Also wonderful viewing angles.
My opinion is in the minority. Most people think that the S3's screen is wonderful and amazing. They are not bothered by the measurably less peak brightness, and the easily visible (to me) pentile matrix. I believe that IPS tech is still the superior one simply b/c it looks more natural, or maybe it's b/c what we're most used to, even outside of smartphone displays.

As someone who has compared the iPhone 4 and One X screens side by side, I agree entirely with your assessment. (I do think the One X has a definitive edge overall compared to the iPhone 4 screen.) However I think you'd need to see the SIII in person before making any assessments regarding it's quality. The impression I'm getting from HD YouTube videos is that the SIII screen possess a bluish hue, a la iPhone 4/4S, however the pentile display does not seem to produce a great deal of pixelation as I originally feared.
I've seen them all, and HTC One X's screen is definitely the best. You'll really notice the difference if you put them side-by-side for sure.

Screen aside, I don't like the One X. Multitasking issues. Camera bump on the back. Prefer the hardware home buttons of the iPhone and SIII.
Htc one x screen is awful. Is clean yes but colors r not natural. White is not clear white whilr black is grey.
I own both and I will say this:
The One X screen is amazing. It is pin sharp. Fonts looks amazing. Colours are very natural and look good. (Sorry Totòòò, I disagree with you, perhaps your screen was faulty)
But, the Galaxy is better in 9/10 ways. It's near impossible to notice the pentile matrix. You have to zoom in on a font to even notice, beyond regular reading levels. The One X screen is just that bit more sharp, where in the above scenario, you still cannot make out any dots. EDIT: Although I have found that different fonts yield different results. For example, the font used in the stock browser looks really good, even when zoomed in a fair bit. The font used in Chrome Beta, does not. I notice the pentile matrix a lot more when using this font.
The galaxy S3 screen has deeper colours (if you've seen AMOLED before you know what I mean), and I find it more pleasurable to look at.
The only detractor with the S3, is that when scrolling text on white backgrounds (e..g web pages), and scrolling it fast, the fonts tend to blur a little bit due to the pentile matrix. When you stop scrolling, the fonts are pin sharp. The One X did not suffer from this.
Overall (and believe me I am picky about my screens) I find the S3 screen to *just* have the edge over the One X screen, due to the fact the colours being that little bit more pleasurable to look at.
Of course, this is all subjective. YMMV. At the end of the day they are both very good screens.
One X shty multi is the same as Sensations, totally a disaster. Plus closed case, cannot change acu, no microsd and huge slowness. Seriously this phone sucks. SGS3 on the other hand, like SGS2 do not have such problems.

Today I was at an at&t store so I compared the screens of mega and my note 2 side by side. I played the same YouTube video on both devices. Boy how come I've never realized how yellow the whites look on my note 2, and yet it's pure white on the mega. I just don't get it. Isn't the note 2 supposed to be a high end flagship?
That fact is related to the phisical type of the screen: while it's an amoled on your Note 2, like my Razr, it's an LCD on the Mega. This means that whites are a lot better on the Mega, but blacks are better on amoled phones, because an amoled screen shows blacks by turning off every single pixel. People love LCDs for their color accuracy (for example, SuperLCDs mounted on HTCs), or prefer amoleds for their rich colors and high contrast ratio. Modern Samsungs have a tool for adjusting color temperature and saturation, and even Nokias have the same tool, to help you find screen colors that fits you and prevent over saturation!

I knew about the green/blueish tint on my original Note but I never realized that it was that bad. Same goes with the black clipping/crushed.
I knew of course about them too as with almost all other "problems" but boy, playing the same clips with the Mega or the Note on top or and the other one below, what a difference.
You guys can download a bunch of High quality clips beloew. But also any quality 1080p trailer will do(e.g Transformers). Also Sintel, Big buck bunny etc.

True. The difference is obvious between them(Note 1 vs Mega) but I'm really satisfied with the Mega's screen.
I'm a huge fan of Amoled's, but I can say that my first ownership experience with a quality LCD is going quite well so far. More than well actually.
AMOLED is great but it needs more development to work out the problems it has (yellowish/bluish whites, black clipping/crush, screen deterioration, real rgb subpixels, etc). These problems are very obvious when you compare screens side by side specially with the Mega's SC LCD (super clear).
If you're colorblind, please disregard this thread. Rate this thread to express how you deem the color saturation and accuracy of the LG G6's display. A higher rating indicates that you think that color accuracy is very high and saturation is excellent.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The LCD is fairly color accurate all considering. This screen is very close to what I achieve using a hardware color calibrate with my work machines. The reds are not too red (faux saturation) and the cooler tones show up as prominently.
It's just a shame I can't hook up a hardware calibrator to it to test it.
Solid color accuracy
I am coming from a OnePlus 3T, so when first firing up the G6 I was a little disappointed. I couldn't believe how much more vivid the AMOLED screen was compared to the LCD. Well, now that I have been using the G6 exclusively for the past two days, I am growing quite fond of this screen. The colors are quite accurate and precise, just not as vivid/saturated as what I was looking at for the past 6 months. Liking this phone more and more each day.
The screen color temperature is definitely on the cool side, certainly higher than 6500K.
It is not pleasant at first for me. I've been using Nexus 6P on sRGB mode for more than a year, and the color saturation on the G6 under default, out of the box settings is disheartening.
To somehow mitigate this, what I did was to enable ComfortView, set at Low Setting. It's far from perfect, but that's better than nothing.

From what I saw side by side compared to the S8+ at full brightness, I could see the whites having a more pinkish hue very slightly than the S8+. The S8+ having brighter highlights. Obviously, the S8+ also has deeper blacks, more saturated, and viewing angles are much better because of its AMOLED display. Other than that, the overall range of colours seemed fairly close between the G6 and S8+.
Not sure who will see this but I think the G6 LCD screen compared to an amoled like the one's on the oneplus 3/3t/5 and the s8/s8+ is just better in certain scenarios. There are some people who might be audiophile esque and want high fidelity and things like that. And there might be some people who like bass boosted beat headphones and other things like that which are not accurate at all but are enjoyable on a certain level. If you like big bass sound and you are that kind of person then you will like the amoled screen but I am personally not. I like knowing that what I see on my screen is what it is supposed to look like.
For instance the other day I was looking at a picture of the fifty shades of gray poster. It is supposed to be black and gray but it had a colored tint to it on the s8 compared to a g6 which looked as it should. All I am saying is that there are going to be times when the s8 because it pops colors so much will make what you see innacurate. And that might bother you or it might not. But it bothers me.
Exactly what Scape said. Tech people who know their stuff want accurate color reproduction and analytic sound. The wide mass wants flashy Colors and boomsound. Easy people rate phones by how saturated the phone looks. The more saturation = the better. This is complete BS for people who have knowledge about Electronics. Its like comparing people who buy a Classic car and put Chrome rims on it not caring for the paint because "CROME RIMZ M8". Where there are also people which buy a classic car, care to make it look as original as possible and know every part of their car.
The 2nd. Car may look boring to people, but its quality and worthwise extremely preferable. For example a natural Color reproduction can help when taking photos with the G6. If you take a photo on the Amoled Screen of a Galaxy, and then open it on your calibrated IPS, you will be flashed about how different it looks then on the phone. Thats not what you want.
Regarding the Bass... Well i like perfect color recreation but i hate neutral speakers or headphones, im quite a basshead but i still want a good clarity, deep stage and low noise.

Yeah, i kept my custom color setting enabled for a few weeks since the blue color looked way better. It is only when switching back to the default setting that i noticed how washed out the reds looked. I reverted back to the defaults.

I bought G6 after iP6S+ and I'm really disappointed from display over all. Blue is on G6 boosted as hell. At home I have calibrated displays and iPhone is much more closer. I can't watch photos (photographer) on G6 because of it. Even automatic brightness control is not ok for me. It's still dimmer than I want. LuxLite solved that but colors are terrible.

This is bad news for me, I find the G6 screen beautiful (I am under 7.0) and I do not like at all the rendering amoled screens, precisely because of the saturated colors..
I found on 7.0 that the flesh tones on netflix and terrarium tv were way washed out.looked like everyone never saw the sun lol Na just saying I think LG just corrected the saturation a little bit to not make things so washed out looking.The reds are a little darker also instead of a orangey yellow tint.And like before the greens were not as dark .kinda reminded me of a mint or pastel green.Now on Oreo it is a true green and red.

I have s8 and G6. I hate Amoled with that compotish colors. White is not white. Ever with pink or blue or yellow. Amoled is like woman with silicon tits. Far from reality. For me LG and Sony make most better displays.

I'm not trying to start a pixel flame war, but I'm standing in front of multiple pixel 3 devices and it's very easy to see they have two different color temperatures. The difference isn't as noticeable in photos though.
Granted, they still look 2 times better than last year, but the regular 3 clearly has a warmer temp and greater color shift when viewed off axis.
How did a room full of tech experts miss this at the Google event?!

It was consistent on the multiple devices they had on display.
I also checked display brightness and color settings as you can see in the pictures. Like I said, the difference is more obvious in person and I'm shocked no tech reviewers have mentioned it. I've even noticed it while watching YouTube videos with reviewers holding the devices side by side.

That's the same video that caught my eye. Matthew Moniz has a video about the notch that shows both phones with two different temperatures as well. He doesn't mention it either. I am hoping Erica Griffin does a test on it, but she topically only buys the larger version...

To me, that notch is still enough to make me avoid the 3 XL even if it has slight better color temperature. There's always gonna be something better, bright, whiter, whatever. I'm looking at the overall package at this point in the game and the regular 3 is the better compromise for me.
I went to the Verizon store today and also noticed a difference in the color temperature of the displays. But I could've sworn the XL had the warmer panel. I'm sure there a ton of variability between screens even among the same model especially so soon after release. Not a big deal but I liked the XL screen a bit better especially when watching media. To my eyes the difference between 1080 and 1440 is noticeable. The regular 3 screen is also much smaller than I thought it would be. I figured it'd be pretty close to my Samsung Galaxy S8 but it's a good deal smaller. So I cancelled my Pixel 3 pre-order and went for the XL.

Yes, the display on both models is considerably better than the pixel 2 series. I wonder if anyone could compare them to the OG pixels? I loved their screens.

Hi, I really hesitate between the two versions now.
I took a fairly janky photo the other day at the Verizon store and the screens looked identical. Both phones in max brightness, adaptive color setting. They looked identical (that's why I took the photo). Unfortunately I couldn't move then from their secure displays, and actually was quite a bit off center for the pixel 3 because another customer wanted to spend 30 minutes with then like I was . The demo models had a purple-and-yellow gradient background image on them, which also looked identical on each phone. I couldn't actually handheld the devices at the time, though, so it's hard to get a good comparison, but the screens looked really great regardless. I'm not worried in the slightest at this point. We'll see if the internet starts up a new conspiracy about screen issues, though.

My concern is that the whites are just not as white on the regular pixel 3 and it will effect how we perceive the image quality of the photos we take. I make quick edits on my phone using Snapseed all the time, and I don't want it to look different than what I expect.

I just received my Pixel 3 and compared it to my 2XL, and I'm so glad I did because I was ready to jump the gun and assume it was a horrible display as soon as I found out it was made by LG. I don't know how it personally compares to the Pixel XL 3, but the Pixel 3's screen is just flat out better when compared to my Pixel 2XL. The viewing angles are vastly better. There isn't a huge color shift when tilted. The colors seem significantly more vibrant. There seems to be less black crush (not perfect).
I was really considering returning my Pixel 3 until I compared the display to my Pixel 2XL. Man, I am glad I did, because I often found that my 2 XL with a case+whitedome screen protector were way too heavy and nearly impossible to use one handed. To be fair, I also prefer smaller phones. I would've bought the Pixel 2 instead of the 2XL if they had just maintained the same design. And I definitely loved my og Pixel over the og Pixel XL.
A small update -
I visited a Verizon store yesterday, and it does seem that the screens are different in temperature. The 3 had a bit cooler temp than the 3XL, but they both looked amazing. I set them both on the 3 color modes and they were a tiny bit different than one another, but again they are both really nice and look calibrated well.
I'm still on LG G4, which has an amazing screen (LCD though), and the two pixels are amazing, compared.
